Is Money 2005 compatible with Window Me? If it is, is there any reasons why
I wouldn't to upgrade Money 2000 to Money 2005 on a computer running Windows

My bank provides bill pay, but I do not want to use it. Instead, I prefer to
use MSN Bill Pay. I cannot figure out how to either disable my bank's bill
pay service, or specify I want to use MSN bill pay.

My laptop runs windows xp, my desktop runs windows me. I have money 2000 on
the desktop and I am trying to transfer the back up from my laptop to my desk
top using my backup on a floppy disk. Its starts restoring the backup and
then asks for a password, I never created a password. How can I share the

Dramatic Size change in Money 2006 file
While we are starting a new year, I have deleted several old transactions
from Money. As a consequence of these activities, the file size increased
from 6 MB to 24 MB. Does anyone know why this happens ?

Using Money Premium in Canada
I have been using Money for 9 years now and am quite pleased with it. I am
currently using the Canadian Edition of Money 2000. I use it on nearly a
daily basis to track my income, expenses and investments.
I would like to upgrade to a new version to be sure that my stock quotes and
bank downloads will continue to work and hopefully gain some of the
improvements and fixes that have occurred in the past 6 years.
It appears that Money 2006 Standard does not track investments and it
appears that Premium does not work for Canada. Since I have been happy with
MS Money I wanted to be sure before I went out and purchased Quicken. Has
Microsoft really given up the Canadian market for personal investment
tracking to Quicken or do they have some other product or version I am not

Backup file size different from last week
I backed up Money today and I noted that the file size was about 10 Meg, but
the backup last week was closer to 20 meg. I thought there might be
something wrong with the backup I just did, so I did the backup again, to
another location, and still it was 10 Meg. What would explain the drastic
change? Nothing was deleted during the week.

Pocket PC not synchronizing to Money after upgrade
I upgraded my Money 2003 to 2005.
But my Pocket PC 2002, that was communicating without a problem to 2003 it's
not able to access Money anymore. I upgraded both, my PC and the Pocket PC to
2005, but I haven't found a way to synch.
What can I do?

Recording Merger
I've a merger that the wizard doesn't completely handle. BAC & MBNA merged.
BAC gave 1:2 shares + some cash. They paid CASH-LIEU for fractional shares.
Thus I have the following activity on my statement which I'm trying to record
in Money.
Before MBNA - 32.7068 shares
Now 1/3/06 BAC SHRS rec'd through merger = 16
1/3/06 MBNA Fee = $25
1/3/06 MBNA Merger = (32.7068) = $134.92 (I think this is the
cash part of the merger.
1/9/06 BAC CIL On 0.38284 @ 46.62010 = $17.85 (I think this is payout
of 1/2 the fractional share left after the 1:2 stock swap)

I have to agree with you. With the transaction matching, I can't figure out
what it uses to match downloaded bank transactions with-the amount OR the
payee.
the preferred payee listing should help SOME, but like me(and probably MANY
others), Wal-Mart is a store I shop at the most often for groceries,
household, etc.
Many times, the match amounts are different and the payee doesn't even LOOK
the same or use the same letters in its name. That one is hard to figure out
why!
My payee list was recently cleaned up and my bank download this morning
matched(or mis-matched) over 1/2 my entries and even attempted to match to a
reconciled transaction.
At least MS Money makes it easy to identify it when (mis)matched so we can
match it to something else or just make it a stand-alone altogether.
My vote would be for matching to look for amounts first and payees second.
That would greatly reduce the time attempting to rematch things.
MS MVPS-Anything we can be doing to assist this process when entering stuff?

Money can't sync a Certificate of Deposit (BANK VS INVESTMENT)
I have a certificate of deposit CD, held at Bank of America, setup through,
money that I update manually.
Recently, I setup Money 2006 to sync with Bank of America (California). And
low and behold it downloaded this account. Unfortunately the downloaded
account is a BANK account while the account that I created through MONEY is
an INVESTMENT account. Is there any way to merge these two accounts and
continue to get udpates on the balance?
Really, I would like the account to remain an investment since Money regards
CD accounts (wisely) as investments.

Money won't synchronize with my Etrade account.
For some reason I cannot figure out why Money 2006 will not synchronize with
my Etrade investment account. I have entered the correct account information
but it will not update. Any ideas as to what I can try to make it work
properly? This is extremely frustrating. Something like this should be easy

within an IRA account. I could record a sell then a buy I guess but my bank
facilitates "exchanges" where I can exchange funds between investments. What

Money 2006 works fine this morning. I open it back up around noon and

Every couple of months my starting balance gets way off.
Using the information located on the unofficial microsoft.public.money FAQ I
force Money to balance.
Today while balancing my starting balance was a couple of thousand dollars
off again.
I have several e-payment transactions that have not cleared yet. Should I
wait until these clear electronically or should I go ahead and follow the

Missing Investment Names
I have the same stock in two accounts listed with the same symbol but with
slightly different names by each broker. When updating from the brokerage
sites the Investment Verification pop-up window asks if this investment is
already in the portfolio with a different name. It is, but the pull-down list
does not show the name I use for this security or the names of other current
investments I hold in the portfolio. Is there a way to update the contents of
the investment names list? I have removed the positions and reentered them

Sales taxes are not correct.
How do I make the sales tax post correctly. The sales taxes are posting per
actual money received. They should post per total invoice. (This is per the
Florida Sales Tax office.) I have accounts receivable and I need to be able
to change the way the sales taxes are posting as far as sales tax collected

Budget in Money 2006
In Budget Summary, there are many options. I want to see a monthly
Year-to-Date, not Year-to-Date. In other words, I want to compare my YTD
actuals against YTD budgeted. However, I can not find such an option. It
only compares the YTD actuals against the Yearly budget.

Money 2006 is not worth the Money
First let me say that I am not a financial wizard. I do have some
investments and pay my bills on-line. I am a user of Money 2002. I finally
decided to upgrade to Money 2006. I can find very little to cheer about in
terms of functionality and human factors. I can not find any significant
functional enhancements. The Human Factors are less than "industry
standard." Simple things such as "Hide unused accounts" is buried in a
menu titled "Sort Accounts by." I was also hoping that there was a way in
2006 to hide unused categories, but could not find that capability. There
is no Help unless I an online; what kind of support is this? The Settings
Menu item and the included functions are somewhat oblique.
Why can not Microsoft make Money's Usability similar to other MS Office
products?
I will continue to play with it for a day or two. My gut feeling is that
I will reinstall 2002 or switch.

Hi, everything seems to work fine when 2006 converts my 2004 file. The

New User: Transfers between Accounts
After getting fed up with Quicken not being able to download the correct
information from my Schwab account I downloaded the trial version of Money
today. I must say that so far it is much easier to use with Quicken but I
have a couple of issues:
1. Is there a way to set-up a category that is not income or expense but
rather a transfer to Investment Account or transfer to Checking, etc? When I
view reports it is thrown off by these types of transfers.
2. Is there a way to change asset allocation categories to included
International equities, etc.?

Expenditure does not seem to go into correct catagory
Hello,
I recently financed 3600.00 for dental work. The method of finace is a
credit card valued at the total amout financed, payable over a year (0% for
the first year) . I wanted to assign the total amout to "health care:
dental" so it will show up on my tax form. (schedule A ?) in 2006.
First I setup a credit card account with 0 balance. Then I charged 3600.00
to the account, using Healthcare:dentist as the catagory. Afterwards I use
the speacial catagory "Transfer : Checking" to pay the monthly amount.
I see that the 3600.00 listed in the catagory "Healthcare: dentist" but if I
run an estimated tax report I see the total amout listed in the Previous
Year 2005 health care section and not in "Current Tax Year 2006" health care
section.
Q: Have I set this up correctly?

Missing transactions again......
*Sigh*
My Money 2006 Premium is losing downloaded transactions again. After
spending two hours on the phone with MS tech support in December and not
finding a solution I had to abandon my money data file with four years of
data and set up a new one. Ive spent the last six weeks getting everything
right in the new file.
Then this morning I open Money and it tells me I have 5 downloaded
statements to read. I open the list of accounts with statements, and my
checking account has (5) in parenthesis - indicating 5 downloaded
transactions from my bank. When I open the register there is only one bolded
transaction for review. Nothing new since Jan 31. Logging on to my bank shows
the other four transactions that have occured since 1/31. So Money knows how
to count and it obviously sees the transactions, but wont show them to me.
Its affecting at least 2 other accounts - the number of indicated
transactions for the accounts is going up, but nothing new in the register.
I'm so dang frustrated I cant even see straight!
My MS Money logs in with my passport so its doing this by 'background
banking" - Im not manually downloading statements. This stuff worked fine for
years until last December, and now its happened to me twice. Ive been through
the support kb and followed the steps (repair the file, delete temp internet
files, reinstall money) and nothing helps.
Anyone got any good ideas this time around? Im at my wits end. Im calling
support in the morning to get my money back (Ive paid twice now for a single
copy, but thats another story) or to get someone that can really go through
my file and help me.

Pocket PC will not sync
I am not able to sync Money with my Pocket PC. I have a brand new Treo 700w.
I had no problem installing the Money Pocket PC.
But when I run a sync it sits there for hours with a window popped up saying
"Reading device databases", and it will not sync.

When does MS typically update Money Tax Settings?
In past years MS automatically updates the Tax Settings (for Single,
Married, etc.) reflecting tax brackets, exemption/deduction cutoffs, etc.
for the current tax year sometime during the year. Does anyone remember
when during the year these usually appear? (Clicking on Update tax data in
the tax section to force the issue ain't doing it.) Or do you already have
correct data for 2006 (M05 or M06 users)? (IRS has released the data--see
instructions for making 2006 estimated quarterly payments.) I have M04 and
don't remember when 2005 data came in. So far I am using the Custom setting

If I have a Savings Account with $5,000 in it how do I account for the
money?
For example:
$1,000 is for vacation

ms money 2003 online setup
hello.
my bank supprt the direct online statement download function, however, the
bank name does not show up on the list of banks when i try to set up the
service.
the bank's web shows the instructions for this and you can see the bank name
on their example. in the example, it does look like a newer release of ms
money.
could it be only supported for new versions of money?

Settin Up Equity Options
I'm having trouble setting up equity options. When I set up the investment
and get to the instruction in the User's Guide that says "Under Create New
Investment, click Equity/Index Option", I don't have an Equity/Index Option
choice. I've tried the Index, Mutual Fund, Other, Stock investment options
but, when I try to "sell to open" a covered call, I'm told that option is not
available for the investment type.

Bill Calendar and Debt Planner? How do they work together?
Ok I have read all I could find but I can't seem to find anything
that explains how the debt planner and bill calendar work together.
For the explanation of what I am doing I will talk of only one bill. I
entered my Providian credit card in the bill calendar. It is also in
the debt planner that has me paying a different amount so I will hit
the pay off debt date. I don't pay my bills through money because my
bank doesn't allow that just downloading of the statements. I am
hoping when I pay the Providian credit card from my banks website and
download the statements to money that the bill calendar will know its
been paid and delete or cross out the bill showing its been paid.
Using it as a check list would be great that way one glance at the
calendar I'll know what I have paid and what still needs to be paid.
Will the debt planner talk to the calendar? I saw a setting on the
bill calendar to auto fill in my banks register a few days before
payment. I tried this once but it appears that when the statement
downloads it doesn't see the two entries are the same. What are the
keys that tie two register entries together? If it's the payment
amount, that won't work because the debt planner adjusts the amount
plus sometimes I want to pay more than I budgeted for. During one test
the bill was grayed out with a line through it. Not sure what I did to
make this happen.
Any help understanding how this all ties together would be great.

How to record sell of asset & see true cost?
I had bought a car 4 years ago on loan and some downpayment. And recently
I sold it. I had the following accounts setup in Money 2004 Delux:
1. Car Asset with only Opening Balance of $30,000
2. Car Loan account which tracked Principal and Interest amounts (the
loan is fully paid)
3. Auto category as Expense category with sub categories such as Purchase
Cost (downpayment), Fuel costs, Insurance, etc. All car expenses were
tracked under one of these sub categories.
I would like to record the sell of the car. Where would I record it and
how would I categorize so that I can get a 'true' report of the cost of
the car (including operating costs). Which report will provide me this
information?

Identifies separate accounts but duplicates transactions of one
After set up NEW ACCOUNT (Banking), Deluxe 2006 goes online and finds the 3
accounts I have at my institution. On â??Confirm Account Typeâ?? Money correctly
identifies the 3 accounts with their varying balances (only one account has a
balance above $0.00, so the other two are blank, so only â??Check Acct. Aâ??
lists a balance, which is correct) as well as their correct last four digits.
On â??Are you already keeping track of these accounts in Moneyâ?? I select No.
Money then lists the three accounts on its Home Page, as well as under
Banking but now the accounts with no balances have the exact balance of
â??Check Acct. Aâ?? as well as IT'S transaction history, and everything is being
tabulated throughout Money completely inaccurately. Hence:
Check Acct. A�� correct balance�.correct transaction history
Check Acct. Bâ?¦Wrong Balance, actually has that of Aâ??sâ?¦Wrong transactions,

system crash - lost MNY2004
My computer came with MNY 2001. MNY 2004 came from the MSFT website on a
trial, I downloaded and later paid for same. A system crash caused a fresh
install of my OS and MNY 2001. However, 2004 is lost except for 4 folders

Windows 98 & Money Deluxe 2006
I've been using Money Standard 2004. My operating system is still Windows
98. Any problems running a new copy of Money "DELUXE" 2006 which I
purchased(deal with taxcut I bought). I'm concerned before I load it as the
box doesn't list "W98". If it's ok, then how about compatablity of old data
especially since I had been using Money 04 "Standard".

Downloads Don't appear in register
Transactions from two different accounts indicated that they downloaded.
Both accounts indicate that there are items to review, but when I open the
register the items to review are not bold and as far as I can tell are not

Pass word Issue
I have Microsoft Money 2001. I have two machines desk top and laptop. On my
desktop I open Money program log in with password do my work , back up the
file. I am fine. Now, I take this same CD or USB drive to lap top double
click on it. I can see Money restoring the file. It asks for pass word I put
it in but it says incorrect pass word. I am baffled, How can i be working
with the same pass word in desktop but would not accept in Lap top. Please

Tax Software Report MSM Deluxe 2006
How do I get the "Tax Related Transactions" report and the "Tax Software
Report" to list dividends and reinvested dividends that are entered as an
activity in an investment account? The only dividends listed in these reports
are a couple of incorrect entries I made where I entered the transaction
directly into a bank account and chose "dividend" for the category. It seems
like the program does not recognize the investment activity of "dividend" or
