    - Corrupt Money file appears to create system instability Looking for some help and assistance correcting an apparently corrupt Money file that results in my laptop rebooting when I have Money open (but not immediately on open). Worked with MS support to try file repair (level 2 fails), then selectively deleted the accounts that appeared to cause problem (Amex and Schwab). Repair files executes successfully when accounts are deleted. Trouble is, I need them, and have been using Money as my personal finance software since 2001. 1) Is this a known problem? 2) Is is related to Money 2006, that I upgraded to 2 weeks ago? 3) How can I fix it? The file is from the mid nineties and the date time stamp on the file supports this declaration. Opposing counsel may try to call into question the validity of the file.     - Money 2005 stuck on "Update in progress" The account list shows all of my automatically updating accounts are "Update in progress." When I try an update, the stock and fund quotes update fine. None of the accounts (credit cards, etc.) update. Three successive message boxes appear - the first two only for a second. 1. Updating account information 2. Processing Service Updates 3. Update not complete. Then the update results show an error message for each account: "Microsoft Money could not update your account. Please try to update your account again." Or "Your account information is being updated, which may take a few minutes..." I have found numerous similar complaints on the newsgroups but nothing has helped so far. Including the "repair money file" menu item. I have even restarted. I am using Money 2005 Premium 14.0.125.1105. Thanks for your assistance.     - budget not tracking a category correctly I've set up a category and set up the budget to track it. But for some reason, the "thermometer" at the bottom of the check register is only keeping track of certain debits from that category. For instance, for this month, it says I've spent $350 of my allocated $600 in that category, but in reality, I've spent over $400. When I double click the thermometer to see the itemized debits, some are missing. But when I go back to the check register to see if I've categorized them correctly, I have. Is it possible the subcategory is throwing it out of the category? Often, when I'm recording the transaction, I'll change the category that Money automatically assigns it to the one I've set up.     - Money is limited to one credit card account per credit card company. My wife and I have seperate american express card accounts (not 2 cards on the same account). On the web we have separate login ids and passwords to Amex. Money seems to assume and only allows one logon id per financial institution for automatic downloads. So I can set up my account for automatic downloads. But then I cannot set up her's. Is there any way around this limitation?     - Money 2006 premium Upgrade I currently use Money 2004 Std A couple of days ago on lauching Money there was an offer to upgrade to Money 2006 Premium at a price about $12 (after rebate) lower than usual....I think after rebate it worked out to around $37.95. This offered wasdue to expire at the end of September. Anyway, I clicked on the link and started entering my information but was then distracted by something and did not complete it....no big deal I thought...I'll do it later. Now when I launch money I can only see in the announcements area an offer to "Upgrade to Money Deluxe now". Does anyone know how I can get back to the original offer?     - Cannot set up online services for multiple accounts in the same financial institution Hi I am using microsoft money 2004. My spouse and I hold different accounts at the same financial institutions. We want to set up online services so that each of our accounts get downloaded automatically. However, MS money online services manager allows only one login ID per financial instution. Is there a workaround? Is this feature available in later versions of microsoft money.     - Failed Login - Passport info cannot be verified. Just bought Money 2006 Standard (Canadian Edition), and installed the program without difficulties. However, I am unable to login to Passportâ?¦prompted: â??Your sign-on information could not be verifiedâ??. I can log in to my Hotmail account, or any other online element requiring my passport.     - Pay Bill Download Algorithum Hi, to avoid confusion, I am starting a new thread on questions that I posted on 3/22 and 3/24 on this subject My wife and I use Microsoft Money 2004 to keep track of our finances. We both set up checking accounts, one checking account for my wife and another checking account for myself. We both use our bank for automatic Bill Payments (Pay Bill) and have run into a problem when the banks transactions are downloaded into Money 2004. My wife created automatic Bill Payments for companies that she makes reoccurring payments to and I created automatic Bill Payments for companies that I make monthly payments to. The bank assigned numeric numbers for Payees (i.e. the first Payee #1, the second Payee #2,â?¦) for each company that my wife created an automatic Bill Payment for and did the same for each payee that I created an automatic Bill Payments for. The problem is that my wife''s Payees are different than my Payees and the bank makes automatic payments to these Payees but when the data is downloaded into Money 2004, the Payees become interchanged. When I download the bank transactions to Microsoft Money 2004, Money does not differentiate my payees from my wifeâ??s payees so when I try and reconcile my account, it includes some of the names of my wifeâ??s payees and when my wife reconciles her account, some of my payees appear in her checking account. I have looked at (opened) the Money OFX.DLL file but was unable to make sense of the contents of this file and guess that this is a mapping / algorithm problem? I sure would appreciate help so that my payees are downloaded to my account and my wifeâ??s payees are downloaded into her account.     - Adjust Shares Hi All - yet another one of my questions: My employer recently changes 401k providers and in the process I lost the ability to go back and see the purchases that were done from my last contribution. In other words: I have a 3 year history of the 401k in MS Money, and now I have my new positions on the 401k website, but I am missing one set of transactions which would make my Money balance out with the website. What's the best way to account for this? Can I just say in MS Money: here's what my balances now are, enter some adjustment?     - No Unread Statements, but Statements to read? Hi, After I download my statements from Fidelity and another similar institution, I get a page with the results of the download. At the top is a caption which tells me how many unread statements I have. There is a column to the left labeled Unread which may have an arrow pointing to one or more statements. Sometimes, even though the page caption says their are no unread statements, there are arrows in the Unread column to one or more accounts, and occasionally, there are in fact transactions when I review the individual account.     - Investment activities and tax reporting I have an investment account. There are some transactions in it which correspond to 'Activity = Dividend'. Their amounts are 'transfer'ed to a checking account. In the checking account, I see 'Category = Transfer From : investment account'. These transactions cannot be added to a 'tax line'. The problem is that it keeps creating additional backups even though I have it set to only keep the most recent 2 backups. Thanks you, Bob The way to save the ofx files is to open a folder in Explorer, go to Tools - Folder Options, File Types -- scroll down to the OFX file, click on advanced, and then click on "confirm open after download". This will give you the choice of opening or saving the file. If you want to view it, opt to save it. To send it to Notepad, open the "sendto" folder (Start - Run - Sendto will do that), right click in the folder, select new - then shortcut - then enter "notepad.exe". Go back to the folder where the ofx file is located, right-click, send to, select notepad. I am not quite sure what you mean by open a folder in Explorer, go to Tools - Folder Options, File Types -- scroll down to the OFX file, click on advanced, and then click on "confirm open after download". By Explorer do you mean Internet Explorer? I did a search for OFX and found an OFX.DLL file which I tried to open with NotePad and when I opened it, I got gobiligoog.     - ameriprise one account and money 2006 for the life of me, i can't seem to get ms money to pull down my ameriprise one account transactions. i called ameriprise, and they said the account was set up correctly they gave me the ms money toll free number :-( when i click add account, i choose investment, and then ameriprise from the list of institutions, it then throws up a dialog box saying that i'm already tracking ameriprise accounts with the account xxacctxx, is the new account tied to the account xxacctxx? i answer yes (i am tracking other accounts at ameriprise, and i'm using the account xxacctxx) money then tells me i should perform an update to my account (i'm assuming that is the little opposing arrows symbol in the upper right hand corner of the ms money screen. when i do that, it doesn't say it found a new account and would i like to start tracking it. i have tried creating a new .mny file, money can't find the ameriprise one account (though it finds the other accounts) i have tried removing online access to all my accounts, and adding them back. no luck anyone else have an ameriprise one account talking to ms money 2006? jd Tag: Cannot get Money 2006 to Install on initial boot up Tag: 207420

    - Cant open my money98 file Hi, i wonder if anyone can help. I just did a total reinstal of my computer and instaled money98 which is the programme i use. However it is not opening my money file. After searching in your excellent website i came to the conclusion that my money file is corrupted as sample.mny opens normally. I tried downloading the money-repair.exe tool but when i opened it into a separate folder and clicked on repair.exe the message 'cannot find file msvcr71.dll' came up. Any ideas how i can procede?     - Rename a payee -- why not? I'm using Money Standard 2003, which seems to work pretty well overall. I named a couple of payees poorly when I started -- I named one payee Providian Visa Gold. Now it's a Plantium card; Providian upgraded the card for me. The name is now confusing to me when I pay the bill. Apparently if a payee has ever been paid electronically, it can't be renamed.     - M2004 - tax export shows no IRA contribution. Doing my taxes and looking at my export info, and the checkboxes to include, my IRA info in Money shows as $0.00. To perform the deposit each year , I transfer money from my MMkt to my IRA MMkt. So the Category displays " transfer from". How to have Money recognize these transfers as IRA contributions ?     - M2004 - Reinvest LT CapGain tax consequences Just looking at cap gains for a sale and one of the transactions to acquire some shares only shows the proceeds - no cost basis. Why would that be ? (The entry is a one-liner "Reinv LT CapGain" not LT CapGain Dist and then a Buy) The distribution appears as part of line 2a of 1099 so if I sold it at same price - my gain is ZERO , not the total price. So if I had $10,000 worth at $10 per share, then got $1000 in LT CapGain Dist and I then sell it at $10 per share, I did not make " an extra $1000" - why listed as gain in Money reporting ?     - M2004 - Cap gains reporting That screaming you here is me doing my taxes and looking for data from Money 2004. No cap gains show up on the "Tax-Related Transactions" summary, so I checked categories and Capital Gains show under Investment Income - and I can't change anyhting about it ( boxes are greyed out). Why is it UNDER Inv Income ? Is that something I did or comes that way ? I tried to associate it with LT Cap Gains and Money says 'Nope - can't do that' ! Played a bit and then thought I'd align Cap Gains to Schedule D. My only option to mess with the Schedule D has to do with " Form, Line # ? " Shows 4 options - collectibles, sale of a business, etc How do I get this program to tell me : HOW MUCH DID I HAVE in Dividends and Cap Gains last year ? And of that how much goes on Schedule B vs Schedule D . So that I can compare my cost basis of my sales to Fidelity's reporting. Why is Cap Gain income not even mentioned on the TAX REPORTS options in Money (2004 Deluxe) ? I checked report options. Anyone been here already ?     - Spending by Category Report I'm having trouble with the report. I have a category "Auto Expense" with subcategories for insurance, gas, maintenance, etc. On the report, I just want the total for Auto Expense to show up, not each of the subcategories. Under "Customize" and "Categories" tab, when I uncheck the subcategories and leave "Auto Expense" checked, nothing shows up in the pie chart. If I check each of the subcategories, then I get a separate slice in the pie for each of these. I want to see what my total automobile expenses are!     - Unable to download new transactions in Money I am unable to download new transactions from my investment broker in Money 2006 Premium. It downloads all my positions, and they appear in the ofx file, but there are no transactions, even though recent transactions are listed on the broker site. The initial download (to create the account) is fine, and includes both transactions and positions. But after I import transactions from another Money account, and then download again, only the positions appear in the ofx file, no transactions. So my question is, how does my financial institution know which transactions to send? Can I set that manually in some way? I have already asked MS support for help and from my broker, but so far no luck. They have just sent me in circles, asked me to import, export, repair, etc. etc. and so far nothing has worked. If anyone has an understanding of how money determines which transactions to receive, please let me know. I think it might be the key to getting this working.     - Match Duplicate Accounts doesn't work? I just recently upgarded my Money 2004 to 2006 Deluxe. To take advantage of new features, I started setting up the online services for my checking account. I was able to have Money establish a connection w/ my bank and login w/ my supplied username and password. Then I got to the part where Money asks "Are you already keeping track of any of these accounts ..." - Yes - No - I'm not sure So, I select Yes because I have indeed already set up that account (and have many years worth of data in it!). Then I click thex Next buton which takes me to the "Match duplicate accounts" screen. The problem is that there are two radio buttons - This is a new account. - This account is the same as:This account is the same as ... But the 2nd radio button (This is the same as...) is greyed out/disabled; I cannot select it. However, I have noticed that if I start Money 2006, then open Internet Explorer, I am prompted to sign-in w/ my Passport account in IE.     - Problem with investment in US$ with EUR as base currency Hi, My base currency is EUR and have made investments in US$ and other currencies. Money makes all the conversions perfectly at first, and then after somtime converts the amounts of the interest and dividends received to EUR, hence giving all wrong totals, as the exchange rate for the interest rate and dividends cannot be changed, ( or at least I don't know how to do it). Is there any other way to achive this. Below are the transaction details to see the behaviour. EUR USD ACCOUNT BUY ON 15/07/2003 1 UNIT @ 7500 USD exchange rate 0.9734 value in EUR 7704, CORRECT. At today's exhange rate 0.82720 value of 7500 USD IN EUR IS 6203, Hence the loss is 1501 eur. correct Adding interest received usd 247 on 15/07/2004, USD 256 ON 15/07/2005 and USD 282 ON 15/07/2005 we have 8285 USD WHICH IN EUR is 6853 WHICH GIVES A LOSS OF 851 EUR, which in USD is 1028,THAT'S CORRECT. My problem is that after some time money updates on its own and changes the values of the interest received in USD to EUR, hence changing the value on its own to 864, but keeps the symbols correct, all values for buy, interes and totals show US$ but the value is wrong, it should be 1028. I've checked that the base currency is EUR and the account currency is Us$, and the investment is in US$ and the country of the investment is USA, Ive also tried to repair the file but no change.     - Can't get Money 2006 Premium to download upgrade I purchased and downloaded the premium edition of Money 2006, installed it as per instructions, logged in with the same passport as I used to purchase it, imported my existing money files and exited it. Then I ran it again told it to go ahead and download the upgrade files.... it just sat there at 1% for over 2 hours!! I'm on DSL so I know it's not my speed. I've tried the steps others have mentioned elsewhere here, setting my intranet security settings to low, turned off my anti-virus and firewall (Trend Micro PC_Cillin Internet Sceurity 2006) and rebooted my machine, created a new user with Admin rights. Restarted Money, told it to create a new file, logged in with the correct passport... and still NOTINHG!!!!! I've dropped almost $70.00 on this thing and it won't even let me do a simple "Find and Replace" until its "Finished the upgrade...." To top it off when I try to go through the support site and submit a support request the Microsoft PID Sniffer can't find my program ID/Serial number. When I try to enter it manually it tells me it's not a valid number!!! It's a great Catch-22, I can't get the program to run and I can't get Tech support because the program to HELP me get tech support won't work either!!! Has ANYONE found a consistent workaround?????
