how do I enter annual budget items?
'new to Money04. I pay my own real estate taxes, so there
are 3 once-a-year bills for local, county and school taxes.
I entered them as recurring yearly bills, but they don't
show up on my monthly budget :-( Right now it shows the
money I know I need for that as being disposable income!
Isn't the point of budgeting so that we'll have that money
when our taxes come due? I hope so, and I hope one of you
kind people will know how to fix this.

I was just looking through that comparison chart and noticed that Microsoft
Money 2004 Deluxe, Premium, & Small Business versions come with 3 years of
unlimited support and 3 years of online services. The Standard version
comes with only 1 year of unlimited support and 2 years of online services.
On converting Quicken files the footnote says this...
"The Converter Wizard for Quicken® in the U.S. version of Microsoft Money
2004 Premium will convert files from Quicken U.S. versions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,
10, Quicken 2002, and Quicken 2003."

This is the only link on the Quicken webpage I can find about support
options. Apparently, there is no unlimited support and it costs $1.95 /
minute!!! That is f'ing crazy! I am not a Quicken user yet, but it would
seem to me they could at least match the same length of support as Microsoft
does on similar products.

Would someone know what it means when every attempt
to start Money 03 starts with an error box saying
"Runtime Error!"
"abnormal program termination" .
Constantly uninstalling then reinstalling hasn't helped.

401(k) Headaches - Beginner Advice Needed
Okay, I'm in the process of learning the whole process of managing
accounts with Money... up until now haven't had to do anything with a
401(k) plan. In my infinite lack of wisdom in this area, I have no idea
how to set this thing up in Money 2004's 401(k) manager or confirm that
it is in fact properly set up.
I've successfully got the 401(k) account put into Money, and I have set
up the last several paychecks' 401(k) contributions section to go to,
for example, "My 401(k) Plan (Contributions)". Does this number
typically also include the amount that my employer contributes also?
I'm looking at my first statement which I received 12/31/03... and the
numbers from my own Contributions and the "New Contributions" seciton
are close, but not quite: Money 2004 says $269.86; the statement says
$252.52 (note that this is before the Net Market Change of $7.16). Why
the $17 difference? Is there a discrepancy other than maybe an
incorrectly entered number in my paychecks?
Also, how do I know what to enter for my investments for this account
when trying to enter information from a statement? I see that the
company is not listed as being one of Money's online banking accounts,
but is there a way to download information for the individual
investments? Even if I can't download information for them, I have no
idea how to classify them... Bond, CD or U.S. Savings Bond, Equity or
Index Option, Money Market, Mutual Fund, or Stock. Money presents me
these choices but the name of the investment isn't always clear on what
it is:

Bills, Accounts and Budget
I have opened checking accounts and credit card accts on
money. When I pay a credit card via Bills and Deposits,
it enters it on both accounts but not in the budget, if I
pay it through the checking account it will then appear in
the budget but not on the credit card account..even those
categories and subcategories are the same. What am I doing
wrong?? If I do it the second way I found I can manually
enter it on the credit card account but need to exclude
from budget or it doubles...which is double the work

How do I enter in a paycheck with two direct deposits into
separate bank accounts? If I enter one of them as a
transfer to a bank account under the Deductions after
Taxes in details, it then shows up under my bank acct. as

Has anyone had this problem? My downloaded transactions

I've seen in some older posts that there have been problems connecting
to NetBank via MS Money... I'm having the same problem, and so far,

Unassigning category from payee
Money 2004 Deluxe: I've read in other threads that you
can't assign a default category to a payee. What, then,
can you do when Money continually assigns the same wrong
sub-category to a particular payee in downloaded
transactions? I have repeatedly corrected the error in the
register transaction forms, but Money refuses to get a
clue. On the other hand, Money 2000 had it right, with the
same file (prior to converting to Money 2004,) and Money
2004 has been very successful at applying the payee's
alias -- so it's not completely incapable of learning. Any

Incentive Stock Options
I used MSFT Money for while and had an account with Incentive Stock
Options that I "synced" with MSN Money's Portfolio. That resulted in
an account showing the Stock Option purchases. Now I have been
granted another ISO and want it to show up in the MSN portfolio.
The problem is I have converted from Money to Quicken and there does
not appear to be a way to directly enter Incentive Stock Options into
the MSN Portfolio -- Only Stock and Option contracts (Puts for
example).
I know this is the Money Software newsgroup, but I was hoping someone
might be able to help me.

After re installing both money pc and desktop I can't get money to sync
anymore. lost all files on the pocket pc.

Home equity LOC - there has to be a better way
I'm getting tired of how Money handles my equity LOC. I have it set up
as a credit card type account, which is really the source of the
problem, but Money doesn't really provide an alternative that I'm aware
of. First of all, it considers it equivalent to credit card debt for
the purposes of reporting, planning for savings goals, etc. And the Tax
planner has a nasty bug in which it refuses to pull in transactions I
have in the LOC even though I have them categorized as Loan:Mortgage
Interest. Anyone found a workaround for these issues? I thought about
possibly changing it to a bone fide loan account, but seems like it

Sorting Subcategories in Money 2004
My wife is using Money 2004 for a variety of accounts and a perplexing
problem has come up -- we cannot seem to find a way to re-sort report
subcategories.
The sub-subcategories have a little arrown next to them that changes sort
order, but we cannot seem to find a way to re-alphabetize the subcategories
themselves. There is no little arrow, and the report gallery and
customization tabs don't seem to have a command for this either.

I don't want to enter in each purchase I have so at the end of the month I
download my bank statements from Citizens and import them which is fine but
then I run in to a problem with my scheduled bills because money wont
recognize the payment.
Anyone else do this?

I just switched jobs, and have yet to decide what to do with my old 401k

MOney 2004 Crashes on startup- msofd.dll problem
My Money 2004 was working fine till this evening. As I
was using it, it crashed and now won't start up. Crashes
each time. Problem says with msofd.dll. First crash was
with msisam10.dll. I don't see any repair topics on these

Cannot open the money program
I have been using Microsoft money for about 2 years. I got it pre-installed
on my win XP Os via the Microsoft works suite 2003 that was also
pre-installed for me.
Now when I click to open the program, I get the following error message:
"Cannot display the End User License Agreement which must be displayed and
accepted before you can use the application. To display the agreement,
reinstall the application"
I cannot understand what has suddenly gone wrong to cause this problem. I
have run the EULA fix but to no avail. Re-installing is a problem as I do
not have the stand-alone money program CD. I have an emachine restore CD.
Do I have to manually change some registry settings? My two years of
financial organisation is locked up and I am not a happy man. What is
Microsoft up to? Please help.

erroneous roi calculations
What causes this? I have a mutual fund for which the 3
month and ytd calc is obviously wrong. During this period
I transferred the shares from one broker to another. I
used the "transfer out" command to move the shares from
one broker account in my pertfolio to the other. Did
this cause the miscalculation? The overall calc for all
the years I've held this fund and for the 1 & 4 week

Restoring backup...password? Didn't have one to begin with
I'm trying to restore a backup file that I'd emailed myself...trying to get the info from home, to my computer at work..
Anyway, when I try to restore the backup file, I'm prompted for a password...The original money file did not have a password. Hence I can't get past the password prompt and the process fails at this point

Upgrade from Money 97 to 2004 and additional ?
I have been operating in Money 97 since the beginning of
time. I have recently obtained Money 2004, and wished to
ask the user group of any issues prior to upgrading to the
latest edition. They are both Standard editions, as it is
used for personal home use. I appreciate any assistance
offered to avoid pitfalls.
Secondly, I have discovered that I have incorrectly
accounted for a Loan/Overdraft protection account that
effects multiple accounts. Is there a way to make
holistic changes vs. individual line items in either
edition? I have been unable to find this tool, and have
nearly 250+ entries over the course of time, and was
looking for an easy way to correct my errors.
Finally, on this same account, it appears to have a
running total of all tranactions. Rather than have a
current balance for advances then payments on the account,
it has a running total vs. balance. How can I correct
this situation.

Money 2003 - Got an error on on-line transfer
After pressing ok on error message which suggested I
resend the transaction later as bank is unable to process;
I pressed cancel.
However the transaction is now in italics in both the
debited account and the credited account with an
electronic 'icon' on the credit account list. I cannot
delete either transaction / nor can I send it again. Also
the original transactions with current trigger dates are
still in my Bill & deposits.

can not see a payee list in "pay to" drop down menu when I
am writing a check. I used to be able to pick a certain
payee in drop down menu in "pay to". Now all I see
is "blank".

Cannot uninstall trial version of Money
A few weeks ago I downloaded the trial version of Money to
see if I would prefer it to Quicken. I gave Money the edge
and decided to buy Money 2004 but I didn't want to download
it.
I put the CD in the computer and it gave me a message that
Money was already installed on my computer and I needed to
uninstall before it would load - no options. But there is
no uninstall program on my downloaded trial version.

Can someone tell me whether, or how often I must renew
Money, in order to use online services such as updating
mutual fund prices? I am thinking of switching from

cost basis/avg cost per share
I've got 2 accounts (mutual funds) set up under a single
financial institution. In Portfolio, using Valuations
view, Money calculates the cost basis for both accounts.
In Holdings view, it only provides cost basis for one
account, while displaying other details for both.
Also, in the Investment Performance section at the bottom
of the Portfolio screen, the commentary says the average
weighted cost for one of the funds is $0. I would like
an average cost per share calculation for both funds. I
can easily calculate this if I have reliable cost basis
info for both funds, but what's this $0 about?

Debt Reduction Plan not in Cash Flow Forecast
I have recently set up a Debt Reduction Plan to pay off
credit card debt. The amount shows up correctly in my
budget, under the Special>Debt category, but is not
recognized in the Cash Flow forecast. My checking account
balance continues to go up, when it should be charged for
the monthly Debt Reduction amount. My other budgeted
items are all appearing in the "Transactions during
Selected Time period" box and they are being removed from
my checking account balance.
I have checked that the Cash Flow forecast is
using "Budgeted Amounts" and it is displaying the
Necessary and Discretionary items.
I have been unable to find any articles relating to this,
and I noticed that nobody has given an answer to this in
the past.

Splitting bills on Credit Cards (restaurant, etc)
I have the common situation where myself and some friends
would go out to dinner. Normally we cannot split the
bill, so one of us uses our credit card, and the others
pay their share in cash to the payer.

Can't see payees in the pay to drop down list
I have used money since 2000. I'm having a problem
seeing the drop down list in the pay to area of the form
in my money 2003 program. It was working fine until I
changed my windows theme, and used a theme from
themesxp.org. I've changed back to the original theme,
and even uninstalled the money program and reinstalled.
Am i missing something. The payees have never gone away

Tracking Escrow
I write a check every month for mortgage. There are three
parts - Principal, Interest and Escrow. I want to maintain
a seperate escrow account so that I can track expnses in
that account seperatly. It seems that I cannot add

Handling Roommates in MS Money?

Does Microsoft Money allow you to adjust your budget planning for a roommate? It seems that I can either include all my cash outlays and include all the money he pays me (in which case my budget isn't really accurate, at least in terms of the percentage for each category), or I can omit him altogether and cut all my apartment-related outlays in half, in which case I can't track them all very well

I seem to be experiencing the same problem as a few other
people. On Saturday, Money was working fine, however
today when I went to update things the payee's were
missing from the drop down menu.

Selling my house
I have sold my house and want to close the "house"
account. In doing so, I want to pay off my mortgage, line
of credit and trnasfer to excess to my banking accounts.
However, when I try to create a transaction where I
decrease the value of the account by my sales price, with
splitting it between the three above mentioned areas, I do
not see the mortgage account in the drop-down menu.
Is there another way to make this transaction, or is there
something wrong with the program?

Hello,

2003 file?

Only one biweeekly deposit seen by budget setup
Hope someone can help me out here.
I get paid biweekly and that's how I have it set up in Money 2002 and I
don't have any problems with it. I recently tried to set up a budget and my
salary appears under income and it is listed as occurring biweekly but it
only used one of the deposits to calculate my total monthly income. Can
anyone tell me why it's ignoring one of my biweekly deposits? If I get the
details on my salary, it shows the correct monthly amount (approx twice one
pay check). At first I thought it was because at the time I was doing this,
I had only received one pay check that month so I waited and tried again
after my second check had arrived but no dice, it still showed my income to
be equivalent to only one of the biweekly deposits. I tried to add a second
salary deposit but it wouldn't let me which it shouldn't, but I was
desperate.
One thought just came to me, I don't have my salary entered automatically, I
have it setup in "Pay or Record Bills and Deposits" but I enter it manually.
Could this be the reason?

MS Money 2004 Debt Reduction
I've been experiencing weird things with debt reduction.
I'm simply trying to enter in a credit card account and
have it tell me when I'll have it paid off if I pay "this
much" money a month towards it. The numbers it gives me
through are not right at all.
For instance, at the beginning I add in a credit card
account that has a balance of $1,057 at an interest rate
of 10.9%. I tell it I want to be out of debt by 05/18/04
with zero one time payments and this is what I get...
"With payments averaging $5.00 and an extra payemtn of $0
you will be out of debt by Mar 18, 2004. With this plan,
you will save $0 in interest charges over the minimum
payment plan, and a $100.00 purchase will cost you
approximately $100.95."
This is obvsiously not correct. No way I'm paying that
off in 3 months with $5.00 payments.
So then let's say I change it to say that I'm going to
pay $400.00/mo, so when will I be out of debt. Then it
stays on Mar, 18 for some reason and gives exact numbers
as to what I'll end up paying..."a 100.00 purchase will
cost 100.95."
What's going on with this? Why won't it give me accurate
information??? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

redoing mortgage payments
I've just recently started using an automatic withdrawal schedule for my
mortgage payment, with a biweekly frequency. How do I record the payments
properly so that the interest and principal portions are reflected properly
in the split (fortunately, I don't have to worry about escrow).
