    - Removing msn messenger i have just recently purchased a new PC with windows XP home edition. Msn Messenger is already installed on the system however i cannot seem to remove it. It doesn't appear on the add/remove programs. I have downloaded the latest version but it didn't overwrite it and the older version still ran alongside it.     - Message History Problems Edited xml file using Word. Then couldn't read file with messenger. Then lost original file name with number string after user id. I'm able to open the xml file using Word but the option to open history file is grayed out from the Messenger. Reinstalled Messenger 6.2 -- no help. Tried doing a copy and paste from Word into new xml file but still retains many lines of code when using notepad, that are not there in my other xml files which are good. Exiting a chat with user that has corrupt files gives errors as it won't update file. Unable to find how Messenger adds these seemingly random numbers before the xml extension or if there is a way to link a saved file without these numbers back to Messenger.     - Messenger closes each time we start the program each time i try and start the messenger 6.1 program, the "signing in" message appears, and then my list of contacts briefly appears. A warning window pops up telling me that messenger has encountered a problem. i've sent the error report numerous times, and i frequently request live MS updates. not sure what else to do. i've uninstalled MSN messenger multiples times and re-installed it but continue to have the same problem. one other odd thing is that the IM icon appears down in the bottom right hand portion of my screen (where my update notifications appear). as soon as i place my cursor over that icon, it disappears. could it have anything to do with my firewall software setup? any help would be greatly appreciated.     - MSN Messenger vs Windows Messenger I have a problem running MSN Messenger 6.1 on a computer using Windows XP Home that is behind a Linksys EtheFast Cable/DSL Router. I am using a cable modem. When launching MSN Messenger a message appears stating "We were unable to sign you in to .net messenger service possibly because of a problem with the service or with your internet connection.     - MSN messenger My wife's mother and we both run XP, have logitech cams and labtec microphones, have MSN versions 6.? somethingarather and have no problems with audio or video streaming. Great stuff. But my friend also has XP, the latest MSN version, unknown make of webcam and mic and I cannot get any audio or video from him. He says when he set it all up that it all installed perfectly in MSN. He can also see me but cannot hear me. Is there some ISPs that do NOT support MSN? Are there webcams and mics that are NOT supported by MSN? I have the exact same problem when trying to communicate using MSN with my own mother who hasWindows 2000 running with unknown models of webcam and mic who incidentally don't have any problems using MSN with others except when they try to communicate with us. On my list I have many contacts, but just ONE of them is blocked each time I logg off and on, so each time I have to unblock him, but the next time he is blocked again. This only happens with this one contact.... it is very strange!!!     - webcam questions My cousin has finally got broadband so we are both thinking about getting web cams and start using msn messenger so we can see and hear each other. We are both using broadband services that allow speeds of 500k for downloads and around 250k for uploads and are both using Windows 2000. Now the questions and I would be thankful for any answers given. With the speed of our broadband connection will any web cam do? Does anyone have any web cam recommendations? Does spending more money mean better pictures? We intend getting built in microphones but wouldn't the microphones pick up the sounds from the loudspeakers and cause feedback making conversation hard? Anything else I need to know or consider?     - Webcam and Messenger 6.2 problem Just went out and bought myself a webcam, Ezonics model EZ- 388, and I get the following message: "You cannot change your camera settings because either your camera is not plugged in to your computer or you are using it in a video conversation or with anouther program."     - Mess 6.2 Stopping automatically after few seconds I am installing 6.2 for the first time on XP. I have tried a few times and always messenger will start up, and if i type quickly enough I can sign in and it tells me I have some messages from someone I know (all rosy huh?), but always messenger closes itself after about 6-10 seconds - no matter what I am doing.     - Problem MSN 6.1 and D-Link wireless network Hello Jonathan and all. This information may help others with similar problems. I've had major problems with dropped connections for the last couple of months with my wireless network connection. -ADSL Router D-Link Di624 -D-Link cardbus and adapters. -Win XP I've posted on relavant newsgroups and I've posted here a couple of times trying to find answers as to why MSN was logging on and off every few minutes. Spoke to Dlink support on numerous occasions but hit a blank everytime specially that it wasn't clear whether it was the router, the modem, the ISP or MSN. All the machines were configured correctly. I then put most machines back on 'wired' which have run perfectly since and left with 3 wireless that still had the problem. Anyhow after weeks of trying everything and a long process of elimination it turns out the problem is with MSN 6.1. (It had to be the last thing I tried !) One laptop was fixed by uninstalling all the updates. Then I realised that the problem all started around the same time as we all installed the 6.1 upgrade I've uninstalled MSN messengers on all the wireless machines and now they are all running windows messenger. And so far so good. The problem must lie between the router and MSN msg. because as soon as I tried to reinstall 6.1 the wireless network disconnects everytime. When I informed D-link, they told me that they know of an issue with D-link wireless and one of the XP updates but they don't know which one yet. Jonathan have you heard of this before? My company has setup a Live Communication Services server, and I have installed and configured Windows Messenger 5.0 to connect to It. Even when Windows Messenger 5.0 is closed and MSN Messenger running, Windows Messenger will be loaded when I open Outlook Express. If I uncheck the "Communication Services" radio in and close windows Messenger, It will not be loaded anymore. (By the way I can reproduce it programatically with Visual Basic if I try to instanciate the Messenger COM Object). Is it a known issue? Is there anything I can do to avoid that?     - Problems signing in Hello, I am getting a strange error when I try to login in messenger. The first error screen says: Windows Messenger could not sign you in to the .NET Messenger Service. portillo@hotmail.com is a valid .NET passport but there was a problem signing in with this account. Before you can sign in, you must fix the problem at the .NET passport web site. The options offered are: Go to .NET passport web site and Cancel The second error screen says: An HTTPS or TCP connection could not be made. Please wait for your network administrator to correct the problem, and try again later I checked everything at the .NET Passport web site and all is ok, even I am able to sign in with this passport account in hotmail and msn and gain access to the services, the unique problem is with messenger.
