I just converted my M2004 file to M2007. In the Food categories and
subcategories most of my sub-categories did not transfer. Also, most of the
history of transactions in the Food categories and sub-categories do not
show up.
I have lost about $26,000 of Food spending history.
Any ideas of what happened? And what can be done to get this information
into the M2007 file?

Thanks,
John

It sounds like you are describing a slightly different case than the one I'm
familiar with. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=163 for that case. My bet
is that your data is still there, it's just got a new category. If the FAQ
answer doesn't get you there, try Find and Replace for, say, Payee names you
think are gone to find out where they went. The FAQ answer is about to be
updated--Real Soon Now--to say M04 and below still see this upgrading to
M07.

Also, check
Tools->Settings->Categories->UseTheDualCategoryDropdownControl if it
is cleared.

To work with categories, you can go to
Banking->AccountTools->Categories&Payees->Categories ; select a
payee. You can use Move to combine or even rename payees.
Double-click the entry, and you can get the Details. That shows you
information including the transactions associated with the payee. If
you make an abbreviation that is unique in its early letters, it can
let you type a shorter sequence to enter a category more briefly.
For example, if F1 or FD is the abbreviation for Food:DiningOut,
then you could just enter F1 or FD to enter the category.

Thanks Dick for your reply.
I successfully edited the categories according to your faq and now have all
my food sub-categories where they belong.
Thanks,
John

Thanks for your reply,
I have attempted to go to:

"Tools->Settings->Categories->UseTheDualCategoryDropdownControl if it
| is cleared."

My M07 screen shows:
Tools->Settings->Category settings->

but I do not see:
->UseTheDualCategoryDropdownControl

Closest thing to that is:
->Show Full Category List->

Could this be what you are referring to?

OH, I also see ->Choose categories and subcategories from separate lists->

Maybe this?

Thanks,
John

That was it. I was using notes from Money 2006, and the setting has
been renamed.
