a total of over $1,000.00!!! In the third week, I had over $10,000.00
and it is still growing!!! This is now my fourth week and I have made a
total of just over $42,000.00 and it is still coming in rapidly!!! It's
certanly worth $6.00 and 6 stamps!!! I have spent more than that on the

Reclassify a mutual fund investment
I made the mistake of classifying a bond mutual fund as a
bond investment when I initially purchased it two years
ago. Therefore, money multiplies the price of the fund by
100 as if it were a bond. It has screwed up all my cost
basis info. I want to go back to the date of the original
purchase (Aug, 2001) and recategorize the investment as
the purchase of a mutual fund.
I can't find the area where I can Edit this transaction
and actually change the investment type of the original
investment. I could start again and change the name of
the investment but I thought someone might know the answer

Money unable to calculate correct mortgage payment
Hello,
I am new to microsoft money. I am trying to set up my
mortgage payments in this program, but when I enter the
data concerning my loan it never calculates it
correctly. It is a new loan so I thought it would be
easy since I am entering the data before I have made my
first payment. Does anyone have any suggestions in how

"Update Prices Online" works about 1 time in 100
I have 2004 Deluxe. It's the 3rd version I've had. The "update prices
online" has always been unreliable, but the last couple weeks it almost
never works. I get the "unable to connect to the quotes server" message.
The Money Updates part of the process always works, so Money is able to use
my internet connection.
I've seen posts here about problems with the service MS uses for quotes. Is
that still the source of the problem? Are other people seeing reduced
reliability of the online update?
On a side note, I really hate that canned message "check your internet

Income and Expense Reports (Money 03 Deluxe)
Hi y'all:
Have you noticed that if you are repaying for your car
loan, microsoft money does not consider the principal
amount towards that payment as an expense? Is there any
suggestion to make money understand it as an expense?

calendar question
Spouse gets paid (the major paycheck) on the 20th and me
on the 1st. So the "month" we work from expensewise is
the 20th to the 20th.
When we get the 20th paycheck we begin to pay a lot of
bills (even if they are not due until the 10th or 15th of
the following month), and then the final ones after the
1st.
The Calendar only operates on a regular calendar system.
I wanted my calendar to have the expense on the due date
(according to the company), but then when I pay it too
early MSMoney doesn't know to cross it off of the
calendar as paid. Any suggestions? Or am I just going to

Budgeting with 401k Disabled
In my money file (MS Money 04, Windows XP) I have added two 401k accounts
and an asset account. All of the transfers into these accounts showed up in
my budget and created an inaccurate picture of my spending (I consider the
budget to only track expenses as money that leaves my control and income as
new money that comes into my control.)
I know this could be solved by unchecking the "Include this account in the
budget planner", but this button is disabled in the 401k accounts.
Furthermore, this button doesn't even exist in my asset account. Does
anybody know why this is and what I can do to fix this problem? I really
want to understand budgeting in money and any help would be appreciated.
Also, I manually excluded all contributions from the budget and this is a
hack-workaround, but how do I reinstate them if I solve the first problem?

Budgeting (revised)
I have 04' Deluxe.
I am trying to accuratly budget a joint account that my
wife and I share. Income for this account is in the form
of transfers. I can not get Money to look at ONLY my
inflows and outflows in this joint account.
The problem is that Money see's the transfers but assumes
its a debt instead of a credit thus giving me negative
income.

Problems Entering a paycheck in 2004
I want to enter my paycheck...I go to Accounts and Bills,
Bill and Deposits List. I click New, then Paycheck. I
answer No (or Yes - doesn't seem to matter)to keeping
track of Taxes. I come to the Create a recurring deposit
Screen.
At this screen I'm *required* to enter Payee Details -
"Receive From*" Well..I'm receiving it from my
Paycheck!! Only options i have to choose from are the
accounts (credit cards etc) that I have setup! Why is
this happening? I've reinstalled the product. I did
have Money 2002 on my system before I installed 2004.

importing into register
I have successfully downloaded files from my bank into my
checking account register. I have one account that that
downloads my account info into a separate checking
account, not the one I intend. I save the file then
tried to import and it still imports into the other
file.
Bank support told me that the download may be matched to
the other account and to turn it off, then re-point it to
the correct account. I do not know how to do this. I
even closed the incorrect account and did the import and
it still imported into this account.

Adding a "unit" to the investment portion of my variable life insurance policy
Hello Fellow Money User:
I am attempting to track the investments made inside my
variable universal life policy, the investment portion
attached to the life insurance. It is an investment
vehicle similar to an IRA but with certain tax benefits
on the accumulating value . My investments within this
policy (held wth American Express Financial Advisors) are
not shares of stock in mutual funds traded with a
symbol. Rather, they are "units" of fund families
without symbols found on the exchanges. As a result,
Money cannot find a symbol for it so it cannot be added
and tracked.
How does one get around being forced entering a symbol
for the investment? I would like to track my investment
value in Money but the requirment of a symbol has stymied
me. Has anyone else encountered this frustrating aspect
when working with investments in their portfolios? Any
help would be appreciated.
If any Money programmers are reading this, please
consider that it would be cool if the value of this
investment could also be updated automatically in the
insurance planner. Currently I have to periodically go
in there and tell it how much the cash portion is worth.

After installing Money 2004, it will not allow me to open
it. An error message reports no state data. I have tried
different installation types and tried all of the MS
solutions without success. I can't even e-mail MS for
support because I can't open Money to get my product ID and
the webpage will not accept any of the ID numbers on the
disk or packaging. $90 and 6 hours spent on installing

balancing investment account
I am using Money 2003 Deluxe. I have an investment
account at datek which has two portions one for cash and
other investment. Let's call it Datek(Cash) and Datek.
When I reconcile my cash portion of investment account,
the investment portion will not be reconciled by itself.
How do you reconcile the investment part of this account?
Is there even a need to do that? If not, then why the
column is there and also you can manually set them to C
or R if you want.

All of a sudden the downloads from my bank show up as
statements to read but when I open the account it doesn't
show any new activity. I have tried manually downloading
the account updates but that doesn't work either. The
list of accounts continues to show statements to read.

I am completely confused on how to set up and track my 401(k) account using
the quarterly updates I get in the mail and how to tie that in with the
money that is taken from my paycheck. Also included in my quarterly
statements is my profit sharing and employer match.

Running asset transfers thru income statement
I would like to transfer money from an IRA asset account
at a brokerage house to a taxable account at the same
broker's but want it pass thru the income statement so
that it shows as an IRA distribution. A regular transfer
doesn't give that option in the drop down menu.
Must I run it thru a plug or cash account in a two step

Stay Far Away
Stay far away from Money 2004 Delux. I purchased the
online version for my computer and then a month later my
hard drive began going bad. I tried to access online
help before I lost my drive completely, but Microsoft
online help would not recognize my product ID (I checked
it three times). After reinstalling a new hard drive,
Microsoft will not help me get my product back. They
want my ID number (which I lost with the hard drive), my
product key (which doesn't exist since I bought the
software online), or $35 dollars for technical support
(which should come free with my warranty). I had money
2004 Delux and registered it with Microsoft, and they
will do nothing to help me (except charge more money). I

Balances negative - help!!
I accepted a downloaded transaction today and Money 2004 crashed on me.
When I restarted, I noticed that my checking account balance was
negative and several unsent electronic billpay transactions had
materialized. The only backup I had seems to not work (damn floppies).
Ive tried both a quick and standard repair as well as deleting my IE

Mutual fund transfer
Hi,
I consolidated my mutual funds into one brokerage
account. In Money 2003 I used the 'transfer account'
function to move the fund's shares to the broker
account. When I subsequently sold the fund, the capital
gains report showed that the sale was a 100% short term
gain transaction, which is incorrect as nearly all the
shares were held more than 1 year (many more then 5
years). Money was basing the capital gain type on the
transfer date and not the mutual fund share purchase date.
How do I correct this problem?

Recording Investment Fees
My 401(k) charges investment fees by deducting shares from
my account. My question is what is the correct way to do
this. I have read that you can simply sell the number of
shares deducted for the investment fee, and then use other
expenses and specify that fund and balance out the sell
transaction.
However, I have also read that you can simply sell the
shares for zero dollars and put the fee in the commission
field.
My question is which one of these methods is going to
correctly show my gain. And also, which one of these
methods is not going to mess with any tax liability.

Installing Money 2004
I am receiving error message 1316.a stating it cannot read
an .msi file. I have turned off all AntiVirus software

I am trying to upgrade my new hubby's software to money
2004. He has lost the money2001 cd so I cannot remove it,
and cannot do any online banking because everytime I try
it asks for the 2001 cd, even though I have installed

Money Login with 2 Passport Accounts
I am using MS Money 2004.
It asks to attach my Passport account to it so it can
take advantage of the web resources.
Now I want my wife to also access it.
Are you guys aware of a way to hook 2 passport accounts
to the same MSMoney database?
I would like to have her access our account information
with her passaport account as well as I can do with mine.

I was on the transaction history page for web banking.
When I attempted to download a transaction date range to
Microsoft Money
(which was opened and running), it appeared to work, but
nothing happened.
When I clicked into Money, the normal dialog box was not
there. I have been
using this function for over a year without any problems.
The last
successful download was 1/10/04.

Money Upgrade from 2003 Standard
Does Money 2004 Standard have the same portfolio tracking
capabilites for a 401K like Money 2003 Standard? Or does
it require the 2004 Deluxe? The comparison chart is
unclear and is confusing because it says the Deluxe is

2003 File Will Not Open In 2002 Version
I created a money file in Money 2003 with no password
protection. When I try and use it on a computer with
Money 2002 it asks me for a password.

Investment Transactions not appearing in Cash Transactions
The Cash Transactions register is missing items that are
present in the Investment Transactions register, causing
the month-end money balance to not reconcile with the
monthly statement from my brokerage.
I'd like to try deleting all my transactions back through
the most recently reconciled month, and downloading them
all again. Is there any way to do that?

Money Report Formats
Is there any version of Money that provides a better
method of report column customisation than by using;
1. Smaller fonts - only makes fonts smaller, does not
adjust column width?
2. Column Width - choosing narrow only makes the report
wider?
I'd like to be able to print reports fitted to standard
page widths and be able to accurately determine column
widths just like we can do in real programs.
I am using Money 2001 (New Zealand version with GST) and
am too lazy to change to a newer version unless report
management is vastly improved and GST is included.
