    - sign in error codes hey, can someone help me? when i try to sign in, i get error code 80048820 and extended error code 80048412.     - Automatic sign-in Problems XP Home, SP2 Windows Live Messenger 8.1 (MSN Messenger). Although I have the options checked to allow automatic sign-in when Windows loads and to "remember me" (remember name & password), it does not work, I have to manually open the program and enter my name & password. The problem started months ago when I was using MSN Messenger 7. I have since uninstalled 7 and installed 8, but the problem persists. Out of curiousity, I tested Windows Messenger 4.7, and the same problem occurs - automatic sign in does not work, and name & pw are not remembered. ** I have two Windows user accounts, both Admin level accounts. This problem occurs only for one of those accounts. If I view Start-Control Panel-User Accounts: Admin Account#1 -(the one for which auto-sign in works correctly) When I view this user account, the main panel on the right lists five options. Change name, pw, picture, account type, and delete account. On the left pane, under Related Tasks, there are two options - change another account, and create a new account. Admin Account#2 - (the one with the problem): The main right panel does not include a Delete Account option like #1 does, and it includes an option #1 doesn't - "Set up my account to use a .NET passport". If I choose that option, it starts a ".NET Passport Wizard". This apparently associates the Windows account with a passport ID, but I have run through the wizard several times (using the ID I use for MSN Messenger) and nothing changes. It's like the wizard doesn't remember that I've already set it up. On the left panel, under Related Tasks, there are two additional options that Account#1 doesn't have: "Mange my network passwords" and "Prevent a forgotten password". If I click on "Manage my network passwords", a dialog box opens. It's titled "Stored Usernames and Passwords" and says "Windows allows applications to store logon information for network locations and websites.     - Dropped Messages Hi everyone, I tried to Google this, but almost all the hits I got were about "drag and drop messages"...ugh! Lately, a friend and I (both using WLM 8.5) have begun to notice that a couple of times a night, messages will just randomly not show up, even though they were very clearly sent, and the sender receives no error message of any kind. This doesn't seem to have happened to us until maybe a week or two ago. Does anybody know if there's something that might be causing this that I should be looking for? The only thing I can think of is that I know he upgraded from 8.1 to 8.5 around that same time, but I *think* the problem preceded the upgrade. Thoughts?     - WLM 8.5.1302.1018 freezes while signing in Hi All, This seems to be a common problem but the common solution isn't working out for me. I have WLM 8.5.1302.1018 installed on Windows XP SP2. Recently, when I try to log in the messenger windows hangs. When I open the task manager window I see two processes named Windows Live Messenger and one of them is eating up 50% of the CPU. I have tried the suggested fixes that were mentioned before, which are: -removing the MSNMessenger folder from the registry. -installing and uninstalling this version and older versions. -Removing any cached data.     - WLM Problem (Sharing Folders) Hello lads, Well, the classic one. Suddenly, I can't share my folder through Windows Live Messenger. I get the following error when I press the "Sharing Folders" button. Error: "Your sharing folders aren't yet available. Please try again in a minute." Suddenly, I checked the usnsv.exe (service) which is MUST for the sharing scenario of WLM, but it stopped running at task manager.     - Youtube.com hyperlinks All my friends and I have been able to duplicate this "bug" where any message that includes a hyperlink with the string "youtube.com" in it is immediately bounced. This is as of 9:34 PM Pacific Daylight Time on May 9, 2008. Anyone else experiencing this bug or know why it's happening?     - Malware - unrequested internet traffic (Windows XP Home SP 2) My problem was unrequested internet traffic, which used 20-50% of my dial-up internet capacity on a continuous basis. I had discounted all apps and automatic updates, so I knew it was malware. As of today (Apr-08) three name brand virus scanners can't identify the problem. The traffic started immediately upon connect and showed a continuous up/down wave on the Networking graph in Windows Task Manager. I addressed the problem by installing Microsoft Network Monitor 3.1. I could see a DNS query to msgr.dlservice.microsoft.com upon connection. This is a sham use of Microsoft's name. The DNS query returned three IP addresses (typically Asia Pacific APNIC or Level 3 Communications) which would launch the malware. In addition, I was getting MsgSvcSend frames (www.registrycleanerexp.com.scam). I still don't know what the malware was doing but by identifying the problematic IPs and creating custom default blocks in my firewall I stopped the traffic. I tot it's a friend community and I clicked in. First page, it request me to login using my msn account. After login, nothing happened.     - FIOS router? I had a netgear router running from a cable modem, and was able to do good quality video chatting with people using messenger. Which version? I don't know. Was it MSN messenger, Windows messenger, Windows Live messenger? I don't know and I don't even know if it makes a difference. I know that I've been able to do video chats using version 8.1 of something, which I think I was forced to change to from version 7.5 of something, which had also worked. Recently I changed to FIOS. Because of where the fiber comes into the home, they run a coax right up to their Actiontec MI424 (something like that) router. I discover that I can't SUCCESSFULLY initiate or respond to requests for a video chat with people out on the internet. As soon as I either accept the call or the remote person accepts my invitation, the call ends. We did have one strange fairly successful video only, no sound connection cross country, but neither of us could think of what me might have been doing that achieved this partial success. That one came with no sliders for microphone volume, no mute button, and no full screen capability for the received picture. I speculate that there's a setting in the FIOS router that is preventing success. I've got UP&P enabled (had to do that to make my slingbox push video out. When I look at port forwarding in the router I can see that about three entries for things like messenger are there. When I look at the "security log", I see entries that say things like: First packet in connection is not a SYN packet: TCP 192.168.1.1:2555->192.168.1.2:2706 on br0 Now I have no idea what br0 is, I don't know who is failing to send a SYN packet, and I suspect the red Outbound Traffic And Blocked -NAT OUT Failed is at issue.     - Windows Live Installer is poorly designed... like msn! Need help! A brief rant... I'm TIRED of uninstalling a program and reinstalling it only to find it left 99% of it's crap in the registry. When I UNinstall something I want it GONE... 100%. I need a tool to remove every trace of Windows Live ANYTHING! One day Msn Live works, next day, error signing in. Never worked again. It works on my other computers but my laptop - I give up! I just spent 4 hours ripping reg keys out of windows, deleteing every trace off the hard drive of any Live crap. And all this, after days of uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling with no luck. Now, the stupid Msn Live Installer just says Installed for all 3 items. It didnt even check that the folders are there or not. So tired of products imbedding themselves into the operating system. MS can't even write a decent chat program. I'm a programmer (advanced asm down to basic), I write quality software. This kind of crap would never happen in my software. The msn tests (when it was installed but not working) would say - oh joy - you're connected to the internet, the service is up, this is working, that is working, nice green checkboxes everywhere, time syncronized, date correct, everything checked and double checked. Wheres the tool to install this crappy chat program bypassing the very poorly designed Windows Live Installer. I'm sick of this kind of crap programming. It's a damn chat program. It's not rocket science and you guys can't even write a good quality hastle free chat program. And we're supposed to be assured you can write an OS? I'm so SICK of problems like this everywhere I go. Sure it pays my bills (Windows sucking means money for me) but I'm tired of registry junk and hundreds of keys). Why do you need so many damn keys? Why so many registry entries. Its sickening to see something like a chat program take more than 5 seconds to install on a fast computer. LEARN TO PROGRAM! OMG - you guys have SO many flaws in so many products. QUality testing? Where? I'm SO mad at Microsoft right now. I wanna tell my thousands of customers to just go buy Macs I'm SO sick of it all. They are sick of it all too. Thousands and thousands of service calls to repair a swiss cheese operating system. Hey, pays my bills but I'm so fed up with lousy installers and even worse uninstaller. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME A TOOL TO RIP MSN EVERYTHING OFF MY COMPUTER? ARGH! So mad.... just so mad at the time wasted. Wish Commodore was still around... that was quality... C64 (lol). Where we would be today if Commodore had better management in the end..... so sad we're stuck with a company (for now) that can't even program a chat program or an installer. Doubt I'll get any real help here but I'm extending a branch in the offchance someone at Microsoft even reads these and knows the internals of this software and how to fix this problem. And no... I dont feel like reinstalling my entire laptop just to fix Msn. I'll go without and a different chat program before I do that.     - Windows live messenger keeps installing everytime I reboot I am using version 8.5 and it is working fine.     - WM6 Windows Live Messenger Problems Since I got a new device and started using WM6 and Windows Live Messenger I have been plagued with problems when using MSN Messenger on the device. When I log in to Windows Live Messenger it shows me as being online, but fails to retrieve my list of contacts and fails to Sync. Anyone know whats going on with this?     - What the F is MSN doing!?! So I'm sitting here looking at Task Manager..... I notice MSN Live (current version) is using 50% of my dual-core CPU. Wow. I notice it's using 90 megs of memory, and rising about 1 meg a second. Within a min its up to 128megs.... So start I this post... As I sit here, its using 166megs of memory (its gone up 86megs in 2 min!!!!) .....184megs after 3min ......221megs after 4 min .........I guess my computer will be crashing soon, so I should save this message now while I still can There is ABSOLUTELY no justification for this cpu & memory usage.     - Should I upgrade from 8.1 to 8.5? When I went to 8.1 it didn't work that well and has lots of annoying little quirks and little tricks you have to use to make it work, but since I didn't use it that much it wasn't worth going back to 7.x. (For example, when I send a message to someone it will sign me out, and then I have to sign back in, switch my status to online again, and resend the message. From there it works OK until I want to send a message to a different person, and then the same thing happens...) Is 8.5 a better product or does it have *more* problems than 8.1?     - Someone signed me onto a different computer Hello, I would first like to point out that I'm very freaked out by this. I'm pretty much always signed in on MSN, but tonight, right after I was done making dinner and was just about to tell someone I had returned, I was signed off and MSN said I was logged on to a different computer. This immediately made me change my password to a ridiculously difficult one, but I want to know if there's anything else I can do. Could this be some kind of server error or did someone seriously hack my account? There are no other computers that I have ever logged on to, so there is no other computer on which I entered my login information. Only my Xbox 360 had my info, but I changed that a few weeks ago and it's turned off right now. Please, anyone, what do I do with this? hey, can someone help me? when i try to sign in, i get error code 80048820
and extended error code 80048412. When i trouble shoot, i get no checkmark
next to IE's offline setting and a yellow caution next to key ports... ive
checked firewall and proxy says im not connected to .NET network.... any
suggestions? ive deleted the whole program and redownloaded and still no luck
