I have problems with MS Money on my desktop computer and I simply want to
move/export my money file to my laptop, but that seems to be impossible. That
seems to be impossible, at least Money on the laptop refuses to read the
file.

What error message? Incompatible version? That would indicate that
the Money versions are different regions.

It's the same Money version, so that can't be the problem. I copy the
mny-file from my desktop computer to an USB-memory, starts Money on my laptop
and click File, Open. Money finds the file and starts to convert it, but soon
I get the following error message:

"Money cannot locate 'E:\My Money.mny' or cannot open it, possibly because
it is a read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your
disk drive is write protected."

The same problem occurs when I, on the laptop, try to restore from a backup
file from my desktop computer.

Don't take the default location for the restore. Browse to a spot to
place the Money file.

What do you mean by "convert it"? You said you have the same Money
version on both computers, so there /should/ be no conversion happening.
Are you getting a message that Money tries to convert the file?

Does it work, if you copy it from your USB stick onto your C: drive?

If you create a new empty Money file (under a different name of course,
so you're not deleting your main data file) and move that between the
two computers, do you have the same problem?
