Some time ago, I upgraded from MSN Messenger 7.0 to 7.5 and all seems
well. Earlier today, I went to my control panel to remove another program
and noticed that Messenger 7.0 still listed on my system. I tried to remove
it but couldn't. I wonder if this is because MSN 7.5 is still a beta--at
least it was listed as such when I installed it--or does 7.0 have to remain
on the system for some reason?

MSN Messenger 7.5 has not been in beta for a while now.

In fact, MSN Messenger's next version, Windows Live Messenger, is now in
beta. Any additional fixes to the 7.5 line will be limited to QFE fixes and
such now.

You might want to make sure you have the latest version of MSN Messenger
from http://messenger.msn.com. When you install the latest version it might
fix this numbering issue.

Because of an earlier post, I just finished removing and reinstalling 7.5.
So it's: build 7.5.0311. After the installation, the old 7.0 still showed
up in my control panel. When I try to remove it, I get a prompt that a file
needed cannot be found and I should browse to find it (duh, like I have any
idea where Microsoft's installation program may have put any particular
file!) so I did a search for it (the file name is: MsnMsgs0777.Msp) and it's
nowhere to be found on either my C or D drives. So, the process aborts and
the program remains on my computer, at least I think it does although I
can't find it. There is, of course, an MSN Messenger folder in my programs
folder on my C drive but there's only one and it doesn't specify a version
number. I gather from the date, it's the current one so, in all likelihood,
the old one is actually no longer on my system but, for whatever reason,
shows up under the control panel's "add and remove programs" section.
