    - Tracking Foreign Stocks in Portfolio Manager Hi I am evaluating the trial version of Money 2007 and it can do everything that I want it to do with the exception of correctly tracking foreign stocks. The problem is that of the calculation of Cost Basis (Book cost). I have a number of stocks quoted on the London and European exchanges. When I record a "Buy", money asks me for the exchange rate and correctly calculates the Base Currency cost of the transaction. However, in the Portfolio review, if the exchange rate then changes, the Pounds Sterling and Euro stocks then show an incorrect Book Cost (both in local and base currency) which appears to be based on the Current exchange rate, rather than the "Booked" exchange rate that was entered when the stock was bought. This is quite obviously wrong, as the Cost of the transaction should not change over time. Because of this error, it means that all the Gain/Loss and Return calculations are incorrect, making the portfolio manager and investment valuation and performance reports unusable. If I enter the same stock transactions in Quicken, their Portfolio manager correctly reports the unrealized gain/loss. However, Quicken does not support automatic updating of non-US stocks - catch 22 situation!! As an aside, another really useful feature would be to be able to analyse the gain/loss split by both price appreciation and exchange rate movement. I notice that I am not the first person in this forum to raise this issue.     - Deferred taxes on retirement accounts Does anyone know how to get Money to track the deferred federal and state tax liabilities for retirement accounts within the investments section?     - Budgeting Features in Money I'm trying to decide between Quickbooks and Microsoft Money for my parents. The single most important feature for me is to help them budget unexpected expenses. If for example they have an unexpected dental expense of $1600, I want them to be able to enter that into the software and have it visibly show them that they have less money to spend in the next two months, even before they have received the invoice or paid it.     - Corrupt files I have reinstalled Windows, prior to which I made a backup my ms money files on two floppy discs. I've reinstalled MS Money but when I try to restore my files I get a message saying the file data is corrupt or its from a different money program.     - M2006: Reports problem after receiving Critical Update warning I received the Critical Update warning. It stated that if you have passwords for all your accounts when you go to the account update page that you don't need to do anything further.     - Strange Discrepancy in Budget Calculations--Any Ideas? I'm using the Microsoft Money 2007 (Deluxe) advanced Budget feature. I've been using Money for a number of years without any problem, but recently noticed this weird and very annoying discrepancy in its calculations. I'm sure it is some sort of problem with a way the data was entered, but I can't figure out where the error is. At any rate, here is the most basic way to describe the problem: When I created my budget, I budgeted $745 for my January rent (and it is still displayed this way in the screens to edit my budget). Yet, when I view either the "Budget summary" for January or view a "report" from that month, it mysteriously tells me that I have actually budgeted $1490 for rent that month, and screws up all the rest of the monthly totals. It only happens with this particular budget category and only for this particular month. The only way to get the reports and summaries to display correctly is to go back to edit the budget details and enter $0 for January. Then, the Reports and Summaries correctly note that I have $745 budgeted for that month (even though I entered $0). I actually did this back in January, but then just realized that doing this ended up screwing up my totals in the details of my actual budget, so I had been thinking I had $745 more dollars than I actually had these past few months!! Any help will be greatly appreciated on this front, as this is super annoying and my husband is losing faith in the software that I love so much! Tag: Critical banking update is not working.     - Transfer Dates Between Accounts I have not been able to figure this out. When I say, pay a credit card bill from checking, the date that it posts to my checking account will be different form the date it posts to the CC account. The problem: If I use the "Transfer: CC Account" category the dates in each account will be the same. This doesn't make sense, how often do transfers post to each account on the same day?     - Money, Electronic Payments and Regions Bank Hello, Since Microsoft's update to Money AND the merger of my bank with another bank 1 week ago, I have been unable to create/submit new electronic payments to my bank. My problem is trying to figure out if its the update or the merger that happened at nearly the same time that is causing the problem. Reaching my bank has been very problematic since the money updates and the merger. It would seem there is a large number of people having issues. The error message I am receiving when trying to submit new payments is paraphrased below: _____________________________________________________ Your transaction was not processed for the the following reason: Your request to pay XXX to XXXX on Friday, August 3, 2007 was not processed. If you see this message again, contact your bank or brokerage. More details: A general error has occurred. _____________________________________________________ This sounds like a bank problem to me, but I'm asking the group for their opinion. To resolve this, I have tried to repair the money file. I have also tried to create a new money file as a test and submit a payment from the new file. I've also reinstalled Money. I CAN however update all my accounts. The Regions bank account that I am having the problem submitting new electronic payments as well as credit card accounts. Any ideas?     - BOA Pay Bill Online Option--Suddenly Gone! This morning I went to pay my husband's BOA payment online (using my husband's login) and the Bill Pay tab is saying I can't pay the bill now until I set up a BOA checking account. I have ALWAYS paid my online payment using my own bank's checking account on their website. However, when I login as myself for a different BOA account, I can still pay my bill using Bill Pay. The difference is that his payment due has just posted. My payment will not be posted until the 27th. Has anyone else noticed that their Bill Pay section is suddenly gone?     - Bank of America Credit Card accounts won't set up Hi, I have Money 2007 Premium. I waited until the July 19th update was complete. I have had no trouble except for trying to set up online updates for my 2 Bank of America Credit Cards. I am in Ohio so I use the Bof A(allexcept CA, WA, &ID). I imput all my info for both cards correctly but when it tries to update I get a box saying the sign in with your financial institution failed.     - Two Investments, Same Symbol Let me start by saying, I've done searches on this newsgroup, read a number of folks complaining of the same problem I am running into, and am completely familiar with the concept of having a single "investment" in Money, and selecting it in two different accounts. I just say that because I want folks to read the details carefully for my problem, instead of giving the stock answer that applies in almost all of these situations. I'm also aware that the answer to my question may end up being, "You can't do that", which is fine. Okay, here's the situation - my wife worked for ExxonMobil, and while there she received stock options - some of which have been exercised and the stock kept, as well as having her employer make contributions of stock to a ESOP in her 401k. The 401k has online updates available with the online services, but it reports the investment as "ExxonMobil Company ESOP Stock", rather than just a purchase of XOM. Since I already have the stock in our portfolio with the symbol XOM, it won't let me assign that symbol to the ESOP investment. I've also tried changing the name of the stock to match the reported ESOP, but it tells me I've already got an investment of that name. I've tried combining the two, but the ESOP doesn't appear in the list of things I'm allowed to combined it with (probably because Money thinks the ESOP is a mutual fund, and it ALSO won't allow me to switch it to a stock, because there are transactions on it that don't match what Money thinks constitutes a stock). All I want to do here is have my automatic updates get the updated stock price for XOM and assign it to the ESOP, without my having to manually update the price. Is there any way for this to work?     - Recurring payments/bills (Frequency) Hi, does anybody know how to set payments for weekdays only (monday thru friday)? so far I use a solution I don't like (better than nothing) which is to set the frequency to "daily" and just after registering the friday transaction I'm able to skip the saturday and then the sunday transaction. As I tried so far, it's not possible to skip or delete the unwished weekend transactions in advance. So this way I can't have a precise cash flow.     - This transaction cannot be entered...again. My Money 2006 version is 15.0.80.513. When I opened my checking account this morning it went only as far as April...transactions since that date did not appear. Did a File, Restore from my external hard drive to bring it up-to-date, and I balanced the account without a problem. When I went to enter a transaction, though, I got the dreaded cannot-be-entered error message. Googled Cal Learner's last response to a query about this, which recommended a File Repair Level 2, but I don't see anything listed by level...just a request that I identify the file that I want to repair. Which file do I want to repair, the backup or the program file? Last time this happened, I did the transaction on my laptop, then uninstalled and reinstalled Money and restored from my backup.     - Money 2006 reports When using Money 98, the reports when viewed on the monitor and printed out display the Categories in bold print and Subcategories in fine print...great. Money 2006 however shows Categories in bold print on the monitor, and Subcategories in fine print on the monitor but when printed out everything is in bold print, no differentiation...not good. I have rechecked display options but am still confused as to why the difference. Is this the way things are ?     - Online Banking update BofA I managed to get one update of my BofA accounts today. I then merged them into the old accounts and it would not update anymore. So (following instructions) I disabled online banking and tried to add them again. Now I get an ID: obres:22063 Source: 16.0 If I try again, I get "Updates temporarily unavailable". I disabled the online services for the bank accounts that did not show a password box. I am stuck at the instructions where I am supposed to add the accounts.     - Money 2k7 online banking update: PayPal Money Market Funds gone? I've been using Money 2k7 for a while now (2k6 and 2k5 as well), and I've been able to do online updates for my PayPal account by setting Money upt o sync with the "PayPal - Money Market Funds" online banking. However, after this update (which I've just done), there is no longer an entry for *any* PayPal online service. WTF?!?!?!? It was there prior to the "update", it worked fine, but now it's gone?!?!?     - Merging dupl;icate accounts After the recent "critical banking update" there are now duplicates lsted under My Accounts under Money 2006. However, clicking on Merge Duplicate Accounts does not list any of these accounts to merge. Why aren't these accounts listed (these are banking accounts). Thanks to the recent update, I have also lost the ability to obtain my Credit Union's transactions as well. This whole procedure could have been done better, sorry.     - Complicated My brother-in-law (BIL)has been using Money 2004 but has been posting everything manually. I have been using Money 2006 and have been updating everything on-line. I have been keeping the (Money) books for myself, my daughter, my son and my BIL and in essence have had 4 separate data sets using Money 2006. My data set was the only one that has been used to download credit card, bank, brokerage and other downloadable account data. On the other hand the data sets for my daughter, my son and my BIL were used for one purpose only; to download brokerage (and IRA) account data only. Recently, my BIL decided he wanted to start downloading everything using 2004. So I put his data set on a thumb drive and took it over to his house to import the several years of data into Money 2004. It didn't work. Furthermore I found out that his 2004 had many apparently insoluble problems. Si I went home and got my Money 2006 installation CD. Back to BIL's house to install it. It worked fine as long as I used my password. OK fine, but I want him to have his own legal copy of Money, registered in his name. Here's my question: WHEN MONEY 2008 COMES OUT, WE WILL BUY TWO COPIES, ONE FOR HIM AND ONE FOR ME.     - For those with problems logging in online and downloading from some institutions There is a significant change today 19 July at the servers which provide online sign in with LiveID/Passport and get the statements for those institutions that don't provide their own OFX servers. See the top and the "Scheduled Events" section of http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/common/networkstatus.aspx for information. That site will be updated as things progress.     - Unable to Update I've run Money 2005 for two years without a problem. However, my update to Fidelity Investments failed on 7/17/07 at 7:49 PM. I tried to update yesterday (7/18) but it wouldn't run and the message was "You cannot perform this operation right now. Please complete the current task and try again". I tried again today and have the same problem. My account view shows the message "Updatein Progress". Any suggests?     - Can't open Money file directly. I have Money 2005 I have many accounts at different banks. I can always open Money by using my password. I just added a new account & it tried to hook it up with Net.Passport. Now everytime i try to open my file it wants my Net.Passport. I deleted the new account,but it still opens with Net.Passport. Money's critical banking update is not working. I can not get help
from Microsoft support, Money support or even a response from the
"experts" in this newsgroup.

Now, I can not even make electronic payment through Money/MSN Bill
Pay.

I explicitly follow Money's "critical banking update" instructions
only to get a response for the past three days "Account setup
unavailable. Account setup is temporarily unavailable. Please try
again later" error message.

Looks like I'll try a company that gives a crap about the product it
sells and it's customers.

Some of the "experts" in this newsgroup don't even use the transaction
download stuff just to avoid problems like this. Let us know how your data
migration to Quicken goes.
