    - Money 2002 won't sign in to Passport I recently switched ISPs and about the same time, Money 2002 won't sign in to Passport so I can't do background online banking (more of an annoyance than anything). I have checked all my firewall's settings (I moonlight as a network admin when I'm not busy developing apps at work) and have found no problems. I've even reset the switch to be sure. I have contact my ISP and they assure me that there are no proxies in place. I can, however, sign in to Passport via Windows and MSN Messenger, and every Passport-enabled site works fine - it's just Money. So, before I upgrade to 2004, I want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth. Can anyone tell me if they've had problems recently with Money 2002 and Passport? (Besides some other problems like removing your Passport account before removing it from Money as I've seen in prevoius posts.) Or is it just me? TIA Tag: Forecasting in Money 2002 Tag: 146002

    - Trial M04: Mutual Fund prices not updating When does money update the prices on Mutual Funds? I am looking at the portfolio view in Money and it shows me the closing prices for wednesday August 13th, yet I'm writing this the evening (11pm) of August 14th. I've told Money to update the prices and it apparently does so as there is no error reported. My other holdings (for what it's worth, they're stocks) are showing the closing prices for August 14th.     - Money 2004 trial - error on online setup I have been a Quicken user and wanted to try MS-Money 2004. Having downloaded the trial version and after converting my Quicken file, when i try to setup on-line services of any financial institution it gives me error "microsoft money has encountered a problem and needs to close ... " . I tried it after creating a new file with one account and no transactions, with the same result. My system has 512 MB of RAM and still has 2.5 gigs free on hd.     - Missing transactions in budget I have been using M '03 for a few months. I have set up a budget and all seemed well. I have a scheduled deposit (twice a month) in the category Deposit:Salary. These transactions go back a few months and show up fine in Monthly and Category reports. However, these deposit transactions are missing from Budget reports and current budget status. I can't imagine how transactions can be there for transaction reports but not for budget reports. And this bad behavior just seemed to start happening this week. Any ideas?     - Oh, the frustration with simple budgeting and bill paying I uninstalled Money 2003 to 'start over'. Prior to the uninstall, Money's annual budget reports were showing dollars automatically adding to the monthly line item of the budget equal to the amount of an account's transaction, e.g., a bill paid in the amount of $50 automatically upped the budget for that month by $50. Why? Also, when I started over, Money unfortunately remembered in the annual report budgeted numbers used prior to the uninstall. How can I get rid of those to have a'pure' start, again.     - Money 2003 - Portfolio View Average Cost Per Share Hi, I'm using Money 2003, and when I'm in Portfolio view, I can't seem to add the column Average Cost Per Share.     - Money 2003: Change investment type from fund to stock One of my investments was set up incorrectly as a mutual fund rather than a stock. Now when I sync with my brokerage website, it doesn't find the stock (since Money thinks it's a mutual fund) and it wants to add all the stock shares to my account as new shares. How can I change the investment type from mutual fund to stock from the Investments area? There are no menu options to do so and the online help doesn't provide any clues.     - Money 2000 invalid page fault I am having a recurring issue in Money 2000 Deluxe. Every time that I go to enter a loan payment for any loan, or click on the 'Bills' link, the program shuts down and I get an error message reading: MSMONEY caused an invalid page fault in module MNYOB99.DLL at 0167:106bcd31 I can start the program back up and it accepted the loan payment but is very annoying having to go through this all the time.     - Moving Credit Card transaction splits to checking acct. In Money Deluxe 2003, I'm trying to see if there is a way of automatically moving my credit card transaction splits into my checking account when I make my monthly payment. Right now, I'm going into the credit card account and designating which expense categories each transaction should be applied to. Then when I make my payment, I have reenter all those expense categories for the check so that they get entered into my budget appropriately.     - Money 2004 and Windows Messenger After installing Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe, now my Windows Messenger does not automatically sign in when starting my computer. I have Windows XP with the built in Windows Messenger. I do not use the passport features of Money. Before, every time I started my computer, Windows Messenger would startup and also auto sign in. Now it will start but not sign in. I cannot find any option to set it to automatically sign in anywhere. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?     - Problem removing shares in Money 2001 When I try to remove all the shares of a mutual fund investment, I get a message that says doing so will cause a negative balance at some point, and advises me to arrange the transactions so this doesn't happen. Obviously removing all shares would bring the balance to zero, but I don't see why it would ever go negative. The same message appears whether I try to confirm a downloaded transaction, or try to do the transaction manually. Nothing I try to work around this seems to work.     - Credit Transactions & Budgets Looking for recommendations: Trying to figure out how to best set up my budget to reflect credit charges and the payments I then make the to the credit card companies. For instance, if I purchase $100 dollars in clothing on my Visa on 8/1/2003, I allocate the charge in my Visa account to the Clothing category. If I run the monthly budget report for 8/2003, it'll show $100 for clothing as an expense. I then send a check to Visa for $100 which also shows as an expense on the monthly budget report. It appears as though I've spent $200 for 8/2003. Should I exclude transfers on the budget reports? Just not clear on how to handle credit card transactions and how to accurately reflect the expense.     - Default .mny File Location Money 2003 ".mny" and ".mbf" files are saved by default to my My Documents folder. Because this is a very busy folder on my computer that regularly gets synchronized with a backup CD it is risky to keep my key Money files in this location. I feel sure that I could just move the files to a new location and still run Money but I would probably have to point the system to the new location each time I opened Money and I don't want to go through that hassle. I can find no options to change the default path to the core Money data files in Help. This probably means that I will have to go into the registry and change the path.     - Money 2004 slow I just installed Money 2004 and it seems to work fine only that it is extremely slow. Sometimes it takes a full minute to view one line transaction time from another. Other app programs on my system all work fine. This one seems to be the only one to be so slow. I have a Celeron 466 with 192 mb RAM and 30 gb harddrive. I want to generate a report based on Classification 1 and would like to see a summary only with no detail.. just the amounts for each Classification.     - System Failures after Money 2003 I have had a new PC for 18 months running on XP and Money 99 without any problems whatsoever. I recently upgraded to Money 2003 and now the problems have started. Firstly I am unable to download bank statements - although it suggests they've been downloaded but, unlike before, I have no idea where they go and secondly my PC has shutdown half a dozen times with 'NT Authority System Remote Procedure Call(RPC) Failure'. These shutdowns have even occurred when I've tried sending an email with attachments! I have no viruses and so can only conclude this is a result of the Money upgrade.     - Passport Amnesia Passport or my computer doesn't remember my user/pw combo, or I should say when I check the "remeber my password" check box it won't let me sign in. I'm not sure if it's an IE6 security setting or what. Haven't been able to find anything in the MS knowledge base. In IE6 I do block all cookies but have passport.net set to "allow all".     - Installer Problems Hi! I had Money 2002 on my computer. I "downloaded" the Money 2004 "trial". (I have decided to purchase it soon anyway.) My question: Everytime I "click on" my Money icon on desktop, the Windows Installer trys to install it again and I can't just open money. Then a pop up comes up & says "please insert Money 2004 CD". I do want to post that the issue *was corrected* in Money 2004 Deluxe. I am unable to duplicate the missing/disappearing payee problem in Money 2004 Deluxe. The issue was resolved in Money 2004. I have included the details of my findings from working on the issue with Money 2003 below: I have duplicated and solved the disappearing payee problem. I have worked on the issue for the past day and a half. I tried many things to figure it out, but I finally found the combination of events that is necessary to get the program to make a payee mysteriously vanish from the explicit list. I can now make any payee vanish from the explicit list at will by doing a certain combination of things. The conditions that are required to duplicate the vanishing payee problem are as follows: 1.. You must have the option in money 2003 under the "Online Services" tab that reads "Replace downloaded payee names with user-altered names when available" selected. 2.. You download a transaction that your bank has given the EXACT same name as a payee in your master list in MS Money (Explanation: say you have a payee in your Money file called "Tom's Diner" ; a lot of times when you download a statement from your bank it will have a weird looking name like "TomDin#2347", but sometimes the name may EXACTLY match the name that is in your Money file's explicit list. I.E. the downloaded transaction will also have the name "Tom's Diner" and be spelled EXACTLY the same as the way you have it spelled in your explicit payee list. This is when the problem occurs) 3.. You accept that downloaded transaction when it is matched to a previously manually entered transaction. When these conditions are met, the payee will vanish off of the explicit list and become implicit immediately after accepting the transaction. There is then no way to make the payee become explicit again, except for a rename and find/replace technique that is a pain. This is definitely a bug, but for now I have found two work arounds. Work around 1: Deselect the option under the "Online Services" tab that reads "Replace downloaded payee names with user-altered names when available" The benefit that is lost by deselecting this option: When Money downloads a transaction into an account register that does not have any matching transaction to go with it, Money will not automatically alias a preferred payee name from the preferred payee names database. You will either have to change the payee name to the one that you want to use before you accept the transaction, or you can just accept the transaction with whatever name is downloaded from your financial institution. ***If you do your accounting the way that I do, having this option deselected will not usually affect you. I always have transactions that I have first manually entered into Money to match to the downloaded transactions before I download a statement. When this is done, the name that was assigned to the transaction when I entered it manually will stick. The option to be deselected was designed more so for people that do not enter their transactions manually before downloading a statement to reconcile against them. Instead they like to save time by having Money create and reconcile their transactions simultaneously when the accept button is selected on their downloaded transactions. Work around 2: (if you desire to keep the "Replace downloaded payee names with user-altered names when available" option selected) Rename the payees in your Money file to names that are very unlikely to ever be exactly the same as the payees that your financial institution assigns. This will not affect transaction matching very much. Money can still do a good job at matching downloaded transactions even though the payee names may not be spelled identically. Things like dates, amounts, check numbers, etc. still let Money be quite accurate when matching downloaded transactions. In addition, when you do match an unequal name for the first time, Money will then add that name to the payee names variation list for that payee, so that future matches for that payee will be even easier for Money to cipher. A simple way to change the payee names in your money file to accomplish this work around would be to append all of them with a special character like one of these "~$%^*&*!+" So instead of calling a payee "Tom's Diner" call it "Tom's Diner*". This work around will not work for online enabled payees, because their names are locked after the first payment to them is made, but when creating future online payee names you can give this some consideration before deciding on a name for them. If you follow these steps, you can stop payees from disappearing from the explicit list. Or as I stated above, you can upgrade to Money 2004. The issue was corrected by Microsoft in that version. I get a message that says, "Call Complete".     - "Rollover" budget buckets I have been keeping a budget in Excel for years and finally convinced myself to start using Money to manange our expenses. However, I'm stumped with trying to set up our budget in Money 2002 because I can't get the sw to do some very simple budgeting techniques. How do I set these up in Money 2002? (2) How do I establish a starting balance for each of these bucket items (i.e., if we have a $1200 budget for the year for Christmas gifts, and it's now August, I've allocated $800 already to Christmas - how do I allocate the $800 to this category in Money 02)? (3)For normal budget items, like groceries, I want the remaining amount not spent in a given month to automatically roll-over to the next month (unless I realocate it to another category). I don't think it is doing this in Money 02. Shouldn't it work this way? Am I missing something? Please let me know what I'm doing wrong! I am so frustrated. Sounds like one of your bills/deposits has become corrupted. Take a backup
of the file, and go through each bill/deposit deleting it until the cash
flow comes back. Then go to the backup, delete the single bill/deposit in
question and recreate it. Cash flow should be okay now.

Alternatively, some people report that modify all of the existing entries
(maybe even just opening them up and saving them again) will reset this too.
