When I look at one of my "Investment Accounts", the Cash Balance when viewing
the "Investment Transaction" Screen shows ($1,139.83). However, when I view
the "Cash Transactions" screen, it shows a balance of $1,860.17. The correct
amount is $1,860.17. I've been searching for the problem for several hours
and am about to screem. Can someone please help?

Try opening Money with Start->Run and entering
"msmoney -s" without the quotes into the box.

If that does not help, let us know what program you are using.

I treid what you suggested and had the same problem. I have also tried to
"repair money file" and that did not work. I am running MS Money 2004
Standard OEM. Thanks for the help....

There is a problem that can occur in that version that involves
hidden transactions. You may also find that in the Cash
Transactions, when you change the View to show All, Unreconciled
transactions, the amount changes. It shouldn't

There is a KB article that discusses this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;838713&Product=mny

Upgrading to Money 2006 would be the easy way out. It would effect
the repair the fix on its own.

If you do have that symptom, and the above article's method is
overwhelming for you, I might have an alternative method to locate
the problem transaction(s) in Money 2004. Not sure, but then I am
not sure that this is your problem. I would wager it is, tho.

Note that you can install the Money 2006 trial without uninstalling
Money 2004, if you pay attention. If you do buy Money 2006, I
strongly recommend you get the CD. Money 2006 can be had with a
rebate, but Sams and Costco have it without the rebate.

The difference between the two figures is exactly $3,000. Do you maybe have
a transaction misdated for that amount. On mine, the "today's balance" on
the left side of the cash transactions screen doesn't include transactions
dated after today's date.

A lot of folks have answered this question already, but I'm not
sure I understand it. It's very common for the balance in the
investment transaction screen to show something different than
that cash transactions screen. The cash transaction screen is
showing the balance of the cash portion of the investment account.
The investment transaction screen is showing the balance of the
investment portion.

For example most of my investment accounts have a balance that
represents more than 90% of the total balance of the account.
Meanwhile the cash transaction screen shows almost no balance,
and frequently has a zero balance.

Unless you have the *exact* same amount invested *and* held in cash,
you'll end up with different balances on those two screens.

Where you should see appropriate balances would be in the account
summary. The sum of all the investments should equal the balance
in the investment transactions screen, and the cash portion should
match the balance in the cash transactions screen.

There is one time when these things won't match up. Any transactions
that I enter (either investment or cash) that are dated *after*
today, will not show up in the account summary. That screen only
shows account value up to today.

What he is experiencing is a difference in the cash balance itself on two
different screens.

If you bring up an investment account, on the left side of the screen you
will see "Investment Transactions" and "Cash Transactions". On both of
these views there is a "Cash Balance" figure which he says is different. It
should be the same because it only looks at cash, not the investments.

He is (hopefully) not talking about the "Account Value" line on the
"Investment Transactions" screen.

Upgrading to 2005 also fixes it -- and that's even less easy...............
