    - Calculating Rate of Return How do I handle employeer contributions to my 401K account so that these contributions are handle as or similar to dividend reinvest. I would like to try and calculate my rate of return assuming that the money that I put in out of my paycheck is a purchase or buy and all other activity is taken to be investment returns of various types. Also, how would I handle the fact that my employeer made automatic contributions for several months into my 401K before I made my initial investment.     - using money's budget i have sat here for two hour trying to create a budget for a small home owners assoc. i know all my catagories and how much i'll be paying them in the next year. i don't need my check register to do it. but i can't find where to change the date to tell money what account to look in and for how far back. the catagories i use in my check book don't seem to be the same as while doing my budget. its very frustrating and am tempted tp just use word!     - Money 2003 program updates ceased A "reminder" has been showing up on my M2003 Home page that reads, "Money has not received updated Internet information since 11/5/2003. Click here to update your Internet information now." When I "click there," the update sequence runs and says "call complete," yet the latest updated information is still 11/5/03. This seems to apply only to the Money software updates, as I'm getting bank and stock market updates OK. I'm running Money 2003 on a Windows ME OS, and I need some suggestions on how to fix this.     - Money 2004 vs 2003 Standard - Investment Tracking Hi... I am using Money 2003 Standard, and have purchased, but not installed, 2004 Standard. Question: after I received the package I noticed (in the comparison chart on the back of the package) that the feature "Track Your Investments" is checked for Money 2004 Deluxe but *not* for Money 2004 Standard. I have investment accounts (regular and retirement) with stocks and mutual funds, and Money 2003 allows me to record buys and sells, track historical prices and compute rate of return etc etc on individual stocks and funds. Should I infer from the comparison chart that this ability has been *removed* and is not available in Money 2004 Standard? It seems if that was the case I wouldn't even be able to open my 2003 file in 2004 Standard. In that case I would return the 2004 Standard as it would not meet my needs. Seeing as how you normally cannot return software if the box is opened, I would be greatly appreciative if someone could tell me whether the investment tools in 2003 Standard are present in 2004 Standard.     - Changing Starting Balance in Reconciliation I've been balancing my check book in Money for a few months now. I fell a couple of statements behind, and now when I try to balance, I am getting a message that the last time I balanced was 9/17/03 (which it was), but that I have an ~$6000 discrepancy in my starting balance. I'm not sure how that could be. I've looked at my Sep statement to be sure, and it does not reflect this. Two questions: 1. Is there a way to stop the balancing process without postponing (i.e. start over)? 2. How do I identify this discrepancy and what could cause it?     - How remember categories in msmoney 2004? After having typed in the category for an expense in the register and accepted it, Money forces me to retype the category the next time I click on other expenses with the same payee. Money should be smart enough to suggest/guess that category for that payee for all other register entries I edit. Is there a way to make it do that?     - MSN Portfolio Manager Doesn't Sync Cash Balance with Money 2004 Hi All: After working hard to get my Money 2004 to synchronize with MSN Money (thanks Mark...), I still have the following problem. My investment accounts which can be displayed by the MSN Portfolio Manager do not display the correct cash balance for my investment accounts. After the initial synchronization between Money 2004 and MSN Money, when I go to MSN Money/My Money and display the Portfolio Manager, my accounts were correct except for the cash balances were not transferred. (This obviously resulted in the account balances being incorrect.) I went into the individual investment Accounts Details and checked the "Track cash balance associated with this account" and manually updated the correct cash balance for the account. The next time I synchronized Money 2004 with MSN Money, if the cash balance for an account had not changed, it remained unchanged in the Portfolio Manager from the amount I manually had updated previously. However, if a cash balance in an investment account had changed since the last synchronization, the cash balance for the investment account was removed in the Portfolio Manager and the "Track cash balance associated with this account" had been unchecked by the process. Does anyone know what is going on here? Am I misusing this feature or is there a bug I don't know about? Bottom line is that the synchronization process returns incorrect investment account balances because it doesn't handle the cash balances associated with these accounts correctly. When entering checks in my register and selecting "Print this transaction" in the number field I must enter at least two checks before the "Print" icon shows up in the left hand column.     - trying to reconcile investment accounts I have just upgraded from Money98 to Money2004. One thing that seems to be missing is a way to balance or reconcile my investment accounts. I DO NOT want to do this by downloading the financials online. Isn't there a way to do this without using the online services?     - Upgrading from Trial to Deluxe I upgraded my trial edition of Money 2004 to Money 2004 Deluxe. I since reformatted my computer and installed the trial edition again, hoping that I could use the installation key that I have written down to upgrade again. When I run the trial version, I get a message saying that the trial has expired, then the problem quits. I do not see anywhere where I can type in an installation key. Can anyone help me out? In Money 99 when I manually updated a bill or deposit the word "Updated" appeared next to the updated item in the Bills & Deposits screen. This was very convenient and I used it all the time.     - Can anyone help with these two problems of incorrect entries and reports? Have not had a great deal of responses to my posted problems here and can not find anyone expert in Money to hire to help. It would be very nice to start this current year with these errors corrected and a clean starting point. Can anyone suggest ways to fix the following? Money 2004 Small Business 1. Under my customer list, I have an amount for unassigned credits which is not true. It says it is for a customer that is no longer a customer, but it actually lists a bank that one customer used to pay from and was never listed as a customer. The real customer's account is perfectly balanced. This amount is exactly a match to a deposit in my checking account and was used to clear several invoices - all for the same client. How can I remove this unassigned amount (or clear it) without affecting gross sales or my client balances? It will not even allow me to refund it, though that would not be an accurate way to treat this either. 2. I started using Money Small Business in the middle of the year and had transactions I needed to account for. For example, I had payments in my checking account that had already cleared, but no corresponding invoices to show the income. So I made invoices, created a clearing account to receive the funds so that my checking balance would not be affected, and got my income records right. Checking is fine now and gross income shows the proper amount. BUT under reports / business / accounts receivable, the Receivables by Customer Report shows all the proper balances, but the Customer Balance Report is off by EXACTLY the amounts that went through the clearing account.     - Money Express stops working I was running msconfig the other day and discovered a bug in my Registry which was stopping Money Express from running. Unfortunately I did not write the path down, but the problem was that the program was included in double quotes (Example ""C:\Program Files\Money\Money Express.exe"") To find this in your registry, search for Money Express.exe"" and edit the value for MoneyAgent so that it has only one quote at each end of the line (Example "C:\Program Files\Money\Money Express.exe") This one has been frustrating me for ages.     - Money 2004 and MSN Moneycentral Synchronization Crash Last week, I reset MSN My Accounts to start over from scratch. When I've done this in the past, Microsoft Money recognized that My MSN Accounts were gone and offered to setup Money for synchronization with MSN Moneycentral on the Money 2004 home page. Now it just offers to "Synchronize my Money data with MSN Money now" as if the Moneycentral accounts are still there. They aren't and when it tries to synchronize, I get a crash and Money 2004 restarts. Anyone else having this problem? Is it maybe related to the new MSN design changes of late?     - Processing imported QIF w/MS Money 2004 Deluxe I download a QIF format statement for a checking account and import it into MS$2004. All appears to go OK. When I go to the page to process the downloaded statement MS$2004 abruptly aborts with "An error has been encountered" message. I have run standard file repair on the file prior to import and no problems are found according to the log file. After the aborted attempt, doing a file repair will indicate that a problem was found with the internet options and was corrected. Attempting to use the repaired file I can not access the transactions in the file that the import was for. I have to restore backup file. I have cleared the cache and reset maximum size to 50MB. I can import the QIF that fails into a new account and all looks OK. So far it is isolated to one account and one financial institution. Other QIFs from other financial institutions import and process as expected. Other than clicking on the "Send error report to MS" option are there any know fixes or suggestions to this problem?     - Unmatched transfer transaction I have transactions that were in my recurring bills that were posted against liability (loan) accounts that do not show as credit against my bank account.     - Money 2000 password problem I have moved my Money 2000 file from one computer to another. (I copied it to a storage device and from there copied it to the other computer.) However, the password (which works on the original computer) will not open the file on the new computer. The dialogue box reports an incorrect password, though I'm using the correct one.     - Microsoft Money 2004 Standard - Financial Institution Removed OS: Windows XP Pro SP1a Microsoft Money Version: 2004 Money file: New (didn't bother importing 2003 file yet). Fresh clean reformat of Windows XP. Purchased Microsoft Money 2004 on Saturday and installed it onto my new install of Windows XP. Flawless. Set up bills etc in Money 2004 as well as accounts. Beautiful. Found a neat feature that I never noticed in my Microsoft Money 2003 Business and Deluxe version, which is the ability to use direct connect through my financial institution, Summit Credit Union. I set up this feature in money, logged on using my password and user id. Statement transactations were downloaded into my check register and balanced automagically. Talk about FREAKin cool. I'm impressed. Monday (yesterday) I did the Internet Update option to download all Money updates, news, and online statement information. I believe I saw a message that came back that said that my institution no longer offers this feature. I thought that was odd, but I was like, ok, it might be just a weird mistake. I then went to my account, and it pulled all the transactions. No biggie, as I will just try it again. I go to set up online services again within Money, and this time around, the listing of Financial Institutions that are listed in Money seems to mysteriously have removed Summit Credit Union. I contacted Summit Credit Union, and they have not (and don't plan on) removed this ability for Microsoft Money 2004 and older. In fact they have a relatively new PDF file on their website that explains how to use the direct connect features. I'm like, ok..well while I have your attention, let me check my system at work (i was talking to them from work this morning online) because I use Microsoft Money 2003 here. I went to financial online services, I found Summit Credit Union, and I was able to again, log on using my user name and passcode and match up my accounts and download transactions (which I didn't do because this is work, and I have work related accounts on this machine). So now Microsoft Money 2004 Standard at home has removed my institution as well as it's transactions, while my work machine with Microsoft Money 2003 can find them and lists them and connects to them just fine.     - [For Italians] Salvage utility not working on Money 2000 ITA? Sorry guys for posting a specific italian question, but as you probably know here in Italy we are stuck at localized version 2000 and apparently Microsoft no longer supports the product. Frustrating. Anyway Money 2000 does more or less what I need. Trying to add a new account I get the error message "Money could not write to your Money file. The operation could not be performed or another application finished this task before you. Please try again." (of course the italian version :-) ) I am trying to run the salvage utility with the command "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Msmoney.exe" -s <my file> but apparently Money starts without performing any repairing.     - a background program which will stop install of MS Money 2004 When MS Money installs a warning comes up to turn off fire walls and anti-virus programs. I hope that Microsoft monitors this board because today I discovered another program which will halt the installation: Bought Money2004 today and tried to install it and kept getting the message "Siservice.exe is preventing the installation....." I discovered that the offender was part of Spam Inspector by Giant Software. To turn off the offending program, siSpamFilterEngine.exe must be killed in the task manager **first** otherwise the server keeps coming back on.     - Downloaded transactions incorrectly merged-Money 2004 Maybe this is just an option setting, but I download transactions from my bank on a regular basis. On a regular basis some of the transactions are incorrectly merged without any option to change the transaction (as can be done when it is simply just a match). It is a little annoying since the transactions merged have nothing to do with each other than the amount of the transaction. One example was a charitable donation being incorrectly merged with an ATM transaction. Is there some option I'm not seeing or setting to prevent this from happening. Generally, I want the program to match the downloaded transactions; I just don't want it to merge them without my checking them first. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.     - Bonds in Foreign Currency I'm using Money 2004, and having a problem trying to enter bond purchases in a foreign currency. I'm doing so in a dollar based account. When I enter the bond as a new investment, I go through the process of marking it as an "other bond", and set the country appropriately. When I try to enter the price of the bond, it shows it in dollars. Online help suggests I should be able to right click on the price field and get a currency converter, but I only see the usual cut/copy/paste commands. I do, however, get a currency converter dialog if I hit F8, but it appears to think the bond is in dollars (it shows dollars to dollars, but no other currency options).     - Realized gain / basis How to "not display" old info ? In my normal use of Money 2001,2004 , I do not care about "realized gain" from years ago. For Money, the basis seems to be 1. add all the buys 2. subtract all the sells the difference is loss/gain. But if I sold all of a stock/fund in 2002 and just recently bought it back, I want my basis to be: what I paid for the stock/fund that I RECENTLY bought and now hold - Period. So regardless that I dollar-cost averaged every week for 3 years into x shares of Fidelity Value Fund , if I sold it ALL and THEN later bought y shares, my cost would be the price paid for the Y shares.     - Restoring Backup File to New Program I have been using Money'98 for several years. My new machine came pre-installed with Money 2004. I am tying to "restore" my '98 backup into my 2004 program but am not sure how to proceed. (I've already crashed my new system by tyring to install the '98 program over the '04 program!) After reading the backup file, the system prompts me to "Please choose the Location where you want to restore the file". I open Microsoft Money in my Program Files and the following list presents: Calcs, Media, Money to Pocket PC, System, Works.     - Bank Reconciling Starting Balance Discrepancy Ok, here's the problem...I got a new computer and started using Money on it last month. I reconciled the bank statement and everything was fine. This month, when I go/went to reconcile, it shows a discrepancy in the starting balance. Apparently what it is showing is last month's beginning balance along with this month's beginning balance (or ending balance of last month, whichever you'd like to say). I have tried changing the account balance and that does not solve the problem...how, then, do I fix this problem so that the reconciliation can be accomplished? Any help would be appreciated.     - Financial Merger I can not get past an error message of "Money can only record a merger if you purchased this stock before today. If you....."     - Balancing Check Book I am trying to balance the checkbook for the 2nd month. However, there is a discrepancy in the starting balance. What it appears to have done is kept the beginning balance from last month and the beginning balance of this month. How do I correct this problem in order that I may proceed with the balancing of this account? I have converted 1999 to 2004, but I cannot get my 1999
data for "Investments to Watch Holder." All I get are the
3 indeces, DOW, NAZ, and S & P. Yet all my watch
investments are listed in the investment update. I can't
pull them up and I can't add them to the investment list.

Does any one know how to fix this problem?
