    - Processing imported QIF w/MS Money 2004 Deluxe I download a QIF format statement for a checking account and import it into MS$2004. All appears to go OK. When I go to the page to process the downloaded statement MS$2004 abruptly aborts with "An error has been encountered" message. I have run standard file repair on the file prior to import and no problems are found according to the log file. After the aborted attempt, doing a file repair will indicate that a problem was found with the internet options and was corrected. Attempting to use the repaired file I can not access the transactions in the file that the import was for. I have to restore backup file. I have cleared the cache and reset maximum size to 50MB. I can import the QIF that fails into a new account and all looks OK. So far it is isolated to one account and one financial institution. Other QIFs from other financial institutions import and process as expected. Other than clicking on the "Send error report to MS" option are there any know fixes or suggestions to this problem?     - Unmatched transfer transaction I have transactions that were in my recurring bills that were posted against liability (loan) accounts that do not show as credit against my bank account. I can't delete them. I also have balances in the Account List summary that do not match the individual account totals.     - Money 2000 password problem I have moved my Money 2000 file from one computer to another. (I copied it to a storage device and from there copied it to the other computer.) However, the password (which works on the original computer) will not open the file on the new computer. The dialogue box reports an incorrect password, though I'm using the correct one.     - Microsoft Money 2004 Standard - Financial Institution Removed OS: Windows XP Pro SP1a Microsoft Money Version: 2004 Money file: New (didn't bother importing 2003 file yet). Fresh clean reformat of Windows XP. Purchased Microsoft Money 2004 on Saturday and installed it onto my new install of Windows XP. Flawless. Set up bills etc in Money 2004 as well as accounts. Beautiful. Found a neat feature that I never noticed in my Microsoft Money 2003 Business and Deluxe version, which is the ability to use direct connect through my financial institution, Summit Credit Union. I set up this feature in money, logged on using my password and user id. Statement transactations were downloaded into my check register and balanced automagically. Talk about FREAKin cool. I'm impressed. Monday (yesterday) I did the Internet Update option to download all Money updates, news, and online statement information. I believe I saw a message that came back that said that my institution no longer offers this feature. I thought that was odd, but I was like, ok, it might be just a weird mistake. I then went to my account, and it pulled all the transactions. No biggie, as I will just try it again. I go to set up online services again within Money, and this time around, the listing of Financial Institutions that are listed in Money seems to mysteriously have removed Summit Credit Union. I contacted Summit Credit Union, and they have not (and don't plan on) removed this ability for Microsoft Money 2004 and older. In fact they have a relatively new PDF file on their website that explains how to use the direct connect features. I'm like, ok..well while I have your attention, let me check my system at work (i was talking to them from work this morning online) because I use Microsoft Money 2003 here. I went to financial online services, I found Summit Credit Union, and I was able to again, log on using my user name and passcode and match up my accounts and download transactions (which I didn't do because this is work, and I have work related accounts on this machine). So now Microsoft Money 2004 Standard at home has removed my institution as well as it's transactions, while my work machine with Microsoft Money 2003 can find them and lists them and connects to them just fine.     - [For Italians] Salvage utility not working on Money 2000 ITA? Sorry guys for posting a specific italian question, but as you probably know here in Italy we are stuck at localized version 2000 and apparently Microsoft no longer supports the product. Frustrating. Anyway Money 2000 does more or less what I need. Trying to add a new account I get the error message "Money could not write to your Money file. The operation could not be performed or another application finished this task before you. Please try again." (of course the italian version :-) ) I am trying to run the salvage utility with the command "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Msmoney.exe" -s <my file> but apparently Money starts without performing any repairing.     - Money 2004 trial uninstall After intalling Money 2004 trial version about 2-weeks | ago, I finally read the small print stating that data | entered in that version won't be available in Money 2003. | Foolishly (I think) I unintalled the 2004 version. Now | the 2003 version cannot locate the money files.     - a background program which will stop install of MS Money 2004 When MS Money installs a warning comes up to turn off fire walls and anti-virus programs. I hope that Microsoft monitors this board because today I discovered another program which will halt the installation: Bought Money2004 today and tried to install it and kept getting the message "Siservice.exe is preventing the installation....." I discovered that the offender was part of Spam Inspector by Giant Software. To turn off the offending program, siSpamFilterEngine.exe must be killed in the task manager **first** otherwise the server keeps coming back on.     - Downloaded transactions incorrectly merged-Money 2004 Maybe this is just an option setting, but I download transactions from my bank on a regular basis. On a regular basis some of the transactions are incorrectly merged without any option to change the transaction (as can be done when it is simply just a match). It is a little annoying since the transactions merged have nothing to do with each other than the amount of the transaction. One example was a charitable donation being incorrectly merged with an ATM transaction. Is there some option I'm not seeing or setting to prevent this from happening. Generally, I want the program to match the downloaded transactions; I just don't want it to merge them without my checking them first. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.     - Bonds in Foreign Currency I'm using Money 2004, and having a problem trying to enter bond purchases in a foreign currency. I'm doing so in a dollar based account. When I enter the bond as a new investment, I go through the process of marking it as an "other bond", and set the country appropriately. When I try to enter the price of the bond, it shows it in dollars. Online help suggests I should be able to right click on the price field and get a currency converter, but I only see the usual cut/copy/paste commands. I do, however, get a currency converter dialog if I hit F8, but it appears to think the bond is in dollars (it shows dollars to dollars, but no other currency options). I have tried this with a few different countries. Is this a bug? Any ideas on how to fix this or work around it?     - Realized gain / basis How to "not display" old info ? In my normal use of Money 2001,2004 , I do not care about "realized gain" from years ago. For Money, the basis seems to be 1. add all the buys 2. subtract all the sells the difference is loss/gain. But if I sold all of a stock/fund in 2002 and just recently bought it back, I want my basis to be: what I paid for the stock/fund that I RECENTLY bought and now hold - Period. So regardless that I dollar-cost averaged every week for 3 years into x shares of Fidelity Value Fund , if I sold it ALL and THEN later bought y shares, my cost would be the price paid for the Y shares.     - Restoring Backup File to New Program I have been using Money'98 for several years. My new machine came pre-installed with Money 2004. I am tying to "restore" my '98 backup into my 2004 program but am not sure how to proceed. (I've already crashed my new system by tyring to install the '98 program over the '04 program!) After reading the backup file, the system prompts me to "Please choose the Location where you want to restore the file". I open Microsoft Money in my Program Files and the following list presents: Calcs, Media, Money to Pocket PC, System, Works.     - Bank Reconciling Starting Balance Discrepancy Ok, here's the problem...I got a new computer and started using Money on it last month. I reconciled the bank statement and everything was fine. This month, when I go/went to reconcile, it shows a discrepancy in the starting balance. Apparently what it is showing is last month's beginning balance along with this month's beginning balance (or ending balance of last month, whichever you'd like to say). I have tried changing the account balance and that does not solve the problem...how, then, do I fix this problem so that the reconciliation can be accomplished? Any help would be appreciated.     - Balancing Check Book I am trying to balance the checkbook for the 2nd month. However, there is a discrepancy in the starting balance. What it appears to have done is kept the beginning balance from last month and the beginning balance of this month.     - Beginning balance in reports shouldn't be there I have a beginning balance in my Reimbursable Expenses accout that I cannot figure out. I report ALL dates, ALL everything and it just shows up as a beginning balance that I can't click on to get detail or find a way to report on. How might I search and find this huge amount that clearly isn't correct. It seems to me that if I report all the beginning balance must be zero. There is no detail with that amount anywhere although it is my House asset beginning balance. Could I have done some sort of weird archive thing a year or so ago and that's where it's coming from? Anyway, I want it gone! I tried to work this through with MS support a while back. We did all sorts of things that didn't work. Salvage. Deleting and recreating my house account (since that number was it's beginning balance). The following was the most telling process. I ran salvage. First time had some broken system records, second time clean. I closed all accounts. Created a new account transaction report for only the reimbursable expenses. No expenses showed, just transfers. There is still a large beginning balance. I changed the category of the report to a random one and the same thing happens. If I remove all accounts from the report I get a zero beginning balance. Slowly adding them in I find as expected that the House account is the culprit. Still, it makes no sense, nor do I know what to do next.     - unrealized gain report errors This just started in '04. I'm running Mony 99 Financial Suite v7.0. When I record the sale of a partial lot of stock, the cost column is not updating to reflect the cost accross a smaller number of shares. i.e. - I have 200 shares of xyz at a cost of $10/ea for a total lot cost of $2000. Prior to entering a partial lot sale, the unrealized gain calc is correct. When I enter a partial sale of 50 shares, the cost column remains fixed at $2000 rather than recalculating the cost basis at $1500. The unrealized gain is now calculated at current price - $13.33 ($2000/150 shares) rather than the correct number of $10 per share. I know about selecting lots to min/max gain/loss.     - Unrealized Capital Gains Reports This is a new problem. When I sell a partial lot of a given stock, and refresh the "Portfolio Value by Account or Investment" report, the cost column doesn't change to reflect the lower share count. Here is a specific example: Have 200 share of xyz at a cost of $20/share. Prior to selling a partial lot, the report gives the correct unrealized gain information with a total cost of $4,000. When I sell 50 shares, and refresh the report, the cost column stays at $4000 and recalculates the unrealized gain of the remaining 150 share as if the remaining shares were at a cost of $26.66 ($4000/150) instead of a cost of $20????     - Replicated Transactions I recently upgraded to Money 2004 Standard OEM Edition from MOney 2002 Delux & Business. Everytime I start Money 2004, iit seems to replicate transactions in several accounts. I have not been able to figure out how it picks the accounts or the transactions to replicate. Ii have to void the transactions because it will not let me delete all of them. Some transactions have been replicated 8-10 times. I can delete on of the replicants but after the first one I get a message that states the transaction cannot be entered. This is a real pain is the a##! Is anyone else having this problem?     - Reconciling Paid Invoice and Bank Statement (Small Business) To record an invoice payment I follow these steps: 1- I use the "receive payment for invoice" functionality in the A/R screen. This action results in a transaction posted in my bank account. 2- I deposit the check at the bank. 3- I wait for the bank transaction to be electronically transferred into money. My question is: how do I match the electronic transaction with the one generated by money when I received the payment? Money will not let me match the transaction manually and, if I delete it, it is downloaded again the next time.     - Importing my bank statement online Hi, I have money 2001 and want to start importing my monthly statements, which appears to be easy from my credit union web site. When I click 'import statement' after selecting an .ofx filetype, I get a box that says 'statement loaded successfully; will import into money the next time money is opened'.     - Money 2004 problems with Money 2002 File I recently had my file system get corrupted on me and have had various other problems with my comp so I bought a new Sony that came with Money 2004 Standard. My previous version of Money was 2002. I used another computer and File Scavenger and managed to recover my money file. When I opened it with Money 2004 I typed in my password and it pops up with "Money has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience." I thought that maybe it had been corrupted but I opened it in on my laptop in Money 2002 and it works fine. So I am wondering if there is some conversion I need to do.     - Assign a Tax Category to a Transfer How do I assign a tax category to a TRANSFER transaction within Money? Specifically, my paycheck is set-up as a split transaction with tax withholding properly assigned to various categories. However, my 401K contribution is actually a TRANSFER to another account and should be reflected as a reduction against my taxable salary.     - Posting Cash Transactions to my Checking Account I often give my doctors cash as my copayment or pay for my prescriptions with cash, etc. At year-end, when I itemize my tax deductions, these transactions are not included.     - Worthless Budgeting I am absolutely sick of the Money budget. I have wasted a number of family weekends trying to get it to work. They certainly did not do their homework on this one. Sure there are some cool bells and whistles but they missed the foundation of money management software BUDGETING! A few issues: 1) You can't set budget amounts for budget groups? ex. The budget group food has to subcatagories, Groceries and Dining Out. I want to set an overall budget amount fot food (which is not possible in Money Budget) but track my expenses for Dining Out and Groceries. This also applies to Vacations, Misc. and any other Budget Group that you want to set a budget amount for but could care less (for budgeting purposes) which category the money will be spent. 2) Money has categories set up under Residence for "Mortgage Payment" and under Auto for "Car Payment". This works great unless, of course, you set up your house and car loan as liability and asset accounts (as you should to manage your loans, worth, and account balances). In this case, Money auto assigns these to special categories which are auto assigned to a debt catagory in the budget. Thus you can not budget for them under residence and auto budget groups. To make it right, Microsoft should redesign the budget to work in a real world then offer an update free to download. Sorry if I seem frustrated but I have been working on this for a year to no avail. The fine folks at support did call me back with a work around (which I have not been able to make work).     - Money 2004 and Computer Slow Down Help!!! I purchased and loaded MONEY 2004 Deluxe this weekend and put it on my Windows 98SE w/512mb ram machine (Dell Pentium III) and now my whole computer runs like molasses!!! Anyone have any idea what is going on? I suspect it is a conspiracy to force people like me into a hardware upgrade. In addition, the program often "hangs" for no apparent reason. I run the machine on a home network with a router and I use Norton Antivirus, but I've shut those things down before I use the program due to the numerous warnings I've read on this and other sites.....PLEASE HELP!!! I get this "unable to encrypt the data at the required
level" message when i start money 2004. it directs me to a
link to get the security update. but i lready have 128 bit
internet explorer 6. i am running windows xp home. any
help to resolve this issue will be appreciated.
