    - Money 2006 SLOW Money 2006 just creeps. Money 2005 creeped. Money 2004 creeped. I've used Money since 1998 and have had every annual version. I will not archive (though I have tried). Repair does nothing. Like a previous group user Billy (whose strings in 2005 seems to have gone noplace) I believe a financial program should be able to hold multiple years of data. What good is trending if I have no data lol? Anyway - sometime after 2000 Microsoft went to a new database look and feel behind Money I believe. Since then - it's just gotten progressively slower. Excessive CPU, Excessive RAM. I have broken down reasons and durations a million times - but it boils down to just poor programming. I'm a geek and have new equipment. Throwing hardware at this is not going to fix the root causes I'm afraid. Now one could argue that the Money versions only slowed for those of us adding transactions, history and size to our data files. This would answer why people new to the app don't understand our frustration? My file is about 25mb. Very large compared to the sample file Microsoft support always has me test with. I have like 30 bills set to go out monthly - epay. I don't use the portfolio piece - although I did turn off updates. I don't use budget (and wish I could subtract it totally) - I have always made extensive use of bill pay. and I have my matching setup to work great - but like another use - when I start to do something like download or send transactions - I might as well take a coffee break - it's gonna be a matter of minutes before my screen changes. Overall I think I've tried everything. Tech support is useless - I've thought of going to Quicken. The file conversion pain may be the only solution - or do I wait for 2007 to fix the world (when Microsoft) doesn't even acknowledge folks like me have a problem?     - Money 2005 Delux: discrepant balances Help Request: The balances in two views of my investments disagree. One view is Account List sorted by Account Type; the other is Portfolio View. Both list the same balances for each of the accounts but the total in the Portfolion view is much higher (and unfortunately incorrect) than the view in the Account List (which is correct).     - transactions without saved payee missing from report I am a treasurer for a charity and have been using money to track the accounts (because I foolishly believed that it was better than paper) I have a customised money cashflow report that I need to show all transactions, so I do the following: 1. select all categories (click on select all button) - this is on the category tab 2. select all payees (click on select all button) on the payee tab But I have just discovered that for a transaction where I chose not to add the payee to my list of payees that it is missing from the report. In otherwords I can only report on transactions for which I chose to add the payee to the list. To be clear the transaction has a payee "Mr Smith" but the list of payees does not have "Mr Smith" so the report does not show Mr Smiths transactions. This is a diaster! So my questions are; 1.     - Inaccurate values on monthly budget report I am currently experiencing a problem where Money is displaying an inaccurate value in the "transfers out of budget accounts" section of the monthly budget report. The budget itself shows the correct value as does the transaction. However, the report shows a value that is TRIPLE the correct amount! I read the fix regarding changing the category of a transaction that is displaying improperly in the budget, but this is a transfer and, thus, does not have a category.     - Double Entry on Second Download - Money 2006 Deluxe I am getting multiple entries for the same transactions downloaded from a GM Card MasterCard credit card company. I've contacted the credit card's support people and they were quick to blame the Money software but could give no recommendations on how to solve the issue. I am not having this problem with a number of other credit card suppliers and banking institutions. What happens is I have previously downloaded a transaction and making another download a few days later. The previously downloaded transaction is downloaded again but with a new date which now has a date a few days different from the original. In order to get the correct balance, I have to manually delete one of the entries. The monthly statement has always been correct but the downloads are becoming an aggravation.     - Entering Retroactive Invoices or Expenses I've just installed Money 2006 Small Business, including linking my checking account. Since I've been holding invoices and expenses until the software arrived, I'm now entering previously dated invoices and expenses so I have the entire year 2006 in one place.     - MS Money 2006 Deluxe and Memory Problems -- Windows ME Anyone else using MS Money 2006 Deluxe on a Windows ME platform?? Does anyone have any idea why this keeps locking up my computer?? I have tons of memory. I have a memory manager installed. I did discover that this thing was trying to get current market info -- I disabled that. I do not have direct access to my bank -- they're not up-to-speed yet. Any other ideas why this thing locks up near the beginning of the program opening?? Thanks.     - US banks not available for on-line set-up if user located outside I am located in Belgium. I have downloaded and installed MS Money 2006 (US version - 90 days trial version) for the purpose determining whether I can use Money to keep track of my US bank accounts (Citibank and Fidelity, incl. investment and 401k). I use Windows XP incl. all SP and security updates. When I try to set up US accounts for online use, I get to the point where Money searches the name of banks which permit an on-line information exchange. Rather than displaying the list, I see a response, "information temporarily not available" (for the last three days). I have tried to disable the firewall of my home office router and to change the "Regional settings" in Windows (changing the location from "Belgium" to "United States"), but this had no effect (at least for a few hours after the change). (I did so on the basis of the thread reproduced below). I have no other connectivity problems with the the Microsoft site and I can access my "passport" account without problems. Can anyone suggest a way of setting up US bank accounts for online use if the user is located outside the US?     - Investment names vs. preferred names You can set preferred names for payees, but in my portfolio, I'd like to name the investments with the real name and not the abbreviated name. Example, Fidelity has "Fidelity Low-Priced Stock" and that's the name I want to use but when I download the transactions, it comes down as "Fidelity Low Pr Stk" so I do not get any matches.     - MS Money 2006 doesn't show an ePay that I entered I just entered an electronic payment into Microsoft Money 2006 Premium. When I did I got some odd behavior. First, it gave me a confirmation box saying that it had submitted the payment. Next it put me back into the same dialog box to enter the electronic payment, but for next month (August), not this month. Third the electronic payment doesn't even show up in the account's ledger. Fourth I got a message box saying that the account was out of sync and that it would be corrected once I got out of MS Money and got back into it, or something to that effect. I did get out of MS Money and got back into it, but I still don't see that electronic payment in the ledger and the Bills Summary page shows that I don't owe until August. What's going on here?     - Contacting Money support - hold time While manually updating my prices for last week (when price server wasn't working) and running a report for June, I noticed a Frequent Flyer Miles item as an option of the report . I didn't know I could track FF miles, so I clicked HELP - and entered - Frequent flyer - no hits. I noticed a " contact us " link in the bottom of the now useless help window so I clicked it. It brought me to the money support page - I clicked M2006 and got here: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&prid=9009&gprid=321298 I saw that to chat with someone , the wait time was 12 minutes, 49 seconds. Hmmmm I had never used any of this - interesting. I went back to the kitchen for a few minutes and when I returned. the hold time was: 12 minutes, 49 seconds. I left that internet screen open . It's been about 20 minutes - guess what the hold time is: You're right - 12 minutes, 49 seconds ( yes I've refreshed, closed/reopened - still 12 minutes, 49 seconds) The point of this: if you ARE ever holding for live support , don't believe what it says on the screen - I know that USUALLY it's a guess, but in their case it seems a VERY poor one. Depends on avg call vs " the guy on the line now". I just tried one last time - now it shows Wait time: 25 minutes, 38 seconds - seems more like it.     - DNS Configuration Gidday. We have a customer running a several Windows 2000 servers. The site has recently connected via a VPN to the international offices and are in the process of migrating many services to them. Initially however there is a requirement to access servers across the WAN using DNS name resolution. I have configured the current LAN DNS server on the DC to forward requests DNS to external DNS Servers. DNS Order 202.27.184.3 (ISP's DNS Server) 155.250.19.111 (Companies International DNS Server's) 202.27.184.5 (ISP's Secondary DNS) Now my problem is that if I set the ISP's server as the top forwarder I can ping. www.google.co.nz and resolve it successfully. However if I try to ping a internation company server say rcweb.company.de, I receive Unknown Host errors. I can change the DNS order to be 155.250.19.111 (Companies International DNS Server's) 202.27.184.3 (ISP's DNS Server) Under this scenario I can pint and resolve rcweb.company.de, however can no longer resolve www.google.co.nz. So there DNS server is not automatically dropping to the next forwarder entry as required. I have attempted changing the the DNS timeout from 5 seconds to 1 with no change.     - Having trouble keeping MSN Money Sync Working I really need some advise on this Money Synchronization Update problem. I have been reading this forum, but it doesn't look like anyone has had the exact problem that I've had. So after spending all day Saturday trying to solve this problem on my own (and messing up my Bill Pay schedule big time), I am looking for ANY other ideas. On every Money update my Call Summary Messages have the error message on MSN Money Sync " UPDATES TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE" which ALSO causes my SEARS account to not work/update as well. I have no other problems updating my other accounts "Citi, Chase, Credit Union." So here are the steps I have taken so far (found on the MS website): 1)Disable MSN Money Sync under Tools/Settings/Acess Data on Web 2)Disable MSN Bill Pay under Manage Online Services/Stop using MSN Bill Pay 3)Re-enable MSN Money Sync (And all works well... MSN Money syncs... I get the check mark on the Call Summary Messages page. It seems fixed. ) Then I have the message to Update Now to renable MSN Billpay. So I re-enable MSN BIllpay by clicking on Update Now. MSN Billpay is now renabled. However, after doing this, the MSN Money Sync is back to the same error message as before "updates temporarily unavailable". IF I try to set up my Sears accout after I re-enable MSN Money Sync, BUT BEFORE re-enabling MSN Billpay, then I am able to do so. My Sears account will setup, recongize password, and download transactions. But once I re-enable MSN Billpay, Sears account updates stop working as well. Therefore it seems to me that I can setup and update the SEARS account when MSN Money Sync is working, but not after it stops working. I also tried to UNCHECK MSN Billpay when I UPDATE NOW to see if MSN Sync would work, but I still didn't have a successful MSN Money sync. I really wouldn't care so much if MSN Sync didn't work, but I REALLY want my Sears account to update. I have also run the Quick AND Standard Money Repair with no change to this problem.     - Money 2003 - cannot archive transactions when business-related I'm using MS Money Deluxe & Business Edition 2003, almost all accounts are set up as personal, however since I do independent contracting I also have a "business receivables" account containing various invoices. This is the only account I have assigned for business use. When invoices are paid, payment is usually deposited into a personal checking account, which is balanced / reconciled every month. The problem relates to archiving the old stuff - I know that Money will not archive transactions that take place between accounts (i.e. transfers) if only one side of the transaction is reconciled. In this case, there are tons of old transactions in the personal checking that did not get archived because, even though they're reconciled on the checking side, they apparently are not reconciled on the "business receivables" side. I had always assumed that in my invoice list, when I select "receive payment" on an invoice and fill in the details, it automatically reconciles that side of the transaction. Apparently this is not happening. Since "business receivables" isn't a typical asset or bank account, I can't clear transactions or balance the account in the same manner as I would with those accounts, so the archiving is incomplete.     - Unwanted Stock Split I loaded Money 06 today and notcied that one of my stocks, which I have tracked for over 6 years, had lost half it value. When I checked into it it looks like for some reason money has a small "s" after the price in each transaction and the number of shares I purchased was half to ture amonut.     - Items to review(19) - none are showing Ok, I didn't change anything that I know of. My MsM donwloads directly from my bank. THe past couple of times when I update, I see "Items to review(19 )", yet they are no where to be found in my register. I have set the option to see all transactions (not just last 3 months), but I still cannot see an y of the items. This happens for all my accounts, not just one. Has anyone else seen this?     - How do I get my legit MS Money back? Several months ago I bought and installed MS Money. I had been working along OK until I had PC issues this week. I had to reformat and reinstall everything. I tried reinstalling the MS Money Webinst.exe that I saved, but it keeps telling me that it is a trial version and will not install. I am a legitimate owner of an MS Money license. I am looking for my receipts but cannot seem to find them. But I can verify my identity and the fact that I purchased it if I can find the right person or website to contact.     - Error with imports and manual transaction entering. When i tried imported a bank statement today money would now show the transactions but has the (* new) transactions next to the account even tho the actual transaction does not show. After this failed import i cannot enter transactions in manually either. It says an error has occurred so i try again and it puts the transaction in but the value is wildly off (10-100 times the value i entered). I restored a backup from yesterday and the manual transaction methods works correctly now but once i try importing a bank statement it corrupts the Money program again. Please help?     - Transaction Memo Data When I download bank info, the Money checking register shows the additional Memo data initially, but usually within 2 minutes or so, that data disappears (or is deleted) leaving only the Payee info intact.     - Mutual Fund Last Update and Day's Change not updating THIS PRODUCT IS MICROSOFT!!! IT IS BILL GATES!!! How long will the developers allow this problem to go on??? I've used MSN Money's Portfolio for years and just started getting the problem in the past six months. A post from MS says "we are working with our data providers to supply the correct date".     - Investment updates blow up Here's the situation: My wife and I both have accounts at the same investment firm. Since we have IRA's I cannot update both of our information from one logon/password. My wife and I do, however, share some accounts. So, I update my accounts and our shared accounts from my logon/password. I update my wife's individual accounts from her logon/password. Money also wants to update our shared accounts from my wife's logon/password but I've told Money that the our shared accounts from her logon/password are "closed." Money apparently can't handle this typical situation to determine that accounts from different logon/passwords may actually be joint accounts. Anyway, I've gotten around that but a new issue crept up within the last month. My wife's logon/password was successfully updating her accounts. Lately, however, her logon/password will update all of our shared accounts and my individual accounts!! So, Money will add multiple duplicate accounts to my account list for shared and my accounts and it will FAIL to update her accounts. Money appears to be updating accounts successfully through my logon/password and then will run her update using my logon/password! I've re-setup her logon process many times and I've confirmed her update uses her logon/password, not mine. So why would Money think it's updating her information when in fact it tries to update mine twice? Strange I realize, but I'm at a loss. The next step is to change to Quicken.     - Updating Accounts About a month ago I opened my Money program and saw that it had deleted the sign-on info I had saved for Home Depot and MBNA.     - 2004 vs 2006 handling of "Server price update problem" You know when the server doesn't update the prices in your copy of Money, but the prices ARE available elsewhere/ the next day at MSN ? ( Like last night) NORMALLY , in M2004 that night I can see the "price change column" is correct but the price was not updated, and I do it manually ( like I just did) So for Fidelity Low Priced Stock I change see that it went up by $0.07 and since it WAS 41.74, I know the new price is $41.81 so I update it and all the other funds too. ( BTW when I need to do this, prior to starting Money, I change the date on my PC back to "yesterday", so the " Today's total change" column is shown for those that were updated online- I can skip those). This morning when I opened M2006 the "price change column" shows UNCH yet the price of the fund IS correct. That's something that I hadn't noticed before. So with the same info provided by the server, M2004 updates the "price change column", yet doesn't update the price. M2006 updates the price and shows it as "unch". Anyone else with another version notice a difference ? SO, if this is now true, I could open M2006 - take a snap of the screen and update M2004 on the other PC manually without doing the math in my head ( like ... it WAS 72.38 and it went down $1.79 so the price is ...)     - Initial Investment and Business Reports I started a small business, and used a Home Equity as a down payment. The rest of the money came from an SBA loan. I got the money from the HE loan before the closing. I deposited the money in the Business Checking Account, under other income. Now it shows up in my PL Statement as income, and that is not right. Banking account for spend tracking purposes. The account settings page has
the box checked for using the account for budgeting purposes but it still
won't show up in the Budget accounts. Any suggestions?

What version? If 2005/6, Essential Budget or Advanced Budget? What are you
trying to do when "Money will not allow" you to select the account? What
does it say/do?
