    - cannont connect to online services for financial institution setup i am trying to set up online services for a new institution. i've had schwab set up for years, and i am still able to update that account. however, when i try to set up a NEW ameritrade account, when trying to do the initial setup i receive an error message saying "money cannot complete a required online call at this time. please check your internet connection settings and try again." however, i can click internet updates or connect to schwab just fine. i even tried setting up a new schwab account, since i know that works on my existing account, and i get the same message. anyone know what's going on? thanks!     - some MS Money problems that have kept me from upgrading I currently have MS Money 2000. I've purchased Money 2004, but switched back to 2000 because I didn't feel that much was improved. As I'm investigating Money 2007, there are still features missing that I believe it should have. 1) the ability to set up bimonthly payments for mortgages, auto loans, credit cards, etc. Paying bi-monthly can drastically reduce the interest paid over the life of a loan. 2) an easy-to-use balance transfer/consolidation simulator. it would be great to simulate projected savings and effective interest rates when considering balance transfer senarios. For example, it would be nice to simulate something like, Credit Card A has a balance of $5000 at 8%. Credit Card B has a balance of $5000 at 0% for 6 months, but a normal rate of 18%. It would be nice to simulate if it would be better to pay as much as possible on Credit Card A, because it (temporarily) has a higher rate, or to pay as much as possible on Credit Card B because all of the money would go to principle and allow one to reduce the balance as fast as possible. As Money is now, it automatically picks the highest interest rate, even if a low rate is only temporary. I'd like to see numbers for both. 3) similarly, regarding no-interest/no-payments offers to set up one "pay in full" payment at the end of the special financing term, without being prompted to make monthly payments during the no payment periods. I bought a fridge at Sears under one of these promotions. Because there is zero interest, it makes more sense to keep the money in an interest-bearing account and just pay it off at the end of the promotional period. The ability to set this up in Money would be useful. 4) the ability to assign multiple interest rates on one account. As with balance transfers above, different portions of credit card balances are subject to different APRs. Accurate financial planning requires that Money account for this. 5) the ability to store scanned receipts or online confirmation pages in an account ledger. So if I buy a book on Amazon with my checking account. I would be able to click a link in the checking account ledger to view a copy of the confirmation page from Amazon. Similarly, if I buy a bag of dog food at the grocery store, I would like to scan the receipt and be able to view it. This wouldn't be a bad idea for checks either - you could scan it just before sending it out. This would eliminate the need to keep paper copies of everything, and make it much easier to verify the accuarcy of ledger entries. Downloading things from the bank is useless if it's the bank's amount that you believe is incorrect from what was originally on the receipt.     - Installing Money 2007 I have Money 2003 on my computer and I just purchased Money 2007 Deluxe. Do I need to have the latest version and where can I find them so that i can use Money 2007.     - uninstall Money 2003 I have an old copy of MS Money 2003 on my computer that is not being used now and I 'd like to remove it. I've tried to use Add/Remove Programs but it wants me to insert the original CD which I no longer have. Is there a way to remove MS Money in a clean manner?     - asset allocation When using the asset allocation functions/reports, ms money indicates under Money Market/Cash category, a value ($25K) that isn't there. I can track it to my brokerage account stock purchases. If I edit these transactions (remove transactions) it incorrectly increases the account balance by the same value $25K.     - Store more character in "Pay to" field in the transaction entry window How do you increase the "Pay to" field ? It is too small to enter the shop and the city name. I can only enter 32 characters. I don't understand why the "Pay to" field in the transaction input window is so large !! all this space is lost since only 32 characters can be entered.     - Yet Another "update in progress" download problem. This started for me around the middle of January. Online updates have been working fine for me for years. I am presently using Money Deluxe 2006. I have tried a bunch of things in the other posts, such as putting in some trusted URL's, disabling firewalls etc. but none seem to get me working. I tried turning off online services for an account but then can't log back in. The one thing I have noticed is that if I create a new account, I can get online for the initial query, thereafter I get the "update in progress". Ditto when I upgraded to Money Deluxe 2007.     - Red Flag of Death I have it. Schwab says that to get the accounts working again I have to delete the old accounts and reestablish a new account.     - Negative Cash Transaction Account Balance in 401k account Hi, I have a 401k investment account from a former employer,setup in Money 2006 DLX as a retirement account, tracking cash transactions. Though I no longer make contributions to it, I've left the Employee matching box checked. I used the Add Shares tranactions to initailly create the account to add the current investment balances for each individual fund position. I periodically download the dividend or other transactions from my Fidelity site to update the account. I haven't reconciled in a while but the account was in balance last time I checked. I don't remember what I did to get it all balanced, The transaction activity types in the investment accounts are a mix of Buy, Sell, Reinvest Interest & Reivest Dividends. The cash account shows Dividends and Exchange In/Out transactions. The Cash account Balance was zero at this point. With my last download the transactions came in as buy transactions increasing the investment account to the correct balances (share units ageed to my statements) with a corresponding negative buy(?) transaction in the cash account, leaving me with negative balance for the sum of the last downloaded transactions. I changed the trans. type of the newly downloaded items in the investment account to Reinvest Dividends which automatically deleted the original corresponding negative buy transactions in the cash account leaving the cash account with a zero balance again as it should be, and all is well. Is this the best way to track this account? I want to include it in Planning and Tax functions. Is there a better set up so I don't have to manually change the buys to reinvest?     - MS Money 2006 frustrations (reports and dloading bank information) So I've just recently installed the full retail version of MSMoney 2006 premium that's been sitting on my shelf for a year and I have a few problems that appear so basic in nature that I wonder if everyone else is having the same problems (and if so, why in the world would anyone actually use this product). OK, issue #1: MS Money provides this real nifty 'Spending by Category' report on the home page. Any CREDITS to any of the categories don't show. Example #1: I purchased a product, charged it to my credit card, then returned it a few days later. The report shows my SPENDING the money, but doesn't account for the credit for the return EVEN THOUGH the credit shows in the credit card ledger and both the purchase and the return are posted to the same spending category. Example #2: I was recently overcharged for a hotel stay out of town. The front desk at the hotel corrected the problem right there at the front desk. Since they had already overcharged my credit card before the billing error was detected, they simply issued a credit for the difference. Simple. The report in MS Money ONLY shows the (over)charge and NOT the corresponding credit even though both entries appear on the same credit card ledger, same date, same category (one a charge, one a credit). Example #3: I use the "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" category for all on-line credit card payments. Each time I make a payment, a charge(debit) for that payment appears in my checking account ledger and a credit appears in the credit card ledger (just as it should). Both these entries are posted to the same "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" category. The report ONLY shows the charge hitting my checking account and NOT the credits appearing in the credit card ledger. This seems to me like a real basic problem that would negatively affect every single MS Money user out there. Am I totally missing the boat here? For the life of me, I can't imagine a product being THAT bad. Problem #2: Anyone else out there use Washington Mutual for their checking accounts? Can you download trasactions reliably into MSMoney? Lord knows I can't. I'm trying to download transactions into MSMoney directly FROM MSMoney's synchronize 'feature'. It works for all my credit cards (100%), and works very rarely for my WAMU accounts. Sometimes I have to go into account settings and re-enter my passwords and it will work (once or twice). Usually it just doesn't work. If it NEVER worked, I'd say I'm doing something wrong. But it works about 20% of the time, so I'm reasonably assured that it's configured correctly. When it won't synchronize, I go to the www.wamu.com website and log-in just to make sure that the WAMU site is indeed working. Same conclusions as above here, Am I missing something here.     - Controlling a category in a report I have been using M2006 for a year and an bit and have the following question. I want to be able to control the inclusion or exclusion of a category in a report from the category itself. I realize I can customize a report, but if I have a category that I do not want in any reports it would be easier to just exclude it. Meaning it would be excluded from all reports unless I specifically customized a report to include it. Ying and yang so to speak. Basically, I want to control the reporting characteristics of the category from within the category and not from within the report. Sounds like a simple thing to do.     - Can anyone tell me if i can change this start and end date? get paid by my employer on the 20th of each month. Therefore, I would like my monthly budget to start on the 20th of each month and end on the 20th of the next month. I have a budget setup in Money 2006, but it automatically sets the month to start on the first day of the month and end on the last. Can anyone tell me if i can change this start and end date?     - Submit Electronic Payment Strangeness I saved an electronic bill payment as a draft scheduled payment. Later I went to Bills Summary, "Electronic transactions ready to send", checked this payment and clicked Submit. Submit succeeded, but... 1. The scheduled payment is still showing in the "ready to send" list. 2. The payment is not in the "Electronic payments...sent in the last 60 days" list. 3. Clicking the refresh button doesn't help. 4. If I click the "find it" link in "If you don't see a transaction that you think you've made..." the payment submission DOES show up there. Is this behavior by design?? Seems strange to me.     - Partial Voiding of Invoice How can I partially void an invoice, or add a negative sum to an invoice. Here's the situation. You create an invoice and send to the client. The client sends a lesser amount, for whatever reason: they dispute the charge, they pay a little and then go out of business, they had already paid a sum earlier, a sort of down payment on the work, and so on. So, how do I deal with that now! I have a partially paid invoice...what do I do with it? I can't enter a negative amount in there, as far as I can see, and I can't see any other way to deal with it.     - Ability to categorize transfer in budget Currently in the budget you are not able to categorize planned transfers in and out of budget account. It lumps all of them into one category. These should be categorized just like any other expense/income. Specifically related to extra principle payments on a morgage.     - IRA's and 401(k)'s There is not way to change accounts from 401(k) to Roth 401(k) [which is not even an option and has been out for a couple years] or to change an IRA to a Roth IRA without creating a new account.     - M07: How to delete old listings in Manage Online Services? Hi, I recently cancelled my MSN Bill Pay service so I could use my bank's free bill pay. When I go to Manage Online Services in M07, MSN Bill Pay is still listed under Online Service Providers/Bill Payment Providers, and under the To Do column, it says "Set up online services". I also have another obsolete lisitng on the same page under Bank or Brokerage, a bank I no longer use, with the same admonition to "Set up online services".     - Can't update credit card after SP2 I have Money 2007 Premier and XP SP2. Before updating Money, I could pull info from two Capital One accounts. Now, both fail, usually with no info other than suggestions to try again or contact customer service. However, on the last try, one account was reported as having trouble at the 'bank'. I found a somewhat relevant article in on-line help but can't get back to it. It did mention repairing the file; I tried this and it reported no errors in the file. Thanks for any suggestions.     - Cannot log into Money 2005? I've been using Money 2005 Deluxe for a few years now and haven't experienced any major problems until now. As everyone knows, you cannot do any online banking, regardless of whether you use Microsoft's bill payment service, your banks, or whatever, without having a Passport account and signing in. Well, I can no longer sign in. I can only log into my file by signing in offline. This just started this morning. Upon attempting to sign in I almost immediately get an error that says "Your sign-in information could not be verified. Go online or select the Work offline check box, and then reenter your sign-in information." This allows me to access my accounts and enter checks and look at balances but I can't update my information or pay bills online which is how I pay 80% of my bills. This is a major issue for me currently and I have no idea what has caused it or how to fix it. My Internet access is up. I can check email and surf the web with no problems whatsoever. Money is the only application having any problems. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this or have any idea how to fix it? Thanks in advance.     - Money 2007 Won't Install on Windows 2000?? What's the story, Microsoft? Hard to believe that Money 2007 won't install on Windows 2000! 2000 is still supported by Microsoft, yet their new Money version rejects it. I'm not buying XP, just to run Money. 2000 works fine for me on several machines for all of my computing needs. I'm going to run Money 2006, and start testing a move to Quicken. Open source or Linux money software still has a way to go, so that's out. If not, I'd probably be gone from Money, and Windows as well! I can't imagine what feature that XP has relative to 2000 that is so critical as to make Microsoft abandon a significant part of the Money user base. I will not move any existing funds into the Roth, but I want to determine if I should put payments into the Roth or traditional option.     - Amortizing Mortgage Incorrectly Hello, Money 2005. I have a mortgage entered in Money which is about two years old. Somewhere along the way (mid 2006), it began to amortize incorrectly. When I check my monthly statement from the mortgage company, the principal and interest allocations were different. I went back with my statements and started to manually reallocate the payments. The first was off by some amount I cant remember (not more than $.50 or so). When I adjusted the first one, I received the following message: In the [Mortgage Company Name] loan account, there are loan payments following the one you are changing. Do you want Money to recalculate the principal and interest distribution for these payments? I told it Yes thinking that it would begin amortizing correctly. It did not work. The next month I opened was off by $.01. To correct, I had to add $.01 to the principal and subtract the same from the interest. Again, I received the message, and again said yes. I then opened the following payments, all of which were off by the $.01. I manually adjusted each time, and chose yes when I received the message. Obviously there is something wrong with the way its amortizing. I know it probably seems trivial to worry about the one cent, but I would just like it to be accurate. I have managed to set up my main credit card, checking and CD accounts for which I do an automatic download. But I'm not sure how to set up a 401k account and do that automatic download. I tried it via Banking but it seems that Charles Schwab retirment services don't offer automatic download. There manual download doesn't work either. That's not an infeasible option; all it means is having your target(s) watched to make sure they're not in the vicinity, then you negotiate any locks on the property and find a suitable receptacle for your device. The next question is how they defeat the usual methods of counter- surveillance. We had private detectives carry out a "sweep" of every room and the telephone line. They found nothing. That indicates at least four possibilities that I can think of; (this is all guesswork BTW, and probably fanciful guesswork at that!) 1) no bugs (pull the other one) 2) radio-transmitting devices which can be controlled from an external source, ie you can instruct them to switch off when you detect a counter-surveillance sweep taking place 3) hard-wired devices; probe microphones or whatever they're called, things you poke through the wall 4) passive surveillance devices; so you bounce laser or radio waves off a suitable reflecting surface (again, sounds far-fetched but such things may apparently exist). 5) there is a fifth possibility, that the PI's didn't detect an actual transmitting device; there are technologies specifically designed to avoid detection, eg frequency hopping and suchlike. But how much sophistication could you build in to a device which would have to be small enough to be physically concealable? I guess the real question is to find out who is ultimately behind these "goings on". If it existed then I wouldn't be talking to you - if it could be proved, or if those doing it could be found, they wouldn't be able to continue. What's happened is all conversation. You can't prove conversation, not without a tape recorder, and even then you would have to prove that what they meant corresponded to what you understood. The psychopath who manages the Applics group at my previous employers played little word games, not only with me but with at least one other person in the group; words which rhyme with swear words, words which are ambiguous, eg "bent", words which rhyme with wank, "sheet" rhymes with shit, end (how was your weak end? being the standard salutation on a Monday morning). Sounds childish, most people would easily tell him to fuck off; except to people with predisposition to depression and the inability to express themselves (this was before I started taking medication), that sort of nastiness is not bearable. After ten months of this I was so ill I was crying constantly, eventually I went into hospital and started on medication. Somebody else he did this to (over a year later!) got so depressed he took an overdose of pills, had to go on antidepressants and left. And where does the "concrete proof" of this trouble exist? NOWHERE. Even if you had physical evidence, even if you had the presence of mind to record what was said, how could you prove what he actually meant by what he was saying? In some cases of harassment you can prove what was done, because it's undeniable. But when the harassment is done with any presence of mind whatsoever, it becomes difficult. I've lived in London almost all my life, and just walking around the streets, I never got hassled by anybody. All of a sudden, people start harassing you, throwing abuse at you, behaving as if they know you personally, as if they've seen you before somewhere. I read in the papers that this happens to Colin Stagg and people like that Eastenders actress, but they've had their picture in the paperes, so that is understandable. First iof all, in 1992 I worked for a company where the people made clear they knew what was going on, first of all directly (the very first evening I was there I went out to the pub with them and the Technical Directpor said to another guy, "is this the bloke who's been on TV?" "yeah, I think so") and also indirectly, by rep[peating stuff I was saying at home in London and in my rented accomodation there (I moved several times in the course of 1992 and they followed me each time). Now, if "they" (the buggers) knew their bugs could be found easily, they wouldn;'t be keen to make their existence known, would they? Also, in summer 1992 I went on a trip abroad to Europe by coach, and on the way out there were a couple a little younger than myself on the coach a bloke and hius girlfriend. He said things about some bloke who was never named, who sounded exactly like me - and he made explicitly clear that our house was bugged, and that a neighrbours house was bugged (and at work they'd been rep[earting what was said at the neighbours, so this looks like independent corroboration). Nope, what you see is what there is. And for the purposes of the asset
allocation tool, each investment can have only one single investment type,
even if it's a balanced investment fund.
