Hello

I was wondering if someone knows how to stop MSN Messenger 6.1 from starting
whenever I enter http://www.hotmail.com ? Every time I log in there, MSN
Messenger also starts and I do not want that.

Greetings,

Unfortunately you really can't, with the exception of removing your saved password within
Messenger or disabling Javascript in Internet Explorer (which will disable a good majority of
Hotmail's functionality).

Thanx for the reply. Wonder though why I am FORCED to have MSN Messenger
opened when I don't want it open. I really do not like this. If I want MSN
Messenger open, I want to start it myself and not by a site.
Maybe an option implanted in next site version or MSN version where one can
chooose self to open MSN Messenger instead of that it starts by itself?

Hi,

The reason why you see this is Hotmail tries to show you the status of people sending you
mail that are on your contact list. Since it "calls" Messenger, if Messenger isn't started,
it starts it automatically.

And this is usefull for ......? Can't think of one reason why .... besides
that, there are no people in my Hotmail account that are in my Messenger
account.
I just do not like the fact that again Microsoft is doing something without
the user having control over it. But okay, it's the way it is and I know now
that Hotmail is forcing MSN Messenger opening so I will stop my Hotmail
account ... being it a protest but also pure because I do not like a site
(Hotmail) forcing MSN Messenger to open.

Thanks for you replies and explanation

Hi Menno,

This functionality has actually been there for quite some time, and if it were removed,
there'd be people protest it too. Best case scenario would be an option for this, but there
isn't as of current.
