I want to get full-blown, two-way OCX, "work directly with my accounts" MS
Money support from a bank.

According to the MS Money website, both US Bank and Bank One provide this
two-way level of support. According to both bank's websites, they do not --
they only let you download & import your data into Money.

The online service reps for both banks can't seem to understand my question
or give me a straight answer. So I'm hoping actual Money users here may have
some experience with both banks & can tell me.

Thanks!

MS Money works GREAT with BANK ONE. I just load up MS Money and all of my
accounts (5) get synced in the background. Most of the time the auto
reconcile also. The bank balance is also available. The bill pay feature in
MS Money also works with Bank One bill pay.

5 stars. Go for it.

Similar to what "LPA" said about Bank One, two way works fine for my US Bank
accounts (checking, savings and credit card).

I have no problems with Bank One 2 way. Works great. With US Bank, the
transactions sometimes get repeated day after day, even though I've accepted
them already. Also, US Bank charges a monthly fee to use with Money, I
believe it is around $4. This is in addition to ANOTHER fee for Bill Pay, if
I understand it right. I plan to cancel the US Bank when my free trial is
over, and just download transactions manually from their website for free.
Please correct me if I'm wrong on the two fees.

I use US Bank 2-way and it works almost perfectly. No fees to me including
bill pay service. Min Bal in all US Bank accounts of $10k to avoid all
fees. One big + is they do not take funds out of account till check
actually clears!

We signed up with online banking with Bank One way back when they used to be
called NBD. At the time they gave us a free copy of Microsoft Money 97 just
for signing up.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a total joke. If you used their online
banking feature to transfer money from your savings account to your checking
account after 1 PM on Friday, the lazy bums wouldn't process the transaction
until tuesday -- a whole four days later! I have no idea why this could
possibly take so long since all the numbers are merely in a database anyway.
But, it did.

The software was also rigged up to do this extremely annoying thing where it
would attempt to directly dial the bank's phone number in Chicago every time
we would try to connect. Of course, we aren't in Chicago so the locally
dialed calls would not go through. (Thankfully the same number in our area
code was not in use, because that person would have gotten a lot of hang-up
calls from our modem). After tying th is stupid number a couple of times the
program would finally give up and try dialing the 1-800 modem number. I
tried for months to figure out how to get the thing to ONLY dial the 800
number since the other one would obviously never go through. But, it would
never let me do it. All the settings were greyed out. The bank told me that
they had configured it this way intentionally regardless of how stupid it
was, and the fact that we'd have to wait several minutes before the stupid
thing would connect while it pointlessly dialed the wrong number every
single time.

I seem to recall at some point shortly before we closed our account with
Bank One, they sent us some notice about having to upgrade to the "new"
online banking system which would connect over the internet and require a
newer version of Microsoft Money. We had a hard time getting registered to
use this thing, as the registration server kept asking for account numbers
only to say that our former NBD information was all invalid, and the bank
didn't know what we were talking about when we called to complain.

I have been much happier ever since I switched to the local credit union,
even though I have to download their crappy QIF statements with the Payee
and Memo fields reversed.

With Bank One, the service provided depends on the state you are residing in
(mainly because of the way Bank One expanded by buying out various local
banks etc..).

In Ohio, I do have access to bank balances, transfers, bill payments (which
are now free) through Bank One using 2-way connections.

Try setting it up in Money 2004 (you'll need your account #, usually the ATM
card #, and password that works on Bank One online web site to enter into
Money).
