How can there be this many problems for a software from
Microsoft. I am very dissapointed. Even though it is
the preview version, why did MICROSOFT release the
product to users if it had this many problems?
1. Video is not working.
2. Audio is not working.
3. My contact can see me but I can't see them.
4. My contact can hear me but I can't.
5. My computer reboots when I turn on MSN Messenger 6.0.
6. MSN Messenger automatically starts when Windows starts
even though I unchecked the automatic start button.
7. I'm having troubles transferring files.
8. I get kicked off after a while.
9. I can't use the WELL-WORKING video communication in
MSN Messenger 5.0 once I've installed 6.0.
10. I can't sign in to MSN Messenger 6.0.
11. Can't unblock a user.
12. Messenger freezes.
13. Can't delete contacts.
14. Different password for no reason.
and on and on and on and on...

Is it normally like this when a new software is released?
Or do normal programmers usually test the program out
MORE THOROUGHLY under various circumstances before
releasing it to the public? If MICROSOFT or MSN can see
the many many problems that are being reported here, I
wish they're working on it to fix them. THANK YOU.

Greetings,

MSN Messenger 6 makes several important leaps in terms of connectivity (especially compared
to just about every other instant messaging problem available). Keep in mind that Messenger
is a Internet application, and most of its features attempt to get around a slew of different
issues that can prevent these features from working.

Firstly, for your connectivity problems (audio/video/file transfer), if you're using a
router, it's always encouraged (although not completely required for MSN Messenger 6), that
you seek a firmware update to the router that supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). Many
manufacturers have already created such upgrades, if you're using a router, tell us which one
you're using and we'll be happy to tell you if it supports UPnP. If you're using a
third-party firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, Sygate, etc.), make sure that
Messenger is to "Permit All", "Allow All", or in the case of ZoneAlarm, the "Medium" setting.

I don't mean to criticize, but if your computer reboots when you use MSN Messenger 6, how do
you know that the video/audio features aren't working? To solve (and discover) what the
problem(s) that you're experiencing, we'll need some more details -- error messages, Windows
version, exactly when these reboots are occurring etc.

The "well-working" MSN Messenger 5 video is still there, just click the Actions menu in MSN
Messenger 6, and choose Start Video Conference.

As well, for the best experience, it's recommended that your contacts use MSN Messenger 6 as
well.

When exactly is it freezing? How do you mean you can't delete contacts? .NET Passport
passwords are all the same regardless of if you're signing into a .NET Passport site, Windows
Messenger 4, or MSN Messenger 6, they're all the same.

MSN Messenger 6 has been extensively tested, and the majority of people have absolutely no
problem with it.

Hi,

Phew =).

Well, as I said, there are so many different networking configurations, how ISPs are setup,
etc. which can really have an effect on Messenger (and any other rich Internet based
application).

Keep in mind that these types of newsgroups, message boards, etc. primarily just get support
problems and questions -- no matter what product you're interested in, no matter what forum
(DellTalk, Apple Forums, Brighthand Discussion, HowardForums, Windows XP newsgroups, etc.)
you'll need nothing but problems with a product. The fact of the matter is, nothing is
perfect (but Messenger comes close *large grin*).
