I'm trying to use Money Plus Deluxe on a Dell Inspiron 350 running 32-bit
Vista Home Premium. I keep getting the error message "Your current security
settings do not allow that file to download." when I try to open my accounts
list, bills, anything except for online pages. I can see the online
Investment Center and I can see a list of my investment under My Portfolio,
but I get the error message when I try to update any investment. I also get
Alerts that I have bills due/overdue, but can't open anything to PAY them.
It looks like the data is there, Money just won't let me use it. (I have
ownership of the data file as the account I'm trying to work from and am
trying to work from the Admin account at this point.)

I loaded Money from the Admin login, with all Norton security turned off.
(3 times now) Before the third try, I not only uninstalled and rebooted, but
then went into regedit and removed all the Money references I could find,
shut down, and then restarted and re-installed.

I'm thinking I missed a small security adjustment somewhere, maybe in Vista?

TIA,
Nancy

In the past, people have reported turning off Norton was
insufficient. It took uninstall Norton, install Money, and
re-install Norton.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942485

Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that
you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's
Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create
an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the
user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose
RunAsAdministrator that time.

Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE
Tools->InternetOptions->Advanced.

Install Money from the Money Plus by browsing to the setup file.
Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator.

After install, right-click the Money icon and choose
RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the
computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally.

Cal,

Thanks for your very clear instructions. I followed them, but the only
improvement is that I can now see more menu items that I can't access and the
calculator works.
Looking at the online help, it looks like the splash screen may have a place
to login - my splash screen doesn't. Is there supposed to be a login there,
before you even get to the Web?

Are you still getting that "Your current security settings do not
allow that file to download."?

You could consider setting IE7 back to its security defaults.

In IE7, start with
Tools->Options->Security->LocalIntranet->DefaultLevel which may be
sufficient.

If not, click ResetAllZonesToDefaultLevels.

Then on Tools->Options->Advanced->RestoreDefaults.

Then maybe Tools->Options->Privacy->RestoreDefaults.

If those don't do it, or if you want something quicker, it looks as
if you could just go to Tools->Options->Advanced->Reset... to
reset all IE7 settings and to disable add-ons.

A login in Help? There is not.

Assuming you are not running the trial, go to Help->About... and
write down the serial number. You would want that if you contact
Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/money and click Contacts.

Thank you Cal! The people I owe money to, probably thank you too. It was
the Intranet settings in IE. It was preventing the logon screen from
appearing, which pretty much stopped everything. I would never have thought
of that because I don't have an intranet, but apparently to Vista 1 PC with
an Internet connection is also an intranet.
