    - Problems loading portfolio I've been using http://moneycentral.msn.com to keep track of my portfolio for past couple of years. Over these years, I've built up a significant amount of transaction of my investments. As usual I started my portfolio, after a gap of couple of weeks. This time, instead of my portfolio being shown, I was greeted with a pop-up saying something like "reviewing transactions". And nothing happened. After a careful review, I found that numerous files each named with "my portfolioXX.mny" where XX is a sequentially increasing number starting with 1, were placed in my "My Documents" folder. This went on till my harddisk was completely filled. Each of these files was exactly of the same length as my portfolio that was stored as a "my portfolio.mny" file. I had to terminate my Internet Explorer window to stop the program and delete all these files to recover the disk space. I tried restoring the backup from the disk (that I had saved before) with the same results. I tried logging in via a different passport account but it won't let me access the portfolio since it was created using the original account.     - Money 2003 & Pocket PC I use Money 2003 and want to install the application to my Pocket PC device. I am running Pocket PC 2003 on the handheld and I read I have to install Pocket PC Money 2004. When I install the Pocket PC application it says that Money is not on my Desktop PC, but it is.     - Q about transfers, managing online accts, marking bills paid, budg I have several questions related to managing my accounts in Money 2004: 1. Downloaded Statements and Transfers - I download my statements from my credit card company and bank, but wish to mark my credit card payment from the bank statement as a transfer to the cc account. I want to do this so that the payment amount isn't considered an expense in one acct, and income in the other. However, when I do this, I end up with either a duplicate payment in one of the accounts (the opposite one from where I initiate the transfer). Is there a better way to do this, or some way to make Money more aware of how my accounts are managed so that this transfer happens automatically? (Note that my bank is BofA and they don't seem to offer direct download of statements. Maybe this is part of the problem.) 2. What is the difference between a checking account entry that's of type Withdraw with Category: Transfer to <cc acct>, one of type Withdraw with Category: Credit Card Payment: <cc acct>, and one of type Transfer with To: <cc acct>? 3. Why does the cash flow graph always go down, down, down for credit card accounts? I pay them off each month, bu M2004 doesn't seem to factor the payments into them as balancing them out. Perhaps this is related to my use of transfers between accounts. What's the right way to do this? 4. My FirstUSA and BankOne Visa cards have both become part of Chase over time. I would like to change the Financial Institution associated with them, so that all these accounts are downloaded from the same place. If I use the Online Services Manager to modify my access to Chase, I can see all my accounts listed, but in the field labeled "This downloaded account matches:" M2004 only shows me a subset of my accounts listed there. The accounts not listed are associated with the old online service name. Same thing in reverse for the other service providers. Is there any way to break or change the online service provider associated with an account? 5. The Bills & Deposits list is constantly showing me items that are past due, and I believe this is because the downloaded transactions are constantly showing up with different names. How can I match up the past due items with the actual transactions that they belong to? 6. Annoyances with the Budget - My paychecks don't always fall on the same days each month, and when viewing the budget for the Last Month, sometimes they won't be attributed to the proper month. Consequently I'll get a month grossly under budget followed by a month over budget. How can I make M2004 more tolerant of these discrepancies? I would really rather see my budget with respect to moving averages rather than discrete values. Perhaps some of these are addressed in M2006. Please let me know if that is the case.     - Money 2006 - "Debt" catergory within Budget summary is incorrect Okay, I have been going 'round and 'round with this problem. In creating a budget (with a Debt Plan in place) I cannot seem to get the Budget Summary to provide the correct balance. Within the Summary there is Income, Expenses & Special. Under Special there is a Debt catergory and other acct transfers. The Debt amount is way off! This causes my expenses to be $1000s off, creating a never-ending negative cash flow! How do I get the Debt balance to show up correctly? I have even reset the Debt Planner completely. Also, I cannot seem to easily change my Debt catergories as they are loan accts set up through auto-calulations. Nothing seems to work. Please help. Thanks in advance.     - Future payments I have a bill that is billed in 6 month intervals, and I pay on it monthly. The monthly cost is different so I enter all 6 months as scheduled payments in my online banking web site. Money sees these as future payments when I hook to the bank and download my activity. As such it affects the final balance of my acct.     - Transaactions appear wrong-way round I am using money '05 when i download the statements in quicken format from my bank to import into money the transactions appear the wrong way round.. for example say on the 1st of August I deposit $30 into my account, then i withdraw that from an ATM or EFTPOS later that day in money it will show the withdrawal before the deposit.. so on my "lower-funded" accounts the amount will go into the negative because all the transactions are backwards.. is there anything I can do to correct it automatically? or do I need to talk to the bank?     - How to delete a bill/epay (trick) (Money 2006) Maybe this will help someone... Issue: I could not delete or edit a bill that was setup as an e-payment. While no payments where actually being made/scheduled, the bill did show up in my cash flow each month. Trick: To delete the bill, I "skipped this occurence" and then selected "skip on the earliest unrecorded occurence...". This moved the next bill payment to a month later.     - Reimport data from a Money archive I recently needed to "undo" an archive process and found that Microsoft made no prevision for "going back" with the archive process. (Its because Money archives transactions that have not been reconciled that I needed to go back). Here is what I ended up doing: 1. In the archive money file, choose to export your account (only one at a time per .qif file). You can only export to a .qif file. 2. Since the archive file actually contains all of the transactions entered up to the point of archiving, you will more than likely will have duplicate entries if you decide to "restore" the full .qif file, from a recent archive. Because of this you need to edit the .qif file with a editor of your choice. You need to remove the entries that will be duplicated. In my case I archived on a year boundary (2004 and older) so I just deleted any entry (in the .qif file) with a 2005 date. 3. Once the .qif file is the way you want, open your money file, select File | Import | Recover Accounts..., select the .qif file you just edited, back up your money file (Money prompts you to do so) before continuing, select the account and press Ok. Money takes a few seconds to minutes to respond to you after pressing Ok. Its just re-importing all that data. Some times editing a .qif file can be daunting, I threw together a quick VB script that __allowed me__ to remove just the 2005 year data (to prevent importing duplicate entries and subsequently from having to delete them out of Money). Below is this script. I use a regular expression to search for the data with a date of 2005. A sample pattern looks like "D6/6'2005" (without quotes). The variable data is the month and day, which can both be 1 to 2 numbers. This variation makes it difficult to substring and perform comparison. Also, you do not necessarily want to exclude all data that only contains the characters 2005, so searching just for that value is problematic. If the regular expression is not your style you can replace it with Instr() function. This script reads the exported .qif file and writes out a new "edited" version. You will need to change the path names and file names of the .qif file strings to suit your system. The script file name needs to end as .VBS. If you have a virus tool, like Norton Anti-virus, it more than likely will attempt to block the script. You will have to figure out what to do if that happens.     - Money 2006 and Money for PPC I recently purchased Money 2006 Deluxe, with the expectation that I would be able to use Money for PPC (pocket PC) with my HP 4705. Keeping it synchronized between the two I would be able to take my information with me on the road and update where ever I may be. I am unable to do so as Money for PPC does NOT see money 2006 on my desktop no matter how many times I remove and reinstall either program. When it comes to the portion where it installs Money for PPC it simply says that I do not appear to have money installed on my desktop and the synchronization function will not be installed.     - Had a problem, dont know where to redownload money I was using a spyware removal program and it caused my internet connection to stop working, so I reverted back to a saved date or something and it worked, but now Microsoft Money is gone. I paid for the standard version, and when I click the order button and login it says there is an error that I already have it. Now my budget shows double the amount of the categories in the bill because it still shows the monthly bill as well as the new "only once" bill.     - Former Quicken user can't balance account I switched from Quicken to Money 2005 about six months ago, and I'm still pretty new at this. For the first time, I tried to balance my account today, starting with a bank statement from last January. I entered the statement date, starting and ending balances. Everything works fine, except I'm not sure I understand why Money complains about a large difference between my statement and the register. The balance in the register on the starting date of the statement roughly equals the starting balance of the statement. Same thing near the ending date -- the register and statement are pretty much in agreement. So why does Money complain? I'm guessing it complains because I've cleared only one month's worth of transactions -- I haven't got to the next 6 statements yet. Do I have that right? But if that's the case, can't it just relax while I get to those statements? I wouldn't mind its complaining, but it refuses to let me finish with this statement until I get the balances in agreement. Is there any way to work with just one statement at a time, or do I have to do all 7 months' worth of statements in one reconciliation step? Thanks for any help. Regards.     - OFX Files for Money 2005 Won't import correctly I have one bank whose OFX file will not import correctly into Money 2005. Can someone help by providing either an explanation or example of what should be in an OFX file (I have run OFX Analyzer provided by MS and it seems that the file is ok). Are "communications" important when importing a file from your own computer (I am speaking here of RS and RQ files, the response and request files). If so - how can I save and analyze these files? The bank provider is actually Credit Agricole - a French bank.     - Money 2003 Deluxe - Syncronization troubleshoot I've been using MS Money 2003 Deluxe on my desktop (I haven't used its online banking or billpay features) and recently purchased a laptap. I installed the same money program on my laptop for use on the road and it works like a champ except for one irritating issue. When I input account transaction data (like a purchase, for instance) and then syncronize in either direction (laptop input - view later on desktop, or desktop input - view later on laptop) everything carries over perfectly except for the transaction category. After syncronization, the category is always blank when later viewed on the computer that I did NOT use to input the transaction. Microsoft tech support had me reconcile accounts, use the salvage tool to repair the database (no errors found to database), and reset the system time/date on both computers.     - Payment Method in Money 2006 I just upgraded to Money 2006 from 2005. When I create a new Bill, in the required field 'Payment Method' it only has 'Write Check' as an option. I haven't been using Money for very long, and can't figure this one out: I have been downloading my checking acct activity in QIF format, and Money recognizes the file, then imports it into my Account Register. This seems to be going OK, but then, when a check payment is downloaded, I want to edit the specifics of it, such as, entering the name of the Payee, or adding a different memo, whatever. Then, much to my frustration, Money will also change the Payees on other, random checks to match the one I changed! Really! I just don't get it. The amounts, dates, memos, categories can all be different, but money will change the Payee, sometimes on checks written months before...makes accurate record keeping extra fun...Please, I'm terrribly challenged by financial stuff in the first place - I'm beginning to wonder if Money's decided to have it's own fun with me..Any suggestions most greatly appreciated. Money is not and never has been backwards compatible. However when you
upgraded to M2005 it made a copy of your file as .m14. Find this, rename the
M2005 .mny as something else, rename the .m14 as .mny and reinput all the
transactions since you did the conversion.
