    - Can't Log in to WinXP After Inst 7.0 I just installed Msgr 7.0 on my desktop running WinXP Home. NO PROBLEM. And didn't require a reboot. Once it finished it restarted Msgr and I logged in again, all was fine. Then I installed it on my laptop, also running WinXP Home. When it finished it required a reboot; I shut down all my apps and restarted. When it came back up to log in to WINDOWS it no longer accepted my password.     - MSN 7.0 Hung after log on (possible solution) Hi, To all those who face the above mentioned problem like me, I think I may have found out what is actually causing this issue. In my case I am behind my home WLAN router (DLINK DI 824VUP+). Followed Jonathan suggestion on deleting msn folder and amending the registry but still did not work out (worked once but after which it never happen again). So i went to take a connection log in MSN messenger 7.0 and found the following line which may prove to be some kind of network firewall problem. [17:23:51.966] Voice CEchoClient::ProcessNATDetection > Phase 5 [17:23:51.976] Voice CEchoClient::ReceiveSecondaryEchoTest > Timed out waiting 1112327013ms for response from secondary echo server. Already tested no firewall, so must be misconfigured echo test server. Thinking on this path I went to amend my firewall settings on my XP but still it doesn't work. The next logical step was to amend my router configuration. To my surprise I found a solution to my problem. By setting SPI mode to disable, MSN messenger 7.0 works. For those who don't know what SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection), the explanation is as below: SPI Mode When this feature is enabled, the router will record the packet information pass through the router like IP address, port address, ACK, SEQ number and so on. And the router will check every incoming packet to detect if this packet is valid. This leads to my conclusion. Apparently with SPI Enabled, my router inspected the packet MSN messenger 7.0 transmitted and somewhere along the line this packet was found to be "Not trusted" and was droped. Thus leads to the failure to completed whatever programming sequence was was coded into MSN messenger 7.0. This cause MSN messenger 7.0 to be in a deadlock, forever waiting for the packet before it can continue. This solution works for me. I am just guessing why the hanging occurs on my side and this reason might not be the case for all other who also faced the same problem.     - Msn 7.0.777 freezes 5secs aftter logging in I can't use Msn no more! I got the new version of Msn 7. I log in. The contact list appears, i move my mouse just a little around and it freezes. Never had any problem with previous Msn versions. I tried: Disable my firewall, unload WindowBlinds, make a clean install of Msn, trying with another language.. restarting computer.     - What I'm Listening to feature I am having trouble getting the "What I'm Listeng to feature to work on this PC. I have tried it with Windows Media Player 9, and 10, as well as with a winamp plugin. None of which seem to update the song info in MSN Messenger 7.0.     - SECURITY PROBLEM IN MSN MESSENGER AND PASSPORT! I am a Microsoft MSDN subscriber and work in a small company with another developer. The other developer (who I have worked with for 12 years and trust completely) needed to download a software tool from the MSDN site while I was otherwise occupied. Since my Passport Login is the only one allowed to be used for MSDN downloads (for our company), I explicitly gave him permission to use it for a download because the project had to be done immediately. A few days later, I logged into MSN Messenger (v6.2) automatically (it uses the same Passport ID/PWD) and to my surprise the display name shown was that of my co-worker!!!! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? Is MSN Messenger pulling private information from the computer a person logs in on? No matter HOW it happened the incident is extremely disconcerting. I bet that nefarious individuals could have a field day with this type of thing. Something fishy is going on. I definitely don't trust Passport or MSN Messenger anymore. Any comments? Explanations?     - Can't send .jpg - Can receive Installed 7 last evening and a friend in Arizona did also. I am on XP SP2 he is STILL on 98.     - Irregular email notifications...and hotmail page doesnt load... For a couple weeks now I have not been getting regular email notifications on messenger 7.0. Sometimes it will notify me a few minutes after I have signed on that I have emails. Usually it doesnt tell me though, if I receive mail after allready being logged on. I tried uninstalling and going to 6.2...no luck. I removed windows messenger, because I used to get double notifications (using 7.0). I read in some old posts that this problem was due to server switching. But this has been going on for several weeks now. Also, as of a couple days ago, the hotmail pages (inbox, send message...) do not load. They will load with the blue background and maybe the top add and some buttons, but the rest of the screen won't load. SOmetimes it does, but is incredibly slow. This has been happening on any computer I use, in internet explorer and firefox. Somebody please help!     - getting royally pissed w/ MSN messenger 7 I have been running MSN messenger BETA 7.0 for a few weeks, and never had any problem. Tonight, as it started up, I was informed a new version was ready. I downloaded and installed it. After reebooting, which was required, as the new and (supposedly) "improved" 7.0 (which I think is the final release) tried to open, I got an error message telling me it couldnt connect, and that either the server was down (which I know it wasnt as a friend could connect), or my internet connection wasnt there (which I know it WAS as I was connected to the internet through other programs, including internet explorer). The "troubleshooter" started, only to lock up and cause both the troubleshooter AND messenger 7.0 to stop responding. I had to force (via CTRL-ALT-DEL) them to shut down. When I tried to run 7.0 again, it refused to even try to open. I had to reboot My system, which is another problem. With the BETA version, My system would still shut down in about 30 seconds. Now that the (supposed) "full" version is installed, it now takes my system a good 10 minutes to fully shut down. What in the hell is wrong with this picture? I DID uncheck the box in Norton Anti-Virus for MSN messenger, as the help section said to do...still no help. Now, after unchecking the anti-virus box, and after rebooting, now, when I click the MSN messenger icon, it doesnt even try to open. As far as I am concerned, I want MSN messenger 6.x back...unfortunately, I dont think thats possible anymore. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if anyone at Microsoft can figure out how to solve this one, please let me know ASAP, as I use msn messenger to keep in touch with a good number of people.     - chat connection problem with MSN 7.0 I kept getting this error message pretty frequently: The following message could not be delivered to all recipients: Funny how I was only chatting with ONE PERSON and I STILL got that stupid message. I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with my connection because MSN 6.2 worked perfectly fine. I've done all the anti-spyware check with Ad-Aware and SpyBot, checked for viruses, and even tested my bandwidth and connection on dslreports.com . Honestly, I think AIM does a BETTER job at relaying messages because I've NEVER had a problem with AIM telling me that my message wasn't received. Seriously folks, if you're going to fiddle around with all these new toys on MSN 7.0, you should've made sure that the CHAT CLIENT connects with the server.     - MSN Messenger 7.0 - Too much wasted space I recently installed MSN Messenger 7.0, and there is one thing about it that I really don't like. I noticed that there is a lot less vertical space due to the extra area used at the top and bottom. Although these areas existed in the previous version, they did not use as much space. This makes it hard to show much in the content area, which is very frustrating. This is probably less of a problem on higher resolution monitors, but since not everyone has top-resolution monitors, I think we should have the option of hiding the area at the top (I understand that the ads must be shown, even though I don't always like them). I also think the contacts icons are lower quality than they used to be (although I could be wrong about this, they just look lower quality to me). Boy, am I sorry!? Somehow, the installation of 7.0 lost my entire Contact List and lost track of the automatic sign-in I had established for 6.2. As of now, I have no idea how to recover my lost contacts list.     - crashing every (MSN) messenger on XP SP2 and video capture card Well, just installed release version MSN Messenger 7.0.0777 and went to the audio/video tuning wizard immediately. WinXP SP2 still crashes in trying to connect to the Hercules Video Action! video capture card :-( Prob is persistent with MSN Messenger 6.2 , 7.0.0429 beta and now 7.0.0777. Also tried the Messenger 4.7 version coming with XP, AND even the update 5.1.0639 Same prob exists, XP reboots when trying to capture video. MSN Messenger 4.7 / 6.2 ran fine on W2k SP4, and no hardware changes whatsoever were done when (clean) installing XP. Also the Hercules frame grabber card works fine in *any* other app accessing it, it's *ONLY* (MSN) Messenger crashing into bluescreen when trying to use it, so I wonder what causes the prob. Even tried the solution of deleting the %appdata%\microsoft\MSN Messenger folder too (hey, whatever does the trick is ok with me...), but to no avail :-( System is a mobo VIA Tornado Pro 233 (MS7177) with Intel PIII/1000 and AGP NVidia TNT2 64 and network card Realtek 8139. (and the Hercules Video Action frame grabber card of course) Looks like some software fault in MSN Messenger to me since *all* apps accessing the frame grabber card work fine and *only* (MSN) messenger crashes XP completely. Several error reports were sent after the rebooting of XP, the "standard solution" coming back is a "device driver error". (err reports 15106750, 15125039, 15141274, 15142076) If so I wonder why *all* other apps can acces the frame grabber without *any* prob whatsoever, why it's *only* (MSN) Messenger crashing..... Anyone a solution or explanation for this ?     - Freezes behind firewall... At work behind my corporate firewall messenger logs in and freezes almost immediately, I must kill task to close. I move my laptop outside the firewall it works fine. I take the same laptop home and run it behind my home firewall and it works fine as well. What makes it really bizarre is that I've been using the 7.0 beta for several weeks without a single problem. But installing the release version today and it won't work right. Though I assumed it wouldn't work I tried deleting the app directory indicated in other posts. As expected messenger continues to freeze when I'm behind the corporate firewall... Any ideas? Firewall configuration changes? Messenger registry hack? Tag: How can you do this to us?! Tag: 68357

I installed the new ver7, it's fozen right after the
login. I try to uninstall and reinstall ver6.2 but when I
login it says "there is a newer version, you must upgrade
in order to continue..."

My god, I just need a stable IM! Now I'm stuck with
Windows Messanger. Can anybody tell me how to roll back to
v6.2?

You can find an old version of 6.2 here:

It'll prompt you to update when you start it, but the update will still be 6.2.
