M$ have finally lost it -- WTF are they thinking?

I come to uninstall MSN 8.0 because it was consuming 100% of my CPU time at
what would appear to be random situations, but since it is a daily problem
(I'm not alone as you'll see 1000's of complaints about CPU usage problems
and MSN 8.0). During the Uninstall process it tells me I have to shutdown
my VS 2005 Professional!!!! Say WHAT!!!!! WTF are M$ doing with MSN that
requires me to shutdown VS 2005 so that they can UNINSTALL????

Are they spying on my development work? What possible reason do they have
to force me to shutdown my development tool so that MSN can uninstall
itself? This is completely UNACCEPTABLE!! MSN 8.0 is doing A LOT more than
just providing chat and it appears to be communicating with many other
servers on a regular basis without my knowledge (lucky I have port scanners
on my system to see the illegal activity MSN 8.0 performs, there is NOTHING
in the EULA that suggest they are doing this).

M$ are asking for some serious legal action against them.

After I shutdown VS 2005 so that I can try to uninstall MSN 8.0, it dumps
out an error "Microsoft Document Explorer" dexplore.exe .... I am SO OVER
M$ crap, their software/updates of late have been incredibly buggy and
extremely invasive.

You've been warned, MSN 8.0 is spyware and bad spyware at that.

Rob

Greetings Rob,

There are some scenarios where MSN Messenger 7.x and above consume 100% CPU on demand but
closing all current running conversation windows should fix it (till the next time).

They're not spying on you -- beginning in Windows Messenger 5.x, they have attempted to
identify currently running applications that might cause you to reboot if you continue
uninstalling (or installing) the software. It's been seen in some other Microsoft products,
including Windows Live Messenger. Just hit Ignore, it's usually wrong.

Closing MSN (not just chat windows) is the only thing that resolves the 100%
CPU usage. Version 7.5 doesn't exhibit this behavior so I'm staying with it
for now -- most likely we're going to convert to gmail or something else
within the next month or so, too many issues with MSN 8.0.

I solved the 100% CPU usage by shutting down Windoze and installing Linux ;)

Hi Rob,

We're probably describing different issues then, still, if you ever find a specific
combination of things which case the problem, be sure to post them.

Re: MSN 8.0 telling me to exit VS 2005 when I uninstall?? by Rob

Rob

Not sure going from one user intensive OS to another user intensive OS is
going to help solve anything beyond my immediate problems. The real issue:

1. Developers don't think outside their box (hence 80% of the population do
use what we produce)
2. The complexity of the OS is preventing complete QA cycles (more security
holes, more bugs)
3. Security should NOT be IN THE WAY and should NOT be the responsibility
of the user

There are solutions to all three of these, yet nobody wants to spend the
time, money and resources on it -- and this is exactly how one dooms ones
fate to a flat 20% market share. Are the light bulbs going on? Not at
Microsoft and certainly not open source Linux or any other flavor. Going
with an alternative just because it is an alternative still doesn't address
the three issues above.

My hope is that a well funded group will see the light (and business/profit
potential) and come out with an OS (and no the Mac OS is no better) that is
truely for everyone.

Rob.
