Just upgraded to Money 2005 (from 04) and I now have four
credit card accounts instead of two. After calling MS
tech support I was told that the reason I have four
accounts instead of two is; two have the new Essential
Account Register view and two have the Advanced Account
Register view. This is dumb. Why does it show you the
different views as duplicate accounts? It makes it look
like you have more accounts then you really do. It even
calls them a different name of the original accounts...
Anyone experience this strange function???
Very disappointed as this feature doesn't make sense!

For some reason this version creates a new account when you first connect to
online services. Tech support was wrong. What you need to do is go to
Account List, choose "Merge duplicate accounts" on the left bar and then
match up the duplicates.

You'll only need to perform this action once after upgrading and
successfully connecting to online services.

Don't know why Tech support said that; try to "merge" the accounts.

Jeff,
Thanks for responding. I did try that but it displays
only one account that is a credit card that I manually
enter in. However the pull down menu does list all the
online accounts. Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

Michael, can you clarify some things for me, please? (Or anybody else...)

An "Essential Register" account REQUIRES online access setup. Why? Can an
"Essential Register" account be converted to an "Advanced Register" account?
What's the difference between the two? It looks to me as if the difference
is that an Essential Register account is nothing more than a Money view of
yodlee data? (It's just a one-stop login to all of the FI web sites; no
more, no less.) Can you enter your own transactions in it the old-fashioned
way? How does a user, say, setup an "Essential Register" view of her pocket
change or some other virtual account? If all one uses is Essential Register,
what has Money added over, say, Fidelity Full View?

Is it safe to say that an "Essential Register" is to an "Advanced Register"
as a bank statement is to a checkbook register?

Wrong question. Money did not "add over". It intentionally provided a view
looking like the bank's web page. Kinda integration. That's what the users
wanted. With the old interface, they were sometimes confused because Money
intrerface was too different from the bank web page. With Money 2005, these
users will feel more confortable.

So why do these users want to use Money then?

Hello Dick:
You wrote in conference microsoft.public.money on Sun, 19 Sep 2004

DW> So why do these users want to use Money then?

1. For the reasons similar to why they buy magazines for $3-4 where 90% are
commercials, and the rest 10% are commercials disguised as articles.

2. Because PC Magazine praised it.

Hi Dick,
I think I looked at the "essential" register very early on and then never
again.
I'll take a look.
