I recently backed up my Money 2005 file, so i could reformat. After
re-installation, i am unable to restore this file, it brings me all the
way through (choose file, input password, choose restore path) and
where ever i choose to restore the "My Money" file to, i get a message
that the path is invalid, or the file im trying to create "My Money" is
read only (how could that even be possible, if the file doesnt even
exist yet!"

Anyways, id really appritiate any help, it contains all my Account
info, Investments, Tax stuff. It would be a really rough blow to have
to re do all that.

I have searched the Knowledge base, and the responce to this problem
does not solve my problem, nor make much sense at all.

See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=177. I hope it makes more sense. If it
still doesn't make enough sense for you, I'm not sure what more we can do to
help. Are you sure your backup file was a good one in the first place?

And are you sure it was the backup of the current money file and not one
made of a prior version, ie 2004

Also, you can restore the backup file by going to your my documents folder
and clicking on the backup file My Money Backup.mbf What happens when you
click on that file. I also recommend that when you reinstall money, have
both the backup and money files in another folder, let money create new
files completing the installation and first use, and then replace the two
files with the ones from before the reinstallation.

Sorry, missed that you are talking about 2005. You have to install the
program completely, after you reopen the program, it will tell you that
there is an update that is necessary to bring your system up to date. You
have to allow that to download and completely install, then the next time
you open the system, it will tell you that it needs to backup and create new
money files for you. After all this is done, you can replace (or click
open) your previous file. I have done this several times as I have moved
from XP home to XP Pro to XP x64 to Vista during this time and you need to
go thru ALL the setup and repair steps before using your old file.

Maybe yours do, but mine have only opened when I reinstalled the version of
money that it had been created by.
