 - MSN msngr 6 crashes after starting... Hi all, I'm trying to run MSN Messenger 6 on my winxp machine. so far I've been using the Windows Messenger 4.7 and had no problems. I downloaded the new v6.0 from MSN and successfuly run the installation. now, when I click on it's icon- it loads, appears for a second and crashes-down.. I've made countless uninstall/reinstallst, do some manual registry cleaning and file deleting but nothing helped... I'm clueless... can anyone help? P.S.  - Connection Since Saturdya, MSN Messenger 6 has been refusing to work "possibly because of a problem with your internet connection". Now, not only has it lasted 4 days, but in the 4 days we've tried everything from reinstalling MSN and the internet to calling customer services, nothing has worked!! Hotmail won't even let me in to check my email. It works on other computers, so it can't be an account problem. What more can I try? MSN feedback won't even send my plea for help! I tried to sign on under my NEW .Net passport, but it is stating "Signing in to the .Net Messenger Service failed because the service could not be found.  - exchange messenger with .net service I am running Sm business server 2000 with messenger service running on it. On the clients I am running msn 4.7 and the exchange service works fine for msn messenger but when I try to run .net service it no longer works and get the following error - "Signing in to .NET Messenger Service failed because the Service is not compatible with this version of the program." Any ideas on why this error has started comming up? To resolve the problem temporaryly I have install MSN 5 to run .NEt service and 4.7 to run the exchange service, but would like to have it all in one program again.  - Slow Performance on Exchange using Messenger... I recently deployed a new Exchange 2000 mail server on my intranet (the previous one died). It's fully patched and doesn't seem to be having any trouble delivering mail, but my IM service is running dog-slow. The previous mail server didn't have this trouble. The new mail server is a Dell PowerEdge 2450, U1, 750MHz, dual processor machine with 2Gb of RAM and a set of spanned 120Gb IDE hard drives. I've gone through all available versions of Messenger, from 2.2 through 5.0 and none of them show any improvement in performance so I've got to figure it's something in my Exchange configuration, but I can't find anything out of the ordinary that would be causing such poor performance in Messenger alone. I would think that the performance hit would also be evident inside some, or all of the Exchange mail processes as well. Has anyone else experienced this marked slow performance using Messenger on Exchange? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.  - Application Sharing Results in Hash Marks I just posted this message but it looks like it didn't go through. Problem: When sharing applications with XP (both PCs) I get hash marks on the receiving end. He can see the frame of the window but nothing inside the window but hash marks. I've lowered my resolution down to 800X600 but still the same result. We are both going over DSL and have been able to do this with earlier versions. We are currently both on MSM5. Any Ideas?  - Messenger 6.0 Messenger 6.0 running on Windows Xp or 2000 does not exit from memory even after shutting it down. At the time of the problem, it hung Outlook Express.  - Application Sharing Results in Hash Mark I am trying to share applications with an associate in another state. Everytime I application share all he sees is the frame mostly filled in with hash marks. This is true for him sharing with me also. I've turned my resoltion down to 800X600 but still no luck.  - No Audio on MSN Messenger My brother and I are trying to start videoconferencing (he lives in Australia, I live in the UK). I have newly installed XP Pro (with Windows Messenger) with an ADSL router/firewall UPnP, he has Win 2000 with MSN Messenger 6.0 and Zone Alarm. I can see him, but we cannot establish voice contact.  - Losing internet connection after logging in Hello After logging in to MSN Messenger, it loses connection. The weird thing is, this happens with only 1 username. After logging in, the computer freezes and the connection is lost forever (through browser)...It happened with 3 computers on the same network and the same username. All w2k machines.  - two accounts signing in - i'm freaking out! for at least the last few months now, i've been using MSN Messenger for two accounts, one is an older hotmail address i have, and the other is a .Net non-hotmail address. this problem has been brought to my attention by other contacts on both my lists who have been wondering how i can be signed in on BOTH at the same time. this sounds great, except i'm not signing in on the older hotmail account. when people message me on it, it's clearly not me, and therefore they get no reply. i have since added my hotmail address as a contact on my more frequently used account, and YES! freakily enough, i keep signing in when i'm already online. i'm sure anytime i have used Messenger on any other PC than my own, i have NEVER allowed it to sign me in automatically, and always deleted it from the machine after use anyway. if i ask the other "me" who's there, i get no answer, just like my other contacts. the most freakish thing was when i was visiting a friend overseas, and "the other me" signed in while i was online, leaving me worried that someone had broken into my house in the UK and switched my PC on. now THAT freaked me out. of course, nobody had. can anyone help?  - Lost Messages during Chats Help would be very much appreciated. I have never come across this before and it is quite frustrating. For some reason during chats with various people (some more than others -- also happens with Yahoo Messenger) I will often not receive all the messages that the other person sends to me. EX. get three messages in a row and then missed the next 2 or 3. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the pattern. I have never had the problem before, until I switched IP's (from ADSL to Cable), using XP Home and Norton 2003 Anti-virus (was using a Norton Firewall but switched to ZoneLabs -- Nortons was too frustrating).  - Windows/MSN Messenger & Remote Assistance I am an IT Professional by trade, but this one has me stumped. I have both Windows Messenger 4.7 and MSN Messenger 6.0 installed under Windows XP Professional. Windows Messenger options were changed to NOT start on startup, whereas MSN Messenger is allowed to start on startup. I usually use only MSN Messenger. Situation: An external user (also set up same as above, but under Windows XP Home) invites me through MSN Messenger to use Remote Assistance to assist them, and I receive the invite. Problem: If I accept the invite, nothing happens. i.e. Remote Assistance does not start. I have read KB article 330113 "Remote Assistance, Application Sharing, or Whiteboard Session Does Not Start After Remote Computer Accepts Your Invitation". I am fully aware that only one Messenger can run effectively at one time. I have confirmed that only one Messenger is running at the time (it happens with either one), thus this article does not apply to this situation. Clue #1 is that if I open "Help and Support / Remote Assistance / Invite someone to help you", it shows that "Windows Messenger is not installed". This is not true, as I can shut down MSN Messenger, and start Windows Messenger from the start menu. Both appear to operate normally (I can sign in, and chat with either). Clue #2 is that if the external user sends me an invite via email, Remote Assistance will start up just fine. I fear something has happened to the registry keys for both Messengers, since Remote Assistance should work for either one. In my case, it does not work regardless of which Messenger is running.  - Can't get MSN messenger to work. Yeah, its been about a year since msn messenger has REALLY worked on my computer. It all started when some of the newer versions were coming out, I downloaded them, got them installed ok, and when i went to sign in, it said that my password was incorrect or my sign in name was wrong. I know my password and email just fine. Well, I continued to use an older version of MSN up until just recently when MSN decided you HAVE to download the newest version, 6.0. I downloaded it, installed it just fine, and then, I had the same sign in problems. I decided I would go and do the update. It wont let me. When I try to download the latest version of Internet Explorer, I get an error message that says that XP does not consider IE as a compatible software. When I do the update, it says there is something wrong with JAVA. I've done numerous restores, reinstalls, you name it. I can't check my hotmail on Internet Explorer. It says the page can't be found. I have to use netscape. I've been using Trillian for a few weeks to chat on MSN until MS decided to cut third party connections. I just really want my MSN Messenger back.  - Still no sound I know a lot of people have this problem. No sound in msn messenger 6.0 trying to hook up sound with other people. Webcam ok. sound ok during setup in messenger, nut when trying to start sound conversation, the connection just ends by it self.  - Messenger verified user issue I signed up for a messenger .net passport a few years ago and assigned it to an AOL account name. After all this time, I now must use MSN Messenger 6 and I can sign in and the password is correct and everything. Of course I DON'T have the original email from MSN asking me to verify my email address, and I can't customize my user name in Messenger because it says I am not verified. I have a windows XP machine that it works fine on. But, on Windows 2000 I have MSN 6.0 installed and try to install a messenger version if won't let me. I have also installed on this machine Live Communications Server 2003 and have set it up according to the deployment guide contained on the Live Comms CD. I have enabled all my users, setup both TCP and TLS connectivity (using a local CA) and I cannot get my users to log into the service, they keep getting the error listed in the subject. It is to be noted that all front-end & home server requirements are located on this machine. Could IIS be causing the issue? I can't find anything on the web to help me out here and I desperately need to get Live Comms working ASAP - The event logs are of no help either, I just can't work out what is wrong. I don't know Trillian, but let me answer by telling you about GAIM. I use
GAIM. No, no webcam broadcast, and no voice so far as I know.
