    - Lump-sum deposit and withdrawal I am working in Shanghai and now using Money 2005 Premium for my finance management. The bank here offers "Lump-Sum deposit and withdrawal" which has a higher interest rate than the average "deposit and withdrawal". There are some preset durations for "Lump-Sum deposit and withdrawal" you can choose from, like 3 months, 6 months, 9 months... The longer the duration, the higher the interest rate. I put 10000 as "Lump-Sum deposit and withdrawal" with the duration of 3 months and set auto-renew another 3 months for it when due, which means after 3 months the bank will have another 3 months for it with simple interest. This process will keep going until the day you get all the money out. Though the interest rate for it may change on a monthly basis, it will remain unchanged within the duration you choose. So when it is due,the bank is giving another 3 months with the new interest of the first day of the new duration time. It is simple interest, so when I am to get the money out some day, the bank will calculate the interest for the past every 3 months summed up as the total interest. My question is how Money 2005 premium can aid me in this process. All I need to do is first set it up with the initial startup amount and interest rate. Then every 3 months Money will remind me to enter the interest for the next 3 months.     - Microsoft Money 2003 Password help please I have never used Money 2003 for doing anything other than debugging my MSN Portfolio when it refused to donwload transactions from Schwab over a year ago when certain OFX transactions were causing Brokerage download to abort. Support kept telling me to use Money, so I broke down and bought it (Money 2003) over a year ago. It did allow me to download brokerage data and see the audit trail of OFX transactions, and by trial and error I determined what was causing the problem. I couldn't get Schwab support to change what it was sending nor could I get MSN Portfolio support to allow downloading to continue when it encountered the "error" transaction as Money seemed to do. My final resolution (work around) was to quit downloading data for the 3 of my 28 portfolio accounts until after 3 or 4 months Schwab stopped sending the data. At that point I uninstalled Money 2003 and reinstated downloading the 3 accounts in MSN Portfolio. All was fine for over a year when the "New Improved" (NOT) MSN Portfolio was released in July. After three or four weeks of almost utter frustration I finally go a *.inv backup file to load and look halfway decent. Now the .mny file is about 20MB instead of the 300KB size of the .inv file and MicroSoft insists on trying to send the data to some server in never-never-land. I don't know if this has ever occurred or not (nor do I care as long as the data is only the machine I use to access it on). But it seems that if I want to get brokerage data downloaded I must use Money to accomplish the task. So back to my archieved worthless (to me) software bin I went and dragged out the Money 2003 disk and installed it. Trying to open Money 2003 prompts me for a password for my .mny file. Every password that I have ever used for a passport has been tried as well as Schwab password, userid, old password I used on Money over a year ago before I uninstalled it. Nothing seems to work and keeps telling me I have entered an incorrect password. The My Portfolio.mny file I'm using is the one created from the latest .inv backup file (7/21/2004) which MSN Portfolio converted to the .mny file, and I don't believe I was ever asked for any password when it created it. "Help With Lost Passwords" only talks about .NET passwords and not .mny file passwords. I don't care about setting up bank and credit card accounts or anything other than getting my MSN Portfolio to reflect the download data from Schwab. Help what is Money 2003 looking for.     - rental properties in MS Money I have been through all threads in this newsgroup dating back to 1999 on how to set up MS Money to manage rental properties. I have yet to see a concrete answer. Most posts like this one I am writing go unanswered or say something like "use classifications" however. Does anyone out there have an extremely detailed step-by- step example on how they manage a rental property in MS Money? I am at a complete loss on how to even start tracking this in MSM, from purchasing the property to tracking expenses/income, running reports, to selling the property, etc. I would highly appreciate anyone's *detailed* answer and samples/examples.     - M2005 -- one word.... UGGGHHH!!! I just got the demo... was using M04 small biz. Very disappointed. 1) Runs like a SLOTH in need of a NAP, on my 3.4GHz P4 / 1GB ram. 2) MSN crap littered in every nook and cranny possible. 3) Apparently uses IE engine to "render" all pages so everything has a clunky "web-browsery" feel to it. 4) No "Find" function?? How do I just "Find" a transaction across all accounts??? Hello????? 5) Money Express has gone by the wayside... apparently they want you to use MSN Alerts. Well, I don't have MSN Messenger installed on my machine because I hate it. So I guess I can't use any of the bill alerts anymore. 6) Who $#*&@#*%* designed that bloody-awful "settings" section? In M04, all options were neatly laid out in a tabbed dialog box which was familiar to anyone who uses a computer. Now the settings are all spead out in a huge web-style page that you have to scroll through to find what you are looking for, and half the time you wind up on some MSN site when all you were trying to do was change a preference. Slower, and less efficient seems to be the name of the game in M2005. probably a whole bunch of other problems... but I am ready to give up and go back to M04.     - Money 2005 - Investment account position problem In my Amex Investment account I have two separate positions for the same stock (each bought at a diffrent time and price) when Money downloads the account activity from online update it only sees one position (100 shares) and it prompts me delete the 300 other shares that represent the other position.     - importing ofc files for Money 2000 I want to import my credit card statement data into the payee information each month for my credit cards. In other words, I may make 15 charges on my Bank of America Visa in say 7 categories (automobile fuel, auto repair, telephone, groceries, etc.). I want to list these as categories for that payee.     - Online Banking - Password Cannot Contain Special Characters I bank with Truliant Federal Credit Union. They require a special password to access information with Money 2005. Truliant's site allows the use of special characters in passwords. My password contains the "$" character.     - M05 rant from a curmudgeon Summary: more cluttered, less productive, more ads, more MSN vectoring that's harder to avoid, most of the same old bugs, and at least one malicious and subtle change. This release may yet go the way of M98 for me. The following items are in no particular order besides the order I observed them in. This is not intended to be a complete rundown; just one user's observations. For the few who don't know, I don't mess with downloaded data or Money-integrated ebanking, so the yodlee integration means Zippo to me. Tools|Options is now Tools|Settings. People who knew how to find it before will be lost now. People who didn't know how to find it before still won't. People who are new to Money but have used other Windows applications won't be able to find it. What an improvement. Oh, and once you get there, it takes many more clicks and much longer to get things set to your liking. Oh, and lots of these clicks end up in strange places like account detail screens. I'm sure this is usability lab stuff for people who couldn't figure out that accounts had details and the application had options. "For the streamlined financial reports that most users prefer, switch to Essential Reports." "For the streamlined bill management options that most users prefer, switch to Essential Bills." And the basis for "most users prefer" is what? Most users will generate lower support costs? Busy, blue, screens. Related Links?!? Find great credit card deals? Find cash for a car? Compare home equity loans? I'm highly unlikely to do any of those things this year. So I have to look at these links every day in every account register? I do understand SOME of the clutter: for instances, I *understand* the "Change register view" for the people that couldn't figure it out before. (But I'm skeptical how much it will help and I still don't like the clutter and increased use of screen real estate for useless or redundant crap.) How about next year we expand on "Advanced" this, that and the other, to "Uncluttered" this, that and the other?!? Mandatory ads in Planning (and Taxes and ...) even with ads turned off. That's what we were put on earth for: to be advertised to. Tax Estimator doesn't garble the screen! (Perhaps I'm too pessimistic, but I really was expecting this to still be an Essential Bug.) The mandatory single category list, well, just plain stinks. It only grew my file by less than 1 MB. It already wants to download an update. Who knows what it does? Updates the ads? Where's Money Express? Did it go the same place Money Side went? Where are these spending average things the propaganda talks about? Where, oh where, did the Accounts & Bills|Account Setup|Update personal information stuff go?!? (All of the "Maynard and Marjorie Krebbs' Money Home Page" stuff also seems to have gone away--maybe this stuff did too. I always found that bit a little creepy and I don't think I was alone.) An hour of playing with it and I can already confirm: the Scheduled Items Morph to Paychecks bug is still there. It must be an Essential Bug. It really annoys me that it is just not obvious at all what links really do things and what links go off into MSN la-la and advertising land. I'll bet the NG gets complaints about this. I hope Microsoft does. It used to be very easy to avoid all of this vectoring to MSN. Now it seems almost impossible. As near as I can tell so far, NONE of the items on my wish list were satisfied. Recurrence scheduling is still lame. You still cannot schedule classification of the elements of a loan payment. You still can't schedule everything you can enter in a register, even with Advanced Bills. I could go on, but it seems so pointless. I haven't yet installed it on my Money production machine. (That machine is a 2.2 GHz P4 with 1 GB of PC2700 DDR and Barracuda IV RAID 0 disks.) It's on my laptop (800 MHz PIII, 384 MB) and it runs like a glacier flows downhill. M04 wasn't really zippy on this machine, either, so I hesitate to say M05 is slower. It clearly isn't faster. I'm at a loss for why the package still indicates the system requirement at a 166 MHz Pentium with 64 MB of RAM. It's really hard to imagine how slow that must be. Maybe Russ P-J needs to buy his mom a newer, faster computer? What other reason could there be that the minimum system requirements haven't changed appreciably since M02? In M04, an Account Update on a 401k account used transactions entered through this date as the basis for the reconciliation. In M05 it uses transactions dated after today and includes them when updating to the values entered for today. That's a stupid and malicious change that clearly couldn't have come out of the usability lab. It still shows six entries of my paycheck transfer to savings in cash flow for every one that it should show after I enter a scheduled paycheck. I still have go in and make a no change entry of this value in the scheduled series to get Cash Flow Forecast back to sanity. I still have to do this every week. Tag: MNY 2005 Custom Invoice gone...     - can't complete 2005 upgrade Hi, I purchased 2005 premium on the web this morning. After upgrading from 2003 successfully some of the features are not available. Money claims it is performing a background update. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working. There's no network traffic even if I leave money for a while. I noticed with tcpview that after I enter my password money tries to connect to a159-134-196- 118.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com, which I assume is where it is trying to get the update from. One of the accounts that I pay bills from is the cash account of an Investment account. When I signed up with MSNBill Pay and connected for updates, it automatically created an account that reflected payments that were initiated thru it. I receive electronic updates for other activity from Fidelity and items appear in there automatically for other type of activity like ATM withdrawls and direct deposit. What I would like is for the MSNBillPay items to show up in the Cash account for my investment account. Right now, things are kind of split up and I have two "cash" accounts for my Fidelity accounts.     - 2005 won't import any Quicken I just installed my Money2005-Standard tonight and tried to convert my Quicken 2004 data. I get an error message that Money can't find all the files. All the files ARE there and Quicken can find them just fine. I also tried to convert an old backup of my Quicken2003 files and got the same error message.     - Web Statements versus Direct Statements in online services New to Money 2004. I have a checking account that for some reason is set up for online services as a "Web Statement". In order to get statements I have to go to my bank's web site and download manually. All of my other accounts are set up to download every time I launch Money, and is labeled as "Direct Statements" on the online services list of accounts. It says Money 2005 connects with more than 5,000 FIs nationwide, ... and that new, long list is very impressive. I can see that the GM Credit Card and a very small credit union I've used for years and years are both newly listed, and both with 2-way services. This rounds things out for me, every FI I deal with now has 2-way direct services. There is no way i am going to re-design it.... It was a pain in the first

It was this way all the time. Your template would be gone even if you
reinstalled M04. I think the reason is that everything related to the
invoice designer was traditionally so horrible and under-developed that
Microsoft merely couldn't imagine that someone would actually complete one
template.

Next time, find your invoice as an xml file and copy it elsewhere. Then when
you recreate it in the next or reinstalled installation, go and replace the
file.
