Has anyone a solution to changing the name of SBC Communicsations to AT&T
Inc using the symbol T. Money does not allow this name change and use of a
symbol previously used for another stock. I have tried to get round it by
making it a merger of SBC into AT & T but this loses
all record of dividend payments from SBC in the new named stock.

How complex this is can differ. Let's assume the simple case.

You held SBC but not AT&T. However you had AT&T defined in a watch
account. Locate that AT&T that you defined with symbol T and blank
its symbol in the properties. While you are at it, change the name
to "AT&T Old". Now you will be free to change the symbol of SBC to T
and the name to AT&T.

It is possible you will have a problem with downloads. If that
happens, check back.

Thanks, removing that name and removing the symbol from the old ATT
'details" worked just fine. I had had AT & T as an investment until 06/2003
and all records were preserved.

Download also worked normally.

I have the same problem, except I owned 200 share of AT&T and 100 shares of
SBC. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

In that case you will need to do
Portfolio->RecordASpecialActivity->RecordAMerger which exists in
newer versions of Money.

That would be easy, except I happen to have the dumbed down version of Money
2004 which is the only version us lucky Canadians can use. There is no "
Portfolio->RecordASpecialActivity->RecordAMerger " option for me.

Yes. That is a problem.

In that case, to work around, I would modify the original Buy and
Dividend transactions of one or the other to consolidate into a
single security named AT&T with symbol T. Modify the original Buy
Quantity but not the Totals.
