I've lost the ability to print checks from my primary bank account.
I've tried to repair my money file with Microsoft's program, but it
didn't help. I still can't print checks from my main bank account.
I have determined that MS Money 2002 is working fine, I can print
checks from another account, sooo... my primary bank file only is
corrupt.
Since that file is corrupt, would it do any good to buy a newer
version of Money? I would just be importing a corrupt file into a
newer version. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

Review your backup situation. If you don't have a backup from maybe
a month ago.... Note that when you restore a backup, you can Browse
to a location and pick a new name, as to not overwrite the existing
problem file, instead of restoring to the default location.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466 about using salv.exe to
try to make a repaired version of your file.

Among improvements are that Money Plus defaults to keeping the
latest 4 backups, and you can change that number.

Already tried, with no success.

Thanks for your reply Cal. I will buy Money Plus.
But I'm still wondering how to save the hundreds of entry's in my
current file. My latest backup (ther than the current one) is dated
2006.
Everything else about the file is good, just no printing capabilities
- no chance a newer version will only read the entries from my current
file?
TIA,
Ron

And what you tried was the Money 2006 method under the "Run the
Standard File Repair utility in Microsoft Money 2000, in Microsoft
Money 2001, in Microsoft Money 2002, or in Microsoft Money 2003"
heading?

I suggest that you download the free 90 day trial Copy your current
Money file to a different name, such
as Money08.mny, and let Money Plus convert that copy. Stay alert
during install to make sure the trial does not uninstall your Money
version. Expect a radio button where you will need to change from
the default. You should be able to run both versions, one at a
time.

If you decide to stay with the older version of Money, after trying
Plus, I suggest you do not uninstall the trial if you want to later
continue with Money 2002. Uninstall of Money Plus will make
earlier versions stop working also. That file association thing is
the thing that routes a QIF or OFX to the given version of Money
when you click on such a file. That can be changed without
reinstalling, but restore of a restore point or reinstalling would
be easier.

That should have been 60-day trial. See below:

Also, if you try the Money Plus trial and still have a problem,
consider using the Remove All Bills Data feature. This would
typically be for people who have experienced their Money file to
run excessively slow, but a problem in Bills could also cause a
printing problem.

To get some information within the program,
File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData
Read the information. Then click cancel.

Before proceeding, make an extra copy or backup of your file
in case you want to undo something.

The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably
want to add at least some of your bills back. This can be done
manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before
removing the bills.

A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills
afterward would be to go your register and selecting a
representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make
Recurring" (Ctrl+E). This would be especially helpful if the bill
is complex, such as involving a split.
