Investment Account Cash Portion
I just opened a new brokerage account with Citibank and need to set it up in
Money 2006. When I create a new investment account it automatically creates
the associated cash account. The problem is that the cash account is
actually an account I've had open at Citibank for years and has already be
setup in Money a long time ago.
How can I link an existing MS Money account as the cash account for the new
investment account?

Why Import Data From Bank for Reconciling? Need Help!!!
Hi All,
This may sound like a silly question, but why do people import data
from their bank into MS Money? For reconciling?
I would like to start using the program for this, but from what I
understand, which may not be correct, is that one of the purposes of
reconciling is to compare your records to the records of the bank. If
I download the bank's records into Money before reconciling, wouldn't I
be comparing the bank's records to the bank's records? I wouldn't catch
any bank mistakes.
I do recognize that there are 2 reasons for reconciling:
1. to compare your notes to the bank's notes, and
2. to make sure that your checkbook matches the bank's balance.
It seems like using the bank's data for import into Money would satisfy
goal number 2. I can see this being imensely helpful. But when it
comes to my money, I don't place 100% trust with the bank. A teller
may deposit money into the wrong account accidentally (or at least
hopefully accidentally!), an incorrect bank charge may show up. Your
employer may mess up and not direct deposit the money into your
account, etc.
I used to use a program similar to MS Money, but found that typing in
the information from checkbook to computer program took a long time.
Small price to pay for accuracy I guess!
What are your thoughts on this? Please respond. I want to start using
the product.

Category problems
I currently have Money 2006 Small Business. I started using Money years ago
with earlier versions.
The category list I use has evolved from the previous versions, and there
appear to be many of the "standard" categories I don't use, and want to
delete them (There are no transactions tied to them.)
I've tried deleting these many, many times, but they reappear within a few
minutes. I tried the "move" function, moving to a similar category that is
being used (e.g moved "Medical-Dental" to "Medical/Dental") but the category
reappears after a few minutes.
I tried the "Remove unused categories" under tools>settings>category
settings. You guessed it... they reappear after a few minutes!
Anyone know what is going on and/or how to fix the problem? BTW, I've done

" Investments To Watch " in M2004 Deluxe
I know it's late, but I just tried to use the "Watch List " feature in M2004 for the first time , and the instructions tell me to:
Choose Investing - portfolio - 'add an investment' , then to choose " Investments To Watch" from the drop-down.
I do not have " Investments To Watch" available to me. I checked all the options I can think of. Is there a box somewhere to
enable this ? AND when this does work, what will the screen look like - will these be listed with other items in my brokerage
account ? or will this put the watched stocks in their own account ?
I tried help - online support etc and they all tell me " choose from the dropdown" and that's all the info I can get.

$ 2006 Premium, Update Online Information Password request
I updated from Money 2003 to Money 2006 premium this weekend,
Everything converted and worked fine the first I sent my epays and
updated my online information.
The second time I try to use and each time siubsequent when I try to
send an epay or update online information I get asked for my password
and when I enter it I get message that my bank requires that I change
my password before I update online information and then gives me
instruction son how to do this in Money 2006. I called my bank
(Comerica) and they said no they do not.
Trying to follow the instructions to change my password for the
account does not work either.

confusion about multiple accounts at same bank
I have two Money files - 0ne for my personal accounts and one for my
business. I use one bank for all of my accounts. Here's my problem: When I
set up online banking for my personal accounts, it went out to the bank and
rounded up all of the accounts I have there, including the business checking.
It didn't seem to give me any choice about whether to "enable" each of the
accounts for that particular Money file. It was all or nothing.
Same thing happened when i set up the online banking for the buisiness files
- I got all of the accounts, even when I didn't want all of them. I tried
closing or deleting the extras, but the next time I did an update, it grabbed
them all again (which means the updates are not available if I go back to the
personal accounts file and try to updat them.
AAARRRG! Does anyone know how I can choose which account(s) to update for
each file?
I'm using Money2005. Is this problem perhaps corrected in 2006? (If so, it

2006 -Unable to see ACTUAL in MONTHLY REPORTS
Hi,
MS Money 2006 hates me, I think.
When I'm in MONTHLY REPORTS, I do not see the ACTUAL column. If I
slide the bottom slider to the right I see nothing; all the way to the
left...BUDGET AND DIFFERENCE. Searched for ACTUAL using the black
slider at the top, but all that does is adjust the column width.

Unable to open a Money 2001 file
Hello
I have a Money 2001 files that I cannot open anymore after reinstalling. The
error message is : « your file contains coded informations, it cannot be
opened with this version of money » (This a translation from french). I am
SURE this file was created with the same version of money that I
reinstalled.
If I look on the Microsoft website for this error message, the knowledge
database says that I have to find the EXACT same regional settings that I
had defined when this money file was created.. And I have no way of
remembering this - I just know for sure they were tweaked..
I call Msoft a few times now and they say it was possible to find those
regional setting in the money file probably, but wouldn't tell me how as my
money version is too old (2001) and not supported. They therefore didn't
give me the info.
Anyone here could tell me how I can find the regional settings within the
money file ?
Another solution : I actually have a drive image of the previous install. I
cannot make it boot - But I still have the window intact. So if anyone knows
where in windows are the regional settings stored (a reg file or something),
that would be appreciated

Money Premium 2006: Moving my data to my laptop
For reasons too numerous to go into here, I believe it likely that I'm going

How do I set up a budget in Mocrosoft Money if I have no income? I
just have a big savings account where I keep what's left over of my
money after I pay tuition. I would like to budget transfers from
savings as income (I did this in Quicken) but I can't figure out how.

Money '05 - Search feature
The search feature in my Money 2005 doesn't work. If I am in the checkbook
register, and click "Search," enter a check number or amount, and click
search, it stops only a few transactions up. It apparently thinks something
is matching, but it's certainly not the number I entered. I haven't been
able to figure out what it is doing.
Any suggestions? Would an upgrade to '06 possibly help?

I am Italian and I am a Microsoft Money 2004 French edition user.
The reason why I am using the French edition is that as far as I know
there isn't an updated Italian version of Money.
Is this the best choice ?
Since my English is much better than my French should I rather use the
USA or UK or international version ? Do they support the EUR ?
if I decide to change how can I migrate the data from the French
version to another version ?

"Your sign in information could not be verified"
After months of being able to get into my Money file just fine, suddenly I am
told that my sign in information could not be verified, and I need to check
the Work offline box to continue. I'm obviously signed in to passport
(otherwise I would not be posting *here*) I have uninstalled and reinstalled
Money 2006. I have tried opening a new Money file instead of my existing
file. I have remove all cookies and temporary files, verified that I was
connected to the internet, registered the Msxml3.dll file, and every single
other thing that was in KB-891338 and KB-182608. I am now out of ideas. I
do not WISH to work offline, all my accounts are online. I can access my
passport account (a hotmail account) for every single other thing that
requires it. What is the problem, or do I just give up on Money and try to

sync problems
I am having two problems synch
1. With MSN Money, will not sync data saying information is needed, but I
can log on to site with no poblem and when I go to send a bill have no
problem.
2. Sync with MSN Web keeps saying updates are temporarily unavaialbe (been

Spending by Category - how to ignore an account
Hello all,
I am using Money 2006. On the Home Page there is a chart that displays
Spending by Category. This is great and I like it, however I would like it
to ignore one of my accounts for it's display purposes. I have two checking
accounts setup in Money. One is the checking account discovered online via
money to which I have transactions auto download. The other is the checking
account I use to enter my transactions manually. I would like the Spending
by Category chart to calculate/display only transactions in my manually
created checking account.
Any idea how, or if, this can be done ?

Investment Performance Reports inacurate with stock split data
I have many investments with stock splits. For example I bought 145 shares
of Staples on 3/15/04 for 26.0321. I sold 70 Shares on 4/4/05. The stock
split on 4/18/05 with 3 for 2 shares. The stock split feature worked to
correctly give the 37.5 shares but it alters the share quanitites as well
as the previous stock prices. What was 145 shares became 217.5 and the 70
shares became 105. When I try to run a performance report that gives the
value of the stock on 12/31/04 compared to 12/31/05 the value is too low on
12/31/04. The cost basis of the stock is also incorrect. What can I do to

Allocate funds for annual expenses
If I create an expense in my budget that is "yearly" for say, $1200.
Money automatically translates that into $100 per month on my monthly
budget. At first, I thought, that's cool, now I can make sure to
earmark $100 every month so I actually have the $1200 sitting there
when its due. But, as far as I can tell, Money doesn't have a way to
earmark that $100 that month. In fact, if I don't spend that $100 on
that budget category, Money tells me that I have underspent that
category for the month. Then, when I pay the $1200 bill, it tells me
that that I have overspent by $1100! So, if I have an annual (or other
non-monthly) expense, how do I allocate the monthly budgeted amount so
that money understands that I'm setting that money aside, and doesn't
complain when I pay the the full bill? Do I have re-allocate budget

Money 04, w/Groups, categories and sub-categories!
I posted this query before, but for some reason, (5) posts came up! I
must have goofed somehere, and I now worry that readers may have felt
that I did it for attention. Not so! HONESTLY!
Anyway, is there a way I can remove the Groups and let ME decide where
each category and sub-category can be placed? If I had that
flexibility I should be quite appreciative!

Portfolio Manager crash Money 2006
I have saved several customized views in Portfolio Manager. If I delete a view
named, say ACCOUNT TOTALS, create a new view, then try to save it as ACCOUNT
TOTALS, Money 2006 crashes and closes. After it reopens, if I go to Portfolio
Manager, Money again crashes. i.e. I can no longer access Portfolio Manager.
Repairing the file doesn't fix the problem. The message is that there were "no
broken records" in the file. I have to restore a backup.

A little while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and came across an article similar to this that said
you could make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $12.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be
a scam", but like most of us I was curious, so I kept reading.

7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my
first week, I made about $70.00. By the end of the second week I made a total of over $1000.00! In the third week, I had over
$10.000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week, I have made a total of just over $42.000.00, and it's still coming in

New user question on Pie Charts
Hi,
Just got started on Mloney 2006. I pay almost everything by credit catrd
and then pay it off at the end of the month to get the 2 percent rebate.
However in the pie charts showing all my expenses the expenses take up 50% of
the pie chart but are distorted by the fact that my bank transfer to pay the
card is treated as an expense so the credit card is 50% also when actually
the credit card expenses already show up all correctly categorized. How do I
astop this? I used category "bank transfer/cc" to pay the credit card (which
ultimately paid all other expenses.

Hello,
Does anyone know the Bloomberg Ticker to access historical data for SPI
futures that were traded on the Sydney Futures Exchange prior to 2000?
I am aware that the current code is XPA, however, there is no data
prior to 2000.

Scheduled bills is the problem with the Adj. Balance discrepancy.
I had the balance problem with Money 2002 and it is worse with 2005. It
appears that bills that I have scheduled are the problem. When I change the
amount for a particular bill or payment it is reflected correctly in the
account register but checking in Reports- "Account Transactions" it is
"entered" once for the amount that was scheduled and once for the updated
amount. Any way to fix this?

Bank of America Bill Pay
I recently setup MS Money 2006 with my accounts at Bank of America (All
except CA, WA, & ID). I am able to use direct download from within Money and
it downloaded all my Payees from BofA.
However, I have a stupid problem now...
In Money, I have all my Bills set up with their due dates, etc. When I need
to make a payment, I login to BofA on the BofA website, and schedule a bill
payment via Bill Pay. Then in Money, I go to the Bills Summary page and
enter the payment.
When I update my BofA account after that, it automatically downloads the
Bill Pay payment that I scheduled on the BofA website (with the envelope and
lightning bolt icon next to it). And if I mouse over the icon, it gives me
information about the payment.
But it never syncs this payment with the one I entered in Money and so now I
have two payments showing up in Money.
Does anyone know the right way to set up payments with BofA and Money?

Downloaded transactions don't show up in register
I have encountered a problem in Money 2004 where after certain dates in
February (different for each account) downloaded transactions in those
account that are setup for online services won't show up in the register.
However, the online services manager tells me I have transactions to review.
When I go to the individual account, the sidebar says I have 17 new
transactions to review, and gives the CORRECT current balance for the
account, but the register doesn't show anything past a certain date. Some
accounts are stuck on Feb 7, and one is stuck on Feb 21. I can enter new
transactions manually and it is clearly connecting to the accounts. What is

Money secure over wireless ?
Family just bought a condo in Florida. It has free wireless internet BUT it's 802.11b not 802.11g, so it's not secure. ( and they
can't change it for now ) Here's their question ...
When in Money you select UPDATE PRICES ONLINE, (not Connect to Broker) is any confidential info being transmitted ? I always
thought that the quotes server did just updates, but I'm not sure.
Here's why :
If it's "just updating the price" , then why doesn't the math for "Today's total change" and Gain etc change on my screen as the
price changes ? I've seen the price change data flash on the screen, and if the " Change " column was selected , it's rearranged
my funds - but not yet reflected the amount of change onscreen. Apparently their server isn't finished processing price info for
the day. It seems to " know something" but not done yet.
Since Money doesn't "do the math locally" and apparently needs the server to modify the " Todays change" column, I'm assuming
that at some point your info is being transmitted. Maybe not account password but at least : the # of shares , share price and
by deduction the amount invested.
(Like price = 10, change = 1.50 , symbol=xyz, numbers of shares 5000 , total change 7500)
So someone capturing network packets would know that you have $50,000 of xyz .
What about confidential info - anything being broadcast while updating ?

Recurring Investment Purchase Setup
I automatically purchase $1000 of XYZ stock monthly at the available
price on the day of purchase. In setting up a recurring investment purchase
in Money2006 it is required to enter the quantity purchased AND the amount
paid. If I knew the future price of the stock I could enter the quantity if
I wasn't in jail for having insider information.
My question to fellow users, what workarounds are people using to
overcome this poor Money2006 design problem? Pre Money2006, the quantity
field was not a required field for the creation of a new recurring
investment purchase.

Money 2005 Account List problem
The balances in the Account List (summary page) for the accounts that I
reconcile (e.g Checking, AMX) are incorrect. The following are
characteristics of my problem:
- - These incorrect balances in the Account List equal the totals in the
respective Account detail only when the "Unreconciled Transactions" view is
used
-When the "All Transactions" view is used in the Account detail
- the balance is correct to the penney - so the transcations themselves are
correct.
-The balance in the Acccount List is incorrect for my checking and credit
card accounts at all times - whether the Detail view is "unrecomciled
transactions or "all transactions"
I have tried both types of file repairs to no availa. Does this scenario

Convert Quicken 2006 to MS Money 2006 Trial version
I am currently using Quicken Premier 2006. I downloaded the trial version of
MS Money 2006. However, it states that you can only convert data from Q2005
and earlier. When I tried to convert Q2006 into Money, it wouldn't do it,
saying it was unable to convert from this version.
Any resolutions to this? I would really like to try the trial version of

Money 06 backups
I have Money 06 set to save the last 5 backup files but it keeps many more.
So many, that I got a message telling me the USB drive I use for backups was
full.
It seems that the "Keep only the X most recent backup files" switch doesn't
work.
Is this the case?

My Money 06 still says trial edition. I purchased the full version online. I
am signing in with the same passport name and password that I purchased
Money with. I did the update and re-booted and still it hasn't upgraded to

Money 2006 Premium Online Statement error.
I have been running Money 2006 Premium for about 2 months with no issues when
I suddenly started getting the following error at the end of the online
updates with my banks.

I have been searching on the general Microsoft website and found various KB
articles about repairing the Money file etc. I did the file repair step and
have not experienced the Online Update error since.
The issue now is that I have 4 different bank accounts with transactions to
review, but when I look at the detail of the accounts, there are no
unaccepted transactions to be seen. I tried right clicking on the "Transction
to read: 22" link in the Account List view and it did not delete them. When I
update from my banks, no new transactions are added to my accounts.
The issue that I need help with is.....how do I view or delete the Unread
transactions so that I can once again use the Online Update function?

Adding a second mortgage
Hello All,
I would like to know how to setup a second mortgage. I can use the wizard
and it works fine, but, i have a few other charges etc that I'm not sure
what to do with.
Here is what it looks like, (not real numbers)
Loan Principal = 5000.00
Prepaind Finance Charge = 50.00
Amount Financed = 4950.00
Amount Given to me directly = 2500.00
To Public officials for Security Intrest = 10.00
To Appraiser = 100.00
For tile exam 20.00
To Pre-arranged account = 2370.00
So what I would like to see in Money is:
1) The mortgage amount that I can use the wizard to setup (payments,
keep track of intrest etc)
2) The cash realized from the mortgage deposited in my checking
account.
3) The amount that was deposited directly from the Lender to the
pre-arranged account.
Q1) How do I set this up? Do I use the Mortgage wizard setting the opening
balance equal to the principal amount, then enter the fees against the
pricipal?
Q2) The second mortgage provided me with cash, How do I transfer (or record)
the loan principal to my checking account?
Any suggestions will be welcomed.

M2004 - Selling specific lots with Fidelity
Has anyone sold specifc lots with Fidelity ?
By default isn't gain/loss in Money based on FIFO or averaging ?
How do you reconcile the shares in Money if specifc lots chosen ?
Yesterday I sold 3 mutual funds. I chose which lots to sell online.
I then manually entered the info into Money to choose the specific lots.
Today I downloaded my info and did not know what to expect as far as reconciling : how would the lots appear on the transaction
? - would it ask me or not ?
I connected to online services and Money show three pending transactions. But no detail yet.
I accepted the first one - Money bugchecked - warned me - then exited.
Money restarted - showed 2 pending. I accepted the next : Money bugchecked - warned me - then exited.
Same for the third.
This is the first time I've sold any of these funds, so how to choose which lots if not manual ?
I could delete the 3 sales and import but wondering if others have already " been here - done that"

Check Printing
I'm using Money 2005 and have bought blank check stock---can I print a batch
of checks with our name, address, bank info, etc to use to fill out by hand???
I've run through the users guide, but it sounds like to me that we can print
checks from the computer that we want to send out--but, that's not what we
want to do, we want to write them out ourselves, but print the checks
ourselves instead of ordering from the bank.
