Hi !

I would like to delete a transfer category in my account register. This
category appears when I open the special section of my account register.

The name of this category does not correspond to the name of my account in
my account list.

Help !

Thanks.

Delete the category? or delete the transaction?

For a transfer, the category would be Transfer, and the sub-category
would be the account at the other end of the transfer.

You don't say what product you are using. I like having dual
category:subcategory lists.

We'd love to help, but your question just doesn't make sense.

Some questions that might help us get on the same frequency: Are you talking
about something in a previously entered transaction or something in one of
the lists of choices when you are entering transactions? What is the special
section of an account register? Are you using M05/6? Essential Register or
Advanced? Are you using Transaction Forms?

Yes it does. He has a category called "Transfer:PTUI Bank," but he doesn't
have an account there. He wants to remove it from the category list, or fix
it so it says "Transfer: BLUI Bank," where he does.

To do this for expense and income categories, you go to Banking|Account
Tools|Categories & Payees. The list does not include Transfers. I don't know
if they can be edited, but since they can't be in the normal fashion, I am
leaning toward "You can't."

So, you are assuming that this is showing up in the pick list generated for
the category entry, not just "in the Account Register". Then the question is
why would the "Transfer:PTUI Bank" show up in the first place. We all know
that Transfer is hard-coded and not in the Categories table as we can see
it--and arguably not even a category at all. The places to Transfer to are
not hardcoded, either. They come from the Account table. If "PTUI Bank"
doesn't come from the Account table, where's it come from? Since the pick
list is generated dynamically from the Accounts table, if "BLUI Bank" is
there, why isn't it showing? That's why I was asking the questions I was
asking. Is it a Closed account? (Do closed accounts show up in these lists?
I don't think so.) Is this not the list we are thinking it is? Which
register is really in use? Where's the poster really seeing this? Common
Transactions? The transaction entry category pulldown? Is the file
corrupted? I still don't understand the OPs question.

My guess is that the OP made a mistake, like a typo, entering the account
information, so it doesn't reflect what he thinks it should. And the
category list is where he happened to notice the error.

Then it should show up in Account List.

Something in the list of choices in the special section; When you open the
account register and a transaction there is a special section different from
the income or expense sections. You find transfers to different accounts in
the special section. My list of accounts indicates FTQ and the special
section indicates FTQ (contributions) which is wrong. How can I change this
?? My Money version is 2006.

Thanks

OK. Now we are getting somewhere we can deal with.

Investment Accounts optionally have, and retirement designated (or is it
401k designated?) Investment Accounts must have, associated Investment Cash
Accounts. Money picks default names for these when it creates them on your
behalf by appending, say, (contributions) to the name you picked, say FTQ.
You can go to this account by going to Account List, clicking on the
Investment Account name (FTQ) and then clicking on the link at the left for
Cash Transactions.

You can rename the Investment Cash Account (see
http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=182). But you can't rename it to the same
name as any other account, including the base Investment Account. Depending
on the properties of the Investment Account, you can even delete it. But you
probably don't want to if the account can have any cash component.
