Canadians: Avoid MS Money 2004!! It's crap!
I just wasted $50 on MS Money 2004 Canadian version. It has absolutely no
support for RRSPs, yet it claims to be customized for Canadians.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! I have attempted to get a refund from Future
Shop but they won't take it back because the CD has been opened. This is
selling merchandise under false pretenses. If a financial application is
supposed to be "Canadianized" and yet does not support or recognize a basic
RRSP, it's sub-standard.
A few years ago I had Quicken's Canadian version and had no problem with it.
I'm going back to it. I'm totally disgusted with MS's so-called Canadian
version.

From Quicken to Money, need some insight
I am a new Money 2004 user after using Quicken for 10
years.
I have noticed the monthly bills I have assigned dollar
amounts to show up in the Budget planner. Underneath these
routine bills, another budget entry is there
entitled "other expenses for . . . ."
If I leave the "other expenses for {whatever monthly bill
I have setup} blank, it shows up during the review of the
budget with no amount budgeted for that catergory. Even
though I have a dollar amount setup for the monthly bill.
However, if I enter the same dollar amount as the monthly
bill, it than shows a subtotal double the amount I am
really having to pay. And it effects my bottom line as far
as realistic total expenses.
Also is there a way to delete more than one Payee at a
time? With the hundreds I have, I wanted to wipe most of
them out.

Best Buy credit card & Debt Reduction Planner
How do I get my Household Bank / Best Buy credit card information added to
my debt reduction planner? If I made a major purchase on their zero interest
financing for 18 months plan, and they only want a very low minimum payment
each month until then, then I need to somehow indicate that the remainding
balance no matter how high it is, absolutely must be paid by the 18th month.
Otherwise, they will go and add on a lot of interest for all of the previous
18 months.
When I indicate to Microsoft Money that an intro rate is in effect of 0.0%
until May of 2005, then the only option it gives me for what shall happen at
the end of this is a new fixed interest rate for from there on out. Is there
no way to indicate that on that date if a balance remains then it will
back-date the interest for 18 months worth?
I tried just feeding it some false data to trick it into thinking that it
would be more important to pay that card off by the 18th month than some of
the other ones. For example, I tried telling MS Money that the fixed rate
after the 18th month is 100%. Even at 100% interest Microsoft Money is
suggesting that I let the balance slide for a couple of months beyond the
18th month before it wants me to pay it off completely.

Income/Expenses will not transfer to tax items
I have identified all taxable categories and entered the
form and line item that they relate to. Yet none of the
data is transfering as "taxable items even when I identify

Looking in the operating account which receives payment for all paid
invoices, I look back on an old deposit and the category says "payment for
invoice." I need to find out which invoice it was payment for. How do you

setting up an escrow account in the mortgage setup
My mortgage, as do most, has an escrow payment each month that is
included in the payment of principal and interest. I have always
following bookkeeping procedure and set this up as an account (not
expense category). The money is paid into the account and when taxes,
insurance etc is due it is disbursed.
In setting up my Home Mortgage I can find no way to do this in Money.
The only thing it provides for is setting up a Category and this is
not the proper way to handle it. There is no other choice since the
drop down list to assign this portion of the payment is only the
Categories with no Accounts to chose from. Any help much appreciated.
I tried to submit this question by Email to Microsoft Help but could
find no address for it anywhere. Does anyone have it? My
understanding is that I am entitled to this with the DeLuxe edition.
I didn't try by phone since it is a Sunday.

Money '02 Debt Reduction Planner
When I use the Money '02 Debt Reduction Planner, it
automatically indicates a huge payment for the first month
that I have it set up, as opposed to the monthly payments
that I indicate. Can someone explain why this happens and

Last year I signed up for the trial version of Money

Equity in Options not appearing in reports???
Sorry, this may be a simple issue but I'm new to Money.
I can't figure out why my vested stock option amounts
aren't being included in any of Money's reports. The
accounts are there in my portfolio, but when I print
portfolio value reports they are not included. I've

In Quicken I backed up to a CD. I am having trouble accessing the disk
in Money. Can I only back up to floppies or is this just a problem of

un-edit-able entry on investment acount???
MSM2003 on win2K sp4
I had a CD that I closed out (redeem CD) that I put as an entry into the
program. The entry before and after I can edit, but clikcing on this
single entry produces no reaction whatsoever. Why should an antry not
allow me to ope it up for enditing? How do I fix this? starting with -

downloaded transactions dates are changing back to 2003
Here is an example: I made a payment to my credit card account on 01/02/04.
The payment posted and Money *correctly* downloaded the transaction, with
the proper date, and matched it to the existing transaction in the register.
All is good so far. Today, I go to update from online statements and it
downloads the same transaction again, but with a 01/02/03 date?!?!? And
this isn't the first time this has happened. I checked my CC account online
and the transaction is correctly listed with the CC company.... any

week. The amount deducted doesn't hit my mortage but once

Can't Update Fidelity Online Services and Accounts
I just upgraded Money 99 with Money 2004 Deluxe, in part because it stopped
updating my Fidelity accounts some months ago. I was told then MS no longer
supported Money 99 and I should upgrade.
Anyway, with the new Money 2004 install, Online Services Manager indicates
Fidelity Investments needs to be updated. After going through the motions
of updating, the system indicates update for OFX02051 was successful and
directs me to read a message from OFX02051 it. That message starts with one
of those nerve jarring Windows "you made a mistake" sounds and says
"C:\microsoft money\system\bds\USAFidelity Distributors
Corporation\Info.htm" cannot be opened. Online Services Manager still shows
Fidelity needs to be updates. Attempts to update my Fidelity accounts fail
even though accounts with another brokerage are updated.
Any suggestions on how to fix?

Don't want retirement under investment account category
Hi all,
I've been trying to add my retirement account in M04. This
account is a government plan based on percentage of
salary, plus interest. I have no control over it, so I
don't want it in the Investment Account section my my
Accounts, as it throws off my portfolio. How can I move
this account out of that category and what would be the
best way to do this?

Have been using business 2k for several years; lots of "closeouts" available
on business 2003. I try to upgrade every few years; any real advantage to
the 2004 business version over the 2003? Also skeptical of bugs in newest

Money cannot creare a temporary file in 'C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Local Settings\Temp'
Hi,
I just started to get this kind of error message when I make bakups with my
Money 2003 Deluxe:
"Money cannot creare a temporary file in 'C:\Documents and
Settings\[USER]\Local Settings\Temp'".
I checked the folder mentioned and my WinXP user account has the privilges
on that folder (as it is supposed to have).
How I can solve it?

Account discrepancy
One of my credit card accounts in Money 2004 has developed a multiple
personality disorder.
The balance displayed on the account register is $20.31. However, the Debt
Reduction Planner shows that the account has an $821 balance; i.e., an $800
discrepancy, with rounding.
I just received the most recent statement for the account. When I go to the
Balance Account wizard, the 'total amount owed last month' (i.e., the
opening balance) is $800 higher than it should be--and $800 higher than the
'total amount owed this month' (i.e., the closing balance).
Although I can enter an $800 adjustment, this shouldn't be needed; the
account's opening balance (from Spring 2003) is zero and there aren't that
many transactions. I balanced fine with the last statement. And as of the
closing date of the last statement, the balance is fine. It's a complete
mystery.
What would cause this? IMO, there is some kind of corruption with this
account, at least.

Unable to re-install Money Deluxe 2004
I recently had to reformat my hard drive. My version of
Money 2004 was a downloaded trial which I later purchased.
After re-installing MM2004 I could not access the program
because it "appeared" that the trial period had expired. I
checked the email that was sent after the purchase and it
only provided an Activation Code. I called Microsoft who
after an hour admitted defeat and nformed me that the
would send me a "real" installable version CD with a
product key. Does anyone know of another way around this

I have Money 2003 and when I download my bank
transactions they import but when I try to review the
statement the screen goes to the account register but
nothing appears. I have deleted my temp internet files

Strange Happenings
I just upgraded to windows xp and reinstalled Money 2000. Now, whenever I
open money, I get a message under header msmoney.exe : "There is no disk in
the drive. Please insert a disk in drive e". (e is my dvd/cd drive). I
simply click on cancel and the program continues on. The warning, and my
having to clear it, occurs for every page change in money. This problem
does not occur if there is a disk in the drive and it seems any old disk
will do.

401k deposits
I have three mutual funds that comprise my retirement
portfolio. Each fund gets an automatic deposit every two
weeks. I can't figure out how to set my funds up for
recurring deposits. I can do it under "contributions" for
the retirement portfolio as a whole, but I can't add a
specific dollar amount every two weeks to each fund. Can
any help.

Tracking mortgage escrow accout
Has anyone setup an account to track the impound/escrow
account used to pay taxes, insurance in Money. I can
create the account, but I am unable to change the
mortgage payment to transfer money into this account
rather than just show an expense for insurance and taxes.

transferring money 99 files to money 2001
Hello,
I just bought a new computer with XP and Money 2001.
Currently, all of my financial information is in my Money
99 files on my old computer.
I saved my money 99 files to a cd and tried to open them
in my new money 2001, and I received this message:
"Money cannot locate 'E:Msmoney' or cannot open it
possibly because it is a read-only file or your disk
drive is write protected. If you have chosen the correct
file and it cannot be accessed, you will need to open
your most recent backup file."
What does this mean? All that I want to do is transfer
all of my financial information from my old computer with
Money 99 to my new computer with XP and Money 2001. How
do I do this?

Bug with Money 2004 and Balance Pop-up
I have had a problem a couple of times when I try to
balance an account. I enter the Ending Balance and
Interest and the next button will not work. I cancel try
again, same thing. It is a hit and miss thing. Sometimes
closing money will work or a reboot will work. Has this
been reported or is there a work-around?
I upgraded from 2002 and it seems like there is a lot of
little bugs like this every where. The Refresh after
printing checks it a little heavy on the resource and
flickers quite a bit.

MS Money 2000 and 2004 download formats question
Please help. I just started using Money 2000, and found
that the "Memo" and "Payee" information is entered into
the wrong fields. I saw the free trial offer of Money 2004
and thought I'd try it and see if the newer version did it
correctly, but it didn't. I really like the products, but

Error - You have no transactions for the item you selected
When generating reports it shows for some categories a $ amount but when
clicking on it to see the transaction it can't find any. I already ran the
salvage program to fix any error in the file but it's still happening. Any

I "lost" my desktop with Money and data on it.
I have my Money data back up on a 3.5 disk too.

new transactions match on old, cleared transactions
Is there any way to stop the attempted match of new
downloaded bank transaction against old, cleared
transactions? This happens constantly and makes no sense -
if a transaction is marked as 'C', it shouldn't be matched
against a new transaction. I don't want to have to
manually 'unmatch' each of these, but I also don't want to
turn off matching altogether since I do want new
transactions to match against un-cleared transactions when

Money 2000
My hard drive crash, but before it happened I saved all my
files. I had Money 2000 on a floppy disc. I an not able
to retore my information. I try and open the file, the
program states that it needs to restore, and when it trys
to open the the file, I receive an error message that it
the file is read only. I have changed the attributes, but
still it will not open with my information.

Online Update seems to fail
In my Portfolio section, I choose to "Update Stocks
Online," and although the screen seems to go through its
usual machinations of calling and completing the contact,
the updates do not occur. My last update was 12/6; I've
been able to update critical prices online by clicking
through to the stock reports, and then entering prices
manually.
To my knowledge, no new software or protection was put
onto my computer; no changes in settings that I'm aware
of; I've not changed ISP; rebooted repeatedly; about out
of the usual "largely computer illiterate" options, and
still can't locate the problem.
