Money Deluxe 2006 hangs after successful install
I am unable to start Money 2006 Deluxe after installing. I had no
trouble installing the software. However, when I try to start it,
entire computer hangs. Nothing works. I have to do a hard reset.
One thing I noticed is that when the computer hangs, I am still able to
move the mouse and can turn the Num Lock on and off. Nothing else works
on the keyboard. There are no error messages in the event viewer.
I was on the phone with Microsoft support for 2 hours and even they
could not figure it out.
Any ideas ????

What does Money do with an IRA contribution year?
Hello All,
I have been using MS Money, including managing my IRA accounts, for years.
My current version is 2006 Delux. Yesterday I added a transfer from my
bank's checking account into my Fidelity (IRA) contibution account, and
Money asked me if I meant this to be 2005 or 2006 contribution...
My question is: what does Money use this information for? I don't see any
report where the year if the contribution is shown, nor do I see it
anywhere on the transaction?
I am curious about this now because I've been investing into an IRA as a
recurring transaction for a long time and it never asked me this question,
so I am wondering if all my previous data is labeled for the correct year
or not, but I can't figure out where in MS Money this information is
used/shown at all.

MS Money and BillPay broken for all account changes and additions
I just spent almost 2 hours on the phone with Checkfree and Money Support.
Thank God I had the sense to insist they were on the same call to avoid the
finger pointing. Both reps were good, but the bottom line for me is this.
One of my banks that I use with Checkfree (I use 3) required me to add 3
numbers to my account number on checks that Checkfree printed. It turns out
you can't change the account number within Checkfree on an existing account.
At their direction, I added a new account and deleted the old account. After
the proper transaction verification, I could not get the account to download
properly. It always created a new account and would never merge them. It
turns out that it is a known problem with no ETA on a fix. When BillPay and
Checkfree merged software in November, something in the Checkfree Web
interface is broken between MS Money and Checkfree. Nobody seems to own the
fix. Old accounts are grandfathered and work, but any new accounts or
changes to existing accounts will break the new accounts, and also seems to
break any attempts at billpaying through the other accounts.
I now have to revert to paper checks for everything, and I moved off that
about 10 years ago.
Microsoft said it is fixed with MS money 2007, but don't know if or when it
will be fixed in 2006, or if anybody will be notified when it is.....nice
customer service in my estimation. I've been a long time advocate of MS
products and MS Money in particular, but there is considerable difference in
their dedication to support of its consumer customers from it's enterprise
customers. And I work on both sides of that coin.
Does anybody know if and when the fix will be posted and if any

Setting up a paycheck, 401k account
I've got Microsoft Money Deluxe 2006 and I've been spending the last few
weeks inputting all of our financial data for the last year (all of 2005).
For the most part I'm done and I'm really liking Money alot. I have been
having some problems but those other problems will be the topic of another,
later post. For now, I'm hoping I can get some help with properly setting
up my paycheck's split transaction data and my associated 401k account.
For each paycheck, I'm contributing 12% into my 401k and my employer is
matching up to 3%. I have my paycheck set up with each line item --
federal, state taxes, etc, along with my pre and post tax deductions. If I
do not include my employer's matching line item then everything balances
out. My gross pay less taxes less pretax deductions less post tax
deductions equals my net pay. If I try to add in my employer matching in
there anywhere, it completely skews the numbers. Is it possible for me to
add my employer matching value anywhere? If so, where?
An associated question: for the line item for my 401k deduction, I have it
set up so that it counts it as a transfer to my 401k account (which I set up
as a seperate account in money). So that for each paycheck, I see an
associated transaction in the "Cash Transactions" view in my 401k account.
So unless I should set that line item up as something else (and I may very
well should as that is actually what my 3rd question below about), that's
all well and good but (assuming I didn't do something wrong) what I'm trying
to do is make it so that my employer's matching is added also. Is this not
something I'm going to be able to do?
My final question is this: In setting up all of the stocks in my 401k, I
went to the website of the company who is handling our 401k (Paychex).
Since the statements I get are only quarterly and since it doesn't detail
all of fund's purchases (date, price, etc), I figure I could just start off
with a single buy transaction using the date, number of stocks and vested
balances that are detailed on my online statement. This is all well and
good. It's showing totals matching the values those on the website. Here
is where things get sticky (and not only for now but also for the future).
If I go to the account summary view for my 401k account, it's showing not
only the total values for the stocks in the fund but also the total of the
contributions I made throughout last year. This is what makes me think I
did something wrong setting up my pacheck such that it automatically credits
my 401k as a 'cash contribution'. Did I, in fact, set my paycheck up wrong?
If not, how can I tell it that my cash contributions went into puchasing
shares in the stocks in my 401k fund? So that my account balances with the
totals I'm seeing on the paychex website?
I hope I articulated my problems and questions adequately. Any help you
guys can provide would be most appreciated!

Money Canadian version - no stock split feature
Unfortunately there is no deluxe version of the Canadian version of MS
Money which means that that there is no built in support for performing
"automatic" stock splits and mergers.

MS Money 2006 and Money for PPC
I have installed MS Money2006 trial version and microsoft money for Pocket
PC, Windows Mobile 5 operative system,device i-mate JASJAR. i can't
sinchronize both money data pn PC and PPC and all the time ther is window
with message "reading device databases". With Windows Mobile 2003 SE with
same softwares there was no problems. I'm using also ZoneAlarm Firewall. If

Problem downloading file
I've been downloading files to my money 2004 for a while without any trouble,
but since few days ago I get this message and I can''t download my
transactions any more. My account is configured in Canadian Dollars and my
bank is canadian.
File Import:

Can't install Money 2006 Standard
I purchased Money 2006 Standard over the weekend and tried to upgrade the
existing 2005 Standard I had on my laptop.
It prompted me to remove 2005, which it did, and the rest of the install
seemed to go fine. When the progress bar got all the way to the end, the
screen banner changed to "Installation is complete" but had the following
message in the middle:
"Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run Money. Try
installing Money again."
I have tried several times and cannot get Money to install properly. I've
also tried:
- installing as local administrator
- installing in Safe Mode
- installing as a brand new administrator level local user
- following KB articles to remove all Money registry entries and do clean
reboot
When I was cleaning out the registry, I did find several entries that I
could not delete or view ("access is denied"). I also found the following
errors in the setupapi.log file:

I am trying to track my mortgage in Money 2005. The loan is a few years old
and I cannot figure out how to show a loan intiation date versus the first
payment. In other words, the loan was on January 1, 2002 but the first
payment was not due until March of that year. As a result the payment is
wrong so the amortization is wrong also. How do I set the loan origination

Five suggestions to save money in 2006
Not as many people make New Year's resolutions as they used to. According to Stephen Sapiro of goalfree.com, only 45% of people will make a resolution this year. I installed Money 2006 and started it at which point it said installing
update. It got to 46% and stopped, now every time I start money it says
downloading update and under "Tools" "Alerts" it says upgrade in progress but

Import data to Taxcut
I've tried importing my data from Money 2006 to TaxCut but it says that I
can't do that until Microsoft updates Money, which is expected in January.

Unassigned value in split transactions in conversion from Quicken 2001 to Microsoft Money v 14
With Quicken withdrawing from the UK market I have taken the plunge and
upgraded to MM v 14.
There is a serious conversion issue with the processing of split
transactions where the first entry is converted correctly but all the other
lines from the split transaction generate "empty" split entries each with a
blank category and description with a zero value.
This leaves an unassigned value equal to the sum of the ignored split
entries.
I have two Quicken accounts my private accounts going back to 1987 which
generated a vast number of these unassigned amounts in split transactions
and a business account which is much smaller making testing of various
import options easier.
So far I have:-
1) Prefixed all the Quicken categories with "Q_"
2) Amended the default currency from Pound to British Pound
All to no avail.
Can anyone offer any advice on this problem?

Investment Income Calculations
I use M05 and am having errors in the reported income field for my
investments.
An example...
A fund has issued a long term capital gains distribution (LCG) and a short
term capital gains distribution (SCG). Both of these were reinvested. The LCG
was for $150 and the SCG was for $400. The income is being reported as
$1,100. It appears it is counting the distributions and reinvestments as
income. Shouldn't just the distributions be totaled so the income should
report $550. Also the price appreciation is showing as $900. Thus the gain is
now reporting as $2,000. This is not right at all. Shouldn't the gain only be
$1,450.

Catagorizing IRA Withdrawals
I'm new to Microsoft Money. When I withdraw money from my regular IRA
account and deposit the check in my savings account, how do I categorize the
money so it shows up as retirement income on tax reports?
The Transfer tab does not allow me to assign a category. The Withdraw tab
allows me to categorize the withdrawal as Retirement Income: IRA
Distributions, but does not add the withdrawal to the IRA cash balance, so I
can then transfer it to my savings account.

Restricted Stock Account (RSA) & Employee Option
I am having a hard time tracking my dividends. I have the RSA setup, but the
amounts don't balance. For example: I have 80 vested stocks at $21 each, but
money tells me its only worth $252. Now we went through a merger and some
dividends were paid and I have no idea how to track it, since it already
appears to be incorrect. On the Employee Option I gave up a long time ago,

Money 06
Hi,
I installed Money 06. Now when I click the icon to start Money 06 nothing
happens (at least I do not see visbile sign of any program starting ). I go
to the Task manager and I do not see Money 06 in the application tab, However
I do see msmoney.exe in the process tab. When I try clicking the icon again I

One last word to the wise: I post this once a week so some people might see
it and refrain from posting FAQs. I remember to do this because I also
backup my Money data file to several different locations and several
different media types once a week. I also assure that these backups do not
replace other backups but supplement them in case a problem goes unnoticed
for several backup cycles. Occasionally, I also test these backups to make
sure they really are. I recommend you do the same as soon as you are done
reading this. "Do you have a good backup?" is a frequent first reply to
problems posted here. Don't leave yourself in a position where your only

Handling share conversions
I hold an IRA in which, at one time two funds were represented. The IRA
management team opted to move, or convert, all the shares from "Fund B" into

401k Account Missing
In Money 2005,I have a 401k account that shows up in my portfolo but on the
Account List under Investment Accounts, just the name shows up and no
balance. I can't print a report for this account (it will not show up on the
list) or include this account in my lifetime planner.
When I go into Change account settings, the retirement box is checked, under
budget the "Include this account in the budget planner" is checked. The "use
this account for budgeted savings goals" is not checked and the system will
not let me check it.
I have repaired the file just to make sure all the connections are ok in the
system and it doesn't fix the problem.

Microsoft money could not update your account...
I have been using Money 2006 since mid 2005 with no problems. However, now
several of my accounts will not complete internet updates. The Quotes/news
and my American Express account update just fine. But my other credit card
(MBNA) and bank accounts (WAMU) will not update. I get the following message
with no further detail:
Your las call encountered an error: 1/21/2006 11:21 AM
Microsoft Money could not update your account. Please try to update your
accountagain. If the problem continues, contact Customer Support.
Do any of you know how to get more info on the error? I haven't had any luck
with the support site.

Is there still no option to produce a PDF file from reports? It would be a

Auto Assigning Categories
Is there a way to turn off the auto assignment of categories for downloaded
transactions in Money 2006?
We shop at Walmart, Costco, etc. where we purchase many different goods. We
split most of these transactions into multiple categories. Money remembers
the last split we have made and automatically assigns that split/category to
the next dowloaded transaction from that store.
I would rather assign cateogories myself and remove the "smart" feature of
money.
I would appreciate any input or suggestions.

Balance discprency
Hi
My money summary page is showing my check account balance at $4000 more than
it actually is. When I open the link to the check account the correct
balance is displayed.
The cash flow forecast is also using the incorrect high balance and as a
result it s all out of whack.
I've tried both options to repair the money file but it makes no differnce.
Any ideas?

Can't Get Automatic Updates
I recently got a new PC with Money 2005, and I'm not able to set it up to
automatically update when I open the program. I've read all the "help"
advice and also exchanged a few e-mails with the HP (PC manufacturer) support
group, but none of the advice fixed the problem. I must be overlooking some

Synching w/ the web
I upgraded from 2004 Standard to 2006 Standard on Friday. Since then, I have
had nothing but problems. The problems I see include:
1. Taking literally forever for my accounts to synch up...I just get the
'update in progress' message for ever, even when I shut down the pc and
restart.
2. If the updates are successful, I get two or three of every transaction,
transaactions going back a year or more, mutual fund holdings that were long
since disposed of.
What I have found through hours and hours of playing around is that these
problems only surface when I set up Money to synchronize with MSN's website.
If I don't enable that, the updates happen quickly and appear to be accurate.
When I do enable that function through the 'access your money data on the
web' option things get pretty strange.
At this point, I have restored from and old (and good) backup file to at
least get me to where I should be. I have disabled the synch up with MSN, I
have deleted all of my accounts from MSN. However, I had already done most
of this once and it didn't work.
I'm desperately trying to figure out how to get this done. I want to be
able to look at my data on the web, but only enter it in Money. Help?! Tag: Category Totals Report Tag: 203782
Message when Money starts
Money is unable to verify your Online sign in. Money will now try to log you
in using Work Offline sign in. Some online features, such as background
banking, will be unavailable, possibly because of network problems. To use
these online features, please close money and try to sign in again later.
Why do I get the above message? Is it due to the fact that MS doesn't have
one of my financial institutions in its listing of financial institutions.
Both of my financial institutions have online statements, but I am unable to

Troubles Getting Data from Navy Federal Credit Union
Is anyone having problems connecting to NFCU?
Since upgrading to 2006 several days ago, I have been unable to connect to
my bank. I've reinstalled, created new files, created new Passports, all no
joy.
Tech support tells me CashEdge serves as an intermediary, and that they may
be the problem.
Any ideas?

Old Fund data appearing in Home Page Reports
I am running Microsoft Money 2004 Standard Edition.
I have two accounts, both of which have one mutual fund in the account.
Both accounts have a zero balance. Fund #1 no longer shows up in the "Pick
Quotes to Download", the "Money Home Page Investment Summary" and the "Money
Home Page Best and Worst Performers". Fund#1 behavior is what I would
expect and what I want. Fund #2 does show up in the "Pick Quotes to
Download", the "Money Home Page Investment Summary" and the "Money Home Page
Best and Worst Performers". For Fund#2, I have deselected the fund in the
"Pick Quotes to Download" and the quote is no longer downloaded. Fund#2
shows up in the "Money Home Page Investment Summary"and "Money Home Page
Best and Worst Performers" using the quote of the last day that was
downloaded. Needless to say, the Home Page reports are not accurate, since
other funds are using a quote from today's date and Fund#2 is using a quote
from an old date. It does not matter where I have the account for Fund#2 in
an open or closed status, the result is the same. Does anyone have any

Short Sell and Cover Short transactions on the same date
Has anyone successfully entered a Short Sell transaction AND a Cover
Short transaction for the same shares on the same date?
Whenever I try to do this, Money complains that the share balance will
become positive because it is trying to put the Cover Short transaction
ahead of the Short Sell transaction. I suppose this is because Cover
Short is alphabetically before Short Sell, but I am not sure. I have
had this problem in all versions upto 2005.
Seems pretty stupid but, of course, this is not the only thing stupid

Recording a consolidation fund transaction in a mutual fund.
How do you record the transaction when you have mutual funds that combine (a
consolidation) I have a Scudder IRA and last year they closed one of my
funds and merged it with another fund. I have the number of shares
transferred and the price per share but I don't know how to record this. The
options given for investment transactions doesn't seem to cover this? Can

I'm using Microsoft Money 2006 Deluxe and i've the following problem:
When i'm trying to enter new transaction to a account than MM6
constantly ask about "is it the one-time scheduled payment?"...
As I understand MM6 match scheduled transactions with entered, but it
always give me this dialog (independ from manually entered amount).
