Does anyone have something more detailed that the OFX spec
that could help me map a 401K QIF file download into the
new OFX spec. Any samples or better field layout
definitions would be great.

I'm just not getting much from the OFX.NET, Microsoft or
Intuit.

Version 2.0.2 of the specification seems very detailed to me. If you can
download anything from your bank with OFX transactions, this may help you in
building a file. Some other useful links may be here:
