    - Home Balance off by $750+ trillion My balances are off by over 750 Trillion (yes, trillion) on my home, account balances and budgeting/cash flow pages. However, they are correct in the register. Correct starting balances, correct ending balances. This happened after getting a new computer, changing from Win200Pro to XP. Both computers used Money 2003 Deluxe. I've uninstalled/reintalled money, restored my back-up serveral times, and this is still happening (even to my previous years archives). I ran the money update. I tried using start=>run=>msmoney -s as was suggested in a few previous posts, but that didn't do the trick, either. I'm not sure what the File=>repair money file is that I saw in a post, but I can't find that in any of the menus on my money file. Can anyone please help????     - Money 2k4 Deluxe and 401K contrib with Employer Match I am trying to set up my paychecks in Money 2004 Deluxe and a 401K account with my contributions and a a 3% empoloyer matching program. I have the following generic sample" Gross Check $2,000 401K contrib pre-tax (%) 15% ------------------------ so, $300.00 per check (every 2 weeks) will go towards the following mutual funds in the 401K: Fund A 10% $30.00 Fund B 15% $45.00 Fund C 30% $90.00 Fund D 25% $75.00 Fund E 20% $60.00 = 100% or $300.00 total pre-tax contributions How can I set-up Money to enter my paycheck and at least tie the 401K amount of either 15% of the gross amount or the percentages of each fund? I can enter the dollar amounts of the funds if necessary. I am trying to associate my checking account, payroll check and the 401K account without too manual entries.     - Money 2004 Premium crashing For last week having this problem when shutting down (was 4 months with zero problems). "Money was not able to properly intialize Online Services. If you want to use online service, please reinstall money from your original product disks." I've updated Money, IE, NAV, reinstalled twice and it keeps crashing. For the last 4 months I've used the internet with Money no problem at all. I tried a number of procedures including the file salvage (a couple of times, thinking it would eventually work...which it didnt), and then downloaded the supersalvage. That did recover the file, but when I open the file I saved it as..I now have the billion/trillion dollar balance syndrome that is referred to in the post you referred me to. Next questions/scenrio Its weird, because when you open the accounts in that file, it has all the current balances and information from my file when I last used it yesterday before all this mess started. What will happen if I save this new billion/trillion file on the one I am trying to fix? I wont do that unless you think it might be okay. My other file, which has business accounts, is all okay. This file has my personal accounts. The good news is that I parallel msmoney with quicken. And all the while I've done this people thought I was a little anal.     - Entering Savings, or Cash Account Interest How is interest earned by a money market or brokerage cash account entered, so the program can calculate interest rate and amount earned? Up to now, I use the 'Deposit" tab, and enter the amount and call it "Interest" but it seems to me that there should be a drop down menu that lists "interest or dividend" like in the investment accounts so the program can calculate earnings.     - two questions reg financial planner Hi, Is there a way to print the yearly snapshot in financial planner (Money 2004)for multiple years in a single step? Right now I do it a year by year which is not very efficient. Also, in the financial planner, if for a certain year there is some left over money (income-all expenses), then Money automatically puts 20% in the savings account. How can I change this number?     - APAY transaction problems I have a question I have a APAY transaction that happens monthly but the problem is that it started out working correctly every month it would pay then move to the next month. All of a sudden about 6 months ago it started skipping months and now it has gotten even worse. It now says the next payment is Feb 2005. Of course it will pay in May and will then change the next payment date again. It is now jumping ahead like 4 to 6 months every month.     - Direct statements for retirement account don't seem to update properly Hi, When I manually update my retirement account from Fidelity by downloading a QIF statement and importing it, it works fine. However, if I do a direct update, the individual transactions do not appear. I just see lump sum adjustments in the cash account.     - problems with duplicate entries i'm having trouble with duplicate entries in MS money 2004, i've been a money user for few years now. the problem arises in my chequing account when i notice that something that is autoposted by "bills and accounts" is coming up twice. i see the entry in my chequing register - i look below and see red for the item is over budget...when i click on the entry it is coming up with the same date and time, twice! when i click on the details...one entry is regular (i.e. with black text) and the other item has greyed out entries for the account (comes up as chequing) and the amount (comes up as the same)... i can't see to delete this duplicate entry and i'm noticing that duplicate entries are coming up each month now. help!     - incorrect duplicate entries Hello, I'm currently experiencing difficulty with duplicate entries in MS Money 2004. I've used MS Money for several years now. The problem seems to be this - i have bills entries in the Bills and Deposits area, when it's time to pay a bill i go there and enter into my cheque register the amount. For some registry entries i'm seeing that i'm overspent (!!) so when i click on the details of this overspending... i see that my single entry bill is listed TWICE! when i click on the details for each one... one of them i find all correct...and the duplicate one has the entries all greyed out. Can you help?     - Can't reconcile retirement account Hi, After postponing the reconciliation of my retirement (401K account), I can no longer run the wizard that does this (More Investing Tasks/Update retirement account). After the initial window asking for the dates, when I click on "Next", the window disappears and nothing happens. If I click on "Postpone" again, my Money file becomes corrupt and I get an error message explaining this to me. Is anyone else having this problem?     - Automatic transfer/download match up From my paycheck, I have $250 withdrawn and placed into a separate bank account. When I download my transactions for this separate bank account, it downloads the $250 transaction and doesn't realize this is the same transaction as the transfer from my main bank account. My question: is there anyway I can force Money to always match this transaction?     - doubling stock when name doesn't match pick list After downloading account statements from brokers, Money consistently (always) prompts with a dialog that says: [QUOTE] Money found the following investment in your brokerage statement: ABC (Symbol: ABC) [/QUOTE] The two choices presented are: (1)This investment is already in my investment portfolio... (2)Add this as a new investment... Choice (1) offers a pick list which always and only lists names of DELETED investments, never the names of any CURRENT investments. The actual investment (in this example, ABC) is never on the list offered. Selecting option (2) causes duplicate shares to be added to the account, e.g.: I already have 3000 shares of A Big Company, now I have 6000 shares: 3000 under the original, correct name (A Big Company) which was not available from the pick list offered, and 3000 more listed under the downloaded symbol ABC, but not associated with the correct name of the existing investment. This occurs not just for ABC, used in the example, but for many, many investments, whenever the investment name varys from the 'canned' version. This problem is especially obnoxious for me, and anyone else, who holds the same investment in more than one account, since the individual brokers inevitabley report the investment names differently. The inability to 'share' ticker symbols prevents correct pricing, in addition to the aggravation of being forced to delete the doubled shares in every account, for every investment incorrectly matched.     - Date displayed wrong I am evaluating Money 2004. My system is set for European date formats (short: dd-mmm- yy) and Money 2004 seems to enter the reverse date of the imported OFX files 20040405 (5 April 2004) as 05/04/2004. This is displayed correctly (=European)on my screen, but Money internally interprets it as 04-May-2004. The knowledge base suggests to change my short date format in the regional settings to US standard. I am not willing to do so and think that Money needs to support *any* standard Windows date setting - otherwise: what are they good for? Is there a known fix (not awkward work-around) for this bug? Anyway, it said that you send $10.00 to each of the 6 names and address stated in the article. You then place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least 300 newsgroups. (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. The main difference between this system and others is that you have a mailing list of 6 instead of 5... This means that your average gain will be app. 15 times higher!!! So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $60.00, right? Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal! Then I invested the measly $60.00.............plus postage Well GUESS WHAT!!... within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I still figured it would end soon, and didn't give it another thought. But the money just kept coming in. In my first week, I made about $20.00 to $30.00 dollars. By the end of the second week I had made a total of over $1,000.00!!!!!! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $420,000.00 and it's still coming in rapidly....... It's certainly worth $60.00, and 6 stamps, I spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works.... also, make sure you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as you need it. The process is very simple and consists of 3 easy steps: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 US$10.00 bills (or equivalent in your local currency) and place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $10.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service by this. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! Now, post your amended article to at least 300 newsgroups. (I think there is close to 24,000 groups) All you need is 300, but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! Don't know HOW to post in the newsgroups? Well do exactly the following: DIRECTIONS - HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS ------------------------------------------------ Step 1. You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and click and hold down your mouse button. While continuing to hold down the mouse button, drag your cursor to the bottom of this document and over to just after the last character, and release the mouse button. At this point the entire letter should be highlighted. Then, from the 'edit' pull down menu at the top of your screen select 'copy'. This will copy the entire letter into the computers memory. Step 2. Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the 'edit' pull down menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list. Remember to eliminate the #1 position, move everyone up a spot (re-number everyone else's positions), and add yourself in as #6. Step 3. Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different sittings, you'll always have this file to go back to. INTERNET EXPLORER USERS: Step 4. Go to newsgroups and select 'Post an Article'. Step 5. Fill in the subject. Step 6. Same as #6 above Step 7. Hit the 'Post' button. ------------------------------------------- THAT'S IT! Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 300 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 50,that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 300 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 300 with my name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $625.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 300 letters with my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 300 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per 300 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With a original investment of only $6=.00! AMAZING! And as I said 5 responses is actually VERY LOW! Average is probable 20 to 30! So lets put those figures at just 15 responses per person. Here is what you will make: at #6 $150.00 at #5 $225.00 at #4 $3,375.00 at #3 $50,625.00 at #2 $759,375.00 at #1 $11,390,625.00 When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $60.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is, do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So can you afford $60.00 and see if it really works?? I think so... People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, everyday, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will work. You just have to be honest. Make sure you print this article out RIGHT NOW, also. Try to keep a list of everyone that sends you money and always keep an eye on the newsgroups to make sure everyone is playing fairly.     - Credit Card Balance In Cash Flow Forecast Hi, I would like for money to automatically reflect paying the balance of my credit card from within my banking account cash flow forecast and my credit card cash flow forecast. For example, I have several payments and budget items which I exclusively use my credit card for. Since I pay off my credit card each month from my banking account, I would like for microsoft money to automatically show the credit card payments when it does the cash flow forecast. Likewise, if I display the cash flow forecast on my credit card, it should never display a positive balance. I want it to show all charges and payments but never to exceed zero. The only way I have been able to figure out how to do this is to create a scheduled transfer of money from my banking account to my credit card account of my typical monthly bill from within the Bills & Deposits window. The consequence of this is that a cash flow forecast of my credit card shows that it eventually reaches a ridiculously high positive balance. Any suggestions how to better model this?     - preferred stock vs. common stock I receive/buy stocks, both COMMON and PREFERRED. I want to keep track of these separately. Does anyone know how to do this?     - Syncing Pocket Money 2003 with Money 2003 Any known issues with this? I used to sync Money 2000 with PM 2000 and one day ran into a problem where it quietly wiped out half of my transactions! Since my last good backup had already been overwritten before I noticed the problem I was out of luck.     - adding items to calender I have my budget all set up with the expenses and income. I go to the calender page and do the setup bills and deposits. When I enter a bill into the calender, it automatically adds it to my expense budget and I don't want it to, because I already have that item in the budget. Example: I have $95.00 budgeted for my PPL bill (electric). I go to the calnder, put the PPL bill on the 17th of the month(when it's due). I go back to my budget and now I have PPL listed twice for $95.00. If I erase it, it takes it off my calender. Someone please help and tell me what to do. Thank you. The following window appeared and said " A transaction in the QIF file has a date that could not be resolved and therefore was not recorded into you money file. Check your regional settings in the windows control panel to make sure they match the date format of the QIF file, and then try importing the file again." What does that really mean? Please help. Money 2004, imported money 2002 file. I have 'special'
catetgories at the bottom of the list. When I try to make
an electronic payment via the 'bills and deposits' menu,
and select the category to the special - "loan- mortgage"
for example, the program errors and shuts down.

Any thoughts?
