Classification: initial balance
I have Money 2002. I am a property manager and use "Properties" as a
classification. This being a new year, I need to set up balances for each
property I manage. For example, from the same bank account, I need to set up
Money so that Property 1234 starts the year with $1000, while Property 5678
starts with $1500, etc. Any idea how to do that? Tag: Error When closing Money 2006 Tag: 232485
do CC payments show up in cash flow?
I use my CC to track most of my spending and pay off the bill each month when
it comes, using a transfer from my checking to the CC. Money downloads it as
"internet payment" and it jives with the transfer that I made from my
checking account.
However, it doesn't appear in my cash flow forecast, either as a trended
item or an approximate one. Is it supposed to?

How reliable is MS Money?
I would appreciate some feedback on how reliable MS Money is in
regards to online banking? I currently have Quicken 2008 and it has
never been reliable in that regard. It was a pain to setup, but after
correctly initial balance errors all was well for maybe a week. Then
it had problems downloading transactions with bank #1 After fixing
that a few times bank #1 seems to be stable Bank #2 starting bombing
out shortly there after and has never worked more than a day at the
most since. Sometimes the error would say it was on quicken's end and
they would fix withing 48 hours yet a month later and I am still
waiting. I bought the software to save time not waste it and It's not
worth the hassle to remove/reinstall every time I need to download new
transactions . How does money compare as far as online stability is
concerned?

Unaccepted transactions not showing up
I have had no problems before but today I updated my accounts and every
account says it has transactions but no are showing up. I can even select
accept all tranactions and nothing happens, It still says I have
transactions to accept. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone know
what I can do>
I have rebooted already but that is the extent of my fix... Please help.

Money Account Balance Discrepancy with Bank Balance
I've been using Microsoft Money since 2002. My current version is 2007
Premium. My checking account balance in Money is no longer in synch with
my Bank's balance. I regularly download/reconcile my account information.
My checking account balance was last reconciled with Money on 12/24/07. All
of my transactions matched perfectly. Then on 1/1/08 I noticed a
discrepancy between my online account balance and the Microsoft Money
account balance. The discrepancy is for $387.72. That happens to be the
exact same amount as a starting balance adjustment I had to do on one of my
credit cards several months ago. Since I have a similar error for an
identical amount of money I'm thinking the error is with Money. On the
credit card account it wasn't a problem since the adjustment was a credit.
I've had to do starting balance adjustments on my credit cards in the past
and it was never a big deal. But I've never had a discrepancy like this
with my checking account.
All transactions from my bank and Money are identical and other than the
balance discrepancy there's no obvious math calculation error. I was able
to reconcile my account today but had to do a starting balance adjustment
because of the balance discrepancy. Any idea as to why I would get such a
weird error? And how to prevent this sort of thing from ever happening
again?

MS Money 2007 Deluxe vs Money Plus?
Is their any reason to upgrade? I downloaded the Demo of Plus but it
looks just like 2007. I see no reason to drop $30 bucks.
I wish they'd get a feature where I can enter a transaction on the
money website and then sync when I get home. I like to enter stuff

Unable to go online with Passport acct
I've seen posts from a week ago or so from others having the same
problem as me. I can not get MSM2006 to go online with my
hotmail/passport account. I am able to log into my hotmail email
account successfully. I seem to recall this happening a few years ago
when MS released a XP update that broke something. Does anyone know
what change or patch I need to get past this login problem?

Money Plus (2008) on XP - continuous prompts to update Money
I am running Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe 17.0.120.727 on Windows XP.
Microsoft Money Plus prompts me repeatedly for a required software update.
The update appears to download and install successfully. However the next
time I run Money, it again prompts to install a required software update.
Here are the dialogues presented:
"To continue operating successfully, Money requires a software update. Click
OK to close Money and begin the udpate now."
"Money is now ready to download the new files. To begin the installation,
click OK."
"Please wait while Microsoft Money Update installs a required software
update. This might take several minutes."
I reviewed KB 927811. This is for Vista. The article tells me to delete
MNYCoreFiles, but I can't see how that will work -- that's where Money's
program files are installed!
I reviewed the directory where Microsoft Money Plus is installed. There is
some sort of new directory created today during the most recent run. The
directory is named:
"C:\Program
Files\MoneyPlus2008\MNYCoreFiles.NEW.{9D6EAA4F-27B2-4407-AC72-4BBD2FCB6ED1}"
It contains a .CAB file that seems to have the same name as every program.
Example: msmoney.exe.cab

Payee/Category cuts off details
Hi, I'm a new Money Plus user and though I'm impressed overall, the very very
short field length for Payee/Category is a dealbreaker for me. I don't know
if the text is being cut off when downloading from my bank or in the program
but when my field reads:
CHECK CARD PURCHASE XXXXXXXXX AM
I don't know how to categorize it. The full text is available on my bank
website. How about a nvarchar(150) ? =oD

After almost 3 years problem w/ money2005
Please help.
I have used Money Small Business 2005 for about 3 years. I download my
financial information manually from my bank sucessfully until this week. I
opened Money and in the reminders section of the home page it says I have 2
statements to read. I clicked on that and it shows 35 transactions in one
checking account and 26 in the other. When I click on either account my
register shows up minus the newly downloaded transactions. Has any one else
had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Automatic upgrades/updates - 2nd attempt
RE: money 2007 Deluxe
Whenever I open Money it attempts to contact Microsoft to look for program
updates and upgrades. Not a problem at home with an always on broadband
connection but it can be an expensive agrivation elsewhere. I frequently
have to use a cell or satellite phone and have to wait for Money to
communicate with "Mother" before I can do a update with the bank. With some
sattelite connections lasting only a few minutes it often means I can't
connect to the bank.
Any way to defeat or turn this feature off? I've unchecked anything (no
sponsorship or shopping links, no special offers) that looks like it may be
causing this in the settings menu.

Where do I go to provide feedback and requests for Money features?
I have used Money 2003, 2004, and 2007, hoping with each version that they
will fix basic problems, and the MS Money team never fails to disappoint.
Generally, I'm quite pleased with all other MS products, and seldom need to
research how to get something done... However, Money has to be the most
"non-Microsoft" product that Microsoft produces! It works more like
something I would expect from AOL or Apple. Each new version gets prettier,
but it lacks basic functionality that ALL of their products have (like
Copy-Paste functionality, export to standard MS file formats)!
For example, with almost any MS product, I can right click over a line of
text or a file, select "Copy", and paste it... Yet, I cannot copy a line of
text from Money, which uses a balance sheet that looks like an Excel object,
and copy it into Excel (WTF?!), and even if I could, using <SHIFT> to select
multiple records doesn't work, so I'd have to do it line by line!
I could go on, and on, and on, and on... Anybody know where I can submit
feedback to MS, like "fire the development team!"? I've tried following
links from Microsoft, but I never get to a form where I can actually submit
feedback...
If they don't fix this stuff, I'll just resort to storing all my financial
data in a spreasheet, because at this point, it's easier to do...

Two different kinds of backup files from manual and backup on exit
Every time I exit Money I get backup files with names like
qdata05 Backup d2_2008-01-09_121457
On the other hand if I use the back up function while Money is
operating, the progress bar informs that the file is being
compressed,then backed up I get files with names like
my2005 backup D1
which are about 1/5 of the size
my2005.MNY is the name of the actual money i file i open each time
2 questions...
If I should ever need to restore a backup, would the compressed
and uncompressed files (if created without any change made
in between to the .mny file) produce the same results?
Where does the qdata05 portion of automatic backup on exit
file name come from and is there a way to change it.

Money File Issue
I'm running Money 2007 and within the last six months my file--over
seven years old--has cahnged itself to a temp file. It's named
mbfED.tmp. I've tried to rename it to a regular money file and it
will not open and I need to restore the back-up and it opens again
with this name. I've also tried to re-name the back-up and it does
the same thing. I've also tried to repair it with the Money repair
utility and as soon as I selct repair Money closes automatically.
I'm thinking of just starting a new file but I have so much data I
want to keep...

money 2002 password problem
i've be using msmoney 2002 for years without a problem. i just replace my HD
in my laptop and reinstalled money 2002. it's a XPinstall
with the new install i've tryed loading my old data file, if will now not
accept my password!!??
i can still logon to my msmoney profile online, but my primary file will not

When I start Money the MSN sign on screen opens,I close the sign on screen
but it just keeps showing up again.I minimize it but it just keeps popping

HTTP 400 ERROR
Hello, I am using Money 2007 (or is it 2008), anyway, all of a suuden I am
receiving the following error when I log onto my brokerage account to
download latest data:

I do not believe that I have changed any settings, Password and ID are
correct, this is a new issue on two computers (Laptop and Desktop). I use
the same password and ID when I log into the brokerage web site (although
downloads for Money must come from within money).
I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue but, I believe this
problem started around the time I subscribed to Microsoft one care.

Money 2008 - stuck at "Updating your accounts"
Money 2008 seems to stick at "Updating your accounts", msmoney.exe
then takes an excessively large amount of CPU. I've left this run
overnight and it eventually clears but it's basically making Money un-
usable.
I'm running it on Vista 64bit - current updates etc. I've been a
Money user forever and this is just horrible.

Quicken has a linked account that automatically transfers transaction
between brokerage and checking. I have downloaded the free trial of
Money since Quicken 2008 seems a little buggy. I do not see a way to

Can anyone tell me how to create a money market account for an ira? I
tried to create one by setting up an investment account, but i'm
having trouble balancing the account between the cash transactions and

MS Money tries to match existing credit card transactions with downloaded
ones. My txns are downloaded exclusively.

App_hang on splitting E-file transaction
OS: Vista 64bit
I keep getting an app_hang when I try to split a downloaded transaction into
2 other split transactions. Specifically, the 2 splits are loan payments
(hence split into interest + principal) written on a single check. Whenever
I go to change the downloaded cleared check to reference the 2 seperate loan
payments, the application hangs. When I re-start money the transaction keeps
getting downloaded again and then hangs the app again when I try to split.
You should fix that :P

Does anyone know what MONEY versions (if any) have a balance sheet report? I
am running 2006 (prem/deluxe??) right now and will upgrade if I can get a

Delayed transfer between accounts
I've been a user of Money for about 4 years and have never tried using it for
tracking investments, tax planning, etc... until now. I specifically have
two quesitions:
1. I have a money market savings account at a different bank and frequently
transfer to and from this account. The only problem is that it takes about 3
days to transfer for one account to the other. For example a transfer from
my checking account will post on the third. It won't show up in the savings
account until the sixth or seventh. To date, I've been using a "Special"
transfer from one account to the other and not worrying about the date. I
would like to get the dates in both accounts to match the dates posted by the
banks but haven't figured out a good way to do it if it is even possible.
Should I not worrying about placing the transfers in a specific category and
just leave this blank? This problem also relates to my second question.
2. I have my paycheck setup as a deposit with all the taxes, insurance, and
401K information. My problem here is that there is a couple days delay
between when my paycheck is deposited to when my 401K account shows a
contribution. This is throwing off my whole 401K performance. Any thoughts
on this? Will I just have to manually enter the contribution information
into my 401K account and not take advantage of the before taxes tab on my
paycheck deposit?

Do I , or don't I
I need to use a software package for my accounts . On the surface Money
should be the obvious answer . I hoped that with a few swift clicks in a
wizard , MSMoney would download all of my statement info from my 'high street
UK Bank' for the last 5 years and 'hey presto' !!??
Alas , the download is a US version (MoneyPlus08) and it doesn't have my
Bank listed. Then , having spoke to my Bank they offered a raised brow to my
plight and then .......fell back asleep claiming that no one had ever asked
for the statements electronically before .
Last quick point - am I being too demanding requiring live interaction
between money and the bank or has it been in a previous version of money.

Money 2005 - Error 6025 After Updating
Hello!
Please apologize my poor English! But there is no German Group for this
product.
Yesterday I got a new Money 2005 bought by Amazon. After installing and
while I was preparing a new bank account I got the offer to update. I
canceled this update and worked, imported datas from my bank and so on. All
worked correct!
Maybe an hour or so later I got again the offer to update and I accepted.
After updating, closing und performing a new start of Money I always get the
error message - "Runtime Error! Program: C:\Programme\Microsoft Money
2005\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe R6025 - pure virtual function call" - when I
try to import new data from my bank.
Has anybody the same problem and resolved it?
Has anybody an idea how to solve the problem?
Is there a support from Microsoft? I did not find it for my software Money
2005.
The solution which I found in Article ID : 240437, Last Review : February 6,
2007
Revision : 4.0 does not work, because there is no "rsabase.dll" on my
computer, with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3,
v.3264.
I downloaded rsabase.dll and tried to register it, but it did not work. I
think that this dll ist to old, because it is only for older versions of
windows (95 - ME).

My Money file has been deleted twice for no reason. I have the latest =
version of Money running on Windows Vista. This seems to have started =
just a week ago and has now happened twice. I have no idea where it's =
going or how its deleted so I was wondering if anyone else has =

Luckily Vista keeps several "shadow" copies of the file so its easy to =
recover but I would like to know what's causing this. =20

MS Money can't stop the bank's Web site from generating an OFX or QIF
file, but of course the product could refuse to import the file 2 years
after activation.
I have been downloading OFX files from my bank, into MS Money 2003 for
about 5 years now.
Question: If I upgraded to Money 2007 or 2008, would I be forced to
upgrade again in 2 years, whether I wanted to or not? That's what this
page seems to say.
Maybe I should stay on Money 2003 forever, right?

OFX versus QIF
I understand that OFX is generally better than QIF for downloading.
BUT, when I use my debit card at the local Albertson's grocery store, the
transaction shows up online at my Bank of America web site as follows:

When I download using "Statement Download for Money 2006 and above", I get
an OFX file that has this:

Obviously, Money imports this with the payee name being all numbers (plus
the date 12/24) and therefore all meaningless as far as Money detecting
that it's Albertson's. The word "ALBERTSONS" is so far into the
description that the OFX format can't include it. That Name field is what,
only 32 characters?
The "Quicken and Microsoft Money QIF file (4 digit)" format, however, has

But I have heard so many people say not to use QIF that I don't want to try
to import a QIF file (after all these years of importing OFX files). I
have lived with fixing all of the Albertson's transactions, but it's a
pain. (I also don't want any duplicate transactions that might arise from
switching formats.)
The format "Web Connect for Quicken 2005 and above" gives a qfx file with
this:

pretty much like the other QIF file.
Is the 4 digit QIF file not recommended? Any problems if I switch?

Transfer Funds inside a 401k
My 401k has recently changed all the accounts from publicly traded funds to
private funds. How do I move the balances to the new funds (and keep the

Investment Type
I am using Money 2006 Premier. I incorrectly classified a sock as a mutual
fund and now can't change the investment type. The details screen does not
have an appropriate check box. I deleted all transactions with the hope that
I could then delete the investment and reenter it with the correct type.
However Money will not allow me to delete the investment insisting there are
open transactions even though they have been deleted.
Can anyone help advising me how to change the investment type. A friend said

Recording a new loan in my checkbook ledger
This is a very simple question. I've got Microsoft Money Plus for 2008. I
have gotten a new loan and it was deposited into my checking account. The
loan is from the same bank as my checking account. How do I record that in
MS Money? Do I just put in my bank's name, or what? I know this question
is very simplistic, but what I'm concerned about is not confusing myself, at
least, with what I see in MS Money when I review the ledger there.

Balance Transfer
I am setting up my credit card account and It comes with 2 rates. I transfer
my balance with a 3.9% rate until June 2008. For Purchases, the rate is
11.24. Is there any way to set up both the balance transfer and purchases
rate??

Money 2002
I have ben reviewing the threads here. My money 2002 OEM (relase 10) stopped
downloading register transactions 12/15/07. I run on XP.
My bank says I probably need to upgrade.
1. I am not sure that will resolve my issues. Is this a known fact that
older versions of money will not support this feature (I question if it isn't
the bank)? Perhaps it is XP?
2. Assuming I upgrade, it appears my data from my .mny file will upgrade
(when I upgraded to money 2002 my transactions were imported from an earlier
version of money but i lost all categories and sub categories) including
transactions, budgets, categories, etc?
3. Will I need to go through setup to connect to my bank or wil those
settings come forward as well?

in 2003 I downloaded the trial version of Money 2004. I then proceeded to
purchase Money 2004 Deluxe through the upgrade feature of trial version.
Money 2004 Deluxe worked fine until recently when I had to reinstall after a
failure on my computer. I reinstalled from the original trial version and
had hoped to use the product key I received when I upgraded to Money 2004
Deluxe, however, I cannot find any place to insert the product key. I'm now
aware that Microsoft no longer supports Money 2004. So, does anyone have an
idea on how to activate Money 2004 Deluxe from the Money 2004

Foreign Mutual Funds
Is there a way for MS Money 2007 to automatically download non-US mutual
funds that are offered in non-US markets (such as Hong Kong, China or India)?
The mutual fund prices are quoted in non-US Dollar currencies. Anyone knows

I contact Money and it told me it is citi problem and of course citi
is saying it is not their problem either.
The weird thing is that my wife's citi account works on the same
computer and in the same money file. The only difference is that shwe
has one account, I have 6.

trying to uninstall older version of Money (Money 2003)
I was trying to install new application Money Plus and it said that an older
version of Money was on my machine and wanted to uninstall it. I said yes,
but then it said it could not find the Money.msi file and wanted me to choose
folder with that file, or install original Money 2003 disc, which I don't
have, program was preinstalled on computer.

Don't save financial info online
I have just purchased MS Money 2008 and want to set up an account so that it
pulls information for me from my bank. But I'm rather alarmed to see that if
I do so then a copy of my financial records will be kept on a Microsoft
server. Seems like a big security/identity risk to me. If I wanted to access
my financial info from someone else's computer (and I'd really have to be
dumb to do that!) then I would just go to my financial institution's web site
and log in. I really don't think MS has any legitimate reason to keep that
private/sensitive information. Seems like this is an Achilles Heel in the
software at best, and perhaps a Trojan Horse at worst.
Is there any way to set up online updates and NOT have my financial records
stored on MS's servers? I'm not objecting to using Windows Live to retain
connection information (though that's rather silly too), I'd just like to log

Upgrade from 16.0.120.621 to 16.0.120.1303?
I'm currently running Money 2007 16.0.120.621 under XP SP2. I've seen posts
that reference a later version 16.0.120.1303.
How can I get the update?
I'm having all sorts of issues with Money closing if I do the simplest
things like the menu command Help->Privacy Statement. I'm hoping an update
will resolve it.

Downloaded Transactions marked "Reconciled"
When I download transactions from one bank (checking) all transactions
are marked with the "R".
However, transactions when downloaded from another bank (credit card)
all transactions are marked with an "E".
Nothing is imported, like with a QIF or anything. All these
transactions enter the register via the online banking setup within
MSMoney.
I have not balanced for a long time. Its a new year and its time to
pick that habit back up. However, I just do not recall all downloaded
transactions having the reconciled flag automatically applied to them
before. Did I do something to cause this?
