Just bought Money 2006 Standard (Canadian Edition), and installed the program
without difficulties. However, I am unable to login to Passportâ?¦prompted:
â??Your sign-on information could not be verifiedâ??. I can log in to my Hotmail
account, or any other online element requiring my passport. I have logged
off, thinking a conflict may be the issue, and have reviewed the online
support options, and tried a fewâ?¦all too no avail.

If I cannot log into this program, I canâ??t use it! All suggestions welcome!

Cheers,

Dave

If you are trying to work with an existing file with a Passport, you
would need to log into Passport on the file. If you were creating a
new file, you would not need a Passport on that file. You would
select "decline" as you are creating the new file.

Yes, I am trying to create my first file to begin; but if I do not accept to
use Passport, I will not be able to update my banking info automatically; or
can I set that up once in my new file?

From what I understand, the Canadian banks are not set up to
download banking info automatically. There will be a website
involved.

See http://www.microsoft.com/money/bankonline.aspx

Unless your financial institution's description includes the phrase
"third party", Passport would not allow fuller access. You can add a
Passport to a file later.

OK, the plot thickens, and is extremely frustrating. I did as suggested and
Declined Passport, and opened a new file. I opened my new file, and tried to
create a Bank Account; Iâ??m asked to connect to the internet, which is what I
what to create and update my banking info. Iâ??m now prompted that Iâ??m not
connected to the internet. First off, Iâ??m always connected; second, I tried
to connect using the Online button in Money, but no luckâ?¦says Iâ??m working
offline, which Iâ??m not. What the heck is up with this program. If this
continues, I think I many have to look at other software, as this is simply
not worth the frustration!

Any further suggestion!

Not true, I used money several years back, and did all my banking online via
Money. I have to say that the early version worked much better then this
newer oneâ?¦I still cannot connect through Money to the net. Perhaps I need to
figure out the issues with Passport to resolve any issues. I just donâ??t
understand why this is being so difficult. I canâ??t even review the program
properly if Iâ??m not allowed to go online and manage my accounts; this is
completely unacceptable, and Iâ??m a fairly competent using such software and
PCâ??s in general, I cannot imagine the grief of an average user struggling to
get this software up and running :-o(

Can you connect to websites such as
http://www.microsoft.com/money/bankonline.aspx with IE6?

Money 2006 is not compatible with IE7 beta.

Iâ??m running IE 6, and have viewed the link provided, and all my banks are
present. I have shut down, re-booted, and reviewed all the online helpâ?¦I
have just emailed MS Support on this issue, and Iâ??ll have to wait and see
what they can offer. So much for ease of use; I wasted several hours last
night with this issue, and have invested another 2 hours today. Not happy!

In internet explorer options, Advanced tab, check the boxes near the bottom
for "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" and "Empty Temporary Internet Files
when browser is closed". Can also try the Delete Files button on the general
tab.

Hi; I did as asked, but no change :-o(

While playing around, although Money still says I cannot connect to the
internet, even though Iâ??m connected, I can enter my Banks URL address
directly and go to the site, while in Money. Now hereâ??s the kicker; I went
to my banks site, and thought that I would simply download my account
transactions directly, which I did, and the bank site stated that I didâ?¦but
nothing shows in Money. In the older version, I would simple click on, go to
site, or update account etcâ?¦and it would take me to my bank, I would login,
and download my transactions, and bingo, they would populate the correct
fields for my review. Why is Money 2006 giving me such a hard time? And I
still canâ??t log into Money using my Passport?

Are you using Norton in it's various anti-virus/firewall guises?

If so you need to uninstall Money, uninstall Norton, install Money and then
reinstall Norton.

Quick update: the following procedure solved my problem, and all is currently
working fine; thank you all for your responses!

Change the Internet Connection setting in Money
======================================
1. Start Money 2006 and click File, click New... or click File, click New
and then click New File....
2. Click Next, choose Decline and click Yes when you receive a warning.
3. Check the "I don't want to use a password for my Money file" option and
click Next.
4. Click the "Skip Account Setup" link and click Finish.
5. Click Tools and click Settings and then click Browser settings and select
Connection Settings.
6. Check if there are any connections listed under "Dial-up and Virtual
Private Network settings". If there are any, select each of them one by one
and make sure "Never dial a connection" is selected.
7. Click the "LAN Settings" button, make sure the settings are correct, and
then click OK.
8. Switch to the Advanced tab and make sure the following items are checked:
-Use HTTP 1.1
-Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections
9. Click OK and close Money 2006.
10. Restart the computer and try to update the program again.

Thanks for the info. In your case, which step do you think was the
one where you made the change that made it work for you?

The only settings I changed were steps 7 and 8. I changed my LAN setting to
Auto detect, and selected both HTTP options;
- Use HTTP 1.1
- Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections

I then rebooted, and all worked fine.

Hope you have a great weekend!
