    - MONEY 2004 Two questions! I just upgraded to Money 2004 from 2002 - all features are working except statement downloads from BofA California. I have to manually go to BofA and download/import from their site then match the account up to what MS Money 2004 thinks it should be...agree to that and then it starts the import. An error message then comes up and states that the file is corrupted and unable to download. I didn't have this problem with 2002. BofA says they're looking into it - but has no workaround other than downloading in QIF format. Any ideas? OFX files do not work at all (and they should as they have in the past) - QIF files do not have any detail to the downloads other than basic date/amount/payee info. And 2nd question. Why does American Express daily call updates work well, but BofA has to be downloaded only after going to their website? I have a Yodlee account that manages to aggregate all my accounts on-line just fine without having to go to a particular site and then "download" a date range to get my information. If Yodlee can do this then Money should also be able to do this... other than this I've no problems with Money 2004, it works great and I love the new features and enhancements....Thanx for the help.     - More budget woes Ok, I now see the "Expenses over budgeted limits" section on the budget review screen. However, this still only shows categories for which I have budgeted. If I made a 50,000 expense to a category that isn't in my budget, I can see no place where this shows up as a red flag. The budget review screen and the Monthly/Annual budget report ONLY show budgeted categories. With Quicken I can select an option to show ALL categories that have nonzero budgeted/actual amounts, which lets me see which categories have enough spending in them to be added to the budget.     - Money 2004 Entering Transactions When I enter a transaction into my checking account, Money recognizes the Payee from a drop-down list. However, when I hit Enter on that Payee, it does not show the correct Category. So, every time I choose this Payee, I have to manually tab to the Category and fix it. How can I correct this Category for the Payee so that I do not have to correct it each entry? Or is Money 2004 not able to change a category for a recorded Payee once it's been memorized?     - Making Money 2003 Work with Pocket PC 2003 It worked for us! Here it is: If you have 2004, you can use a WM2003 compatible add-on on your Pocket PC. As posted earlier: ----- I got this from another user and it works great. I am impressed. Okay, this seems to be working, and first off, I must give credit where credit is due... http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php? s=&threadid=82240&perpage=10&pagenumber=1 Follow these instructions and you should be able to install Money for the PPC (2003 version): 1. With the PPC in the cradle and ActiveSync running, start the installation of Pocket Money for Money 2003 on the desktop. 2. Go through the normal install routine, following the prompts on the desktop machine. 3. When the PPC pops up an error message, don't clear it. Instead, open File Explorer on the PPC. (I don't know if the error message needs to remain open, but without having experimented, I suggest leaving it on screen for now.) 4. Browse to "My Device /Windows /AppMgr /Install" and tap-and-hold on the file that is in that folder. (This is the one caveat... your folder may end up being different, but something tells me that this is the folder you should look in). The file should be obviously related to Pocket Money. 5. When the menu appears, choose copy. 6. Still using File Explorer on the PPC, browse to "My Device /Temp" and paste the file in this new folder. 7. Once the file appears in this new folder, single tap the file. The installation will begin on its own. 8. Close the error message from the original installation. 9. After you have successfully installed Money, with the PPC in the cradle, explore the PPC (use Explore from within ActiveSync). 10. Browse to "My Device /Windows" and look for "MoneyCE". 11. Right click on this file and choose "Create a shortcut". 12. Move this shortcut to "My Device /Windows /Start Menu /Programs" to finish the install. 13. Rename this new shortcut as "Microsoft Money". 14. Remove the PPC from the cradle. Check the settings for the Money Conduit in ActiveSync, place the PPC back into the cradle, and away you go. At this point, it should be working like a charm. Money shows up in the uninstall listing on the PPC, but I actually don't know if it will work or not. Good luck! Tag: Getting File Open Error !!!     - Direction of Microsoft Money I'v been a loyal fan of Microsoft Money since Money 97 (5.0). Over the years Microsoft has made major improvements of the software. But it seems the Money 2001 was the last version that was a must have upgrade. Money 2002 was a slight improvment, Money 2003 was a waste of cash, and I won't even consider Money 2004 based on what I've been hearing. My question is, what is the direction of the software? The major features users have been screaming for aren't here. Bugs that existed in Money 2001 still exsist and Microsoft seems content on work arounds rather than fixes (Reset Debt Plan button is a good example). Over the past two years I've realized that Microsoft Money is the main reason I still run Windows as opposed to Linux. If a good financial package, with tight integration with banks (Direct 2-way Banking), was available for Linux I would switch to it. I'm guessing I will see Quicken for Linux long before Money for Linux. Is it worth switching now? It seem like the only reasons to release new updates of Money every year is 1) to have the same year on the box as Quicken and 2) to bundle with the latest tax software.     - Money 2004 and PocketPC I have been using Money2003 and Money for the Pocket PC. It has been working great. I was lead to believe it would also work fine with Money2004. I just installed Money2004 and tried to ActiveSync with my iPAQ, and it failed on the Sync of the Money File. Am I missing something?     - Backup files can't be read I had a question that I can't seem to resolve on the money support page. We have Money 97 (5.0) and have never been able to open any backup files we have made. Our computer crashed once and we lost everything. The files are recognized as money files, because when we click on them, the Microsoft Money program opens, but then it says, "There has been an error reading or writing the file . . .[file name]." It then instructs us that we need another file in order to fully open the program. What is the problem? I don't want to lose everything again, and if we get a new computer in the near future, I don't know how we'll transfer the information.     - Flexible Spending Account Does anyone have a good way to setup a Flexible Spending Account (FSA or IRS 125 plan). For example I have $20 deducted from my paycheck each week and it goes to my FSA. As I incur medical costs I can get the money from my FSA. This is all pre-tax money. I setup an FSA as an account and it fills with $20 each paycheck. However I pay my medical expenses with checks and credit cards.     - Debt Reduction Planner Headache OK, here's my story: I've been using Money for about 8 months. Money 2002 came bundled on my laptop. I started using the debt reduction planner about 7 months ago. I set it all up, put my 10 or so accounts (all credit cards) into it, and established that I could pay $400 per month. The minimum payments totaled to about $360, so this was fine. The software told me to make the minimum payments on all but the card with the highest APR, which was to get its minimum payment plus whatever was left out of the $400. This made perfect sense, and I started making and recording payments. The next month, the planner told me to pay this card (with the highest APR) a little more. The problem was, with all the payments, the total was a little over $400, and that's really all I can afford to pay each month. I realized it was in the middle of the month, and figured the software was a little confused by how much of that $400 was still left to pay credit cards. The next month it happened again, and this time I made sure it was at the beginning of all the monthly payments. It had me paying about $600 total. I did my own figuring and just paid what I thought appropriate, totaling $400. As you might have guessed, it kept getting worse. Soon, it was telling me to pay $800 just to that one card, in addition to making the other cards' payments. I upgraded to Money 2004 Deluxe, thinking Microsoft may have solved this problem. I was wrong. As of this past month, the software wants me to pay $1100 to the one card, and I only owe $950 total. I've checked for help on this, have reset the planner twice and have made sure all of the accounts are set up properly (not charge cards, open, etc.). It's still the same. Only the current month is messed up like this; the following months' payments all total to $400 each. It tells me I'll be out of debt by next year, which would be nice, but I would like to have at least a good estimate of when I'll REALLY be out of debt. The letter goes on to state that you would receive several thousand dollars in five-dollar bills within 2 weeks if you sent out the letter with your name at the top of the 5-addressee list. In fact, it was completely legal according to US Postal and Lottery Laws, Title 18, Sections 1302 and 1341, or Title 18, Section 3005 in the US code, also in the code of federal regulations.     - Can't delete deposit from budget I deleted a paycheck from my bill & deposits. The deposit still shows up when I run budget reports for the months originally covered by the deleted deposit (no future months).     - transfering to laon I have just set up a loan for a car. When trying to transfer money to make a payment, the loan does not show up on the list of accounts in the category list - like all my other non-loan accounts. However, the associated asset does. If I select the asset, Money decides the value of the asset goes up by the amount of the payment. This seems screwy. The value of the car has not changed in reality, only my equity in the car. I just downloaded the latest transactions from my account today and though 1 particular transaction has posted to the online account, Money didn't download it and put it in the register for my credit card account. It DID, however, change the balance to reflect the correct amount under the "Downloaded" info section in the upper left of the credit card register screen. I have run salvage with no luck?! I have a credit card account that is several years old that I have been balancing monthly. About 2 years ago there was a transaction from my checking account to the credit card account for payment (from checking acct set up as a transfer to the cc account) that for some reason was voided and entered again. The amount of these transaction appears correctly in the account balance section (the voided transaction has no impact however the re-enetered transaction has the correct credit amount). The cc account was balanced after this transaction, however the voided transaction appears as reconciled "R" while the re-enetered transaction does not appear with the reconciled "R" flag. Subsequent balancing of the cc account all appear correct in that after downloading the statement from the cc issuer (done on a monthly basis as a downloaded statement). What is strange is that the cc account when viewed from the money home page or from the account list shows a credit balance of the amount of that 2-year old payment that is not reconciled. When I look at the account from the account view, this descrepancy is not there. My attempts to get this account to balance have been unsuccessful. I have tried setting the old transaction to "R" during the monthly balance process however then money wants to enter reconciliation transaction to offset the diference it starting balance, if it do this then the account appears correctly when viewed from the money home page or account listings, but when viewed from the account itself, the reconciliation transaction is making the "amount i owe" appear the amount of the 2-year old payment transaction plus current charges. So my question is, how do i force this account to reconcile and keep the view of the accoutn on money home and from within the account in synch? please note that i have been trying various approaches to fix the account on a backup version of the file so I can backtrack on this.     - Very Slow DownloadTimes When I download a particular transaction from my online statments, it takes almost 40 seconds. With 15 transactions to download, that's 10 minutes. It used to take only about 2 or 3 seconds per transaction. Any thoughts out there would be greatly appreciated. The culprit may be that I have transactions from the beginning of 1997 (6.5 years). Excuse me in advance for asking may be a dumb question as
I am very new to Money.

I have installed Microsoft Money 2003 in my home computer.
I was working on a money file and I copied the mony file
to work on my office machine. There I installed Money 2003
Trial version. When I try to open the file saved on my
office machine at home it gives this error...
"You may have made a typing error or typed the password
for a different file."

Any help would be greatly appreciated...
