Thanks for the suggestion. I tried unregistering/re-registering the msxml3

might help with debugging this problem.

Money 2004 - "Unable to load topic" error
All,
I've recently upgraded to Money 2004 Premium from 2003 Deluxe. I'm now
finding that I can't view any help topics--I get the "Unable to load topic.
Click here to try again." I've tried all the suggestions posted here and at
other sites: cleared out temporary internet files, start Money with the
"-s" option, uninstall/reinstall Money, update HTML help, clean the
registry, et. al. Nothing seems to work--I can see the help
topics/subtopics, but when I click on a topic I get the error.
Are these help topics locally installed or is Money trying to access them
from the Internet? The reason I ask is I have a new version of Norton
Internet Security installed, but it said that it auto-configured itself for
Money. But, maybe it needs to be tweaked a little.
Any other ideas? I'm running Win98 SE (4.10.2222 A) and IE 6.0 SP1.
thanks,

Money statements not downloading properly (Money 2004 Deluxe)
For several months, when I download statements in Money
format from my banks (direct via their website), the file
doesn't make it to Money 2004 Deluxe. I get a popup as
if the file is being downloaded but I get no indication
from Money that it has been imported properly. It is
almost as if the file is 'lost' someplace and Money does
not recognize that a download occured. I get similar
indications if I download in QIF format but select 'open'
vice 'save'. If I download the statement in Quicken qif
format and save it to the hard drive and then double
click on the QIF file, Money imports it with no
problems. Only by 'saving' the file first and double
clicking the file, can I get Money to import it.
It has been annoying, but I have lived with it, until
now. I have an account at another bank and the results
have been the same, but this bank does not offer the
ability to download Quicken files in QIF format. It
offers QFX formats which Money will not recognize, so no
bank statements.
I have tried "Make sure that in IE6
Tools->InternetOptions->DoNotSaveEncryptedPagesToDisk is
not set." as was a suggestion for previous posts, but
that doesn't work.
Any ideas on how to get Money files to download and
imported properly?
Thanks,

Lifetime Planner: Asset Appreciation Computation
[1] For a home I specified an expected appreciation of 4%
(i.e., inflation plus 0.5% where inflation is set to
3.5%) on the window "How much will it appreciate?".
However, in examining the detail in the "Yearly Snapshot"
report for various years, the value of the home is
increased by 0.48% annually - whereas it should be 0.50%
(i.e., 4.0% appreciation - 3.5% inflation = 0.5% net
gain). I understand, of course, that a difference of
0.02% is minor - but nonetheless, is there a reason for
this discrepancy?
[2] For a retirement account the "Change" in assets is
reported as "+4.35%" in the "Net Worth" section of
the "Yearly Snapshot" report. However, since I have set
the expected pre-tax investment return equal to 8.00% and
inflation to 3.50%, why is the change not equal to 4.50%
(i.e., 8.00% - 3.50%)?
Your assistance will be appreciated. Tag: Debt Planner Tag: 172764
Lifetime Planner: Inflation Computation
It is not clear how the Lifetime Planner in Money 2004
converts current dollars into future dollars. Consider a
test case of $1,000 of "other income" received just once
in August, 2009 (i.e., five years from now), growing
at "inflation minus 1%" (i.e., at 2.5% where inflation is
set to 3.5%).
The $1,000 is loosing purchasing value at the rate of 1%
per annum. Compounded for five years, the percent
decline should be equal to (1+0.01)^5 - 1 = 5.101%.
Therefore, the value of the income in current dollars (in
August, 2009) should be = $1,000 - 5.101% = $949.
However, the Lifetime Planner reports the inflow income
amount in the "Yearly Snapshot" in August, 2009 as $958 -
almost a 1% error. (For longer durations or larger
amounts, of course, the error is magnified.)
Having experimented with other test cases, I am confident
that the issue is NOT "rounding error." How, therefore,
does the Lifetime Planner compute the impact of inflation
on a future income amount?
Your assistance will be appreciated. Tag: Debt Planner Tag: 172763

backup file won't work!!
OK, now I've really had it! This is my last resort!
Several years ago, while using Money 97, our computer
crashed. We had backed up every time we used money, so I
thought we were OK. However, we could never get the
backup file to pull up after fixing the computer and
everything was lost. I vowed that this would not happen
again, so I tried backing up on a ZIP disk instead, and
then on CDs. I also got on this newsgroup and got the
advice that I needed to first copy the backup file onto
the desktop and open it from there. I tried doing that
with the old program, and it seemed to work. I thought
the problem was solved. However, in December we got a
new computer and upgraded to Money 2004 Deluxe. I went
back to backing up on a floppy because I figured not
using the "copy to the desktop" technique had been the
whole problem in the first place. Well, our new computer
had a problem a couple months ago. I had backed up the
checkbook, but during this problem, I was able to get
into safe mode and backed it up again just in case I had
missed anything.
We ended up having to reformat the computer to solve the
problem, but I felt safe knowing I'd backed things up.
Once everything was reinstalled, I tried to restore the
backup. I tried opening the backup from the disk, and it
wouldn't work, and then I remembered that I would
probably have to copy it onto the desktop and then open
it, so I tried that. It still didn't work. Basically
what happens is if I go into the program (Microsoft
Money) and click on Restore under the File menu, it goes
through the process a while, then says that the file is
corrupted or it is not a Money backup file (it has the
money icon and everything by it though...). If I try to
copy it, it works for a long time, and then gives me a
data error, which says "cyclic redundancy check" in
parenthesis after. Then I found something in the Money
program that said it would repair corrupted files, so I
tried that. After working for a while, a pop-up message
comes up that says "Invalid Data base." If I view
the "Log" for the process, it says there are "no broken
records in the original." So, I am at a loss! Maybe I
just have a bad disk and I am out of luck, but I don't
know why it wouldn't have told me the disk was bad every
time I used it. This is extremely frustrating! I don't
know why I even use the program if I'm bound to lose
everything if we ever have a computer problem. Someone
please help or at least put me out of my misery! Tag: Debt Planner Tag: 172744

Old bill shows up instead of new bill
Good morning...
when i download my new transctions from my bank money 2003 canadian seems
to assign my auto insurance payments to previous insurer, not the one
currently setup with automatic bills in Bills & Payments.
so everytime i do a download i have to go and delete all the instances
(usually the last four) that got imported.
any ideas how i can get money to recognize these payments in the
downloaded transactions should be associated with my current auto insurer;
not the previous one? and then not re-enter old transactions and
associate new transactions correctly?

Account register sorting problem
Hi. I searched this group via Google Groups and did not find an answer to
my question. In Microsoft Money 2004 Small Business, I set my checking
account register to "Sort by date" and "Sort Decreasing". That part works;
however, the bottom (oldest) transaction is automatically selected. I hit
Ctrl+Home to select the top transaction. That is fine as long as my Money
session is ongoing. When I exit Money and return to the very same register,
Money takes me to the bottom transaction again.
It annoys me to have to Ctrl-Home in every account register each time I
launch Money! I have used this type of sorting in Outlook for years, and it
does the logical selection of the newest (top) item. Can I make Money do
it?
Thanks,

Reports in Money Small Business 2004
Since "upgrading" from Money SB 2002 to SB 2004, when I
run a Sales Analysis Report (ie, "All Projects" or any
project for that matter) . . . NONE of the sales/invoices
are included (except as $zero) for the dates BEFORE
I "upgraded" the software. The paid (or unpaid) invoice
(s) for all of the projects are still there, showing the
correct amount of money, they are not, however included in
ANY type of report I try to run. In other words, I can
ONLY get totals within a report SINCE I "upgraded" (since
6/1/04). IF I were to run any sales reports with the
dates set earlier than 6/1/04, all I get are $0 totals.
I'm running Money SB 04 on W2KPro. Any remedies or work-
arounds (short of reversal) would be muuuuuuch

Lost functionality with Money 2001 to Money 2004 upgrade?
I just got a new PC and am debating whether I should upgrade my copy
of Money from 2001 to 2004. I read a few posts which I can only assume
I misunderstood. Is it safe to assume that if I am doing online
banking through various institutions while using Money 2001, I'll be
able to do the same things with Money 2004 (with no charges/fees)?
Also, one of the posts mentioned that stock prices no longer get
updated after using the software for one year (if true, I assume it's
a pretty lame way for MSFT to get users to upgrade when they otherwise
wouldn't need to do so). Is this correct, meaning quotes from
different brokerages won't be updated in Money in one year unless I
upgrade? Please tell me MSFT isn't that bad.
If the issues above aren't true, is there any lost functionality from
Money 2001 to Money 2004?
Thanks in advance,

Special-Debt category doubling amount, and Debt period?
Hello,
Not sure if I understand this.
I created my mortgage payment bill. In order to have an
amoritization schedule, I have to categorize it as a Loan
Payment: bank name (acct I created) but it shows up under
Special:debt not under my category Bills:Mortgage and I
can't change it. It will automatically appear in the
account register broken down into principal and interest
as well as the checking acct it was written from.
So next problem when we refinanced I deleted the old bill
and created a new one but now the budget amount is the
total of the old bill and the new one. I found the
workaround KBA 318841 but it won't work cause when I try
to deit the deleted bill it just bounces me back to the
budget (probably cause the bill isn't listed anymore)and I
can't move it to a new category cause its locked in the
Special: Debt area..

Spltting Tranactions Later
Hello,
Money 2004. I sometimes will make a withdrawal, such as from the ATM, where
at the time, I may not purchase anything. Lets say the next day, I go buy
fast food with some of the cash. When I get home, I will then split the
transaction to add the entry for the cash I spent on the fast food. When I
do that, I just enter what I spent. I don't change the original cash entry
to the new remainder. When I enter that original split, Money provides the
nifty little "Sum of Splits" and "Unassigned" calculations at the bottom of
the split window so I don't have to do the math. When, I click Done, I get
the "Adjust Split Amount" window where I select "Distribute the [new entry]
proportionately between the split amounts." This is cool because it just
adjusts the original cash entry to itself minus the new fast food entry.
Here is my question: When I go to enter another transaction, say because I
went out for a beer, then the "Sum of Splits" and "Adjust Split Amount"
window do not show. That means I have to do the math and not only enter the
new transaction (the beer), but readjust the original cash entry. Is there
any way that I can change this so that the adjustments are made for me just
as in the first time I split the transaction? If my writing is hard to
understand, which it often is, please let me know and I can clarify. Thanks,

Tracking hours in Money
Good afternoon...
i'm using money 2003 canadian and i was wondering if there's someway i can
track the hours that i've worked (particularly the overtime) and my
expenses; and then reconcile them with my paycheque.
i'd really like to get to the point where i'm using as few tools possible,
so when the time comes to do my accounting i don't have money, excel
spread sheets, web-pages, etc. all open. and ofcourse, if it's all in
money i can track the movements and compare the balances more easily.
i thought of having some kind of investment account where i deposit hours,
each one being worth whatever my hourly wage happens to be (overtime hours
could 1.5 times the wage, 2 times, whatever it happens to be for that
contract). and when i get my paycheque i could do a transfer. but i
still need to account for source deductions (taxes, insurance, etc.). and
since i often get reimbursed for expenses with my paycheque i was
wondering if i should "deposit" my expenses into the account as well, 1
unit worth whatever my expense claim was -- or each expense individually?
has anyone done anything like this? any ideas? any feature like this in
upcoming versions of money?

I give up
I completely give up on this product. I've got three years worth of
business data in it that I now have no access to. I've been without
access for almost three weeks, and the best response I get from MS

It's possible that some maintenance we are doing tonight on our web

luck signing in online later.
(Yeah, I know that probably doesn't sound to reassuring, given our
track record this week. Seriously, give it a try now and let me know
what happens.)

Yeah, not very re-assuring when I can't get billing out and for the
last week they haven't responded to a single email I've sent.
I have no idea how I'm going to re-construct all the data. At this
point, I'm just going to pay for a third party to break the password,
get the data out and switch to quickbooks. If MS wants to tie money
and access to your own files to .NET, then the thing has to work EVERY
TIME. You cannot tie a business to a system that is going to fail and
lock someone out of their own data.. I mean, these are finances,

Business Expenses
Hello,
Money 2004 Standard. I am trying to catalog business expenses the correct
way. The way I have always done it is to place the expense in the reimbursed
business category, and when I get reimbursed, placing the reimbursement
check in the same category. I ready that in a post somewhere that this is
the correct thing to do. I can then run a report, which if everything is
entered correctly, has a zero balance.
My question is what if I have business expenses I don't get reimbursed for
in the normal way. For example, I take a trip in my own car. I pay for the
gas out of my own pocket, but I don't get reimbursed for the gas. I get paid
$0.375 per mile. Of course the numbers don't balance. I am sure that the
absolute correct way to do this is to have a car account and do depreciation
somehow, but that seems ridiculous to me not only because it seems like
overkill, but also because my car is nine years old and I couldn't figure
depreciation anyway. That said, is there any way to categorize these
transactions effectively? Thanks,

EARN LOADS OF MONEY HONESTLY, FAIRLY AND LEGALLY!
HOW TO TURN £3 INTO £6,000!!! OR MUCH MORE!!! IT REALLY WORKS (20/08/01).
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A little while back,
I was browsing through US and Japanese newsgroups, just like you are now in
the UK ones, and came across an article similar to this that said you could
make thousands of dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of
£3.00! So I thought, "Yeah right, this must be a scam", but like most of us,
I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you have to send
£0.50 to each of the 6 names and addresses stated in the article. You then
place your own name and address in the bottom of the list at #6, and post
the article in at least 200 newsgroups. (There are thousands). No catch,
that was it. So after thinking it over, and talking to few people first, I
thought about trying it. I figured "what have I got to lose except 6 stamps
and £3.00, right? " Then I invested the measly £3. Well GUESS WHAT! Within 7
days, I started getting money in the mail! I was shocked! I figured it would
end soon; but the money just kept coming in - thousands of pounds - and it's
still coming in rapidly! It's certainly worth £3.00, and 6 stamps. Let me
tell you how this works, and most importantly, why it works. Also make sure
you print a copy of this article NOW, so you can get the information as you
need it. If you follow the directions exactly, you will start making more
money than you thought possible by doing something easy!
Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (Print it out or download
it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come in! It's easy.
It's legal. And, your investment is only £3.00(Plus postage).
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is not illegal; and
it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!! If all of the following
instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions Exactly, and £10,000 or more
could be yours in 20 to 60 days.
This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the
participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the
instructions. You will now become part of the Mail Ordering business. In
this business your product is not solid and tangible; it's a service. You
are in the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are
happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, the money made from the
mailing list is secondary income, which is made from people like you and me
asking to be included in that list. Here are the 4 easy steps to success:
STEP 1:Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece
of paper: "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 UK £0.50 coins and
tape ONE to EACH of the 6 pieces of paper, so that the coin will not break
through the envelope. Wrap the £0.50 coins in dark paper to avoid mail
theft. Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes. MAKE SURE THAT
THERE ARE ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES (second class stamps would keep
your costs even lower). You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a
piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a £0.50
coin. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!
You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most
of us I was a little sceptical and a little worried about the legal aspects
of it all. So if you check it out with the UK Post Office (0845-722-3344)
they will confirm that it is indeed legal! Mail the six envelopes to the
following addresses:
1) H. Clarke, 32 Wood Street, Norwich, Norfolk, NR1 3RD 2) A. Ashwin, The
Vicarage, Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, NE47 6LL 3) K. Baker, 51 Stanford
Way, Norbury, London, SW16 4HE 4) D. Burke, 28 Dullaghy Road, Kilrea, Co.
Derry, BT51 5XZ 5) J. Crane, 196 Chamberlayne Road, Eastleigh, Hampshire,
SO50 5HW 6) U. Mehmet, 20 Victor Villas, Edmonton, London, N9 9UP.
STEP 2: Now take the number 1 name off the list that you see above, and move
the others up 1, (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc.) and add YOUR name as
number 6 on the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as close
to original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at least 200
newsgroups. (I think there are close to 34,000 groups). All you need is 200,
but remember, the more you post, the more money you make! : EVERYBODY AROUND
THE WORLD CAN DO IT, BUT REMEMBER TO PUT ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES.
This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to #####le18 Sec.
1302 & 1341 of the Postal Lottery Laws. Keep a copy of these steps for
yourself and, whenever you need money, you can use it again, and again.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty
and integrity of the participants and by their carefully adhering to the
directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will
continue, and the money that so many others have received will come your
way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and addresses sent to you, either on
a computer or a hard copy, and keep the notes people send you. This VERIFIES
that you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good idea to
wrap the £0.50 coin in a dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.) So,
as each post is downloaded and the directions followed carefully, six
members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer with
Fifty pence each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when
your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of pounds
in CASH!!!! What an opportunity for only £3.00. SEND it now; remember to add
your own name to the list and you're in business!!!!
DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS
STEP 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your own
posting. Simply highlight the document, and select 'copy' from the edit
menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory.
STEP 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the
blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This will paste a copy of
the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list.
STEP 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt. file. If you want to do your
postings in different settings, you always have this file to go back to.
STEP 4) Use Netscape or Internet Explorer and try searching for various news
groups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.)
STEP 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by
highlighting the text of this letter and selecting 'paste' from the edit
menu. Fill in the Subject - this will be the header that everyone sees as
they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group. Click the
'post message' button. You're done with your first one!
Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different
newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about
30 seconds for each newsgroup! You will begin receiving money from around
the world within days!
Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say you receive only 10 replies (a
very low example of 5%). So then you make £5.00 with your name at #6 on the
letter. Now, each of the 10 persons who just sent you £0.50 makes the
MINIMUM 200 postings, each with your name at #5, and only 10 persons respond
to each of the original 10, that is another £50.00 for you. Now those 100
each make a MINIMUM 200 with your name at #4 and only receive 10 replies
each, you will make an additional £500.00!! OK, now here is the fun part -
each of those 1000 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with your name at #3
and they each only receive 10 replies, that just made you £5,000.00!!!!
Those 10,000 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with
your name at #2, and if still 10 people per 200 newsgroups react, you will
receive £50,000.00! For worst case scenario: if you half the response by the
time your name gets to number 1 in the list, and you halve that again! (Only
2.5 responses per newsgroup) you are still due £125,000.00 in the post. With
an original investment of only £3.00! AMAZING!!!! When your name is no
longer on the list, you write to the name and address in the number one slot
on the first list that you replied to, and he or she will send you details
of how to take part in the next stage; so that you can enjoy bigger earnings
from your new business. If you think this one is good.. by then you will be
an experienced winner. The thing to remember is: do you realize that
thousands of people all over the world are joining the Internet (over 16
Million in the UK alone) and reading these articles everyday? JUST LIKE YOU
are now!! So can you afford £3.00 and see if it really works? I think so...
People have said, "What if the plan is played out and no one sends you the
money? So what!!!! What are the chances of that happening when there are
tons of new honest users and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it
a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 users everyday, with thousands of
those joining the actual Internet.
Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work.
NOTE: WE KNOW WHO IS NOT BEING FAIR AND HONEST. (So don't be that one to get
caught). GOODLUCK in YOUR NEW BUSINESS!!!!!!!!! How to turn £3 into £6,000!
Or more!!!! Do it!!!!!

Money 2004 Free Trial
I am considering upgrading to Money 2005. I am currently
using Money 2003 Deluxe. I use an online bank - Netbank -
which from other users in these groups say support online
billpay through Money.
I have been unable to get it to work, but I think it may
be since I am using Money 2003. I will only upgrade to
Money 2005 if I can get this feature working, otherwise
I'm considering going with Quicken 2005 since they promote
it working with Netbank.
If I download the free trial of 2004 and start using it,
will anything be disable (except videos/audio?) Will I be
able to import the 2004 trial file into 2005 if I can get
the online billpay working?
Thanks for your help!

money crashes as soon as I start
Just like the Re says, Money 2003 crashes as soon as I
start the program. I'd like to get Technical support, but
I need the product ID to do that, and since I can't start
Money how can I even access my product ID.
Any ideas why Money crashes, or at least how to access my
product ID otherwise?
Thanks

what happened to my password?!
I tried to open Money 2003 and the password that I have
always used for it won't work. As far as I know, no one
has accessed my computer -- it's password protected, too.

If I want to pay $1700 per month, why does the debt
planner use the minimum amount ($520) for the first six
months? There is plenty of money available in my budget.
