I have downloaded my transactions from my brokerage ... while trying to
bring them all into the account I am on the screen titled Review
Investment Activity... and I appear to be stuck in a loop where two
named entries are conflicting

One is 'Pengrowth Gas Income (Canada)'
and the other is 'Pengrowth Tr Cl A Units'

Both are the same company and the same ticker -> PGH

I have tried all options available while trying to import these

- This investment is already in my ....
and
- Add this as a new investment ...

If I choose the first one and select the existing PGH entry - it asks
me Are you sure 'blah' is the same as PGH? So if I choose Yes - it then
goes to the other entry and I am at the same point - now I have to
redefine PGH to the other name - and it just loops and loops and never
gets past this point.

If I choose the second one - it then gives me the option to remove the
symbol and redefine the transactions with or without a symbol. No
matter which one I choose - it never resumes the rest of the 156
transactions I have to bring in.. actually it doesn't even appear to do
what is said it would do becuause when I click NEXT again - it goes
right back to the same PGH issue.

I can't do anything with the remainder of all of the transcations ready
to import ... it won't let me past this conflict.

HELP!!

How can either resolve this PGH issue appropriately or skip to at least
be able to import the rest of my transactions.

I am using MS Money 2004

Thanks for any help.

You will have to say that one is a new investment. Keep an extra
copy of your file first, in case you think you might do it better.

One way this occurs is when a name change occurs, some brokers do a
RemoveShares of the old name and an AddShares of the new name. Its
unfortunate.

I plan to write some more on this later if you have a problem as a
result. The problem I anticipate is that you will be downloading
data for one while your holdings are of the other. The cure will
require that the file not have both versions in the same download,
and there is a good chance that will be the case in a day or two
after you create the evil twin.

I'm having the exact same problem as the original poster. Has there been any
resolution on this yet? Thanks!

I am not sure just what that exact problem is. You have 'Pengrowth
Gas Income (Canada)' and there is also a download of 'Pengrowth Tr
Cl A Units'? Or are you dealing with different securities? Are you
sure there are not two different securities?

The case I suspect is where there is a reorg or change of name of a
company. The broker puts a RemoveShares of one, and an AddShares of
the other into an OFX download. Money does not let you say they are
the same thing since they are both referenced in the OFX file. Is
this the situation you have?

The cure is to let money create a second security with a different
name. Since that name is not going to be used long, I suggest
something like ZZZZ1. At the time of download, Money is going to
associate the downloaded position and transactions with ZZZZ1.

Then change all transactions of ZZZZ1 into transactions of the
other.

Things look OK at that point until you again download. Money insists
on matching transactions and positions to ZZZZ1 rather than the
security you want to use. That is where a file that I will post
comes into play. It will disassociate a security from Money
download, so you will be able to say that the downloaded info is for
the security you want to continue with. So if this sounds like your
situation, identify whether the security is classified as a fund or
a stock in the download.

As always when doing things like this, keep an extra copy of your
file or backup in case you do not like the result.
