MONEY 2005 - summary info while balancing account gone in this version?
Hello all,
I have been using Money since '2002, and at this point, I'm about fed up
with this supposed 'upgrade' of Money 2005. My bank statements (much like
everyone elses, I assume) shows the total number of deposits/credit
transactions, and a subtotal for those, and the total number of check/debit
transactions, and a subtotal for those, as well.
In previous versions of Money, I used to rely upon the same information
being shown in the register while balancing my account to help me 'see' that
I have the same number of deposits and/or credits, and it really helped to
narrow down where a discrepency might be in the register.
Now that I have started using Money 2005, I have noticed that this summary
information is now missing in the register while balancing accounts. I've
searched all over the product, to no avail at this point, for an option to
turn these summary counts and totals back on while balancing an account, but
I've yet to be able to find any such option.
Does anyone know if this feature might be added back in or is it available
to be turned on by some regkey or something similar? Any help is
appreciated....
This is frustrating enough to make me want to stop using the product - I
only switched to Money so I could sync w/ the Pocket PC, and I swear, it's
been one series of frustrations with the product over another, and nothing
seems to work as logically or simply as Quicken did/does.

Cannot download from bank! Tried all corrective action from...
Using 2005 Money, (small business).
This forum and called Microsoft. I've deleted in full and from the registry
all traces of Money and re-installed.
The only time I was able to download was with the trial software! I checked
the Microsoft online questions, all those little things.
Maybe it is indeed my bank? Won't download in the days following download
into trial, they have to reset something?

Budget Questions
Using Money 2005 Standard
Quicken has a very robust set-up for budgets. If the category was
rateable (newspaper subscription) I could setup the budget for that
category as such. If the category was not rateable (auto insurance
which I pay once per year), I could setup the budget will the Auto
Insurance amount in March.
1) I am not seeing this flexibility in Money's budget. Is it there and
I am missing something?
I ran some reports to look at the last 13 months of spending and income
by category. I creating this report some numbers looked way off so I
had to dig some more. I came up with some accounts and categories to
exclude (dividends from my 401K and IRA's for example).
2) If Money's robust enough to handle exclusions like this?
One of the first windows I see prompts shows me 'Automobile' $3500 and
then asks me to enter a Monthly value.
3) How does Money determines that $3500? Is there a mapping I can look
at?

Bank of Oklahoma connection issue
Hello,
My wife and I have bank accounts sprawled throughout the US and so far 2005
Money Premium has been a champ at pulling them all into one location with one
exception.
I cannot make a successful connection to Bank of Oklahoma. I have verified
the username and password, and have full functionality on BoK's online site.
I realize this is probably a platform issue, but does anyone have any idea
who I need to contact?

Budget Summary Error
Hello out there. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.
The budget summary for February is showing budgeted expense amounts that are
different than how I originally created them. This problem occurs only with
budgeted expenses that do NOT have an associated bill. For example, I
budget $200 for dining out and the budget summary for "current month" shows
$183.98. The summary page for "next month", "previous month", and "current
year" all show the correct amounts. Only the "current" month summary page
changes the values on every item.
The Microsoft Knowledge Base doesn't have any article on the issue and at
least one person has posted a similar problem here in this newsgroup. I've
been using this product since 1997 so I have seen quite a few weird things.
This issue is particularly annoying.

2005 Bank Updates on closed account
I had an equity line that I have paid off. When I go online to download the
transactions for my other accounts at that bank M 05 D tries to obtain a
balance for the closed account from the bank and reports an error that it
could not download the tranactions becuase the acount does not exist with
the bank. I have closed the account in M 05 D and it still tries to update
the balance which is "0" in the register, the "account closed" is checked ,
etc.

How is tech support for Money?
Hello --
I'm evaluating Money 2005, and these boards are very helpful in seeing the
types of problems people are having.
I think problems in software this complex are inevitable, so the real
judgement should be how quickly and easily Microsoft people are able to make
themselves available to solve problems, and then actually solve them. The
MVP responses here seem great, but with all due respect to their knowledge it
isn't backed up with the power to actually go in and fix things if they come
up.
So has anyone interacted with Microsoft tech support on Money issues? With
so many distributed systems interacting here, my main concerns are not
software-type install or bug issues, but sorting out things like the
interaction between Money and MSN or Money and my banks online system.
My worst case scenario is to have a major problem and have Microsoft say I
have to call MSN, and MSN say I have to Money, or my bank, etc.
Does anyone have any feedback to offer?

Why are only some accounts on MSN Money?
Hi folks --
I'm evaluating Money 2005 Trial Edition (Ver. 14.0.10.1105), and just coming
around to trying the online accounts feature.
The problem I'm having is that only two of my six accounts are visible
online. Using the Money classifications I have 4 "Bank" accounts (three of
which are actually cash accounts), 1 "Credit Account," and 1 "Other" account.
When I log in to MSN Money all I see is 1 of my "Bank" accounts (my actual
checking account) and my "Credit" account (a Visa card).
I thought it had something to do with those particular institutions being
online themselves, but through other interactions with them I not even sure
that my archaic credit card company is even using computers at all, much less
being online. Money doesn't offer synching with them from the native
application at all.
I've looked all over for some sort of "Publish to MSN" configuration option,
but no luck. I'm sure I'm missing something simple though. Can someone help
here?

Installation Probelms with Money 99 and XP Pro
I have successfully installed Money 99 on my laptop which has XP Home
(SP2). When I try to install it on my desktop with XP Pro (SP 2), I
receive the following message:
"16 Bit Windows Subsystem - C:\Windows\System 32\Autoexec.NT. The

Upgraded to 2005 Deluxe, where are my transactions?

I just upgraded to 2005 Deluxe. After the install, I opened my .mbf file
and Money told me that it converted my file. So, I want to make sure it
imported everything correctly and it didn't import anything. My bills that
were in my previous version aren't there and non of my bank accounts that I
had years of entries for.

Bugets
I'm currently running MS Money 2003 Deluxe. I have been trying to set up my
budget. I think I finally have it all correct, but when I view my budget
report for the previous month, some categories show $0 budgeted when I have
an amount specified in my budget. I saved my budget, and set the dates to
include the previous month (as well as months prior to it) through the next
year. Is there some magic button that I need to push so it will realize that
my new budget has an anount in these categories?? I'd appreciate any help as

Mortgage escrow account
I am having trouble tracking my home mortgage payment information so I can
get both the principal to populate the loan account and to get the escrow
account to be populated. Any help would be appreciated.
The loan payment is through a checking account withdrawl. If I want to
track the escrow account I can split it from the payment manually. I
manually split the payment into Loan: Mortgage Interest, Princiapl and a
transfer to a cash account called escrow. This doesn't link the principal to
the loan account.
If I want to track the principal payments, I can change the checking account
entry to use the Loan payment: Home. THis however changes the splits to use
Money's and the transfer to my cash escrow account is lost and edit doesnt
provide the same transfer links as my previous manual splits did before this
category.
Anybody know how to get both loan and escrow tracking to work?

Is there a way to print, in one transfer, all of the lines which make up
each category in the Profit and Loss Statement?
For example:

I want the detail under "Made up of" not just the account totals.

IRA Cost Basis variance
In my IRA account, MS Money '05 reports a different Cost Basis than my
Financial Advisor reports it to be - MS Money reports my Cost Basis 3.7%
higher than my Advisor shows. I record detailed transactions, so our details
should be the same; we show the same current portfolio value.
This difference though causes us to have a difference in what my annualized
return is reported to be. My advisor reports my return to be higher than
Money shows.

Microsoft Money 2005 Standard - Current Version
Problem 1) I have a Stock that I have owned since 1976 that I won in a
contest. I have taken the time to enter the 29 years of dividend
history. For 2004 I have entered the Dividends as a transfer into my
Checking Account to match with the Direct Deposit. When the transaction
is recorded everything shows up okay - Dividend in Investment and
Category and Deposit in Checking. Something is triggering money to take
this dividend and change to as a payment in my checking and changing
dividend transaction from a positive amount to a negative account.
It does this for all 28 years of dividend history - except for one
dividend received December 2004. It only does this for this one stock.
Last night I had correctly this history after I discovered this
problem when my checking account did not reconcile. It had reconciled
the night before and I download one transaction and it became out of
balance. I corrected the problem for 2004 and reconciled my checking.
I then went to investments and corrected the other 27 years. Next I
reconciled the Investment Cash Account and went to the investment
register and marked all investment transactions are reconciled. Why is
the application changing reconciled items?
Money was okay earlier today, but sometime today while I had the file
opened all 28 years reverted back to the 'negative' dividends. I have
fixed last years and will get to the other 27 years.
Item 2) Yodlee - although I entered all my transactions off of the
receipts I get, I prefer to download the transactions for reconcilation
purposes. The main issue I have with Yodlee is my login and passwords
disappear after a week or so. First they are unable to connect then
over the next couple of days they lose the password. I have about 10
different financial institutions I deal with for a total of 16
accounts. I am going to stop using Yodlee and revert to downloading
from the financial institutions website.
Item 3) MoneyCentral - since I am not going to use Yodlee, I have
disabled loading my data to this application. However, I did discover
a couple of issues - the dividend discussed it item 1 above did not
show in the transaction register although it shows in my application. I
have one investment account (my 401K with Vanguard) that does not show
on the Account Register, but shows just fine in the Investment
Portfolio.
BTW - I have just checked my Checking register - during the time I have
been typing this, my dividend discussed in item 1 has reverted back to
a negative number for 2004.
If Mr. Gates used this Application, perhaps some of these problems

my money 05 has updated my balance from the Bank of America, however some of
the transactions do not appear in the register.
None of these are pending transactions.

I've been using the trial version of My money. I just downloaded the full
version. I installed it , ran it, and it downloaded some files and told me
to restart to use all the features. After I restart it goes back to the

Automatic updates in Money 2005
Still no answer? Surely there is some way to regain control of
the update function in Money 2005. I have tried every thing I can
think of, even setting the update interval to 9999 minutes and
checking the checkbox, but it ignores my request and persists in
updating my portfolio every 30 minutes. It will do an automatic
update immediately after start-up, then consistently, every 30

M04: Attempt to undo delete results in "Command failed"
M04 running on WinXP Home. After deleting an incorrect transaction, I
went to the Edit menu and was happy to see the "undo delete" option
available. When I tried it, the undo did not work, and I got a dialog
saying "Command failed".
I tried it a couple more times...same message.
Deleted another transaction and tried undo delete...same thing.
Is my data file corrupt in some way, or is the undo command not working
correctly?
The two transactions were downloaded transactions that I had not
accepted yet.

Upgrade failed
I have been using Money 2000 for more than four years and decided to upgrade
to Money 2005. However, Money 2005 crashed when trying to convert the old
file. I tried using the salvage tool. In quick repair mode it reported no
error, while in standard mode an "Invalid Database" error was reported early
in the scan. What should I do now? Is there anyway that old file can be

Ultrasoft sync with Palm
My Palm had a fault which I've now cured but in the course of experimenting
as to the cause I reinstalled the Hotsync. This has removed Ultrasoft from
the list of packages to be synced. I've still got the intermediate file and
have stuff on the Palm and on the PC that have not yet been synchronised, so
don't really want to make any changes to the PC set up other than perhaps
whatever registry or .ini file or other adjustment is required to force
Hotsync to pick up Ultrasoft again in amongst Dates, To Do and so on.
Ultrasoft's support could offer nothing better than reinstalling their Money
synch software, even though that will wipe unsynched records from the Palm.
Does anyone know Ultrasoft and Hotsync software better than Ultrasoft
themselves do? Palm are traditionally useless at answering, or rather
completely ignoring help requests, and answers may instead be found on the

2/17 Document a bankrupt company & their stock Money Deluxe 2005.
Does anyone know how to document in the account register the fact that a
company is no longer traded and has zero value? I am trying to balance the
statement from my broker with the account register. The only method I have
found is to show it as a sale, which is obviously incorrect.
Also is there any way to have Money track the stock symbol for bankrupt
company? I owned shares in Acterna, which my broker tracks as ACTRQ & Yahoo

I have used all versions of MSMoney since V98. I presently use
V2003 (works good but is very slow). I did not update to V2004.

Why the Bills section so slow !
I have a decent machine and it is not normal that it is so slow compared to
Money 2004
I have a P4 3.2, 1 gig RAM, 2 WD raptor in RAID 0
I use Money 2005 Premium and I don't know why the bills section is so slow.
Everytime I pay a bill (not online) or transfer money from account to
account, buy investments
it takes about 10 seconds to execute the transfer, pay bill or buy
investments and this is not online.
I pay my bills online on my bank web page and after I input the bills in
Money to match my online transaction.
My Money file is around 10 Mb which is not that huge.

Online Banking in money 04
I set up a 401(k) account for online banking. I used info from the
instituton's site to set it up. I accidently deleted the account before I
even downloaded any statements. When I went to set up the account again, it
is not showing on the financial institution list, but is listed on the money
website as providing online service. I can't set it up for online anymore.
How do I get it to show on the list in money 04, so I can access my
information online. Updates don't work, reinstalling money doesn't work.

Budgeted Items do not show up in Cash Flow Forecast
I have Money 2005.
No problems with the Cash Flow forecast including my bills and deposits, but
the budget and debt planner information are not showing up in my cash flow.
My Cash Flow settings are set to pessimistic and to allow discretionary and
necessary items, include advanced budgeted items, etc. I have created a new
Debt Planner, but that did not help.
My Cash Flow is going through the roof, but I know it is incorrect. How do
I force MS Money to include Budget and DP items in my Cash Flow?

Microsoft Money - Worst Application Integrity / Poor Software Qual
To whom it may concern, and to all those who'll find and read this as it
becomes posted at Quicken's website, Newsrooms/Blogs and Communities of
Interest across the Internet:
The purpose of this correspondence is to convince anyone who reads it to
stop using Microsoft Money and find a viable alternative before they suffer a
similar experience.
I've purchased almost every release of Microsoft Money since it became
generally available. My problems began when we converted from MS Money 2003
to 2004. After opening a trouble ticket with MS support, they informed me my
backup files were corrupted and could not be restored. I lost several years
of financial data and untold days if not weeks of my time to restore what
financial data I could salvage. My files were backed up following the
technical guidelines provided by MS each and every time.
Against my better judgement, and after seeking advice from Microsoft, I'm
currently using MS Money 2005 Deluxe and was instructed via the technical
support pages to uninstal and reinstall the application due to recent
problems with downloading bank statements.
After backing up my 2005 Money files, I did as instructed. Another year
later and all of my financial data is once again corrupted.
Last year, I had Pentium III machine w/ plenty of RAM and storage. I stored
my backup on my hard drive. They infered it was my equipment's fault.
This year, I have a new Pentium IV w/ External drive connected via Firewire.
When the backup file wouldn't restore, I followed the MS Tech Support site
instructions to copy the file to my local drive. The repair/restore utility
still didn't work. They inferred it was my equipment again.
In a nutshell, Microsoft continues to distribute and sell defective software
without any concern for the devastation and frustration it causes to families
who are trying to manage their financial endeavors.
I am an IT professional with over 20 years of industry experience working
for SBC. I understand PCs, Servers, and related networking functions.
In my opinion, this application is completely unreliable in many functional
areas with a special emphasis on the low integrity of their backup and
restore function.
If anyone at Microsoft is truly interested in improving the quality of
Microsoft Money, they should invest some resources to resolve their
outstanding bugs and known problems prior to issuing new releases. You can

Unfortunatley, like many American companies, Microsoft outsourced their
Customer Support function overseas making the technical support experience

How Long Until Money 2005 is Stable?
I've been a Money user since '98. I've never had a problem with the
application until I upgraded from 2000 to 2005. (I know it's a bit a span
there)
My main reason to upgrade came from the ability to run the application from
several different computers and maintain a balance. This has never worked
for me 'automatically'. If I make a entry one place it is rarely duplicated
in the other. I believe the culprit is actually MSN Money, not the
interface/application on the PC. When I compare bank balances between local
balances there is almost always a very large difference.
I believe most of this comes from MSN Money not being able to handle account
updates from two or more user sources as well as a bank source. It's just
not well thought out.
I've moved to running Money on just one PC now and still have a boatload of
problems. Automatic/Manual updates rarely work and I am plagued by having to
respond to the same 'Statement Reminders' whenever they do. I use online
updates because I like to see what is happening with my account. I'm tempted
to disable this 'feature' and just go back to manually downloading updates
from my bank. If I do that I will have sacrificed two of the main features
(multiple pc's and automatic account info) for which I bought the application
in the first place.
My latest issue comes from trying to balance my single account after the
fiasco of the multiple PC issue. After spending hours, if not days, trying
to reconcile my accounts I finally got them close by going back to my bank
statements and checking off each one manually. (So much for automation)
When I noticed my auto loan was missing most of the entries I checked the
register and they were all there. I tried to change the details/category to
no avail. I then manually entered the loan payments and went back to delete
the old ones. The 'delete' option was there, but they would not drop from
the register. I finally had to VOID the entries and leave them in my
register.
I've opened my second call with MS support and hope they have a better
answer of "Please delete your file and re-import from MSN Money". That's
equivalent to a wipe and reload of a PC. Just means they don't want to
investigate the cause of the problem, they just want to fix it at the
customersâ?? expense.
So after that little tirade, does anyone see this application becoming
stable and usable in the next year? I love some of the features and use this
software daily. I just want it to do the simple things like let me know what
