    - video frame is smaller than the cam-source I have a Sony DV-Cam connected to my computer through firewire. I can stream videos easily to the computer with microsofts own drivers. strange thing happens, when i try to use the cam in a videoconference with msn-messenger: during configuration the picture/video is shown correct. but when i start the videostreaming, me and the msn-chatpartner can only see a cutout from the whole frame about 9th the size of the whole picture. what happened? could it be that it's msn-messengers way to deal with the very high resultion of the source? what can i do about it?     - Receiving files prob - MSN 7 I've been having a problem ever since upgrading to MSN 7 - people can't send me MP3s! It results in "[username] tried to send you a file ([filename].mp3). This file has been blocked because it is potentially unsafe.". This doesn't appear to happen with any other type of file, so why MP3s? I have no problems sending them, only receiving. Is this another one of the many apparent bugs in MSN 7?     - Messenger 7 and Hotmail Notification I'm currently using MSN messenger 7 (build 7.0.0777) on WinXP and have found that for the last two versions, the mail notification w/ Hotmail has been terrible. It used to be extremely efficient and fast when it notified me of new mail. Now, it seems buggy at best. For example, my inbox at Hotmail shows 3 new messages, yet MSN Messenger tells me that there are no new messages. While typing this email, a fourth message just arrived but MSN Messenger hasn't even informed me of the new incoming message. Generally, after a few minutes, it will "catch up" and tell me that there are x amount of new messages, but it's usually after I've already checked it. What happened to these new versions? Is there something I can change within the settings to make it function like it used to? (I haven't changed software/hardware and there aren't any unusual hardware configurations on this system). I'm using MSN 7 and I'm facing an odd situation: I have set up the option of seeing the display pictures of my contacts in main window as thumbnails. Still then, if I open MSN, I see nothing.     - Add custom emoticons from conversation window Hi there! I have MSN 7 installed and I'm not able to add custom emoticons from conversation windows. For example, if someone sends a nice emoticon and you would like to keep it, you can't :-( I have one colleague which right clicks over the received emoticon and he's got an option named 'Add' which enables him to do that.     - Messenger 7.0 - total fubar I am running Windows Me and, until a couple days ago, was running Messenger 6.2 with no problems. I "upgraded" to Messenger 7.0, and was doing fine for a couple days. All of a sudden, settings went haywire, and as many times as I tried to reset them in Options, they would not take. When I try to uninstall from Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs, I get the "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed" error. When I try to reinstall, either from within IE or by manually downloading and running the installer, I got the "Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Installer\Features\C838B..." error, followed by the "1603" error.     - WINKS - 2 computers different or no winks on one I have the new MSN installed on 2 pc's in my house, My main Pc has only the regular winks and will not allow me to get others from the packs... it just shows grey boxes with x's in them, my other pC has alot to offer in the packs, ...     - Conversation Window Freezes on a Daily Basis Since I upgraded to 7.0777, I have had the following problem approximately once a day: When I sign into msn, and try to open an IM window (either me initiating or someone else sending a message to me), the window freezes in a "squeezed" image, freezing the rest of msn with it. The only way I have been able to fix this is to do both of the following: 1) Deleting the MSN Messenger Folder in C:\Documents and Settings\*******\Application Data\Microsoft 2) Deleting the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger This is getting old; I love the new full-screen video, but is there some fix to this problem (I've browsed the groups for answer)?     - How to I remove new search button in messenger I have installed the new messenger. And in the chat window there is a search button... this is just taking up space on my small screen on this laptop. In fact so much room (if you include the advert) that its difficult to do anything else on the computer at the same time.     - Webcam Jerky in Local Mode I want to demonstrate the use of a webcam with MSN Messenger at a school tech fair this week. I will not be able to have someone at the other end, so can only do a local (off-line) demo. I thought I'd simply use the webcam settings option to at least show a picture. With my laptop (ThinkPad T22 with 40 GB hard drive and 512 MB of memory) the picture, using the webcam settings option, is giving a frame refresh rate is 6-15 seconds! With a similarly equipped desktop (40 GB hard drive and 512 MB of memory), the motion is perfectly smooth and continuous. The laptop is running Windows XP Professional SP2 and MSN Messenger 6.2.0205. The desktop is running Windows 2000 SP4 and MSN Messenger 6.2.0205. I notice that where the W2K system shows Tools...Audio Tuning Wizard, the XP system shows Tools...Audio/Video Tuning Wizard, and shows in the first screen a video window. The CPU usage on the laptop varies between 2-25% and seems to fluctuate slightly as I wave my hand in front of the camera. The CPU usage on the esktop (with continuous video motion) is somewhat higher. Finally, the behavior is identical whether I'm using an Intel CS780 Pocket PC Camera or a Logitech QuickCam Express.     - MSN Messenger freezes on Full Screen. I love the new MSN Messenger 7.0, but I'm having one problem. I go in to video conversation and then click on full-screen. When I do this, the whole screen goes black and there is an image of the person I'm talking to but it's no bigger than it was before. There's also a picture of me in the lower right-hand corner. Anyway, right after this, the screen freezes. I can still hear the person I'm talking to but the video (on our end only) is frozen totally. I do have a bit of an older computer running on windows ME. When I sent the picture, the picture was moving. One of the vertical lines was just moving left and right - like an animated gif image. How did this happen? Is this a bug?     - Unable to access Hotmail through messenger I downloaded MSN messenger 7 last week and have had no troubles with it until a few days ago. I can no longer access my Hotmail account through the MSN Messenger interface. No new windows open if I try to read my mail or try to compose new mail through it.     - Another signin fix - Winfax conflict I have found that MSN Messenger (and MSAS) both trip over the 2 Winfax Pro "startup" applications and the Winfax Pro "service". Disable the Winfax startup applications using msconfig. Go to start | Run, type in "msconfig". Click on "services". Find the two entries for Winfax Pro. Disable them both. Click "apply" then OK. Then right click on My Computer. Go to manage | Services and Applications | Services. Scroll for Winfax Pro. Double click on Winfax Pro. Stop the service. Then set the service for manual start. Click "apply", then ok. Close Computer Management. Reboot! Winfax Pro is still totally usable upon demand. It just will not automatically answer the phone to receive faxes. If you know you are going to receive a fax, start the Winfax Pro program and let it run until the fax has been received. Then you can shut down the program along with the Winfax controller. Hello Mitchell,
Make sure that you have the latest version of Windows Messenger installed
in order for the remote assistance to work since that is where that
functionality comes from. Secondly, when it blocks picture files does it
tell you that they are potentiall unsafe? If so, download Jonathan Kay's
fix for this and run it:
