I download statements from Bank of America. I am able to successfully
download the statements (via Active Statement OFX files) without any
problems for checking and savings accounts. However, Money 2005 will not
download properly for my credit card account. When I open the OFX file,
Money 2005 waits for a bit (while the hour glass is on) then says that the
import was successful. However, nothing ever gets added to or marked as
cleared on my credit card account in Money. It is as though Money is
processing the statement but never really does. Again, OFX statements for
checking, savings, etc work fine (download and process correctly); only the
credit card statement doesn't. This all worked fine in Money 2004.

Any ideas on this and a possible solution? Or do I need to file a report
with MS Support?

Tom

Have you contacted BofA? I'd do that before opening an incident with MSFT.

Michael: I've done that, although I am not sure the people at BOA know what
is going on. However, the more I think about it the more I have to believe
this is a Money 2005 issue. I had NO problems downloading any Active
Statements (i.e. OFX files) in Money 2004. All file types loaded fine; only
in Money 2005 did the Visa account stuff stop working.

I'll wait a few more days, then I think I will have to file an MS incident.
BTW, how do we do this? I've done it before but it was a LOOOONG time again
and don't remember exactly where to look.

Nope, I haven't found a solution yet. I wrote the people at BOA and after I
explained to them (a number of times) exactly what was happening, I never
heard anything back. I tried another 'fix' I found out on this forum,
involving downloading the file, and checking to make sure any '&' were
really '&ampsd' (or something to that effect - I don't have the original
email here at work) - but the file looked fine. Again, after much thought I
really don't think it is a file issue myself, since every other download
from BOA works fine. It has got to be something with MS Money....

I've just been adding in the transactions myself and then checking online to
see if it has come through and if so, then marking it 'cleared' on Money. A
pain, but it works. I guess I will have to break down and file a support
request with MS, since I haven't done that yet.

Did you have any other ideas?? ;-)

I agree that you should probably send a request to money support. Pick
one bank card OFX file that you would not mind submitting. I would
create a new money file and only set up the Bank of America credit card
and see if it will import into the new test file. If you get the same
error then you have a very small set of files ( the money file and the
OFX file) that you can send along with your incidenet report. If it does
work then you might run salvage on your first file.

Art: Good idea, I think I will try that.

I have run the salvage (i.e. fix) option on my file quite a few times,
especially when the stupid thing just dies for no reason. Between not being
about to import this OFX file, and the fact that I have to keep cancelling
money because it is running by itself in the background (even though I have
background processing turned off) I am getting a little upset with Money.
I'd go to Quicken because I did use it a number of years ago, but I hear
that it is not that good either.

Hmmm... being a .NET programmer, maybe I should just start writing my own
money program?? ;-) I could put it out on the GoDotNet workspaces and maybe
get others to help me out with it.

Re: BOA Credit Card Statement not downloading by Tom

Tom
Mon Nov 15 07:56:20 CST 2004

Art: OK, I went ahead and set up a new default 'base' file (using
Virualization software) under MS Money 2005. Then I tried importing my BOA
credit card statement. It gave me the little dialog box asking me which
account this statement is tied to, then went ahead and imported the file
without any problem! Imported every transaction and they now show up in the
register!

Which leads me back to my 'normal' Money file. I think I know what is going
on but can't seem to resolve it. Basically, my BOA accounts show up with the
little 'lightning' bolt next to them, which I think says they are an
'online' account. However, I never do anything online with these accounts
except download OFX files directly from teh BOA web server. Therefore, what
I think I need to do is either (1) Disassociate my BOA accounts (or at least
the credit card account) with online setup and then either reassociate them
or just not associate them at all, or (2) Do something that causes the BOA
credit card account to again pop up that little dialog box during the OFX
import which asks which account this OFX download is associated with. If I
can get that far then I think it will re-associate itself with the credit
card account and all will be well.

However, try as I might, I can figure out how to dis-associate these
accounts - either make the lightning bolt go away or cause the credit card
account to once again ask me which account the OFX file is associated with.
I've fiddled around with various options and even tried some things that I
found out on the forum/web but nothing seems to work. Do you happen to know
the steps for this? Also, I assume that the lightning bolt means that the
account is online - do I really need this if all I am ever doing is
downloading transactions via OFX?

Thanks for any help.

Here is how I envision it, tho you would want to keep an extra back
up or copy until things are as you want them.

AccountList->ManageOnlineServices->[BOA]->StopUsingOnlineServices->OK
would disable online services for all BOA.

Then you could change the FI of the credit card to some other name,
and perhaps say that institution is not listed.

You might then reinstate online services for the other BOA accounts
with AccountList->ManageOnlineServices->[BOA] ....

Cal: I went to where you said, but there is nothing there regarding 'Stop
Online Services'. In fact, BOA shows up under 'These banks and brokerages do
not provide automatic online updates' and the services line for BOA says
'File Imports'. So I can't disassociate it this way. It's as though it
allows File Imports but has somehow mangled the online settings for my BOA
credit card so that when the OFX for that account is downloaded, it doesn't
update anything. What I think I need to do is remove BOA completely from the
Online Services screen (since I don't do any online updates except for file
imports). If I go to 'Specify where accounts are held' that is where BOA
shows up with the little lightening bolt. What I need to do (somehow) is to
move this acocunt to the 'Unassigned Accounts' area.... then I think it
would re-ask me which account does the OFX file belong to.

The bottom line is that there doesn't seem to be any way to disassociate an
account with online updates once you have set it up. Which seems silly to
me... Do you have any other things I can try. This is getting
frustrating....

One other idea, but see below:

So changing the institution did not work, because Money said it was
set up for online access?
