    - Money 2002 What a relief to know that I am not the only one. I've been in a panic all week trying to figure out what was going wrong. It took me over an hour to go through the help options and get nowhere (they wanted the PID for my program, which involves me opening the program!!). I finally found this discussion group and feel much better. I did notice that one suggestion was to remove Money and reinstall it. I'm not terribly computer savvy.     - Cannot Start Money 2004 Deluxe Hi I just installed Money 2004 Deluxe on my Win XP PRO machine. I had some issues while installing it from CD..as I would keep getting the message 'money.cab' cannot be found. So I copied the CD to a directory on HardDisk and reinstalled it..and the installation went fine. Now everytime I doubleclick on Money 2004 icon, it always crashes and 'send error report' pops up.     - Money 2004 Date Format Displaying Incorrectly A nitnoid problem, but one that bugs me all the same. I am running Money 2004 Premium on a Windows 2000 operating system. I have my computer date regional options for date format set to: Short Date = dd-MMM-yy (e.g. 18 FEB 04) Long Date dddd, dd MMMM, yyyy (e.g. Wednesday, 18 February 2004) MY PROBLEM: Yet, in my Money 2004 version the date format shows as follows in the date columns of all account registers: Short Date = 18-2-04 (instead of 18-FEB-04) Long Date = February 18, 2004 (instead of 18 February 2004) When I change the regional options for dates to other formats, it does change it correctly in the date columns in Money. It seems to only occur when I try and use the European format of day-month-year with the "month" spelled out. (i.e. I like to see "FEB" vice the number "2") I am running the 2002 version of Money on another computer and the dates display correctly. Any assistance in pointing to the root of this problem is greatly appreciated. PS: If you are going to send me an e-mail, look at shortening the "roadrunner" part of my e-mail address.     - Wrong online fund price info: wrong ticker symbol? Guys: thought I'd pick your brains on this one: Yesterday I created a new account in my Money 2002. I called it Cuz 401K. In this account I have two mutual funds: Dreyfus Small Cap Stock Index Fund - ticker DISSX Dreyfus Midcap Index Fund - ticker PESPX I started entering "add shares" transactions as I have had this 401k since 3/2003, but had never defined it to Money (man am I lazy!). When I was about half way done, I realized I had been entering the transactions into the wrong accounts (I was putting the small cap xactions in the midcap fund and vice versa). I know, I know, I should have paid more attention to the way Money lists the funds in my account (alphabetically, not in the order I defined them)! I was extra lazy so instead of deleting all my transactions and starting all over, I simply went into the See Details view and used RENAME function to change the name of Midcap fund to "Temp". I also cleared the ticker symbol from PESPX by highlighting and hitting Delete key, then DONE button. Next I used See Details on Smallcap and RENAME function to change name to Midcap fund. I then overtyped the old ticker symbol (it was DISSX) with PESPX and hit DONE. Last step was See Details on TEMP: used RENAME to change name to SmallCap fund, and typed in the correct ticker symbol of DISSX, and hit DONE. Everything looked fine at this point (details on all transactions showed the correct fund name), so I continued to enter the rest of the year's transactions, this time into the correct funds. However, now when I look at Price History, I see the most amazing SawTooth pattern. Each Buy point on the chart is accurate price per share, but each online price point in between the buy points is incorrect. It is the price per share of the other fund (so when I do Price History on DISSX - Small Cap, I get online price for PESPX - Midcap, and vice versa)!!! Strangly my current online price for each fund is accurate, it is the price history which is wrong, but this results in the various Money Investment reports also being wrong, so I need this corrected. Obviously I need to fix this and I am feeling too lazy to delete both funds from my Cuz 401K and start all over. Is there a way I can export just these two funds from my Cuz401K account, delete the funds (which hopefully will delete the incorrect ticker symbol info which is hidden somewhere in Money) in my Money file and import the funds back in? When I look at See Details for each fund, the ticker symbol info is correct, but reading over this forum I see comments about "ghost" ticker symbols, which is probably part of what is happening to me. Does the whole Investments function work better in Money 2004? With current offers at Staples / Office Max, I can get Money '04 for free (after rebates) if I also purchase a TaxCut Deluxe for $10. I really haven't been very impressed with the Investments part of Money, which is a shame since it was better than Quicken's back when I trialed both products in '99-'00. I ended up using Money '02, but even simple things like direct rollovers of IRA's seem to not be able to be intuitively handled by Money. Is Money '04 an improvement?     - Money file types I have been using Money for years, version 2000, then 2002, now 2004. I noticed i have on my hard drive four files; .mbf - i know it is the backup file, .m10 - which i understand is the file for 2004, but i also have a .mn8 & .mny...??? are they old files that can be deleted?     - What the #$%^&* is going on with Money 2002 and when will it be fixed? Hi, we haven't been able to open Money 2002 since Sunday. From reading posts here it appears everyone is having this problem due to some upgrade by MSFT. In one past problem with running Money on this computer, MSFT "support" (sic) told me they couldn't do anything because Money came bundled with the computer and so HP (my OEM) is responsible for all support, while HP told me they couldn't do anything because they don't know anything about Money and Microsoft can't/won't tell them!!!!!! Took over an hour. So this time we are just sitting it out for a while. If anyone gets any further info such as: - How do we know when problem is fixed? Will we just be able to open Money normally again or do I have to keep checking somewhere? - If I have to keep checking somewhere, where do I check? - Why isn't there anything about this when I search this site?     - Repost:Money 2003 stops numbering loan payments Money 2003. All of a sudden, money has stopped posting a "payment number" under the "pmt num" column on both my Mortgage and Car Loans. Both are paid via transfer from my checking account through electronic bill paying. On some of them Money will let me add the number later manually but on others it says "You cannot change this transaction into an electronic payment or transfer because the date is not within an acceptable range and cannot be changed." All transfers and payments went through properly with no problems and were recorded properly except for the missing payment number. Any insights would be most welcome.     - Money stops responding while compressing backup file Until last week, Money 2003 behaved as configured: it compressed my backup file before writing it to my backup floppy drive (which is actually a zip disk). For no known reason, it has started to hang up (that is, Windows XP Task Manager reports that it is not responding) right after it displays the progress bar for compressing the backup file.     - Reports picking up deselected account transaction I'm running my Tax-related transactions report for last year. I've customized the report to exclude certain checking accounts which pertain to another member of the household. Unfortunately Money keeps reporting certain transaction from those accounts. Specifically it's picking up transactions for those excluded accounts in the Taxes: Federal Income Taxes category. I've tried everything including deleting one of the transactions in the account, making sure it no longer shows in the report and then going back and re-adding the transaction.     - Can't Clear Check In Money 2002 I have two accounts, checking and credit card. The check written to pay the credit card won't accept the mark as c entry, nor will it from the credit card account. No change to this entry can be made at all, date, amount, memo, etc. The program displays, "This transaction could not be entered." or "Money could not write to your Money file. The operation cannot be performed or another application finished this task before you." Money doesn't crash, all other functions work (so far).     - Transfers I am new to this forum and relatively new to MONEY. I have been a Quicken user for a number of years. How do I go from an entry (a deposit) in one account to the debit in the accoutn that I transferred the money from (within MONEY, not an actual transfer between institutions)? It was easy in Quicken.     - Two Questions. I run Money 2003 on XP with all current updates. The first one has probably been talked about frequently but after reviewing the current threads I only saw issues with Money 2002. But here goes: why can't I just open my money file without using Passport sign-in? I have clicked the check box saying that I don't need to use the internet and still get no where. This is just an annoying issue but I would like to not have to use passport at times. The second issue is a little different. I created a new investment and after I was finished, I noticed I used the incorrect name with the "ticker symbol" for the investment (a mutual fund). So I deleted the investement thinking I could create another investment and use the correct name and ticker. However, when I try now I get a message saying that the first investment is associated with ticker and I can't use it. This is annoying because now, I can't use automatic updates for prices on the mutual fund. How do I get around this?     - Semi-Monthly Pay Dates Is there a way to manually plug in all of my future paydates from now until whenever? My company pays twice a month (the 15th & the last day of the month). With the stipulation that if the 15th or last day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, payday will be on the preceding business day. Right now I have my wages & salary frequency set at twice a month. I wouldnt mind going through every month from now until next yr and selecting the pay days manually. I began using money in July, and I started from there. Now I decided to get the entire year in so I could do my taxes.     - How to "re-start" balancing a checking account I started to balance my checking account in Money 2004, but accidently entered an incorrect amount for the Ending Balance on the initial screen.     - Runtime error trying to open Money 2003 I get a runtime error when trying to open Money 2003. I downloaded Money 2004 and the same occurs. All other software on my system is working fine. I have done all the steps in the one fix in the MS Knowledge base article (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 305254). All to no avail. I have edited the registry, deleted the program and reloaded. Not sure what to do, but I may be a Quicken user if this doesn't get fixed.     - Money 2002 won't open As I and others posted: 2-14-04 AM Money 02 worked fine. 2-14-04 PM Money 02 won't open. Saw what looked like a DOS window flash on the screen, then can't get in. Ran virus scan. Nothing found. Tried to use repair in XP control panel / add/remove programs. Can't find MONEY.MSI. Do not have Money 02 disk as it came with 'puter. Downloaded checksku.exe from MS site. Ran it. Can't find MNYCORED.DLL, MNYUID.DLL, & MNYOB99D.DLL. OK, did a refi with QuickenLoans and got a copy of Quicken Premier 2004 with the closing package. I used Quicken for years and never had a problem. Installed Quicken 04. It can't read the Money 02 back-up disk. I need to open Money to get my data. OK, I download trial version of Money 04. Figure I will be able to read back- up and move data to Quicken. Well, not exactly. Trial version cannot export data to any Quicken version. It looks like an update download from MS screwed up Money 02. It is now Tues. 2-17-04 10 PM EST. I still do not see a fix from MS. Come on Redmond, I need to get into Money 2002 so I can get mt data and move it to Quicken. I will then uninstall Money 2002. Thanks for the offer of a trial version of Money 2004, but, as I never had a problem with any Quicken updates for the versions of it that I used, I think I wil give that one a pass.     - Money 2002 Wont Start Problem Just a shot in the dark ... I believe the update that is crashing Money 2002 is the "Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483)" This update changes what is called "MDAC" (Microsoft Data Access Components). MDAC is a set of tools that allow programs to access databases. I believe Microsoft Money stores it's data in a Microsoft Access type of database (and probably uses MDAC to get at the data.) So, I believe an update to MDAC caused Money 2002 to not open because it can't open the .mny file. I have not tried the uninstall/install fix yet.     - Cash Flow insists on weekly average I have rental income that comes once a month. For some stupid reason when I put in a budgeted $300/month income I anticipate from my roommate, the cash flow report decides that it's really $60/week. This is ridiculous.     - Money won't open Microsoft explained the problem, but I don't like the solution. I've been using Money for years. The password was linked to my Hotmail account created before MS introduced .Net Passport. I never changed it. One day I could not open the Money 2003 file. I checked my Hotmail profile to verify the password only to find MS had disabled the account for lack of activity. I guess they didn't count the 3 or 4 times I logged on through Money 2003 on a weekly basis. I reactivated the account. I wish I had stopped there. But, I improved the password to make it more secure. I thought all I had to do was enter the new password when I open Money. But, that did not work. I've tried combinations of passwords. I've changed the Hotmail password back. Nothing will work. MS technical support say all is lost. Open a new file and re-enter the six or seven years of data and start over. Had not Morcosoft deactivated my Hotmail account, I'd not be in this position. Microsoft should not have the capability of locking me out of my own files. They need to fix the link between the Money password and the Hotmail or .Net Passport password. It should have been a simple task to change my password without perminate loss of data. The only real FIX is for the people who generate the data to un-mung all of
this. That requires redesigning back room systems at financial institutions
worldwide. None of those systems was ever designed with things like Money
and transmitting this kind of information to customers in mind. And it
shows.

OK.

First set Tools->Options->OnlineServices->ReplacePayeeNames....

Then go to Accounts&Bills->Categories&Payees->Payees and consolidate
Bens1234 and Bens3344 etc to Bens. Thereafter what we are intending
to see on future downloads is Bens7755 to come in as Bens.
