I make a payment to a mortgage company that escrows for taxes and insurance
to be paid out at the end of the year. Who has suggestions as to the
easiest method of tracking this?

I have an escrow account setup in addition to my mortgage account. In my
mortgage payment, one of the split lines is a Transfer In to this account.
When taxes are actually paid, they're expenses on that account.

I'd handle Insurance as a split line on the payment - I don't know why that
would be any different than other split expenses (taxes from payroll for
example), but I don't know the specifics of your situation.

Hope this helps -

I do exactly what John does as well, except that my mortgage payment is =
basically principal, interest and a transfer to my escrow account. My =
taxes and insurance are both paid out of my escrow account as that is =
how my mortgage is set up (taxes twice a year, insurance once a year).

already been said.
