time restrictions on MSN

Hi

Does anyone know of a method to automatically restrict use of MSN messenger
to defined times?

I want to let my kids use it for an hour or so early evening but then have
MSNmessenger access restricted but keeping normal web access.

Hi,

From what I know there is no possibility to restrict use
of MSN Messenger to defined times. Maybe the next version
of MSN Messenger (7.0) which is scheduled to be released
in April/May this year will have something like that
included.

Technically this is possible. If you have a router, and you can block
certain addresses, it's possible to write a script that contacts with your
router, changes the block list at defined times. Note that you have to
block the web versions too.

Just ask them to stick to the rules. Otherwise, log network access, and say
that you block messenger for a month if they don't stick to the rules.

Can you configure your firewall to block by application and port/address?
And if so set when the rule is valid, rather than always.
