I know some people won't agree with me but I've gotten to the point, in only
one week, that Money 2006 has to be the buggiest software I've ever
encountered.

I've been running Money 2002 (OEM version) since 2/02 and still use archived
files from my prior Money 1997 (OEM version). I have never had a problem
with it. It does everything I need and want. I found it 100% dependable. I
decided it was time to upgrade to Money 2006 Deluxe. Bad decision!

I've spent the last week trying to fix the following: Can't get the backup
files to save in the same directory as MyMoney file; Can't change the number
of backups from 3, on both hard drive and CD drive; When shutting down Money
and within minutes attempting to re-open it, receive message that Money is
still running. This went on for ten minutes one time. I find it very slow
in responding to commands. I'm constantly looking at the hour glass waiting
for the next page to open. I could go on but I think I've made my point.

I've uninstalled Money 2006 and re-installed Money 2002 from the original
OEM CD. It's running perfectly.

WDS,

You are so right!! Money 2002 is the single best version ever published. I
bought every version up to 2002 and tested every version since, including
2006. All subsequent versions have a bug in the budget reports having to do
with investment accounts that absolutely prevents me from using them. And
each new version after 2002 has interface changes for the sake of change not
improvement, bloat, advertising, no useful new features and new bugs. And
they are slower than 2002.

I intend to use 2002 forever unless MSFT changes their ways and produces a
superior personal finance tool instead of an advertising layout that
automatically expires essential features after 2 years. Or maybe I will
switch to Moneydance if and when that program equals the performance of
Money 2002.

Money 2002 can still be purchased on ebay or Amazon for those who would like
a real upgrade instead of 2006.

I upgraded from 2000 to 2004 and found that the manual entries for asset
allocations on mutual funds were no included in any asset allocation reports.

I just upgraded from 2005 to 2006 to find out that they took away the tools
to compare 2 loans in the house center. I do not understand why. I wonder
if advertisers wanted that feature out. I feel like instead of this program
getting more sophisticated with financial tools it targets the lowest common
denominator of people who just want basic financial tools. I did find
financial tools from pine-grove.com that help where Money does not. I think
Money should buy their product and put it integrate into their product.

I just tried upgrading from money 99 to Money 2006, Money 2006 will not read
the Money 99 files. The microsoft documentation claims Money 2006 an ready
files from any previous version of Money, what a crock. Microsoft's advice
was to export all accounts as from Money 99 in .qif and improt them into
Money 2006.Of couse, you cannot expot loan accounts and this completely
screws up the import. What a piece of junk...

Does this fit your scenario?

"Money 2006 cannot convert a Money 98 or 99 file if you are running Money on
a Windows 9x OS.
It has to due with a potential security hole in the msjet35.dll (So Money
2006 no longer ships with that DLL)

Options for user:

1. Upgrade Windows to XP

2. Step upgrade to Money 2000 - 2005 and then Money 2006

3. Do the conversion on a different - XP - machine and then move the
converted file."
