    - Download Stock Quotes I an running MSM03. My system use to be set up so that I could download stock quotes whenever I downloaded my online accounts. Now I have to go to customize accounts, restore defaults and then update. This is required each time. Is there a way that I can update the quotes online each time without having to default each time.     - Memorize transaction. Once I payed 100$ to "good sam" and recorded it in the register. Since then whenever I get a downloadable transaction of 100$, money puts "good sam" as the payee (even though I earased it long ago) I keep changing it to "ATM Withdrawal" But Money does not learn. how do you tell it to assign "ATM Withdrawal" when ever the Memo is "ATM Withdrawal" or the amount is 100$?     - how screwed am i? lost data hello group - can anyone give me any feedback/advice? i have an old pc and use money 99 i have been using money religously since 1998 with account activity going back to 1987. i love it and it has helped me accomplish many of my financial goals. but i am one of these nuts who keeps track of my accounts so closely that i will even categorize a penny found on the street. well i needed to reformat my hard drive and re-install the operating system (virus?). i kept multiple backup copies of my money file on the slave hard drive and on one set of floppy disk. somehow in the process my pc now does recognize the slave, i think that i accidentaly reformated the slave as well, and money says it cannot restore from the floppy backup set (2 disks) saying that the floppy is corrupted? it looks like the data is on both floppies, but money cant open it and i cant even copy it to another drive. i havent removed the slave drive to see if anything is salvageable off of it yet. what should i do next? if i lost it all, i guess its not the end of the world, i will just start fresh, but i am bummed and will never be able to restore the cash account. hindsight is always 20/20, but what i should have done was kept a few more floppy sets around and verified that they would have opened in a new file in money. also, i should have printed the totals of my cash account by each year sorted by category so that i could re-create it in summary form. thanks in advance for any advice - Chris Tag: Sub Accounts in Money 2004 Tag: 182500

    - Record spin-off and "This operation cannot be performed" Hi Folks, I've never had any problems with MS Money 2004 and file corruption. But I own some Motorola stock, which recently had a spin-off of Freescale Semiconductor. When I try to record this special activity "Record a spin-off" and diligently enter all of the information, it always results in a dialog box with "This operation cannot be performed". When I click the More Info button, it takes me to a Web page with very general instructions like: Product: Money ID: 34 Source: mnyob99 Version: 12.0 Symbolic Name: errUnknown Message: This operation cannot be performed. and an explanation of "Usually caused by a corupt file" (MSFT typo, not mine). Problem is, I've run the repair tool on this file and no issues were found. I do not believe my file is corrupt in any way, I just believe Money is choking on this particular transaction. 1) Has anyone else experienced this problem? 2) Is there any known workaround, other than manually figuring out these individual transactions? Note sure if it is relevant, my MOT stock is only in one account, but it has been transferred across two different accounts within Money in the past. Thank you in advance.     - Money File Size I have been a user of MSM for many years. At the beginning of each year, I try to archive the previous year's data to make a more manageable sized file. My data file is now at 20,000 kB. My account consists of a few closed accounts, multiple banks, savings, checking, credit and retirement accounts. It also includes savings and college funds accounts for my kids. My question is, What can I do to make this file smaller and more manageable. If I remove the kids' accounts to another file will this help and what is the easiest way to do this? Is there a way to start fresh and import only those active accounts to make it smaller but not lose the data needed for day to day account management? What advise can you provide?     - M2004 ads for M2005 I've been using Money 2004 Premium for a little over a year now, and I am quite pleased with it. After reinstalling Windows XP Pro this weekend (again) I reinstalled Money 2004 and got my backup file loaded. Very first thing I did was disable any services or startup programs associated with Money, because I don't need it on all the time and I don't like my computer doing things that I don't tell it to do. So I go to download my bank and fund info and at the same time I download the latest Money Updates. Well, and here's where the question is, just how the **** is an advertisement for Money 2005 on my Money 2004 Account List page an UPDATE? And more specifically, how do I remove this unwanted and unasked for intrusion? Because, as it turns out, if I can't remove the ads you can be absolutely sure I won't ever by a Money product again.     - Report "Spending by Category" reflects charges but not credits MS Money 2005 Successfully uploaded two years data. While enjoying the pie chart graphs, I noticed that "Gifts" (expenditures) reflected all charges from my credit card (for Gifts) but did not reflect the return and credit received. For example: Gift Expense CAMERA Purchase $299.95 Gift Expense Camera Return ($299.95) Net "Gift Expense" -0- If I look at the Pie Chart (and underlying details) "Gift Expense" is $299.95 -but- If I go through Banking>Categories>Detail Transactions I see the Charge AND the Credit. This is correcct! In short, it appears that the Pie Chart is factory-setup to look at only charges (debits) to "Gifts"? Is there a way to correct the chart reporting?     - Balance on Account List does not match balance if I view all transactions Recently MS Money 2004 seems to have flaked and executed some Bills and Deposits for 2005 and caused my account balance on the account list to not be correct. If I view the account the balance was also incorrect if I only viewed unreconciled transactions. After reading http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838713 Methods 1 and 2 did not fix the problem. I then exported the information into a loose QIF file and read it. It appears eight transcations were automatically executed for their next dates in 2005. They did not show up in the account but I could see them if I chose "Go to Payee:" from the Bills and Deposits screens. I could then void each of the transactions so their amounts would be zero.     - Problems When i try and log onto Money deluxe 2004 it requires me to get online everytime - there used to be a button that let me skup that option, but now it is gone. I heard you have to download something to fix that but dont know where to go. I also always press "remember my passwords" but everytime i have to enter it.     - new user login problem using existing Money file. I moved my home computers to a Windows domain with domain-based logins. Previously, I accessed a Money 2003 file on the server from a machine-specific login. Now, when I open that file under my Domain login (and it does open fine, no permissions problems) I can't see my accounts, transactions, etc. (Thank God I didn't nuke that machine account!)     - Matching a transaction to Multiple Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has figured out a solution to this one... I go the bank and deposit a few checks. At home, I record each of the checks because their from different sources/categories, etc. Money downloads a lump sum desposit from the bank and now I try to match to the different transactions. I match them up, and accept them all and so far so good. Until I try to update the accounts again, and the lump sum shows up again. Any idea how to get Money to realize that it downloaded that transaction already and I accepted it? BTW I'm using Money 2005, but have had this problem for many versions.     - Strange problem I buy my gas at Arco. When I enter Arco as the payee (or of it is placed there by Money, because it is in the payee list) Money 2005 crashes.     - Problems Balancing Checking Account-Wrong Opening Balance or date range I have not previously had problems balancing my checking account wis Money 2004. Tonight when I went to do so, it gave a much different opening balance then the closing balance from the previous bank statement, when it balanced o.k. In fact, for some unknown reason, it was a month behind, said it wanted to balance the statement of 10/31/04...which I dutifully did again, after correcting the opening balance. That opening balance did not match any enf of month balances, even though eveyrthing balanced o.k. previously on 10/31/04. (This might be part of where things went wrong). Then when I balanced 11/30/04 statement, it told me my starting balance was incorrect, and that my account balance was off by 702.04. When I accepted the suggestion to make an adjusment of this amount it did it twice. One debit of 702.04 which it called "Starting Balance Adjustment" and 1 credit of the same amount which it called account adjustment, but both were dated 11/30/04, even though the starting balance adjustment should have applied to the balance as of 11/1/04. Of course these two bogus entries cancel each out. The net result as of the last entry on 11/30/04 was to agree with the bank statement, as it had the previous month, and maybe everything will be fine next month. But why did it tell me the starting balance was wrong, when it was satisfied with the same amount as the ending balance the month before? It appears to me that it was attempting to balance a statement beginning 11/30 and ending 11/30, and that perhaps it got confused about what the last statement date was on which the account was balanced. As I said, I know I had balanced the 10/31/04 statement previously, but when I began my balancing act tonight it insistred that was the date to it wanted balance, and the opening balance was all wrong. That seems to be where it got messed up. It did had RECONCILED all downloaded transactions after 11/30/04 up through 12/8/04, which never happened before again suggesting it was confused about what time period was being balanced.     - Money crash on statement download Very recently, if I download a bank statement as I've done for years, I get an immediate "cannot read memory at address xxxx and Money shuts down. It also corrupts the data file and I have to delete the mny file, then open Money and restore a backup. Last night it made me go back to the sample file provided with the program in order to get rid of the memory exception shutting down the program as soon as it was started. Using OFX file download.     - MS Money 2005 "Is Already Running" message I have Works Suite 2005 and run Money 2005 s part of it. I launch money seperately and not from withinn Works Suite 2005 and it launches ok. But when I close Money 2005 and then try to restart it it comes up with the message "Money is already running" and won't start up. The only way to get Money to restart is to reboot the PC. I have tried this on two different PC's (both run Win XP home with SP2 and get the same issue on both.     - Money 2005 Reports I use Money 2003 and am happy with it. However, I would like to see a report that shows year over year comparisons. By that I mean compare my expense categories for November 2004 against November 2003. I can't find out if that is one of the reports available in Money 2005.     - Same day buy/sell It appears that downloaded sell transactions are being processed prior to buys transactions on the same day for the same security. This causes Money to add shares which put the account position out of balance buy the amount of the sell transaction. This requires the position to be corrected manually. Any chance of a fix?     - Imported but apparently not MSMoney 2005 Win XP I'm having a problem with the import feature. I downloaded an OFX file for all 3 accounts at my financial institution. I used File, Import and it asked me to confirm accounts 1 & 2 but not account number 3. The first two imported perfectly. I looked at the file and sure enough the details for account number 3 were in there. So then I exported account #3 only and tried importing it. It just comes up and says "import complete". I checked the first transaction in the file a meal at Pizza Hut and I can see it hasn't imported into any of the accounts in the "you have n statements to read" list. My total account balances is not changing so obviously nothing is being imported. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? I assume that something exists in the file that MSMoney doesn't like so it is ignoring the whole file.     - Account Setup Temporarily Unavailable OK I decide to wipe the slate clean on my 2005 trial and deleted my problematic account that was not showing current transactions. When I went to set it up it started buy has hit a glitch. The bank name is now appearing in my account list but is asking me to provide sign in information so I click that link and it takes me to the list of banking institutions and highlights mine. I click next and it gives me the error message, "Account Setup is temporarily unavailiable. Please try again later". This is gone on all day. I have another account listed in my list from a different institution that is updating fine. Seems strange. I went to msn. money and Yodlee to see if I could set them up there and both are working.     - Money 2004 PPC Continually Syncs with ActiveSync 3.71 I have a Dell Axim X5 (Mobile Pocket PC 2003) with Money 2004 PPC and ActiveSync 3.71. All of my money accounts syncronize perfectly when I sync up with ActiveSync on my PC. Once Active Sync has completed synchronizing my Pocket PC and PC, Money in Activesync still displays "1 file not synchronized" and continually tries to sync the file.     - Product confusion (cont.) Further question to my earlier post: Is this correct: MoneyCentral changed to MSN Money. Then Money changed from free, to a purchased product. The free version no longer supports downloads from brokers and many of the charting options. To get broker downloads and many charting options, I need to purchase Money 2005. Is that correct?     - Money 2005 Duplicate Downloaded Transactions I finally got my Bank of America account transactions to download through online services. My only gripe is that old transactions which have already been downloaded on a previous day are being re-downloaded along with new transactions every time I perform an update (I do this once a day). When the old transactions are re-downloaded they are matched with existing transactions again and I have to re-accept the transactions. Should this be happening? I thought that Money's logic would prevent old transactions from being downloaded again or at least save me the trouble of having to accept and match them again. Also, shouldn't Money be getting the latest and greatest transactions from my bank(today's transactions preferably but at the very least yesterday's transactions)? It seems that my downloaded transactions only go up to 2 days ago. I know that Yodlee provides the direct services for Bank of America. Is this an issue with Yodlee?     - Money 2005 Deluxe, MSN Money Sync and msmoney.exe process Have had two issues. When I exit Money, apparently it does not shut down the msmoney.exe process because when I go to restart the program, I get a small dialog box saying the program is already running. If I use task manager to kill the process, I can then start it. I do have Money set to back up on exit, and that seems to run fine, if that matters. The second, more troublesome was trying to use Money to sync with MSN Money on line. I ended up with very strange duplications of entries from 2003 on (hav history going back to 1996). I deleted everything on MSN Money, restored a back-up, tried again (twice.) Again, same thing. I have since discontinued trying to use this feature since the 2005 Money for Pocket PC is finally out, but all three be able to work together? Extremely frustrated with Microsofts online support, no help or helpful response.     - Product confusion I am confused. Several years ago I began using MoneyCentral to manage my investment portfolio. Then it changed to Money. I set up everything to download my investments from my brokers and fund managers. I used some of the nice carting features. A few days ago I logged on (after several months of inactivity). I can see my portfolio, but there appears to be no links to my brokers or fund managers, and the chart options are minimal. What happened?     - Money 2005: Fidelity: Capital gains distribution appears as divide Hello, When I receive a capital gains distribution on a mututal fund on my fidelity account Microsoft money shows this in the account register and in the Portfolio as dividend. I do not have this problem with Etrade for example. Also it seems that Dividends from Fidelity sometimes come in later than the reinvestment-purchase and this causes Moeny to "add shares" which after the Dividend is registered leads to a "remove" shares so the total number of shares is equal with the number on the account. However that leads to confusion in the Portfolio manager which then does not show the cost basis correctly any more. What is wrong and how can I corect that? Is the problem perhaps with Fidelity? No way to setup subaccounts, but if you post back with a brief example
of what you're trying to do, there could be alternatives.
