    - How to add new categories I just purchased Money Essentials. I just downloaded my recent transactions from my checking account. I am putting all transactions into the proper category but I am finding that I want to create my own specific categories. I cannot figure out how to do it. It doesn't seem like Money is letting me do this. Also when I click in the transaction it doesn't give me the split transaction option like I was using in the trial version.     - Manually enter & clear checks I want to use this software like you would Quickbooks - input your checks and deposits one by one, clear them as they clear, and then have a report of where my money is going. (rent, groceries, etc...) The problem is, I don't want to pay my bank $10 or whatever a month to synchronize with MS Money when I can input the information myself.     - Epay processing date I am using Money 2006 Deluxe. I have been using MS Money for over 10 years, so I know my way around pretty well. For the past six months or so, my Epay transactions have been setting the date to the processing date rather than the payment date in my register. I do NOT have the check box checked that says "Enter electronic payments in the register with the processing date". My bank does not debit my account until the check clears, so this really messes up my organization. Any idea why it is doing this? Will upgrading to 2007 version fix it? Thanks for your help.     - Perplexing question - not quite archive not quite starting over... I have been using Money in one form or another from 2000. I now am running 2006. I have a slightly different question from the standard Archive question... I dont want to keep the transactions from prior years. Say every transaction before 1/1/2006 I would like to delete. And then I would like to delete all the empty and ancient accounts that have been canceld or, as in the asset case like a House, sold. I am trying to not loose all the account information. I do not want to have to reenter all the addresses, passwords, and the good transaction data from 2006 forward. I have looked hard to find anything to address this circumstance and cannot. I would deeply appreciate any help w/ this... I am having 'anxiety attacks' that a standard answer of "you cant get there from here" is going to surface! Related is how to actaully remove an account. For example I have a couple of American Express accounts. One of them I closed some time ago. It is ancient history.     - Repair a Money data file? MS Money or MSN Money? I've posted here before about trouble accessing one bank in my MS Money setup. I'm using MS Money 07 Deluxe on a WinXP Pro SP2 computer. It's now been well over a month since I've been able to download transactions from this bank. Last week, I had an online chat with a MS support rep. Unfortunately, I had to cut the session short, after over an hour, because I had a meeting I had to attend. And with one thing and another, I'd rather not go through the chat again and paying for phone support is a very last option. Anyway, to sum up: I tried accessing the data via the MSN Money site and it, too, was unable to download transactions from the bank. So he had me create a second Windows LiveID and setup my banking info through the new one... and it worked. But it was empty of all of my historical data. And then when I used the new login with MS Money, I got "duplicate account" warnings, and offers to merge the dupes. When the accounts were merged, I again lost the ability to use the online services. So in the meantime, I've deleted the new database and restored from the most then-recent backup, so I am essentially back to square one.     - Password Change Hi, I am using Money 2007 Deluxe and want change my password at a financial institution. The change at the bank works fine, but Money keeps reverting to old password. Hee's is how I try to make change. From the account register, I go to "Change account settings" then "Change bank or brokerage passwords" then "Edit user ID or password" I then type, not copy and paste, my new password and "Save Changes" I then try to update online and am told password and or user id, incorrect. When I go back to "Edit user ID or password" my old password is there. I can tell as my old password is 3 *'s shorter. I can go directly to the bank and sign in with my new password, no problem.     - How can I add transaction while using the online version of money Ok... when I first bought Money several years ago and installed it on my home computer, I could then login while at work via the passport and see the information that I had entered on my home computer. If I purchased something during the day I could go online and add the transaction which was great way to know at any given moment what my TRUE balance was in my account. Now when I check my Money account online from work I can see all the information I've entered at home but now there is no way to add a new transaction other then from my home computer where I have Money installed. The only thing that has an edit feature is transactions I've entered at home that have not yet been downloaded from my bank. If any one knows how this can be done please let me know.     - error when trying to restore Money 01 backup after hard drive crash I recently had to replace my hard drive. I installed Money (04 Deluxe) and tried to restore my Money back up that was on an external hard drive. I got this error: "Please insert next backup disk. (The disk containing file "".)" Probably the most useless error message ever since a) i'm pretty sure this is the entire backup and b) it doesn't tell me what file it's talking about. I realized that my previous Money file might have been from Money 2001 Standard so I uninstalled Money 04, installed Money 01, and tried to restore the file again. Same error message. Any ideas?     - bills do not disappear when transaction is downloaded from bank ac I use money 2007 premium and am having a problem. I don't recall if the problem began after upgrading to 2007 or not. First I will describe the way it used to work and then describe the problem. I use online banking to pay my bills. My invoices are sent to my online bank and they are automatically processed for payment. Thus the transactions usually download into money about 10 to 14 days before the payment is acutally made. All these bills are also in my "Bills" section in money. When these transactions are downloaded into money, it will remove the bill out of the bills section in money. Usually when it is downloaded the bill is downloaded without a category. I then enter the category and I get a question from money asking me if it is the bill in my "bills" section of money. I select yes and it removes that months payment for the bill in the bills section. For some reason it no longer asks me if the downloaded bill is the bill in teh bills section. Thus my bills section is messed up and my cash flow forecast will have bills duplicated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully this is clear.     - Money won't connect to my bank since October 2006 I bought MS Money back in Sept 2006. Just one money later it stopped connecting to my bank b/c of some security changes Key Bank put through. Since then, Money has basically been a glorified check writing program for my small biz. I download the OFX files (or whatever they're called) from my bank's website and I back-date it to when I opened my biz account. Even so, Money ALWAYS shows my balance as being the red somehow, even when my bank has something very different to say. I'm no accountant and my problem-solving patience isn't infinite so Money's only use to me now 1) save time writing checks and 2) produce electronic reports of the contractors I pay when I have to create 1099-misc forms at tax time. It's very frustrating that 9 months on Key Bank and Microsoft haven't worked out their differences. Just thought I'd finally chime in after all this time.     - Exchange rate per transaction Hello, I'm not shure if it's possible or nut (but I haven't found a way for this). I have many accounts in swiss francs (CHF) and one in Euro (EUR). When I enter transactions in the euro-account all is ok. But I think that in the reports, the value of the transactions i converted to CHF with the exchange rate set in the options. But that's not 100% correct because the exchange rate changes every day. Is it somehow possible to set the exchange rate per transaction? I use Money 2005. Is it possible in a newer version?     - Sharing Money Files There is a great deal of information in the help about sharing money files with a spouse or a partner, but it appears that "sharing" may be an overstatement. I want to be able to have both parties enter data and synchronize back and forth using Passport Network credentials. Is that possible? A post from Jan 2006 says "Nope."     - Add New Broker Name and Move existing accounts into new Broker MS Money 2007: In a single download MS Money downloaded accounts that contained funds for one Roth IRA and 2 529 college savings plans. All three accounts downloaded under one broker name so that I cannot see the indivual total sums of the three accounts. Each plan contains 8-10 different funds. I want to move all the Roth accounts under a single broker name such as "American Funds Roth". One of the College savings plans under another broker name such as American Funds College 529 Victoria, and the other college savings plan under a third broker name such as American College savings Funds Nicholas. Curently the accounts for all three plans (~30 accounts)are under one broker name "American Funds #3" and I can't see the totals for the indivual funds.     - Connecting with financial institution Is there a way to add a financial institution to the list of those to which Money 2007 can connect for account updates? I have a WAMU credit card account, the website for which is WAMUCards.com. There are two WAMU's listed in Money, Washington Mutual Bank and Washington Mutual Commercial Banking -- but neither of those two is the right one for the credit card business. The WAMUCards site is able to send update data to Money -- but I want to set up the process by which I can request an update through Money.     - Bills disappear on entry to Money I am using Microsoft Money Deluxe 2006. I have recently suspected that bills are disappearing from my Bills & Deposit registry. I had thought it could be a user error. Today, I saw it with my own eyes. I had changed a bill right before I exited Money, it was in the wrong year and the amount was incorrect. Because I wanted to pay the bill soon, I changed the date to the current date. Within minutes after exiting Money, I went back into it for another reason. When I went into Money I saw the Bills & Deposits screen with the bill listed. (Bills & Deposits is my default page upon going into Money.) Within a second the bill disappear. I restored my backup. I suspected that I may have had autopayment on the bill checked by mistake but it wasn't. Has anyone else experienced problems like this and know of causes? I have seen some reference on this forum to bills disappearing but no causes or preventative measures. Bills disappearing is a serious matter to me. I don't want to not pay a creditor. I don't want to post this to usenet because somebody might try to tie that in to my posts in some way (someone already has, in uk.misc). First of all, I'd like to ask you to believe that my phone line in my apartment is bugged, and has been for many months. I have moved a couple of times this year, but "they" have faithfully been on my trail. Anyway, let's suppose my phone line is bugged. Now, when I talk to my internet service provider, it's over a SLIP (now PPP) connection. So if you wanted to bug what was said, either you'd listen in over the line and have to decode the transmission, or you could go to the service provider (more difficult) and ask them to decode a particular user's connection. OK, so now they're listening to everything I do over my SLIP/PPP connection. A couple of months ago I was messing around with faking articles through nntp servers and through anonymous remailers. I chose a nice inconspicuous newsgroup for my little tests, something no-one would ever notice. Guess which newsgroup I chose??? The goldfish article and the Koi went through, but the piranha didn';t appear. by now you probably think this is too silly for words. But if you look in the papers a few eeks ago you will find John Major, Tonny Blair and Paddy Ashdown sharing a "private joke" about Major's sunburnt goldfish. We haven't had anything about Koi yet (they must be too dull ). Now, sent by someone who clearly knew what they were doing (they chose an Italian backbone site for their launch point) we have many thousands of messages to people all over the globe. All about piranha, and with the punchline "that gives you something to think about, doesn't it?" The way it works is that they're trying to kill two birds with one stone again. I'll just enumerate one or two things that I can still remember. Sometime around August/Sept 1992 I was living in a house in Oxford, and coming out of the house was physically attacked by someone - not punched, just grabbed by the coat, with some verbals thrown in for good measure. That was something the people at work shouldn't have known about... but soon after a couple of people were talking right in front of me about, "yeah, I heard he was attacked". Again, one I went for a walk in some woods outside Oxford. The next day, at work, someone said "you know he went to the forest yesterday". I don't want to put details on usenet of what happened because to do so would be to risk it happening again. If you put ideas in peoples' heads then you can find them reflecting back at you, and I don't want that. Also I can't remember that much from three years ago. It smells very much of the security services, because there is no other organization (to my knowledge) which does the things I've seen these people do. Remember, they have deliberately chosen the softest of soft targets to victimize. They purposely chose a mentally ill person who they thought would be likely to kill himself anyway, so that they could get away with murder. And in all likelihood it will have started as a personal vendetta by someone. Who could that be? I don't know, but I can give you some clues. The first possibility (deep breath) is that someone from my college set me up. Six years ago I graduated from university in the UK, during the last year there I was steadily getting more and more ill. I know that I was talking in my sleep; although I don't know what I was saying, it got me a reputation, and if someone from my college talked afterwards to the "wrong" people then that could be the reason for all that has followed. I think that's the strongest contender for source. Directly beneath my room lived another bloke who frequently had his friends round late at night, after the time that I went to sleep. So they could have heard what I was saying in my sleep, and that could have got me the reputation for "talking to myself". What I don't know is why that should have rebounded a year after I left. You'd think it would have happened sooner; it's a bit odd to wait for a year and then start abuse. The reason I think it might be the former is that I got quite a lot of abuse along the lines of "sound-alike" or "double-entendre" at work, in particularly from Steve. So "double" inevitably came to mean split-personality, "two people in one"; "back" inevitably came to mean "backside", "come" inevitably meant you-know- what, "split" (well, we'd better split now) again you can guess, "bent" (of a similar bent), the list goes on forever. These aren't "nice" double- entendres intended for comedy, they're nasty words to humiliate and cause pain. If I could turn the clock back three years then I would sue my former employers for harassment and I would almost certainly win. I had to take pills after a year of Oxford, so they wouldn't be able to lie their way out of it. I just downloaded Essentials 2007. Every time I launch the software I get an
error box that says "To continue operating successfully, Money requires a
software update. Click OK to close Money and begin the update now". They
give you two options to click OK or Cancel. When I click OK the same error
message appears and over and over. If I click cancel the error message goes
away. What is this all about and how can I get it to stop? I just downloaded
the 2007 version.

Take this as your computer trying to protect you from a useless product.
MEss will get you no more (and probably less) than you can get on your
bank's own website for free.

Ditch MEss and get your money back. Then download the trial version of
Money Deluxe. If you like it, don't pay for it on line. Instead get the CD
from a store or from Amazon, so you will be able to reinstall it if
necessary.
