    - category for refunded credit card purchase Money 2005 Deluxe - Under an account, it is straightforward to find or make a category for an expense under a credit card say. However, sometimes an item will be returned so all or part of a charge is refunded. The issue I am wrestling with is how to categorize the refund so that is correctly subtracted from that expense category. So far I have been selecting the appropriate category from Expense, but entering the amount in the credit column. I always get an error message from Money when I do this, but I force it on through anyway. This is awkward and may not be the best way to do what I want, nor accomplish what I am after. I could establish an Income category that corresponds to the Expense category but that could add many more categories. I don't favor a generic Income category of rebate/refund because that would clearly not route the credit back to the appropriate category. Suggestions? Tag: No Disk In The Drive Tag: 188979

    - Money Invoice Designer I have 2005 Money Business. I use the invoice feature. However the invoices need to be altered to work for me. When I use the Invoice Designer and alter the template or make a new template (either/or) then save it, it looks great. However when I go back to use it, it no longer exists.     - Getting account out of subtotal I am using Money to manage my finances, but i do not want my savings account to show up in my account subtotal.     - Account Register View - start from the top When displaying an account register, is there a way to start at the top of the list instead of the bottom? I would like to display, say, all my credit card transactions in order by date but have the display start at the most recent.     - Investment transactions imported from OFX are in the wrong order. Hi, I'm using Money 2005 Small Business. I do some lite day trading and when I try to download transactions from my broker they are always imported into Money in the wrong order, which is a real pain. For example, I have an OFX with one day's transactions. The transaction appear in the OFX in date/time order as follows: buy sell short sell cover short buy sell short sell cover short short sell cover short However, when I import this OFX into Money and read the statement, the transactions appear in this order: sell short sell cover short sell short sell cover short short sell cover short buy buy When I try to accept the transactions Money starts adding phantom shares in order to balance everything out. Note that this is not occuring because of FIFO investment tracking. I can reproduce this with an empty money file with a single investment account.     - Money is picking up wrong account info. Hi all, I'm new to money and am trying to set up my accounts. I get all the way through the bank selection screen and fill in my info. During the update Money finds three accounts with my bank. This is correct but the problem is, it's picking up one account twice and neglecting my other account. I should have 2 checking and 1 savings accounts which it picks up but it is not picking up two different checking accounts. If I go to the statements of each checking account they are identical so I know which account it is getting and which it is leaving out. Also once it finds the accounts, I can't change the account number unless it is listed as a business account and even if the account settings show the correct account number it still picks up the other account.     - Transaction Classifiation I have one banking account setup, and one credit card setup. Both are updated online. After updating, I start putting each transaction into a catagory. The problem I run into, is, I pay my credit card through online banking on my bank account. So, when I try and tell Money 2005 that the transaction on my banking account is a transfer to my credit card (which is also on Money 2005) , it adds another transaction to my credit card amount .... which throws off my balanced accounts.     - Can't update Money 2005 Every time I run Money 2005 I get a message saying there's an update for the software, would I like to download and install it? I say Yes, it downloads the update, but then it always fails on installation.     - Correct Beginning Balance in Account I am absolutely new to Money. I'm using Money Small Business 2005 and have a problem setting up my checking account. I made an Owners' Transfer into the checking, it's the first recorded entry. However, the balance does not match the transfer amount, it's off by more than 50%. I made an Owners' Transfer (Draw) to bring the balance where it needed to be, but now it looks like I actually took this money out.     - Getting account update to actually function properly. I have about 9 accounts set to auto update in Microsoft Money. The problem is that whenever I go to auto-update, usually only 1-3 of the 9 accounts will update successfully. Is this normal? I don't understand how it possibly could be. I notice Money seems to use Yodlee to get account data so it may or may not be Money's fault. In any case. It simply doesn't work regardless of who's fault it is. I really want to like this product, but if it can't update my account data automatically I'll have no choice but to switch over to the dark side - Quicken.     - Help! Money 2005 doesn't work after update! installed 2005 premium two weeks ago and set up all my bank info. I got notice for update every time but I canceled it. But later, since my bank info was set, I updated it. Then the trouble came. I can not log in anymore.     - 'Transfer' between accounts creates duplicate transactions When I transfer funds between between either overseas accounts, or between different banks in the UK there is a delay of a few days before the funds clear and appear in the receiving account. If these transactions are recorded as 'transfers' they appear in both accounts on the same date, creating a duplicate entry. Is there any way Money can realise the time delay, yet still record the transaction as a transfer, or do I have to record the transaction using a dummy expense category?     - Avoiding duplicate entries I am a long time user of Quicken Home and Small Business, but have recently started looking at Money. (Removing the ability to import a QIF file from Quicken has forced me to start looking elsewhere). My question is - Is there any way to exclude an account from all totals and reports? The reason I ask is that in Quicken, I had an issue with duplicate deposits. When I got a payment against an invoice the payment would normally show as a deposit to my checking account. Then when I downloaded my checking account data, it would also contain those deposits and I would have a duplication issue. The way I fixed it in Quicken was to set up a dummy account where the invoice payments were credited and then exclude this from my reports and totals. It was still available to cross reference against the bank deposits but did not show as duplicate deposits in any reports or totals.     - Funding a bank account from loan I opened a loan where a cashier's check was given to me that I deposited in another account. I setup the loan properly (done this before).     - Money 2005 Trial does not open System: P4, 256 meg ram, plenty of free disk space OS: XP Home SP2 w/all critical updates & patches I have decided to do a re-trial of MS Money, I did d/l and try it very briefly last Oct.-Dec., but I do not remember if it was 2004 or 2005. The download and install(s), yes I have done this a couple of times today, have all gone well. However when I start it the HD is accessed and the cursor shows busy, but after a period of time all activity ceases and I am still looking at my desktop. The task manager shows msmoney.exe is running, but there is no Money window/interface open. As I have alluded to I have installed/reinstalled a couple of times, and there was a re-download in there as well - just in case. Prior to my last install I even cleaned the registry with jv16 PowerTools 2005 of all references to MS Money but this did not help. Could this behavior be a result of my having previously installed a trial version? I am at a loss and welcome all suggestions. TIA for your help/time/suggestions. -- Disciple "...     - Anybody using Money with some an archiving system with (paper) document scanning? Anybody out there using MONEY with some archiving system with (paper) document scanning? I would need it for both accounting-relevant documents and other important documents (But not OCR, and I wont scan "knowledge" stuff).     - Contact Information Everytime I set the contact info for my bank from the "change account settings" page, it changes on it's own. I put in the address, web page, phone number, etc. Then the next time I use money it all goes back to the wrong info. Then when I choose "connect to bank" on the left of the account register page, it goes to the wrong website. Is there a way to get Money to stop changing my bank info automatically? Money shows the catagory as: Supples Purchased 17.91 Sales Tax Paid .94 Repairs and Maintaince : 4 wheeler 2.97 -------------------------------------------------- Sum of Splits: 21.82 Unassigned : 419.23 --------- Total Transaction : 441.05 Thats crazy. I did not enter anything for this transaction, just downloaded. It copied it up from and earlier transaction. How do I list all the transactions that have an Unassigned amount that is NOT equal to $0.00? Please help. I do not want to have to go through each transaction one at a time to find Unassigned amounts. Is there any way to make it quit this bad habit and just leave them as blank and let me fill them later?     - newbie question Hi, I just started using Money 2004 deluxe and to be honest this is the first time I use it so I have some basic questions that I tried to find answer without success. 1- I included a CC account, this is an old credit card and I don't know the starting balance of it, I just know the current balance. I downloaded the transactions from the bank and now I'm trying to balance it. What is the best way of doing it? I was trying to look for an option that let me especify the current balance and the software be capable of calculate the starting balance. 2- Last friday I downloaded all the transaction, including the one in the running statement, when I downloaded yesterday the current statement to include those from the weekend the previously imported transactions where marked as needing my attention, why is that if I had already accepted them? What is the recomended way to handling transactions in the current statement? 3- I went to Favorites/My banks/ My bank to access my bank, I login and downloaded my account, after that I when to "Account list". Now after 10 min I get a popup from my bank saying that my session is about to expire. this was cause I did not logout when browsing, the question is, how can I go to the web page I was browsing, I tried to look for a "window list" but there is not such an option in the menu.     - How to enter bills as void? Is there a way to have certain recurring events enter into the journal without affecting the running balance? For example, I may have my rent and monthly savings deposit enter 15 days before the event occurs. This greatly skews my running check balance. I'd like to see these items in the journal but without affecting the running balance until say the day the event occurs. In other words, a voided transaction enters 15 days before the event. Money does not include it the dividends when showing the performance of an investment. It calculates the performance by looking at the purchase price and the current price.     - Downloading transactions with stock symbol conflict - endless loop. I have downloaded my transactions from my brokerage ... while trying to bring them all into the account I am on the screen titled Review Investment Activity... and I appear to be stuck in a loop where two named entries are conflicting One is 'Pengrowth Gas Income (Canada)' and the other is 'Pengrowth Tr Cl A Units' Both are the same company and the same ticker -> PGH I have tried all options available while trying to import these - This investment is already in my .... and - Add this as a new investment ... If I choose the first one and select the existing PGH entry - it asks me Are you sure 'blah' is the same as PGH? So if I choose Yes - it then goes to the other entry and I am at the same point - now I have to redefine PGH to the other name - and it just loops and loops and never gets past this point. If I choose the second one - it then gives me the option to remove the symbol and redefine the transactions with or without a symbol. No matter which one I choose - it never resumes the rest of the 156 transactions I have to bring in.. actually it doesn't even appear to do what is said it would do becuause when I click NEXT again - it goes right back to the same PGH issue. I can't do anything with the remainder of all of the transcations ready to import ... it won't let me past this conflict. HELP!! How can either resolve this PGH issue appropriately or skip to at least be able to import the rest of my transactions. I am using MS Money 2004 Thanks for any help.     - Importation of Address from QIF File I have a client, a small municipality, which imports refund checks into MSMoney 2003 to print the checks and to do reconcilations. The QIF file is produced by a third party product listing the Payee, address, amount needed and so forth. The import works fine. The problem is with the Addresses. When an Address is changed in the Third party software and exported into the QIF file the new address, if the payee is already in Money, does not get updated in Money. Therefore checks are being printed with the wrong address on them and mailed to the wrong address. Is there anyway to get Money to accept the address in the QIF file as the most recent address and over write the address listed currently for the payee? I am in the process of re-installing my system after a bad driver update
experience :-( and I just finished re-installing Microsoft Money 2000.
Everything is back to how I had it before except tha each time I start it
up, it tells me there is no disk in my cd drive. I click cancel and it
continues fine but this is annoying. I have run across this problem before
and I hope someone here will remind me how to get rid of this annoyance.

Please no suggestings that I get Money 2005, this work fine for me.

In the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Money\8.0,
you probably have something such as "AVHelpPath"="E:\MONEY\avhelp"
or whatever. So the AVHelpPath probably refers to your CD drive.
If you are adept at editing the registry, you can change the
reference to refer to your hard drive rather than your CD drive.
If you are not adept at that, find a friend who is. The path need
not actually exist on the hard drive.

Thanks, I just deleted the AVHelpPath, "H:\MONEY\avhelp" in the registry and
that worked fine. :-) Glad I did not have to move all those avi files.
